Is it even possible for a Japanese anime girl to eat something and NOT squeal "おいしい!!!"? Or in this case, おぃっし~! I mean, are there not other words that convey that foot tastes good? I can't take this.

You just want to be able to recognize them in kanji. Like, you see 課 and then "ah yeah that's 田 言 and 木". So, you should be testing to see if you recognize them. A convinenent way to do this is the "english meaning", really anything on the back that confirms you recognized what's on the front.

This, kinda. In my country English is mandatory for everybody during all of what would in Japanese terms be elementary, middle and high school, and yet 90% of people are completely helpless with English. This is partly because the education system itself is shit, but it's mainly because they're only pushed to understand/speak English during classes or when doing homework, which is no different from the situation most failed adult learners go through. Heck I went through the same thing "trying" to learn German. People just don't study and expose themselves enough.

That classification is meant as a reference for native English speakers. It doesn't serve as an objective parameter to judge which languages are the hardest ones in the world, if such a thing could or should even be defined.

Language Perfect > Anki
>>
>>135670348
Not really any memes, but there is definitely some slang speech. There's also not really any furigana though, unless it's some special name like 2 man cell.

I understand most of the words, but at the same time I don't do anki so I'm not sure how the vocabulary presented rates in terms of difficulty. I don't think the game is too difficult as long as you know everyday language.

From the linguistic point of view, English was and still remains being the most retarded language due to its fixed word order, lack of genders and adequate diminutives not only for nouns but also for adjectives as well as for verbs. Having said that I venture to assume that there is some sneaky sly agenda all across the world. Dirty naughty kikes want to see people from other cultures getting retarded by using English on a regular basis in lieu of their own.

>>
>>135674069
Maybe you need a bit more experience then. Even if you were lucky enough to find a novel containing only 1500 different kanji in it that doesn't mean knowing 1500 kanji is enough to be a functional reader. There's no guarantee the 1500 kanji in that novel are going to coincide with the ones you know, and even if they do, the ones in the next novel probably won't, and it probably is going to contain way more kanji too, not to mention all of the names and just general 表外漢字 you're going to run into all of the time. If you want to be semi-illiterate go ahead, but anyone aiming for reading fluency should be thinking in terms of 3000+. Unless of course you're satisfied with having to stop to check a dictionary all of the time and/or being bound to content aimed at children or with plenty of furigana.

The only time I ever actively studied kanji was in anki, and pic related is my total time in Anki, ergo, assuming you have a similar memory and mindset as me, you will need to study for roughly 450 hours.
This doesn't count reading practice of course which is a big deal but also not something everyone calls "studying" per se
>>
>>135676980
Depends on what you read. With around 2000 kanji you can read most things decently, but some take less and some take more. You can (and should if you plan on taking this seriously) start reading with much less than that really, you'll just have to use the dictionary a lot. Personally I think around 500 kanji is a good enough number to start reading practice.

As for how long it will take to learn that, that's all a matter of how many kanji you can learn a day. People vary from as low as 5 to as high as 60. It's up to you.

You're not "supposed" to remember the things you did yesterday; the cards are still young, and therefore you're still going to forget them. Just keep doing your reviews, you'll remember them eventually.

Naah. You can't force things into your memory, really. You can make mnemonics to help, but there's not much else you can do except expose yourself to the content a lot until you remember it naturally. Of course, this is why reading is recommended to be done along side anki, but if you're just starting the only other exposure you'll be getting is the Japanese found in grammar guides and example sentences, but that's fine too.

It shouldn't be too long before you get into the groove of anki and find yourself hitting "good" a lot and generally noticing yourself get better. If you stick with it, you WILL start remembering stuff.

Also, there are three settings you should change that will help you a LOT.
- Go to the deck options and change review limit to 9999: you do NOT want a review limit of 100
- Change steps from 1 10 to 1 10 30 or 1 10 10
- Go to tools -> preferences and change Learn Ahead Limit to 0

>>
>>135678666
Not really, if you put the last step too low you might see and "complete" it before you're done with the rest of the deck, and if you put it too high anki will (by default, can be changed in the preferences under "learn ahead limit") force you to wait until you're within a set number of minutes (30min by default, I think) of the cards due time.

I like to put it to something high like 30 or 60 and set the anki learn ahead limit to anything above that, so you have to "level up" all your cards for today to the final step before you cycle through them all again. This ensures you don't forget a card you got right a few times at the start of your study sessions once you're nearing the end of the session.

You guys ever listen to a Japanese song, read the lyrics and realize that the word they're singing sounds nothing like it should be read. It happens a few times and I'm looking for every reading to match it but nothing matches..

It could be any song from rap, jpop to j-rock.Just recently I was listening to Blurry Eyes by L'Arc and there are two part in particular at the beginning when he say 遠く and 続いている at 1:36. I was exaggerating in my original post but it's just it sounded that the つづ part sounded a bit off mark. I would post the song but I can't even find a full version on youtube.

Damn I really need to start proofreading my post. But I can't believe I missed the biggest one. In the song he's like めぐり来るときに but the lyrics say めぐり来る季節に。This could be just a fuck up by the sites I'm looking at but it's weird.

Why am I posting in this thread when I haven't even done my reps today? Find out in my next post of I can't learn Japanese!
>>
>>135682995
I consider myself almost fluent and can read almost anything without a dictionary and sometimes I will check how many characters I can read in an hour, and while reading at a good 'fluent' speed I get about 10,000 per hour.

Recently I've discovered a website where people post their amateur writing (much higher quality than pixiv fanfics) and they have a variable for 'how long will it take you to read' and I figured it's 500 characters per minute aka 30,000 characters per hour.

Fuck even my fastest speed is only 1/3rd of a native and I can confidently say I'm one of the best in these threads.

For reference the average light novel is only 100,000 characters.

There is a world of difference between writing something out from reference and being able to be tested on them in a kanken exam. They test a lot more than just the ability to write kanji.

No hostility. Terse, maybe, but certainly not offended in any manner to be hostile. I was generally perplexed at the initial response, also taking into account that such things like kanken are almost always mentioned in the same breath as an insult.

Starting tomorrow, I am quitting 4chan, except for DJT. Lately I've realized my days are just disappearing and I don't even remember what I did all day. I just go from board to board looking for something interesting to read and wasting time.

Just stop browsing the shit boards like /a/, /v/, /tv/ etc.
/an/ for example is fine.

日常表現はぜんぜんわからないよ。使ったことないからね。
I have learned math and science in English. I can't do daily conversation.

You'll be back in a day.
It's impossible to quit browsing boards and reading stupid things.

oh hey, I've never been to /an/
>>
>>135697026
I've quit before, for about a month I think. I just need to keep quitting things until reading Japanese is the most interesting thing left.

I browse a, v, g, fit, diy, pol, b, d, s, lit, ic, trv, in roughly that order. Popular boards move faster, so there is is always something new. When you waste hours and hours every day, the slow boards aren't enough.
>>
>>135697015
/an/ is an awful board, I hate the posters there. /u/ is the best board on 4chan.
>>
>>135697230
Just find things or habits or shit to fill up time in your day until there's no time left for 4chan. You're already learning Japanese, add in some exercise or a job or learn something else like a computer language or whatever.

What do the "1 10 30" mean?

Also is it really alright to unlimit your word review per day? Won't it make you forget more?

I'm now at 200 words for review and 30 new words.

It makes for a good memory foundation and for easier kanji searching. I'm studying them as well to improve my retention and handwriting because I want kickass penmanship.
