Holy shit is this real life?
>>
Now we just need those Aldermain and Mismarca updates!

Ha ha

>people read anime stories instead of actual books

jesus what is this world coming to

Most "actual books" are trash unless you only read classic litterature.
>>
>>133810193

>>

This, people could have read The Ways of Kings and another Brandon Sanderson fantasy book during the time it takes to finish one shit LN with shit prose.

>>133810193
fasntng tale Onii-chan, why don't you busy yourself with one of those actual books?
>>
>>13381019
i don't read LN, but you could say the same thing about reading manga. you could say it is just anime with black and white pictures.
(i think manga is better then anime btw)
>>
>>133810348
About as productive as cutting your foreskin off.
>>
>>133810381
I just read Fahrenheit 451 last night. Literally better than any anime shit I've ever sawed.
>>
>>133810288
Isn't fantasy the western equivalent of LN shit in Japan? A lot of garbage for nerds with the occasional gems here and there.
>>
>>133810052
>Being happily surprised about a below average LN
Just because is not another school battle harem doesn´t mean you have to shit your pants over it. Read a real fantasy novel instead.

Yeah, I'm gonna read Hitchhikers Guide to the Universe next. Did you read that one, senpai?
>>
>>133810052
Now we just have to wait 6 years for the other 9 books to get translated.
>>

The deader the author, the better he is.
>>
>>133810604
Then read good writers like Dan Simmons and Suggs
>>
>>133810463
More like 99% of written works are garbage, and a good amount of that good 1% comes from Fantasy.

Oh hey, is just like anime! Difference from LN being is easier to find something good. Yes more than a handful.

I mean list 10 LNs that are alright read, story, concept. characters and moral message?
All I can think of:
Utsuro no Hako to Zero no Maria
Legend of the Legendary Heroes
First act of Shield Hero - barely readable
Haruhi
Yahari
Spice and Wolf
Kino no Tabi
Welcome to NHK (No pics, but well the list is hard to fill)
Note how I excluded the shitty power fantasy stuff? Because they are shit tier about self masturbation.

I don't mind dealing with shitposters as long they are /a/ related.

Dead authors that people remember are good.

>>
>>133810595
what exactly is "genre fiction"? it just seems like fiction that just tries to have a story and doesn't try to have a deeper meaning, at least from what i've seen from offboard /lit/izens.
>>

DDD
>>
>>133810745

>>

"Anime stories" have inherent qualities that are enjoyable. You would not watch anime if this weren't true so your statement is retarded.
>>
>>133810660
Guess I should get my smug on too because I've read nonsense like Brave New World and 1984. You're not a intelectual and your taste in books is shit and will always be shit, the fact that you're trying to one up nerds on a fucking anime board tells volumes about just how fucking insecure you are.
>>
>>133810134
Everyone dropped Aldermain like hot coal once Yakitori died.
And nobody's lunatic enough to translate Mismarca, besides js06 I guess, but even he's got his hands full with Kawakami/Kamachi stuff.
>>
>>133810595
But every piece of literature is fiction, surely you meant fantasy?
>>
>>133810604

Yes, Proust's and Joyce's stuff is the height if entertainment. I've had more fun reading random pulp fantasy novels.
>>

That novel had 800+ pages. I had to put off reading it since it was such a heavy read. I doubt middle schoolers read anything other than their home work assignment that is at most 2 pages.

Because it isn't funny.
>>
>>133810745
Good is subjective since all I want from my reading material is entertainment which LNs offer in spades considering all the dumb stuff that's out there. Getting pretentious over fucking LNs is laughable.
>>
>>133810873
Don't talk as if you're everyone. There are plenty of people who are mature enough to not drop a novel because of one persons death.
>>
>>133811033
Sanderson's style leads more to LN-style proses and settings, which would make it really easy to adapt.
But that's one the reasons why it's below average.

Most things are. The only good things coming out of anime lately have mostly been movies and OVAs that have nothing to do with light novels or the late night ecchi scene. It's truly amazing how much the overall quality of Japanese animated things goes up when it's totally separated from the LN/VN scenes tropes and cliches and seemingly effortlessly so at that.

Genre fiction is basically literature that can be easily classified as belonging to a specific genre (horror, romance, fantasy, science fiction, mystery, thriller, etc.), is mostly focused on the plot, and is written primarily for commercial entertainment. It's "literature" that doesn't have any actual literary merit, it's the written equivalent of television.
Googling would probably provide a more precise definition, I'm just talking out of my ass here.
>>133810909
Genre fiction, as opposed to literary fiction. Non-fiction literature exists as well, though.

>>133811072

Light Novels are pretty much about pure otaku self insertion power fantasies and catering to fetishes. >Here is an actual half decently written and directed show with a variety of characters, themes, concepts and ideas=Probably gets like 10K regular viewers tops on sites like MAL and /a/ and probably mediocre reviews
>Here's some light novel tripe with tropey high school girls, fanservice out the ass, droning dialogue and no sense of direction=pretty much guaranteed 50-100K+ regular viewers on sites like MAL and /a/ as well as rave reviews.

Also works. The real problem with anime right now is it's just catered to and pulled in the lowest common denominator kind of fan just looking for a good fap for so long in the last decade or so that's it's basically gotten to the point where it's only pulling in fetishists and idiots now and the only people that would watch anything else are the people that got into anime before shitty Light novel adaptations became popular and prolific. You can really see it in how your average thread on any given anime forum reads now and what people bother to talk about.

What's worse is now the medium has probably fucked itself into a corner where it probably has nowhere to go if the LN adaptation scene ever does just completely bottom out since people that would be interested in other stuff will have long since written off anime and people that watch LN shit pretty much just watch that exclusively. IMO that's what some of the older anime creators have been trying to warn people about when they say anime can't just be all about cute girls and wish fulfillment. At this point the only one that really seems to be trying to dig themselves out of this whole mostly and successfully so is Bandai who was smart enough to just largely ignore the LN Boom give or take a few Sunrise Studio 8 adaptations this entire time and just continue to go with what had always worked for them in all around multimedia projects and franchises that try to appeal to more than just one or two fringe demographic makeups.

>>
>>133811859

Honestly despite what people tell me I barely see how the average big name VN adaptation is any better than the average big name LN adaptation. They share a lot of the same tendencies towards the stupid and pointless and largely just rely on fanservice and core fanboy audiences. It's like every time one gets adapted the original fanbase gets so up it's own asses with how great they think the source is and what a treat the secondary plebs are in for and thus so down peoples throats about them with the result usually being so middling that they end up making pretty much no new fans. Really LN/VN sourcefags and overly ambitious producers need to learn when to shut the hell up once in a while and let the adaptation do the talking, but IMO they don't want to do that because they know the result would be disastrous as people watch these things and make up their own minds which would probably lead to the conclusion that they're mediocre shit at best.

It's a vicious cycle with no end in site cause studios can't figure out much of anything else to do these days though it seems like within a few more years adaptations of cell phone games might supersede adaptations of Light and Visual novels with zealot like cult followings.

No just money really, anime producers don't give a shit if the average person find their shows entertaining or not as long as the necessary 3,000 otaku buy their Blu-Rays at their ridiculously marked up prices. Most anime are made solely with hitting that magic break even number in mind, not growing franchises or bringing in new viewers and demographics. Occasionally you get the odd anime original like Love Live that just crushes it and actually has it's works sell progressively more as time goes on but that's fast becoming like a once every couple of years kind of thing.

It's the primary reason I can't really do light novel series anymore. Its funny how its kind of like Hollywood where the smallest talents that should be considered lowest on the totem pole have the most monstrously inflated egos and it shows in what they write about and how they right it. Shit like Monogatari series, Oreimo, Saekano, Gate, Mekaku and the like getting popular is the worst thing to happen to anime this decade. It seems like Visual Novel writers like Maeda are content to join in the masturbatory writing and empty promises too judging by recent trends and comments. The industry let these people in and tried to crown them kings of writing and now we all have to suffer the consequences of an empowered otaku community and writers who can't and/or won't listen to criticism and only care about pleasing their dwindling regimen of yes men fanboys.

Oni is alright. I liked Sophia too. The best part of them two is comparing them to idiot Shun though.
>>
>>133825522
Poor Shun, he got stuck being human and got his imouto taken away, Oniman lost basically everything, Vampire girl at least had her butler and the best bodyguards she could ask for with her.

Stop. Fucking stop.

>Poor Shun
Everything was his own fault. Well his and Oka's fault.

>>133825783
Should have killed Yuugo before he burned 2 countries down.

>Hating on the based jircniv
>Hell even hating the lizard man
Are you insane?
>>

Well started with Oka telling the fucking elves about the reincarnations. That created a ton of problems all over. Shun created problems just because of being the weak shit he was. He never took training really seriously at all until Yuugo almost killed him.

I'm sure we'll get some more when the anime comes out.

Holy fuck. This LN. This shits better than Overlord.

Not that Overlord was that good. This fucking LN is great though.
>>
>>133810258
So they are still on average higher quality than the most manga, anime and LN?
>>
>>133826170
Why are you even on /a/ if you think books are better?

>Alderamin
>Mismarca
What are they about? The synopsis on BT and MU are badly written and did nothing for me. Sell them to me and I might pick up one of them.
>>
>>133826170
The vast majority of books are bad, the same as manga, anime and light novels.

Actually, all light novels are bad. But that aside, the proportion of good books to bad books is probably about the same as good manga and anime to bad manga and anime.
>>
>>133826532
Nice unbiased opinion you have there.
>>
>>133826349
Alderamin is sort of like Gunka no Baltzar as an LN.
>>
I want more Youjo Senki. Reading it feels like I'm reading an actual book. Instead we're just going to get more generic bottom of the barrel OP MC in a fantasy world to replace overlord instead.
>>

>OP MC
Who?

>499

Might as well.

>You sure that wasn't just made up? They've been pretty associative for the first 3 books, mostly due to situational need, hard to believe it suddenly gets dropped out of nowhere.
nope, not made up.

basically Olga predents to die because the "king" decides to kill him. He vanishes, and then raises an army in rebelion, those books basically cover the rebelion. Meanwhile hot jailbait doesn't even show up for a few books then when she meets him again doesn't believe it's him and thinks he's an imposter.

When he takes over the country he somehow convinces her, but there is like ZERO character interaction between them for pretty much the rest of the series.
