After finishing part V, I couldn't stop thinking about how the first two parts were the only ones to truly give me a sense of adventure. Which is ironic, since the manga's named Jojo's Bizarre Adventure.

Perhaps the biggest failure Araki made was to incorporate the weekly monster formula into the story. It only made it feel more stale and less adventurous. One would've to wait a week, just to end reading a chapter of a battle against an enemy, an enemy that would end becoming irrelevant to the story after his/her defeat. This also sort of happened in the first two parts, but with less frequency. At least in part I, all of Jonathan previous battles counted towards his combat experience against Dio.

Not saying that parts III-V are bad. There's just something about them that make them less interesting in the long run. For instance, part III & IV had promising beginnings, but as soon as the weekly formula kicked in, the read became sort of unpleasant. Part III had an interesting final battle, sure, and Part IV had that relaxing aura in the first half, but the weekly formula didn't allow them to bring their true potential. Part V was kind of the opposite; it got more interesting as it progressed, but ultimately failed at the ending, which not only lowered its quality, but also the value of the tragic end Part I had.

I agree, but I'd argue that works to it's advantage. Out of all the parts, Part 4 is supposed to be the part LEAST focused on adventure in favor of focusing on the community, which it does very well.

Part 7 feels like an adventure again. There's still Stand of the Week, but they're also horse-riding across America and it's pretty interesting. There's more reoccurring villains/allies that get interesting development, I think there's like a grand total of 5-6 Stand of the Week guys.

Part 6 is just fucking weird.

I think Part 3 nailed the "adventure" feel well enough with the globe-trotting.

There's something that bothered me about the ending of Part IV. Non-Stand users like Mrs. Kawajiri are able to see Stray Cat, since it's both the Stand and user. So when Killer Queen imprisons Stray Cat in its sexy abs, do normies see a plant kitty cat monster floating at waist-height?

For that matter, how is Kira able to call and dismiss Killer Queen with Stray Cat in there? I thought Stands were psychic projections, so I don't get where Stray Cat was in the time between Killer Queen imprisoning Stray Cat and being summoned again to fight the Morioh Boys.

I just finished watching the whole thing a few days ago and I greatly prefer the anime series, if only for how colorful it is.The ova is so damn brown and depressing. Some things were better though, like Iggy looking like an actual dog. Didn't like the voices at all, but that might just be because I watched the anime first and have those voices ingrained in my head.

I'm definitely you, I think at that point I was burnt out of worrying about him and it just made sense he would die in the climatic final battle

I felt more when rereading but it was honestly Diego whose death got to me most when I mostly overlooked it on my first read, not nearly as attached to him as Gyro but Araki did something good that whole sequence from jumping out the window up to his last breath

Is Jojo the only SJ manga where the main protagonists often lose, or even die? As in actually die, never to be seen again. The ending for Part 6 is so shocking, they just get wrecked and Pucci just about completely victorious, other than the Weather Report stand getting the final say.

Jonathan dies, Joseph barely wins through asspull, both Jolyne and Jotaro fail quite miserably, and although Johnny defeats Valentine he loses the final battle against The World, loses the race (and his best friend), then proceeds to die a miserable death. And even the parts that do have Jojo winning, are bittersweet and still depressing. Any other SJ series like this at all?
