Here's some status updates:
The manga scanlations are dead. The translator refuses to cooperate, so unless somebody offers to work on it (and sticks with it until the end, it's just one volume) there's not much to be done about it.
The QC for the visual novel is (not) proceeding, but at least that's all there is left to do.
Somebody's making a tank-kun 3D model for printing purposes, it's mostly done and all that's left to do is add lots of detail.

No it doesn't shit over the ending. It's technically a sequel, yes, but it's a standalone story that was played as safe as possible just in case an actual, proper sequel came along.

Like many of these games, I assume the story was not written by the original authors (and it kinda shows, unfortunately), but it was fun enough and it had a few heartwarming and a few sob moments among the random fun stuff. The ending was neat, too.

So dunno, it may be a third-party PSP cash-in, but I liked it nevertheless.

Not really, it is about 10 days of slice of life mostly. A spoiler from the true end is that A year after the festival of the VN, they are at the next festival.. While some remarks are made to the story of the anime, there are no particularly interesting things revealed.

Anime arguably isn't quite as common a thing in Europe at least in comparison to the number of weebs in the USA. What gets watched by people who didn't grow up as weebs is normally that which is notably 'different' from any non-japanese content rather than the more generic stuff.

I've always thought of it as having two distinct meanings for me.

1: World building by giving some clues to the apocalypse's effects. The fact that the only forms of long distance communication are land-line and letter service led some anons to conclude that there was something wrong with the earths atmosphere that made radio communication impossible in their world. Even tanks that had some form of radio communication in their real-life counterparts use trumpets for comms instead. Even though it's established that land-line phones are present and work in the Woto's world there's a couple of cultural hints dropped, notably Kanata having no idea how to answer a phone.

2: Foreshadowing Rio's identity as an illegitimate descendant and her politcal role. When she finally gets that call at the end, I think it's our first time seeing her directly linked to the bigger picture.
