Odd. Is that a bug, or did they change it in an update? The evac point shifted to just outside the refinery like normal when I played it a while back.

And Concussion Rockets are pretty awful, yeah. Do they damage cover? I suppose they could be used like a giant smoke grenade, albeit one you have to fire first then advance into.

I did the same, assumed it was just any ol mission. Nope, like 30 aliens within a few moves of the start point. Restarted the campaign after dying a load of times. It was impossible, every pack was close, and kept moving towards us. No time to kill pack 1 before pack 2 showed up and so on. Shit was stupid. At the start they're really nice, but smash and grabs are just supply, once you free a region or two you'll be swimming in it. Other sorts of raids that give full salvage for corpses and what have you are far more important.

They're worth the attempt if you can get some good infiltration on them, but you can squeeze by without.

How the fuck do these floaty dicks work? It looks like their spotting range is the exact same as ours, meaning it's impossible to discover their pods without activating them. This is on my first mission, where scanners aren't an option, and the only way I even got this screenshot was using someone who could stand one square in it's spotting, which apparently goes through trees, barriers and around the full cover she's standing behind, pictured here.

Is this meant to encourage savescumming? Or is it just supposed to be a lolfuckyou?

I just realized I don't really like how XCOM 2 plays.
I mean the game is great and stuff, but I hate being rushed by timers, I just don't enjoy the missions where there's a timer, and there are timers on like every mission.

Of course this could just be temporary asshurt because I'm getting wrecked in long magnificence 2, but really, dropping into a mission with a timer that says "end this in 10 turns or you get wrecked" and the objective being on the other side of the planet, and the evac point being on the other side of the planet from the obejctive, with seven hundred and thirty-two pods between point A, B and C just drains me mentally

While Drones have a pretty big detection radius, you can definitively see them before they see you, their detection radius is definitively not the same as yours.

As for the giant pods, i don't remember what the mechanic is called but it's a thing, you should be able to control whether you launch missions with a million advent or missions with like 9 tops. You are probably not used to the magnificent mechanics of long dong 2.

you still require roughly the same stuff to unlock psi lab (1 sectoid corpse and some supplies, etc)

The psi op starts with 4 abilities and can only learn 7 more, to learn a new ability they must spend time in the psi lab, but in order to unlock more abilities to learn they must rank up normally like any soldier on the battlefield, which means they must spend a lot more time before they have the fun abilities like domination or goatse.

I recommend you train solace, fortress and stasis as soon as they become available (stasis is a lv 4 ability now) as they unlock domination and void rift.

The Defense Matrix is astonishingly powerful when the Avenger Defense mission comes around and otherwise useless. Personally I build it the first chance I get, then demolish it afterwards to save on power. But I've had a couple of nightmare runs where Avenger Defense popped up while I was still on Ballistic/early Mag weapons and having the turrets really evens the odds at that point.

The base xcom gear can look quite nice with some good customisation, play around a bit. Also you can get a mod which allows you to mix and match any pieces you have, so if you have 2nd tier armour you can make it look as if youre wearing kevlar for example

Does legendary add more pods? I just tried assaulting the blacksite and I really don't remember there being this many enemies on Commander. Also are patrols drawn to you once you begin combat? Because I can sit in one spot and skip 6 turns and nobody shows up, but as soon as I ambush the first pod, within the next turn I have 9 different enemies wandering into LoS. I've basically been reduced to just sitting on a roof and taking potshots at all the dudes, because if I ever try to use anyone to flank, they inevitable get flanked by another two pods that wander in from fog of war

I just quit after the 3 advent reinforcements dropped. I was on ps4, saved the clip to confirm I didn't just flub the input. I'd like to overhaul psionics for LW2. I hate the fact that you put a couple of mooks in a tank for several months and out pop gods.

Specifically, I want to create 2 different Psionic classes: A psi invoker, and a Psi Cleric. Invokers focus on damage, debilitating and controlling enemies. Psi Clerics focus on healing, enabling, and buffing allies. Psions get new abilities or enhancements to existing abilities by completing alien autopsies. However, it requires a baseline amount of will or psi offense and will to learn, which can only be increased through going on missions and successfully utilizing abilities and not being wounded or shaken.

I was thinking about having psi cleric be built around Fortress, psi inspire, and mind merge, and the Psi Invoker built around things like soulfire, insanity, mind control and psi rift.

I was thinking like that high level psi clerics basically are like aurabots that can passively protect their team mates and give them bonuses. But that's just me.

Now, obviously, I really like the non linear ability progression for the psi labs. I want to keep that. But I'm faced with two problems:

>A.) I don't know JACK SHIT about scripting or modding the tactical or strategy layers.
>B.) I don't know what these two seperate classes abilities would look like or do.

What do you guys think? Would you be able to help me flesh this puppy out?

Try to avoid having an A-team. Take as many Rookies as you can without crippling yourself during the early missions. You want to train up as many people as you can at a similar tank. Otherwise you end up with an extremely brittle roster and something like this happens - your special hero squad all dies and you're left throwing mooks against squads of Mutons and MECs.

Ironman is indeed a bad idea, at least until Jake fixes his game.

Lord god, I don't know if I like this game. I loved EU/EW I don't like the implementation of timers at all, or maybe I just don't get it. The feel... like cheap hardness. This is the bad feeling I got playing Darkest Dungeon, that game felt like just being pushed into an RNG machine and throttling back and fourth, until you snowball over the enemy.

Some missions are just, stupid, not hard, just stupid. In EW timed missions had things like bombs, you could work towards slowing the timers, or the timers didn't just me outright YOU LOSE SQUAD NOW.

I've been trying multiple things like, advancing as far to an objective as possible while concealed, this seems to just be a bad idea as you just end up fighting more pods at once.

I just got pissed at some dumb shit wiped 3 squad members, so I sent my remaining 2 soldier into a flank only heavy death run. THEY COMPLETED THE FUCKING MISSION. Is this what I should be doing? Pure rangers and grenadiers?

I don't want to put down one of my all time favorite series but, fuck, I fucking hate timers in literally every game they are in.

I hate running every mission in accordance to the all oppressive mighty high lord "THE TIMER"

I will give it a shot. I really wouldn't mind if timers did something other than YOU FUCKING LOSE FAGGET GIT GUD.

I feel it would be much better if once you hit the timer limit, enemy reinforcements arrive in droves. In order to keep the "captured" mechanic, which I do like, you could "surrender remaining troops". Maybe when the timer is up, your escape shit is revealed and starts taking fire each turn, losing you intel/supplies or mission rewards.

You CAN play that way, or you can just use your squad correctly and enjoy 3-turn firefights where every class gets to shine.

le creeping overwatch strat is a meme. Early game your troops have shit aim and not enough perks to guarantee they'll kill anything with it, not to mention that since it doesn't have Xcom 2's 1 at a time overwatch, you can waste an entire squad's worth of shots on one enemy. Late game, most enemies have innate defense so high that the only ones hitting will be infantry, which is half the point of their entire class.

Well xcom2 is set up in such a way that you can do set it up so you can play however you fucking want, unless you are scared of autists on the internet yelling at you. This isn't LW1 where we have Lump doing his best to crucify beagle.

Another issue is that enemies in the endgame are extremely deadly because they get high aim, not that they get high defense. So they have to be wiped out in a single turn or else they will be criting you through heavy cover while suppressed and flashbanged. What really needs to happen to make alpha strike not the dominant strategy is to not have losing one soldier such a big hit in your overall game, not just the battle you lose them.

Completely agree tbqh. That's something the original did really well and I'm surprised they haven't been able to replicate it. They also need to make extractable ayy corpses official, so even if you have to abort a mission and lose half your squad, you can still salvage something out of it by getting that corpse you need for research/ a engineering project.

Has anyone ever said that timers might be because we have concealment now? It makes sense to me, because strategies like you just laid out would make the game incredible easy, but wouldn't be possible without concelament. Remember that xcom1 didn't have concealment, and Long War 1 has it as a very high perk.

You're not entirely wrong, but the 2 main issues are that the timer still runs in concealment that it's balanced poorly.

Pods aren't as spread out in 2 as they are in 1, they're clustered around the objective in comparison to patrolling the map. The more time you waste in concealment NOT gunning down pods means a tighter extraction against likely multiple pods. Concealment is gimmick-tier 90% of the time.

Concealment rangers definitely aren't gimmick tier, they are very nearly a map hack, you just have to position them so they don't reveal which isn't too hard. I know people complain about grenadiers being too good, but my vote goes to the ranger just because of concealment.

because the sight range of aliens is a known qauntity, it isn't as powerful as concealment for you whole squad because you can make a misstep for sure, which can be lessened by being slow and careful. Which is probably also the reason for why aliens patrol towards you if they aren't in contact. Concealment should just be removed, both squad and ranger.

I guess some pole like forced losses, other people at least want a reasonable possibility of accomplishing a given mission.

I've begrudgingly accepted that sometimes every civilian in the terror missions is in the back corner, along with every alien. Sometimes you have 8 turns to do the entire mission. Meaning if all the pods are at the obj, you get to play HURR DURR RNG, throw mimic beacon and fucking bail.

Also rulers basically mean the mission is a failure the second they show up on any mission thats slim on turns.

Pick a good position and engage a patrol outside the base. The noise mechanic means the other pods will move towards you. Wait until you've cleared out a lot of ayys, then move into the base to clear out the general pod.

Try to come as close to the console in the tower before you engage them, sometimes that will take 30 turns but its worth the stress of having constant reinforcements in your butt.
