OPM's anime has been alright IMO.

I didn't post this to see Bakugo die, but with this thought: Deku, Bakugo and Shoto are the monster-trio of the class, everyone of these 3 will be 1st place in one of the 3 sports festivals they have. In the first sports festival it was Bakugo because Deku didn't have a good enough control of OFA and Shoto still doubted his powers.
Until the next sport festival they have around 10 months, enough time for Deku to reach a higher % limit of OFA and control his Full Cowl better. And now that Shoto isn't doubting his powers anymore he could defeat Bakugo. Shoto is gonna be the winner of the 2nd festival, but because Deku could become strong enough to defeat him during the 2nd festival he needs to be gone by something that was mentioned in the first festival: someone who goes overboard in the fights gets disqualified. This is how Deku can be made gone and give a bit more story about OFA and his powers could corrupt him or something like that.
And in the last festival Deku is gonna be 1st place.

Todo is not objectively better. He has a personal problem with Deku and that's what made him more hot blooded most of the time. Todo doesn't care about his outbursts. He feels rivalry towards him, he never tried to humiliate him or something like that.
No Deku means no successor so everything would have been fine. Villains would have not attacked, because they did so when they noticed that AM had weakened.

He does feel threatened by Todoroki as well. He has a personal problem with Todoroki as well. The thing is Todoroki like everyone else in the class doesn't give 2 fucks about Bakugou. The rivalry is entirely one-sided. Bakugou did want to humiliate Todoroki as well by beating him, but it turned against him because Todoroki didn't care enough to fight him seriously.
The villains never knew about Deku before the attack.

No this is different. Beating Todo would not be an humiliation, both are practically equals, he wants to beat him, that's all. However it's obvious that he was picking at Deku and didn't want to acknowledge him.
They didn't know about Deku and they didn't have to. They attacked with the goal to kill AM and they had noticed that he had weakened. It's in the story.

I like the idea of bucking the trend, and I think a Deku and Froppy pairing would have a nice, refreshing dynamic. Which isn't to say I don't like Ochako, though. I don't think there's a shit girl in the series.

Todoroki is the 2nd top hero's son who got into UA through scholarship, and on top of that he beats Bakugou in the quirk exam, and also did better than him in both the hero v. villain exam and the invasion. Bakugou who came from no where and beating him would be an embarrassment for someone like Todoroki.
Bakugou doesn't want anyone to be his equal, and so lashes out at anyone who threatens his ingrained idea that he's number one.
You implied that they attacked UA because they thought that All Might had a sucessor in the school. FYI it's actually never stated that passing OFA is weakening or killing All Might, but it has been stated that All Might was already weakening because he's dying. All Might dying without a successor isn't going to make things better.

Which is weird because that's a dying profession in Japan. You don't really see this shit where the dad is never ever home in Japan anymore. That was dead in the early 90's much less now. It's a relic of Japan's economy when it was great.
Even company men work a typical 9-5 work schedule anymore; the "it's not mandatory but I don't want to be shamerfurl" overtime and "required" drinking with the boss and crew stuff is kinda vanishing too because Japanese companies (even old fashioned ones) are finally reading the fucking zillion workplace productivity studies that've been done since the 60's.
