The anime didn't really do justice to why Crab changed. In the show, there's three lines where she mentions she wants to cut her hair to move on with her life, like Hanekawa did. Then boom, she's all cheery in second season.

In the LNs, there's an entire chapter devoted to Araragi's explanation of her personality shift and how he feels about it. He explains how through the pair's confrontation with Kaiki, she was able to properly let go of her past. Senjougahara put up all those mental barriers because of what Kaiki did to her and her family, and their confrontation was a way for her to prove to both Kaiki and herself that her past didn't break her. Araragi recognizes that he was the catalyst in this; even before their confrontation with Kaiki, Senjougahara was slowly becoming more comfortable with herself around Araragi, and she wouldn't have wanted to come to peace with her past at all if she wasn't dating him. He goes on to say how he really prefers the "new" Senjougahara.

The anime also doesn't have Araragi and Senjougahara interact directly on screen for the entirety of Season 2 + Hana. We don't see a single hint of their relationship from the end of Bake to the end of Tsuki. What even.

I like what the author did to Crab, in theory. But we don't know how much depth she actually has as a character now because she's had so little screen time since her change. She seemed pretty interesting in how she balanced her old sarcastic and cold personality with her new loving side when she met Kaiki at the airport, but that's one scene out of like 10 story arcs. Right now, she is a shit character because all we've been shown makes it seem like she got neutered to make her cuter.

How exactly is she boring? She gives great advice, has good jokes, and in Kizu and Tiger she was pretty awesome. I was sad how they cut out the part in Family where Hanekawa scarily saw through Araragi's tsundere with the cheek healing. The anime took away some of the imposing presence and wit. Glad that stuff was in the commentaries. It's sad that the anime only part of the fandom view her as just the shy class prez cliche, when her character is a total deconstruction of it.

The odd point about that conversation was that Gaen knew that she liked being told that she wasn't special, which some people missed. That was the only thing that almost got her seriously mad, I am surprised no one focused on that part, where Tsubasa ended up saying, "what do you think you know about me?!" and that tense stared own at that end.

I guess you could call it getting BTFO, but I remembered the last part of Neko Black and things just got murky. Part of it I think, is that Araragi told her during Golden Week to keep the facade and not change, and her last line after their confrontation of his "we'll be like this all our lives" to her unconscious answer of "there is no way that's right" showed she already knew her situation was wrong internally.

Plus the anime didn't show Tsubasa Song, which showed she was making an effort to manage her stress and emotions. It's why I think the anime framed the issue wrongly imho. The part about Araragi FINALLY saying it was okay for her to be who she really was at the end of Tiger just isn't as poignant without that context. Her asking him if it was okay doesn't have that emotional punch otherwise. For that matter he was kind of an asshole to say that it was a dumb question when he himself told her it wasn't okay before.

So, I think she really was cornered in life to try to belong and that was why she adopted the facade for so long of being "perfect", the anime neglected to show her monologue about the friends who abandoned her when she confided in them about her family. Embracing her emotions was one thing, but when we get right down to it, she was told to just suck it up cold turkey. Her parents got off scot-free as well, no one thought to report them for neglect.

I dunno, while I agree with Tsubasa taking responsibility for herself, the story kind of just says there was no real cure for her problem no matter what self-actualization she attained, which was to be accepted and have a family. Oshino pinning the blame squarely on her and forgetting the parents part was a little much as well. It put everything on her shoulders and gave her a long lonely road at the end of it.

To be fair, Araragi back in Neko/Kizu was a bit of a dumb fuck.
He was in a bad place as much as Hanekawa was and he just like Hanekawa basically were going about living their lives wrong.
Oshino tried to change Araragi for the better and it sorta worked but not while he was around, Araragi only really changed once Oshino left.

Hanekawa was given an unnecessary burden from a high school idiot. which was only corrected in Neko White at which point everything got better.

Hanekawa's parents should have by all rights been punished for their actions but they weren't. Hanekawa barely punished them as Black Hanekawa and until Neko White, she just didn't want to rock the boat.
Even afterwards she didn't really want to cause too much hassle even asking for something as basic as a room.

Oshino taking the parent's side is incorrect as well. He was just pointing out their point of view, as he does with everything else.
