When I first started watching Ideon I thought it was nothing special but as the series went on and on I enjoyed it a lot more and more and by the end I thought it was a legitimately great show. I don't know if you'll love it by the end if you hated it at first, but I think most people would agree that it gets better as it goes on. Try to watch at least until episode 14, episode 14 was my all time favorite and if you don't enjoy it you probably won't enjoy the rest of the series.

That being said, the sequel movie (Be Invoked) is actually the sequel to the recap movie, not to the TV series. The recap movie changes some things, and Be Invoked follows the recap movie continuity, not the TV series continuity.

But what makes Be Invoked so great is the characters, and if you've only seen the recap movie, which crams like 30 episodes worth of content into 90 minutes, you won't really appreciate it. Seeing the characters progress and struggle through all those episodes is what makes the movie as the culmination of their story so great. So ideally, before watching Be Invoked you should watch both the TV series and the recap movie.

Copypased from a post on /tv/:

Film vs Movie vs Cinema is real, but kino, fllick, etc were added by tasteless drones that were made insecure by this whole thing.

“A movie is made for an audience and a film is made for both the audience and the filmmakers. I think that The Game is a movie and I think Fight Club‘s a film. I think that Fight Club is more than the sum of its parts, whereas Panic Room is the sum of its parts. I didn’t look at Panic Room and think: Wow, this is gonna set the world on fire. These are footnote movies, guilty pleasure movies. Thrillers. Woman-trapped-in-a-house movies. They’re not particularly important.” - David Fincher

"My film is not a movie. My film is not about Vietnam. It is Vietnam. It's what it was really like. It was crazy. We were in the jungle, there were too many of us, we had access to too much money, too much equipment, and little by little we went insane." — Francis Ford Coppola

>By contrast, in the US "movie" is the predominant form. Although the words "film" and "movie" are sometimes used interchangeably, "film" is more often used when considering artistic, theoretical, or technical aspects, as studies in a university class and "movies" more often refers to entertainment or commercial aspects, as where to go for fun on a date. For example, a book titled "How to Read a Film" would be about the aesthetics or theory of film, while "Lets Go to the Movies" would be about the history of entertaining movies.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kMsp05iSk7s

movies are about economics.
cinema is about esthetics.
film is about politics.
-"How To Read A Film" by James Monaco

Tarkovsky's Sculpting in Time
Delleuze's Cinema I&II

>Is this true?
No, because no one calls a movie a "cinema". That's a name for the medium.
>>
>>135277719
So they're being used as ambiguously defined terms that become useless in actual discussion due to the lack of validation or reconciliation of their conflicting definitions. Sounds like every other word that's been invented by reviewers.
>>
>>135279107
It's not something invented by just reviewers. Even directors like Tarkovski have made that distinction.
>>
>>135279189
And even sci-fi writers make the distinction between hard and soft sci-fi, that doesn't mean the terms definitions aren't inconsistent as fuck.

>associates heart with emotions

>>135277719
I sort of see the point, but I wonder where movies that establish huge fanbases and cult-like followings fit in. Do we say something like Star Wars is a movie because it intentionally makes a lot of money, or is it cinema because it leaves such a lasting impression on people?

The only impression Star Wars makes on most people is that it makes them want to buy more Star Wars shit. By those definitions you could argue it's a film, but not that it's a cinema because the only thing that was ever impressive aesthetically were the practical effects.

Fuck yes. If they're too inconsistent to be useful in discussion then how are they valid?
>>
>>135281908
Because the use of the term can change a little bit from guy to guy but the main point and idea is there.
For example the idea of film from coppola and keifer is a little different but the main point about pointing how is more complex and made for other reasons besides an economic point of view and public stays.
Same with tarkovsky talking different kind of motion pictures

Those four words are just synonyms, though I'd figure "flick" (and "kino") would be more suited for when you're talking about a short film. But I don't think use of those terms describes the quality of said works. For example, I like GitS more than the other three in that picture, followed by the first Broly movie, followed by Princess Monoke. In fact, the only one I don't own on DVD or bluray is NGE. Why? Because it sucks.

Make up your mind buddy. Does people talking about the difference between them really upsets you?

>>135262837
Just like like a classic or a F1 are cars and still so different
>>
>>135284693
>First it was abotu not being consistent and now about not enough people talking about cinema
I said the difference between cinema and film was inconsistent, because it is. For example the quote below the youtube video mentions aesthetics, but nothing about film or cinema being more complex than the other like you stated. You said that that was consistent between everyone, and then I mentioned that everyone in that copypasta doesn't even mention cinema as a separate branch to begin with.
>>
>>135284891
It does in how to read a film and Dellueze talking about Cinema.
And i mentioned the consistent characteristics even when a few details change from dude to dude
>>
>>135284971
You said the consistent characteristic was the degree of complexity, but the "How To Read A Film" quote doesn't mention that as a factor at all.
>>
>>135285069
And also the message trying to show being different which is consistent about aesthetics and even you claimed half of the people mentioned this and same with keifer saying how there's a different categorie for that. Unless you were talking without fundaments about that you're bitting your own tail here because i not only mentioned cinema but films which are see like more complex and high brow

>And also the message trying to show being different
Yes, they're consistent in that they have different messages, not in HOW those messages are different though, that's too vague to be useful in a discussion.
>talking without fundaments
What does that mean?
Also are you on your phone or ESL or something?
>>
>>135284736
>Just like
No. Because the cars are of different specifications. Being a car is not enough to be a F1 car.
But all the above mentioned terms all refer to sequential images of moving pictures. That's it.
>>
>>135285431
That's not to vague that's how the whole argument started and not only mine but others trying to prove there's a reason behind giving it different labels. And yes i'm posting from a cellphone i'm at work.
>>
>>135285484
The movies and films also have different specifications.
Moving pictures is generic enough like saying four wheels and one engine
>>
>>135285606
>That's not too vague
Yes it is. It just saying that everyone agrees they're about different things, but that no one can agree what they're about, that's useless if your planning on using these terms in a discussion.
Also what does talking without fundaments mean? Hyperbole or something?
>>
>>135285669
>Moving pictures is generic enough
Good thing Cinema, Film, Movie, and Flick aren't that generic then.

Why do autists always put things in tiers?
i mean you can just tell someone is an spastic fuck when they start to categorize stuff into tiers
Remember those "GOD TIER, MID TIER, SHIT TIER" stuff? This is exactly like that.
>>
>>135285669
It's motion picture.
>>
>>135285675
And other guys already trying to point the difference between them and they are consistent about a few important things, they aren't vague enough there's already a few things to make other knew the difference and that's where this argument starts, about saying how they are vague enough to not being worthy of discussion, but on the contrary that leaves more space for that trying to explain why those definitions are on the first place
When i talked about not having fundaments i'm talking about you claiming half of the people don't use cinema and before how cinema is mentioned by half of the people to be about aesthetics
>>
>>135285821
Exactly. I'm glad we agree on that
>>
>>135285870
It's four wheels in movement
>>
>>135286085
>they are consistent about a few important things
What are these things? They aren't consistent on the idea that the message is different, and they aren't consistent on the idea that film is more complex than cinema or vice versa.
I'm asking what talking without fundaments means.
Also claiming half the people both times was just hyperbole, I'm not saying literally 50% don't use it and the other 50% just use aesthetics, I'm saying a significant portion of them say or don't say those things. Because a few people mentioned cinema being about aesthetics, and a few people mention it just being a degree of complexity, and a few don't mention cinema at all.
>>
>>135286085
>how they are vague enough to not being worthy of discussion
That's not what I'm saying, we obviously are discussing them right now. I'm saying they're useless within a discussion. You can have a discussion ABOUT them and what specifically they mean, but you can't use them in a discussion about motion pictures in general because the different parties will probably have conflicting definitions, making them useless.
>>
>>135286117
That doesn't mean they aren't synonymous though. They are literally 4 words referring to the exact same thing. With the exception of "cinema", which is the same thing but shown at the cinema.
>>
>>135286256
Sure but they are use to make a difference between them and other people use those terms based on what other people came to by experience or trying to give a different meaning.
I mentioned you claimed that because you said it without any explaining that you tried to show how not all people use the same terms and it seems like you used the wrong kind of words for that.
People trying to explainthe difference between films and movies and even cinema are still trying to get to a complete meaning, there's variations on what they are trying to say but the main idea behind it is consistent
>>
>>135286411
You can use them in a general discussion about motion pictures, unless the discussion derails in trying to explainthey are the same thing. People are going to agree about some things about it and be against some other things but trying to classify a movie on the first place is made by everyone this not different
>>
>>135286510
>and it seems like you used the wrong kind of words for that
Okay, I understand now. I guess you're right.
>>
>>135286506
They can be used like synonymous but also for other reasons on the discussion about the different kind of movies
>>
>>135286626
Only about that to be fair. My argument about films and movies being different is valid but really vague like you said and there's not a real or general conssensus about what is each kind of movie

The people who think this are the same people who think Citizen Kane is the greatest film of all time and still have yet to see it.

>treating entertainment like high art
>>
>>135277719
Bullshit. They're all movies, they're all films, they're all cinema. Pretentious American faggots use the latter two terms for movies that appeal to their pretenses -- moderately and extremely respectively.

The best movie is the one you like the most. You there, reading this post. This is the ONLY coherent way to criticize art. The hard part is figuring out exactly why you like some things more than others. Most people don't sort out their feelings and figure out what they're drawn to. Either because they never cared to, or because they were trained by their lit teachers to dissect the complexity of the narrative (both its actual, ie designed by the artist, and imaginary complexity) and organize them into taxonomies rather than actually criticize.

Eventually the student believes that criticism is taxonomy, and it follows from this perspective that the best artworks have the most diverse taxonomy and intricate dissections. Better yet, the ones with vague pseudo-philosophical musings to mull over for a couple minutes after the credits roll.

And anyways, the best direction, writing, and cinematography practices are repped overwhelmingly by major movie productions. It has been that way since Citizen Kane, and the gap will only grow as directors explore ever more complex and demanding methods of production. Amateurs and small timers good for rough drafts and proof of concepts for new techniques. The armies of Hollywood make the best use of them.
>>
>>135288467
The best of cinema (not anime) is high art.
>>
>>135290452
And they're still movies.
>>
>>135256772
Cinema is a location. You don't go see a cinema. The others are all object, historically the content of a film reel itself. You can watch a reel of film, but watching a cinema would be standing outside staring at the sign.
