This. I enjoyed the movie because as soon as I saw the first three minutes I knew it wasn't going to be t he same story I knew, so I basically refreshed my mind for the rest of it, and I enjoyed it a lot. For a lot of it, you could even go as far as to say that holland is a bonafide jerk, renton was in the right, and long haired eureka is pretty.

Unlike his brother, he fully understood what sort of path that following ritualistic superstitions could lead the planet to. Holland (arguably) killed his mother, and the planet was not calmed. Dewey killed his father and the planet was still not calmed. Given that these superstitions failed him, he did the only thing he could to try to keep humanity from making the same mistake, by breaking their reliance on superstition and doing everything in his power to accomplish this.

I think the only reason that Dewey would read a book like The Golden Bough was if he was deeply regretdful for his parents death. The actions he took where how he was attoning for it.

AO was such shit, show should had been about Renton trying to be a father and dealing with a rebellious Maurice that ironically joins the army to to rebel against his hippy parents. Renton and Eureka would be around the same age as Talho and Holland were on E7 so it would be like poetry

That is some nice theory you have there, except it contradicts everything that actually happened in the show
First, he shot the cluster that was keeping the the rest of the coralians quiet, that was after he spent a great deal of time prodding them until they defended themselves and started wakign up.
Second, when the cluster was destroyed he put a deadman switch on Eureka and Anemone because he knew they would try to become the enw clusters and put the coralians to sleep and that was activated by his own death, his brother went after him to arrest him but he just killed himself.
Third, everyone knew that the coralians awakening would spell the destruction of the world since the very ground they use to walk is a coralian, everyone who knew Dewey said that they didn't really understand what the fuck did he actually want since nothing made sense.
Fourth, its implied that Holland kileld his mother during birth and when hew as chosen for the ritual he refused and joined the army, Dewey got pissed over not being chosen and killed his father on his own, Dewey wasn't right he was just crazy
