I hope my little commentary isn't annoying; I have nobody to share these with and I thought it might be fun to explain why we thought the image would make a good anime.

This one is interesting to me because of the melding of fantasy elements and space, which I haven't seen done often or well. The main thing that makes me have a raging brainer is that the closest odd floating obelisk is over 19 au away (or maybe 19 au long, which is even more insance). If you don't know what an au is, that's the distance between the Earth and the sun. So this thing is basically 19 suns away from our point of view, but it's still larger in the sky than the moon would be in comparison. I just know there'd have to be some juicy mystery behind the mysterious supermassive obelisks.

A alien hive running a extra-dimensional archive.
They collect books, artifacts, stories throughout human history.
Each episode revolves around securing another object of interest without interfering with history or raising suspicion.
They don't work chronologically, i.e. each episode takes place at random points in history
They use cute little girls as avatars. They mostly look alike but each is also a little different.
One episode might have one of their bodies damaged just to be replaced to by another. Think of it as a mixture of Kino, Rei clones and Incubators.
Mid-season we see Earth getting destroyed at some point in the future, humanity goes extinct.
From that point on we're shown how they're collecting humans too.
A few of the human samples hitch a plan to save earth.
Last episode has the portals closing before the humans can execute their plan. The hive moves on to archive another civilization.

The watercolors lend this a dark feel, so I feel like this would be a darker story to match. These young people are the only ones to survive their village being destroyed by a careless hand knocking over a candle. Now, with nothing but a few weapons and the clothes on their back, they must survive a cold, dangerous, uncaring world with little experience. How will the older ones care for the younger ones? Or will they just leave them behind during the night so there's one less mouth to feed?

I've always loved the grungy cyberpunk/dystopian look, especially when they juxtapose the old and the new. I think Mirror's Edge did it pretty well for a /a/ flavor, though it was a very clean cut dirty feeling, if that makes any sense.

While on a road trip, a small group of friends discover a strange loop looking machine in the middle of nowhere emitting a blue glow. It doesn't look like it fell from the sky, nor are there any signs of the heavy machinery that would have been needed to either construct or transport the structure. When one of the friends gets close, the inside of the loop transforms from transparent air to an opaque, shimmery surface similar to a pool of oil. While the other members of the group freak out and argue about whether the call the government or police about this suspicious artifact, the friend that touched the device is overcome by curiosity. Disregarding common sense and self preservation, they quickly climb up and jump in the oily surface before any of their friends can stop the fool.

The group waits with bated breath for a handful of seconds. Suddenly, a hand with a sleeve the same color as their friends comes out of the oily sheen and beckons them in. It then retracts, and they are left with a choice. Follow their friend into the terrifying, but tantalizing unknown, or stay here and call the relevant authorities?

Miku anime.

Miku actually is a combat android designed for a war with not-china that never came to pass. She's working as an idol now for PR reasons.

Everything she does is in a superpowered chuuni way because that's a) because what PR tells her the fans like b) as combat android she only has little data on interacting with people except impressing civilians during weapons expos.

Her home is a facility that's like a downsized version of aperture science/glados, keeping her repaired and all that. Last episode she wakes up an undetermined time in the future, somewhat in disrepair. The facility does its best to repair her again but has to do with some makeshift replacements. She's Calne now.

Both of those were me, so I'll respond here too. I guess I could support that for the people who like that kind of stuff, but idol shit just never appealed to me. I've never liked sung songs in any show since I was a kid, it just makes me uncomfortable. Even music videos push it sometimes.

the reconstructions get better over time. we start with some wild speculation based just some combat traces left in the landscape. then they find weapons and make some sketches. Then CG models.

They also try to fit the puzzle pieces into sketchy historical records that trace back from their current civilization and apparently have influences to the current day.

Esteemed researchers having heated arguments over which of their favorite discoveries was more awesome and who was fighting for the good and bad guys. The good guys obviously being those who wrote history.

In the end we get some original footage recorded from then, overthrowing all assumptions.

RPG setting from the perspective on NPCs. It's set in a neutral border town. Adventurers come and go, armies of various factions ride through, only the chaotic ones causing serious trouble.

We mostly follow day to day business of an artifact appraiser and trader. Lazy heroes often unload loot in bulk and only ask for appraisal of a few outstanding objects, selling the rest wholesale. The NPCs make a profit from digging out a few hidden gems and selling the lesser stuff as ingredients / for raw material salvage to other NPCs.
Occasionally they have to deal with legendary items that absolutely must go to the right clients.

The whole thing lives by playing with RPG tropes. In their world many campaigns from different DMs run in parallel with some minor inconsistencies occurring that must be navigated in a genre-savy way.

Are you saying there are three space elevators all connected to the same station?

I like the idea in general, but the physics aren't close enough to be believable. Also, why would first contact happen in space? Space elevators and stations and shit would be more technologically advanced than just flying over there at the short distance we're talking about. I can't imagine a scenario where somebody wouldn't just take the initiative to fly over and say hi. Also, why can't they use more than morse code? That REALLY doesn't make sense.

Here lemme pitch some shit:

The three races are viewed in this really stereotypical way. One is seen by the others as brutish, dumb. One is seen as stuck up, holier-than-thou. The last is this weird little creepy evil fuckin goblin race. So it's really easy for the audience and the other characters to stereotype all of them. The fancy guys donated the most technologies to the others, especially the brutes, to make the station happen, and are seen as lording it over the others. Nobody trusts the creepy evil dudes because they have all this shady shit going on. And everybody thinks the brutes are just being carried by the others because they can't accomplish anything on their own.

But the major theme of the show is that all of those differences are nonexistent when you're faced with individuals. Over the course of the season the characters stop seeing each other as their respective races and start seeing each other as fully realized people. Like they eventually figure out that the brutes all sound dumb because the languages of the other two races just coincidentally happened to function in a very similar way mechanically. The brutes have to train for years in order to communicate with the others, but their native tongue is actually way more complex and nuanced, able to describe much more abstract concepts, and has accomplished completely unique things in song and poetry.

Shit like that, it writes itself.

Ep.1 From the past

Elyssa becomes a freelancer, a person who travels the country for relative little pay fixing robots which help people live easier lives. During the bus ride Elyssa meets a old composer who lost his hearing in a political riot and now has to live in the country with his family; he expresses how he misses hearing his favorite symphony (They communicate using a touch pad). The bus reaches his station and breaks down, with no hotels nearby the composer offers Elyssa (who is freezing in the rain) a chance to stay with his family until the bus is repaired (The bus acts a bridge for each episode, every time she gets off a new episode begins, the job she is originally offered is the final episode).

The composers house is out of the early 20th century, the most advanced thing in the house is a computer for the early 2010s. The composers daughter then explains that they haven't bought anything new because they felt it would complicated their lives.

Elyssa then asks the daughter why she hasn't bought hearing aids for her father.

"We had a pair but they broke and we cant afford to fix them. His hearing has gotten worse since then" - the daughter

Elyssa runs upstairs and finds the old hearing aids. By replacing a capacitor and amplifying the sound she restores them to a functioning state.

The episode ends with the composer smiling and in tears as he listens to Mahler's 2nd for the first time in 7 years.
