I'm still pretty new to the game. Am I correct in thinking that Assault Chip and Auto-Eject are almost completely worthless?

It seems to me like nearly all the time Turbo Engine or Nuke Eject will be the most useful abilities in a given situation.

Basically yeah. Overcore is also pretty good. It starts you at 20% core meter and after you use a core, it resets at 20% again instead of 0. So basically you only have to collect 80% meter to pop a core. If you're good and able to keep your titan along for long periods of time, it helps you get a lot more mileage out of it since the average player is probably only getting a single core per titan, where as you can get 3+ per titan using overcore.

I personally don't like nuke eject because it does nothing to prolong the lifespan and effectiveness of my titan. I don't get in expecting to ever lose my titan (even though realistically I'll probably lose at least one per game), so I take kits that keep me in the fight as long as possible instead of having a dramatic finisher that only works if I get fucked up and lose.

While I feel Assault is interesting, much of the game is maddening. Many times, your team comp doesn't matter when you're fighting a squad that outlevels yours. Sometimes, it feels overwhelming seeing all these grunts and turrets and Pilots popping up all over the place while you don't have any resources of your own to put up any convincing fight. I want to like Assault, but I can't stand its bullshit at times.

Stim gets you from 0 to 100 in but an instant, literally. Grapple is also speed in a can you could argue, but it has a wind-up time and you can't shoot while you're using it. With stim you accelerate in an instant and you can shoot just fine. Stim is speed in a can and it's just ridiculous.
Phase is as 'fine' as it could be (i.e. it isn't unfair in the strictest sense). But being able to poof out of existence even if for a second is stupid, being able to break an engagement like that is stupid. Phase shift should have never been a thing. Little too late for that, though.

well i guess there goes your theory.

but the reason most people can't use hitscan weapons while going fast has nothing to do with skill. if anything, poor aimers are rewarded more than good aimers, especially with guns like the R97 and G2. first of all, the crosshairs literally lie to you, so good aimers who are conditioned to actually use their crosshairs end up missing. second, all non-SMG hitscan guns have significantly poorer airborne accuracy than standing, and poorer hip accuracy than ADS. this compounds with the issue of ADS/scope inertia when you're going fast. idk if you ever noticed, but the faster you're going, the harder you have to fight to move your sight while ADS'd.

so if you add all those problems up, you end up with weapons that literally reward you for aiming badly and going slow, and actively punish you for aiming well and learning to go fast. it's a ridiculously fucked-up system and one of titanfall 2's abject failures of game design.

I don't think a titan would work, because titans are meant to link with a pilot who they protect along with relinquish control. Imagine having to let someone control your body while you sat there.
Also, reaper would be impracticle because they were designed by the IMC to just overwhelm Titans and Pilots with a huge barage of constant attack fire from all directions.

Personally I run Overcore and Energy Thief with the specifics of Missile Racks, Energy Siphon, and Enhanced Chassis. You can swap out the missiles for accelerator rounds and energy siphon for maelstrom depending on your playstyle.
