It doesn't really matter except for HF, which most people will recommend you read the 18+ version. So it's probably best you get the version that lets you switch between 18+ and all ages content if you've got something against sex scenes.

There's not really that much sex in it though. The game is like 70 hours long and there's only 6 sex scenes total, I think. If you read it for sex scenes you'll be massively blue balled, since the first one is like 15 hours deep into the first route and catches you completely by surprise, since by then you'll have forgotten it was an eroge.

It's pretty terrible. Most pure VNs are. Unless you're really into waifus, all you're going to get is incredibly shitty writing, a terrible translation, and some ok sex scenes. But the ok sex scenes aren't worth the fucking 90 hours of pointless text between them. Fate could have been like 10-20 hours, but the author was retarded and though length == mature and adult writing, so everything is padded to hell and back. It takes incredibly long to say or do the simplest things.

Don't bother with Fate/Stay Night. Watch Zero and the recent Stay Night anime if you find the idea interesting (although the SN anime is still pretty boring. It's hard to fix this source material), but good lord is the VN bad.

It has been a very long time since I played the original VN, but I really don't remember Shirou being this fucking annoying. Its like they've taking every bad shounen cliche and forced it on the dude. A lot of character development Shirou gets is being lost because of the lack of inner dialogue from the VN and a lot of little changes here and there. I can't remember too much, but I remember Shirou being a lot smarter and a little bit cocky-almost like a mini-Archer. I think a lot of the problem with this show stems from both missing and/or changed dialogue from the VN and the fact that UBW relies heavily upon prior knowledge of the Saber route. It's really altering the way some of the characters like Tohsaka and Shirou come off.

If you ignore the Fate/Stay Night part of the show and just look at it as generic shounen action then it works and its "ok". However as an entry in the Fate series this shit sucks.

I may catch shit for this but I believe, as far as Fate/Stay night is concerned, that the DEEN adaptation is a better "Fate/SN show" simply because there was more inner dialogue going on and better characterization. DEEN Shirou wasn't as fucking annoying till like midway through. The UBW-TV series however is a better action show/animation porn which makes it more watchable. In my opinion though it fails as an entry in the franchise if that makes any sense. Both are a shit sandwich though in comparison to what little I remember of the VN make no mistake.

Ultimately, Saber's route can really only tell her story-- Saber is a non sequitur to Shirou. Rin is connected with his past, present, and future. While Saber and Sakura use their routes to tell their own stories, Rin's route is about Shirou's present, past, and future.

She's the main girl of the series.

Saber is a wonderful girl, but she's also never realistically able to be a part of Shirou's life.

She's great, but Rin is the chosen one.
