FMA:B has a crisp, clean, and fun storyline and a diverse set of characters that keep changing and maturing as the story goes on. It's not as deep as say, cowboy bebop, but certainly has a very mature theme prevailing the whole plot. it certainly is one of the best shows to come out in the last decades.

That's not a valid way to bat off criticism for something. I didn't find the characters, the setting or interactions between the characters particularly interesting. I got about 16 episodes in before I dropped it.
>That's not a valid reason to hate something.
Overrated shit typically set your expectations too high for a series, and you'll only be set up for disappointment. You're probably never going to the series after that as you'll always just be reminded about how disappointing it was.
I now try to convince myself that everything I watch is probably going to be shit, and I find myself enjoying a lot more.

IBO has potential to be a top-tier Gundam.
Kekkai Sensen
Shokugeki no Soma
A bunch of other series that were/are decent

That's just this year, which is 1/10th of the decade as a whole, and I haven't watched every single series that's aired, so I'm sure that there's probably something that I'd remember fondly a decade from now missing from the list.

The 10s might actually be the best time to be an anime fan. If not the 10s, then probably the late 00s. There's just been so many shows being released, and there's always at least a few good shows to watch if you actually like the medium.

>>133082795

I don't think that /a/ hates Cowboy Bebop so much as it hates all of the faggots who whine that Cowboy Bebop is the best anime ever and all anime should be made along the same lines, while bashing everything that isn't an outlier work and making assumptions about the people who watch them. Given a choice between letting these people make themselves comfortable on the board and discussing an anime that aired 16 years ago and has had all discussion wrung out of it, most of /a/ doesn't find the choice to be a difficult one.

Same goes for "muh 90s" and "muh MANIME". People here don't really hate the 90s, so much as they hate all of the stupid, ignorant casuals who claim that it was a golden age, largely based off of a dozen series or so, if that, spread across the entire decade.

Fair enough. People would have given that same greentext about Haruhi in 2006.

It's tough to tell which series are decade-defining for anime fandom as a whole until a significant amount of time has passed. You can really only speak for yourself. And speaking for myself, I really liked KS and SnS, and I'm also really enjoying IBO so far.

>mass production of mediocre anime

Mass production means more shit, but it also means more good shows. The problem with these rose tinted glasses of previous decades is that they're generally based on a very small handful of shows produced over an entire 10 years of time, and those series have had time to establish themselves as industry icons. They're also commonly seen by people with a small reference pool, and have been told to expect good things from them. When you're dealing with currently airing series, you have to wade through the potential shit to find them diamonds, and you're not given as much information to set expectations.

>>133083346

Anime really isn't all the time consuming of a hobby, though. Even a busy person like a CEO or doctor could spare the time to watch two movies per week, which is about how long it takes to watch a full 12 episode series.
>>
>>133083538
Not him but why bother watching a show if you can find out that it isn't something that will appeal to you? Rather than waste a few hours every season finding out you hate something, you can use that to watch something from your backlog or shitpost on 4chan instead.

It helps to diversify your tastes. Most series usually have something which makes it worth spending 24 minutes a week watching it.
Also by watching mediocre/forgettable series, it gives you a baseline to actually judge if something is good or not.
I typically watch around 25-35 shows each season.

That's only about 10-14 hours a week (actually less, because a good chunk of those usually are short series), which is only an hour and a bit each day.
It doesn't take out that much time. Maybe it's because I actually like to watch anime unlike what a lot of /a/ seems to be like.
>>
>>133083601

I didn't like Mushishi. I found it really boring.

>GitS: SaC

I'd put this about on par with KS in terms of how much I enjoyed it.

>Haibane Renmei

This was great, but I'm pretty sure that this would get shat on like crazy as pretentious/boring shit on /a/ if it aired today by the same people who like it now. Kinda like Gunbuster fans who scream "moeshit", and you certainly wouldn't consider it to be an instant classic.

All in all, I think that you're suffering from the same rose tinted glasses that I've talked about. It doesn't matter how good a currently airing series might happen to be. It'll never measure up to muh classics in your book, at least not until it's 2025 and it's been long enough for you to look back on it with nostalgia.

I was going to say I disagree but then I looked again and I agree. From 2005-2012 I save Aria, Kino no Tabi, Maria-sama, K-on, Hyouka, and maybe Chihayafuru and Tasogare Amnesia.
Everything else I loved, because I've loved another 20 titles or so, is one step behind those (like Toshokan Senso, one of my favourite anime, it's miles behind this 6-7).
Man, 2012 really saved the 2005-2012 period, for me.

I'm a bit torn on Tasogare Amnesia, I don't remember another romance written as tight as that, I thought the ending perfectly followed the rules and I think it's a masterpiece in the fanservice-y romance genre in the sense that this is how they should be done. It's definitely in my top10 of that period but I don't know if I would consider it worth mentioning when talking about the best ever.

I learned a long time ago that you can't know for sure if you'll like something until you've watched it. I've liked things that /a/ hates, and been either bored or annoyed out of my mind by things that were getting a positive receptions on /a/.

The only qualities that I'll avoid as a rule unless something convinces me that it's different are works that appear to have a generic harem Gary Stu protagonist, anything with a cast that has too high of a male ratio (not because I dislike male casts, but because this is generally a sign of fujoshit), and anything with the usual art qualities of a shojo work. Anything else, and I'll watch it if it catches my interest.

I actually like anime. I like looking at anime, I like listening to anime music and voices, I enjoy the scripts and the characters and all the cliches they might entail. I like it when I notice animation references, I like it when I recognise the seiyuu and remember their other roles, I like it when I can pick out distinctive traits of the production staff and I like it when I can see the love poured into a show from all sides. Even "bad" shows like Million Doll, Chaos Dragon or Mahou Sensou, to name some recent examples (all of which I watched the whole way through), can still be enjoyable at some level.

>>
>>133085431
no anon, that is just what 3D in anime looks like even with budget
>>
>>133085260

Saying that anime is worse off for digital techniques might have been a valid statement in the QUALITY era of the mid-00s, but I'd say that anime looks better than ever these days. It's basically what they were shooting for in the mid-00s, except even cleaner looking.

>character who's the focus of the scene stays completely still for a long time under circumstances that should really make them move; looks extremely awkward
>animation is so inconsistent that you rewind to make sure that you didn't miss something; character will be standing there talking in one frame and on the floor the next, with no transition

Taking the lack of animation this far very rarely happens these days. You get talking heads and speed lines, but those techniques are conserved enough that they're usually not too noticeable. Even conspicuous cases aren't as bad as the 80s. Unless you're Daishogun, of course.

>QUALITY

At an all time low.

The only downside to the current era, art-wise, is that Japan is still terrible at CGI, and 100% CGI series are slowly seeping into the industry, both of which are bad things in themselves.
>>

>80s animu were middling at best with very few of them being even halfway memorable

>90s was full of overrated garbage remembered fondly only by Toonami nostalgiatards

>00s was full of weeaboo pandering shit with Death Note being the lone bright spot of that whole decade

I can't believe you guys didn't realize it was bait, how could you even entertain the idea of a "best of" list that has Inuyasha and Pokemon on it being legitimate? You should all be ashamed of yourselves.

Most of the people did, the problem is that the mods haven't deleted the thread yet, so it gets bumped by shitposters idiots.

All of this can be accomplished without spending your time watching shit.
