ITT let's predict Star Citizen metacritic reviews.

4/10 - not playing again until this crap gets patched

So basically, your character dies and you lose all your progress and have to create another character and start all over again. What is this crap? Diablo was like 20 years ago or whatever.

There is no sense of progression, no reward system, no investment in to character, no point in doing any reputation stuff because it gets wiped on death.

Iron sights. Enough said. What is this crap? This isn't 2002. And why does the gun jerk all over the screen when firing? How come they have laser based weapons and yet can't find anything to reduce recoil of ballistics?

Oh and don't get me started on this grind bullshit. Hundreds of millions of credits to buy the big fun ships, and the shit elitist community with the "only my org should have access to good stuff" mentality.

Annoying animations. No, I don't want to watch my character get out of bed every time I log in. And I don't think it's interesting to watch a cutscene of walking up some steps to get in my ship.

Also, it takes too long to get anywhere. You're basically stuck in one part of the game unless you spend like 20 hours jumping and refueling to get to a more interesting star system.

SC is more of a tactical shooter than an arena shooter. Boarding a ship should be more like a round of Counterstrike or Rainbow Six than a round of Overwatch. If you really disagree with that then I don't know what to say to you.

>>
>>173089810
That is actually a reasonable answer.
I can see how that's a problem.
As long as you don't introduce stupid shit like that though iron sights is simply the most realistic way to do it so I just can't wrap my head around why people would hate them.
>>
>>173090358
Iron sights simply marked the end of fast-paced arena shooters and the beginning of endlessly slow casual console shooters with kill streaks, death streaks and generally badly designed everything.
>>
>>173090601
There were plenty of "fast paced arena shooters", people just didn't buy them.

Its not really the fault of ironsights and similar features if people just stop being interested in Quake.
>>
>>173090601
So you dislike them not for being bad but for being generally associated with bad practices?
Also what is the better alternative to iron sights? Just 24/7 hip fire?
>>
>>173090842
>Just 24/7 hip fire?
Non-intrusive optics, hip fire, and it would be interesting to see independent firing from torso orientation, like swinging your arms around like holding down ctrl while aiming.

>muh huge iron sights and slow """tactical""" gameplay
>>
>>173090764
Nobody said it's the fault of iron sights, it's just that iron sights are the common factor of such games. Of course it's actually the dumbass no-skill console audience lapping up bad game design and not wanting to play games that have "nothing to unlock".
>>173090842
I just explained that iron sights are iconic for those games, not that I like or dislike them myself.
>>
>>173091023
>Non-intrusive optics
When people say "ironsights" you realize they don't actually mean just literal irons, right

Its a shorthand for ADS, be that reflex, holo, whatever.

The difference between that and actual ironsights is absolutely nothing, however. I have no clue what you're even talking about at this point
>>
>swinging your arms around while firing a weapon
Wew, good thing you're not involved in any game's development cause that's just plain retarded.
As for "non intrusive optics and hip fire" first I don't get what's intrusive about iron sights, you can just make the animation really quick, and the whole criticism is sounding a lot like Quake players who never got over the fact that FPS games moved away from superfast arena shooters to realistic, slower paced games.
Pretty much a non-issue.

>>

>>173091873

Red Orchestra 2 actually has something like that and it makes hip fire completely useless.

This discussion supports my belief that FD are some of the greatest Visionaries in gaming. And also some of the worst coders.

They have great ideas.....but they dont have the programing skill to implement their vision (or make it run without crashing or disconnecting every 5 minutes).

They also have their priorities twisted. I read that FD had "a whole team working on the cmdr creator for over a year". This seemed like a gross misappropriation of resources considering how many other areas of the game could have benefited from that extra manpower(milticrew especially). But they saw the potential to make more money without actually providing anything meaningful or gameplay related(or fixing what was broken). So....dont worry......multicrew may be a shadow of what was promised......but they made sure you can buy a 5 dollar colored jacket for your cmdr.....and dont forget the tattoos.......BAKA

>FD are some of the greatest Visionaries in gaming

If they were great visionaries, they wouldn't have bothered adding multicrew until more systems were fleshed out to actually support it. What even is multicrew? It's a shitty minigame that will be fun for maybe 30 minutes and serves no purpose other than be a tacky gimmick so they can say "look, we're encouraging multiplayer!" Frontier are fucking idiots, through and through, don't let them fool you.

>hmm... how do we add more things for players to do while letting them improve their flight?
>i know! lets add npcs that let you upgrade your ship by collecting mats
>great! other games have done the same thing!

Yeah, it sounds like a great idea, but they spent no time at all in thinking how these systems would impact the game as a whole instead of simply letting players upgrade their ship performance by some arbitrary percentage. See: the heat meta fiasco and heal beams. Frontier's horribly simplistic and naive methods of game design is how we ended up with update after update of endless mounds of shit like Powerplay, CQC (which is fucking dead), Engineers, and now Multicrew.

Yeah that's full retard. They need some sort of consultant who has a background in vehicle design or at least a background in the Navy so they can pick up on this sort of shit during design. At the very least, a half competent QA dude who can think through hypotheticals.

Oh. I was blind and thought the cockpit was at the front of the ship instead of on the side. So the situation is marginally less of a disaster than I was imagining. I thought they had to push through the entirety of all the cargo bays (presumably full of obstacles) to get to their guns.

How many cargo crews are going to be horribly murdered by pirates before they think to do some redecorating?

Their reasoning for shitty turret placement and other horrible design decisions is that "it gives the ships character", so it's probably not gonna change.

Unfortunately for CIG, poor design choices isn't 'Character'.
Ship components which draw the eye or shapes and design philosophies unique to a particular vendor is. This 'character' just means you either need some tard fully geared up wandering the halls on the off chance something occurs which is just stupid.
If you have a boat full of randos, you don't want them geared up at all times, you want them stowing all firearms and shit in a place you know and control. If someone boards, the bridge is the place you want to co-ordinate and mount your defence from.

Everything is a balancing nightmare.
Rockets now more than missiles no more than mass drivers, no more than infinite ammo energy weapons.

Rockets like big fat missiles are a high alpha low ammo weapon. They're cheap but you have to get relatively close and line up the shot. Something like a gladiator with 5 S5 torps and a shitload of rockets is precisely the reason larger slower ships will fly with a fighter escort. The fighter isn't there to kill attacking hornets, they cant really hurt something like a Hull D alone anyway. The escort fighter is there to keep the gladiator or other strike bomber from getting close enough to accurately dump all its rockets into the engines.

>>
>>173125951
They quite clearly have different amounts of rockets on the same size pylon, anon.

Rockets aren't going to go into exactly the same size category that weapons and missiles do
>>
>>173125842
Infinite ammo energy weapons are easier to balance because they overheat and the damage isn't out of line with a standard weapon of their size. Can't penetrate shields, low alpha strike.

Missiles, sure they do pretty good damage but not insane amounts, and for the really hefty ones you only can carry a couple at most. Their damage is always going to be low(er) because they have tracking and are piss easy to employ, don't want them to have great damage either.

Mass drivers are probably the worst of the three, but even then their rate of fire is low and the damage isn't anything incredible.

Meanwhile rockets are very high damage, and don't overheat. They have really high alpha strike, and to balance that out have really slow projectiles, but this doesn't factor in when hitting larger targets. They're the worst offenders for throwing balance out, by far.

Look, I understand your concerns about shitposting, and even share them as hard as that is to believe.

Unfortunately CR and Braben have conspired to hamstring our discussion, at least temporarily, by not controlling their companies and letting the games spin out of control over bullshit that should be a non issue in both cases. edg and scg are both waiting for the next shoe to drop, and there isn't anything of consequence to talk about right now.

The three alternatives then are to rehash old shit, shitpost, or let the thread die. It's been stated several times that most people are just waiting on the next update anyway, so why not join in on the absurdity, instead of 50 replies of 'bump'. Most of us have a sense of humor about it.

Footage I posted is him aiming for the head and hitting it 15 times. Maybe it's shitty netcode? If you have the footage of SM TTK where K doesn't stand for "enought time to go Kart racing", do post it. Because every single death in that video took around 3-4 full seconds.

>Footage I posted is him aiming for the head and hitting it 15 times.

Where? Not sitting through levelcap's garbage

One of the bugs was that the ironsights were functioning as they actually do in real life, leading people to not do a proper hold and "aiming" for the head but are in actual fact pointing their gun at someone's chest, I hope you know that. At least for the only gun that was worth using, the ballistic rifle.

Boo fucking hoo, what a drama queen. As a creator you need to know where to take the high road. Going public about that shit instead of keeping it personal or maybe quietly contacting his lawyer or authorities is what a kid in school would do. And he or his lawyers understood how retarded his decision was, that's exactly why the thing died out as soon as Escapist told him to piss off.

Fact : Cargo ship don't have stairs leading from the dock to the conning tower.
Fact : The CIC and conning tower of warship are also behind a lot of twisty corridors all alike.
Fact : Landing-ship aren't made to have their captain debark with the troops.
Fact : Almost all large military aircraft ask you to pass by the cargo area or sometime the bomb bay to get to the cockpit, at best you can get in airliner by the front landing gear and through the avionic bay
Fact : With older military plane the engineering room was part of the cockpit.
Fact : Factory ship and offshore platform don't have better access either except to safety pods
Speculation : you'll love the design when the UEE troops of a Q-ship board your Caterpillar and you must eject the cockpit before they reach you.

You are just a idiot for expecting the captain of a cargo ship to get his private elevator.

it remains to be seen if they'll balance things well enough for it not to be worth just bringing the most fuck-you-alpha-strike superhornet and something with peashooters and plenty of room, or two multirole vessels.

Yeah but in terms of firepower it's just pathetic. I know it's not meant to be an incredible fighter but this is just ridiculous. You have that retarded peashooter which you can't even swap for a better gun and the only thing to make up for it is the high speed and maneuverability but it's still inferior to the Buccaneer in that regard. Not to mention the fact that the cockpit displays are STILL not in your FOV with no plans to fix that AFAIK.
>>
>>173182910
>You have that retarded peashooter which you can't even swap for a better gun

Tigerstreik T-21 has the best DPS of any S3, and its better than a few S4s.

You also pay for combat ability in trade for a cargo hold, like I said.
>>
>>173182243
and abandon his shiny fighter? And how is he going to steal a disabled ship. A trader isn't going to just hand you his ship because you threatened him. You're gonna have to disable him to board and if you've done that, you wont be flying the ship away after.

>>173182746
There's no webbers in SC, no tackling mechanics to hold someone down and demand money. Piracy is going to be a game of sniping engines without destroying cargo, then stealing the cargo.
>>
>>173183086
>Tigerstreik T-21 has the best DPS of any S3
Yes but it's seriously undermined buy the huge delay between user input and actually firing, plus the DPS is highly diluted in the super high rate of fire, meaning to actually do any damage you have to perfectly lock your target and not let the pip move ever, which is impossible.

>You also pay for combat ability in trade for a cargo hold, like I said.
I understand, and I'm not expecting it to be perfectly on par with a Sabre or Buccaneer, but right now it's more like it doesn't stand a chance *at all*.

yeah meaning you''' be able to knock someone out of QD by some means and attack them.
and they'll be able to fly free of the QD "obstacle and jump again. It's not like you'll be able to just turn off someones Qdrive and demand things.

probably 90% of the ships you tr to tackle are just going to run away. the other 10% are going to fight. The job of a pirate is going to be either win the fight, fight in a place where a QD jump is not easy due to obstacles like and asteroid belt and disable them before they can escape or tackle people in open space and be marksman enough with your weapons to cripple their ships before they can escape without just using all the Dakka and blowing the shit out of everything including the cargo you want to steal.

Quantum interdiction means pulling someone out of warp with an obstruction either real or simulated and then maneuvering a ship in front of them to keep their ability to jump obstructed. Why do you think all the freighters have such massive forward guns which they will never be able to hold on an evading target? It's to blast their jump vector clear and escape.
>>
>>173183391
Interdiction isn't webbing though. Webbing is EVE terminology detailing the massive reduction in speed of ships. In SC it's basically holding a ship stationary or slow enough to allow boarding.
>>
>>173183126
If he can still turn a profit after buying a new fighter once he liquidates the cargo and cargo ship, then yes. He might very well abandon his shiny fighter.

However the more likely scenario is that a pirate who's piloting a purebred fighter craft isn't going to be a lone actor. He'll be working as part of a squad where dedicated combat craft disable the prey so that a support vessel can safely be brought in. That support vessel will either be bringing the cargo capacity to haul away some of the goods, or a boarding team for capturing the target ship.

I also have a hard time believing that there will be no way in the game to macgyver some life back into the engines or else the game is going to have a huge problem with trolls who shoot out engines 24/7 for the lolz.
>>
>>173184712
The more important consideration is that you're not going to be flying the freelancer you've attacked and crippled away to sell it. If you're stealing its cargo and have control of the ship, you've already crippled it. If you can macguyver the engines, so can the pilot and the minute you get out of your ship to board his he's gonna be spooling them back up. The pure fighter is going to be an expensive extravagence that generates no profit on its own, a financial drain that will require you to engage larger more dangerous targets to make money. A crew of one of more combat ships and a support vessel is going to be encountering higher operating costs. prey on freelancers probably wont pay the bills.Particularly if they spray missiles at you and kill something. Which they will, replacing missiles is cheaper than replacing a ship.

No one is just going to stand by while you take their ship. And if you're solo EVAing to an enemy craft to board it after disabling it is almost certain death. The Solo fighter pirate is a dead end. The risks are huge, the unavoidable costs are high and the potential profit low. Group play is more likely, but I still doubt people will be flying dedicated fighters much when Pirating. in a wolfpack theres little a superhornet can do that a Cutlass wont be able to, and the cutlass can carry both cargo and boarding party, while delivering the same firepower at a lower cost. the Hrnet only has agility and speed, which are nice if you're looking fro a fight, but pirates are not, they're looking for profit. The only people who are going to fly Single seat dedicated fighters are Kill-Contract bounty hunters, Mercenaries and pirates who like appearances more than money. Fighters are for people who are looking to kill people and destroy ships. Pirates are looking to steal things and make money, you need cargo space for that and more is better, every ship not carrying booty is a net loss of credits.

The cargo escort meta may dictate fighter vs fighter over a group of cargo ships.

If human pirates are as effective as we hope we can be, the most profitable cargo runs will be made in a protected convoy. There will be a need for at least a few dedicated fighters, if escort missions become a real thing.

Even with escort missions tailored for combat craft, not every combat ship will have the fuel range to do them.

>buy a new fighter
i'm pretty sure military vehicles are way more expensive than a truck. you are also not going to sell at a regular prices since it's stolen ship and goods. also anyone carrying shit worth enough to buy a whole new ship is going to hopefully hire security. solo pirating is not going to be profitable enough to just abandon your ship like that.

as for fixing it will probably take some time to do so. enough for law enforcement or bounty hunters to arrive at the location.
that would be pretty cool at least

I'm disgusted by how women were treated during gamergate. I personally welcome women into the gaming community, even when you kick my stern in PvP :-)
I don't judge men who play female characters. My main in ESO is a female character.
Why do I ask? I'm just curious. A universe with no women would indeed be dead and boring. I've seen some female avatars in the forum, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything. I have a couple of female friends who love sci fi & astronomy and might enjoy ED (my wife is not one of them), so I would actually be surprised if there were only a handful playing.

How the fuck did you get yourself into that mess?

Here are a few ways you can potentially dig yourself out of that hole.

1: Start ditching tonnage. If you have access to a shipyard then sell of basically everything that isn't your FSD and fuel scoop. Ditch your guns, ditch your shields, and downgrade most everything else to the smallest D rated components that you can find. If that's barely not enough, you can try flying around in supercruise for fucking forever until you drain enough fuel out of your fuel tanks to lighten yourself enough for the jump.

2: If the shipyard supports it, liquidate your ship to buy a good jumper. Stripped down haulers can be converted into long jumping taxis on the cheap (double check prices before you pull the trigger on selling your ship).

3: I think dying and opting for the welfare sidewinder instead of your ship teleports you back to wherever you initially spawned in the bubble. I'm not certain about this though since its been forever since I looked at that button.

4: Bitch and whine to tech support like a Dad who lost everything he owned after flying without insurance.

As I said, Erin is historically not full of shit. And the Frankfurt and Manchester offices are both his and the largest subsections of CIG by a huge margin. Frankfurt is particular is the people who get technical shit done, break down barriers and routinely strike stuff off the list of "Impossible in cry engine" It was one fo them that just disappeared into a room for 6 weeks and then came out with a functioning planet builder. And it's manchester the produces all the best Jpegs, a couple weeks back they just casually tossed out a "here's the reclaimer in engine that you didn't even know we'd started work on"

The only reason to buy SC now is to bet that the game won't go up when 3.0 releases, which it most certainly will. There isn't much to do aside from get familiar with your ship and how combat works. There is a basic bitch, slow fps as well if you want.
>>
>>173189885
An alpha, a low content, feature incomplete, literal software Dev alpha, not a marketing alpha to attract attention. The game is very very not finished to the point where its not actually a game. There's like 4 hours of stuff to do maybe and then it's pvp arena mode death matches.

And I'm a fanatic who has spent $2000 on the game. Unless you really want to participate in the alpha like I do, or know for a fact that you're gonna get the game eventually anyway forget about it for another six months at least, in six months the alpha MIGHT be a game. Right now it is way more incomplete than the average early access survival game. If somewhat better made and shinier.

It will almost certainly not be getting a steam release, theres no gain to it for them, they have amazon for distro and they don't need the exposure, SC is probably the most exposed IP in the vidya world right now and it's not even really playable. Going to steam would just be giving them money for no reason.

Some of the combat ships have pretty garbage jump range.

You may want to consider setting up a hyperspace taxi so that you can jump yourself around the bubble and then just pay the fee to fedex your combat vessel to your location.

https://coriolis.io/outfit/hauler/0p2t3F0l3d3s3f2---30---.AwRj4ig=.Aw19A===

^The above Hauler build can grant you access to 30+ LY jump ranges for ~230k (you'll need to shut off your cargo hatch to keep the lights on)

Quality of life upgrades to the Hauler taxi would be maxing out with a 2A power plant for improved heat efficiency when fuel scooping, a 3A fuel scoop for stupid overkill in your fuel scoop rate, and a 2A power distributor for spamming boost in real space. Those quality of life upgrades boost the cost up to just shy of 1.3 million. Most of that's the 900k 3A fuel scoop. Even with all the bells and whistles, that's still a bargain price compared to any ship capable of surpassing the Hauler's jump range.

This is proven to be possible another upcoming mmo has demonstrated this tech working. I also talked to a dude IRL who said several upcoming games who are years out are planning on using this tech.
>>
>>173192863

Ship bulkheads were put in the game long before HRPs existed, and were balanced around the fact that they're a free slot that can essentially double your armor. And then never given a second look.

Also HRPs added like 90 armor for the top tier when they were first introduced and were justifiably ignored by the community entirely when SCB+bulkheads completely outclassed them.

No, you can play both sides of the fence with no consequence. Federation and Empire are 2 of the 3 major factions in the game. You can be the highest rank in both simultaneously, and unlock ships and systems for doing so.

>it didn't even place the ship in launch position. It was in landing position instead

Dafuq just happened
>>
>>173199684
Yes. At present Elite is about grinding to grind better.

Certain ships are gated behind achieving certain ranks in different factions. They've progressively been making the grind to unlock faction rank worse. In this case the two ships in question are the Imperial Cutter and Federal Corvette. The cutter is the best cargo transport in the game, and the Corvette is the only ship capable of mounting two size 4 weapons.

I'll admit that my desire for the ships is fueled by a mix of just wanting to check off boxes on my collection and a forlorn hope that someday the framework of the game is used to create something truly great. Maybe Sandro will encounter an unfortunate lethal accident and his replacement will absolutely ignore all input from the Dads. I can dream.

It means the game was prepared to give this pad to another ship when you logged in and now its correcting itself. It happens.

To accomplish anything of note in EVE, you need to work cooperatively with other players.

Dads only get to play 1-2 hours a week and have almost no friends to play with. They don't have time to find a group to play with, and they don't have the time to stick through group activity to completion.

They're bitter old farts and HATE HATE HATE how players working together can accomplish more than them. To that end they vehemently oppose anything cooperative. They're opposed to guilds/corporations. They're opposed to improved inter-player communication tools. They're opposed to improvements to the barebones party system that the game already has. They're opposed to incentives for players to come out of solo mode and group up in open mode. On that point, they're more than just opposed to incentives. They're actively in favor of disincentivizing cooperation, as seen by the shitty payout cuts that you'll take if you decide to work with a friend with the new multicrew system.

>>
>>173206659
>>173207348
I have a hard time even processing that kind of mentality. I used to be an anti-social edgelord extreme in games but I was never against the concept of player interaction like the forum-dads seem to be.
>>
>>173207348
No new player is going to understand that open is full of psychopaths. It's not rational to expect them to understand that if they try to play in the common sand box than they'll be bullied relentlessly by players who they have no hope of defeating.

The biggest problem elite has, and it may very well be a fatal problem, is that there is no mechanism to curb anti-social behaviour. This is a problem because many people, when they encounter such behaviour, choose to leave the community rather than directly confront these people in game. It is as Rousseau explained about the state of nature : those who would be oppressed will simply leave rather than exist compliantly under the power of others. This is a problem for elite because instead of players enriching the experience of other players by creating content for the dev, the principle strength of MMOs, they are instead choosing to disengage from the game entirely.

This isn't a force of nature we are talking about. These players aren't stumbling into a black hole out of hubris. They're being, as evidenced by the video, harassed to satisfy some player's sadism. If that's how someone gets their kicks, fine, but it's not a sustainable process. It is toxic and it will eventually kill the game. The game cannot and will not persist to run for a handful of players who get their kicks by torturing small animals. If that is all that remains of the player base it will collapse and none of us will have this game any longer.
>>
>>173208820
I'm pretty sure that the dads aren't even aware of how they are. They're just selfish and oppose things that they can't/won't benefit from.

I think part of it is fueled by a midlife crisis and a desire to escape into childhood fantasies of being Han Solo as they putter around the galaxy in their lovingly customized rust bucket.

The intrusion of a hostile player that is more skilled, has a better ship, or both shatters their illusion. Really the dads didn't want a multiplayer game in the first place and they were promised an offline mode back during the kickstarter days.

IMO the solo/private group modes are almost a good solution for keeping the communities separate. The Dads don't want us intruding on their fantasy. We don't want to deal with the Dad's bullshit. The problem is that the current implementation of the modes basically makes solo/private group modes game breakingly powerful for any sort of galaxy wide competition. You can't fight a war or blockade space when people can circumvent any military presence by popping into their own pocket dimension at will. If I had my way, I'd implement large incentives to playing in open mode and lockout timers to prevent players from switching between the modes on a whim. Solo would still be there if you just want to enjoy your single player experience in comfort. But the community goals would all be in open mode and payouts would be better across the board in open mode. In EVE terms solo/private group modes would be Elite's high sec and open mode would be Elite's null sec.
>>
>>173210932
>But the community goals would all be in open mode and payouts would be better across the board in open mode.

The devs suggested this once and the amount of sheer frothing hatred from the dads made them withdraw the idea. They just need to close the forums or use it as a containment site that they don't interact with.

Sadly, I was there during that bullshit. I bought in during the open beta period because what I saw convinced me that the game has potential. I took a hiatus after the introduction of PowerPlay. I remember they kept trying to get the collaborative trade data tools banned because it was unfair compared to their array of post-it notes.

Sandro needs to die. Not be fired, but straight up die. Then every single idea that the Dads have ever shot down needs to be re-assessed. Fucking hell they don't make any sense.

Just look at multi-crew for example. Multi-crew is already dead on arrival and it's not even here yet. What effort has been placed into it was a waste. Maybe it'll be used a few times as a novelty, but players will stop because the system actively discencentivizes people from using it. With no telepresence, you need to drag your ship out to the meet your teammate. If you drag your ship out to meet your teammate, you should fight with your own ship instead of suffering the crippling income penalties. Fuck, even with the penalties, telepresence would have let it be have a niche use in granting an option for fucking around with friends when you didn't want to drag your own ship out to the fight. An option for explorers deep out in the black to spice things up with some combat alongside some commanders back in the bubble. But no. The Dads are a cancer and Sandro enables those fuckers.

EVE is absolutely a game, one of the better games out there IMO, its just not a space sim at all. It's an economics and geopolitical space rpg. EVE has produce some of the most extensive emergent gameplay and has given the players more control over the world than any other game. Think of it more as a massively multiplayer 4x Strategy Ship porn game where all the units are player too and it make a slot more sense.

The *mechanics* of combat and mining and what not are dull sure, but those mechanics are only the game for the pawns. EVE real game is its meta game, it's economics and its politics. And those are really second to none.

Obstruction of jump vector and destruction of ship components. Preventing someone from QD will be a question of skill and timing, not a toggle you turn on. You will have to disable them before they escape because this is a multiplayer game and the target of piracy has the same rights to fun gameplay and counterplay options as the pirate. Pirate and Freighter will be a contest and both sides will be able to win.

If you think that you will just be able to point a gun at someone flying a heavily armed and shielded ship full of valuable shit and just get what you want because you have toggled on your "no Jumping allowed" module you're in for a rude surprise. Every ship in the game is covered in guns and some of the most heavily armed thus far are the merchant vessels. Furthermore the pirates job is complicated by the fact that he wants to capture targets as intact as possible, you cannot sell cargo that you have exploded, perforated or scattered to the void. You have a vested interest in avoiding overkill, unlike the people you will be fighting.

Distortion is temporary and not complete, it drops shields drain capacitors disables systems, but then they come back. and you have that "coming back" period to either board, cripple or parlay for ransom, then its back to them shooting lethal weapons at you to kill you and escape and you shooting non lethal weapons at them to disable them and steal their shit.

I honestly think that the most valuble type of pirate will be the pilots and gunners who are accurate and knowledgeable enough to quickly snipe engines, shield gens, crewmen/turrets and thrusters without hitting reactors or cargo holds.

Physically crippled freighter = quick pay day
Exploded freighter = scavenger hunter for smaller pay day.
Escaped freighter = damage and ammo expended for no pay day.

>>

the lead devs themselves have said interdiction would be skill based and actively maintained. they specifically cited webbers and warp scramblers in EVE as things that would not exist.

More like I have that period to surgically remove your engines and turrets while they are useless and disabled, and you aren't moving.

You are NOT going to be able to fend off pirates in your hauler, and you've been told this many times.

actually no, I'm as likely to be a pirate as anything else. I just want to game out things as best I can early, and based on why CR and Tony and others have said piracy is going to hard. It's going to be a more an FPS contest and less an easy wank for established players the way it is in EVE. And if you win the contest you're gonna need space to carry off the loot.

Liking freighters means I like money m8, not that I don't like fighting. Freight will always be more reliable money and Im linking freighter because we're talking about raiding freighters. Am I suddenly not a carebear now becasue I post "muh pirate fighter" Which I own btw, though I wouldn't use it for piracy, too risky, dead pirates make money for surviving pirates but not for themselves.
>>
>>173220942
Just because they're not called webbers or scramblers doesn't mean that exact function won't exist in SC, daddyo

>Cripple
removing turrets and engines is part of crippling.

depends on what the pirates are flying, what Im flying, how many of them there are, how many friends I have nearby. If I'm flying a Hull B you're probably right. If I'm flying a StarG I will probably either jump or blast the pirate in front of me an jump long before those suckerpunches burn my shields down and start disabling important systems.

Also I think you're discounting something important here, solo merchants are vulnerable yes, and guards are expensive and cut into profits, along well travel routes people, merchants, will be gathering together to form convoys for mutual support without the need for dedicated escort.

You're cutlass might very well be able to crippled a Hull or a Freelancer solo and steal its loot, but what if theres four freelancers? Not even friends persay just a bunch of traders flying together to watch each others back on the trip, all going to the same place or near enough flying common legs. When you're suckerpunching one the others are gonna be shooting at you, and freelancers carry a lot of guns.

I think everyone vastly oversimplifies the Pirate/Merchant interaction.

Haulers are not looking to defeat, "fend off" destroy, loot, conquer or otherwise explode pirates. The Haulers wins by escaping, He has already made his money, it's in his hold, he just has to keep it.
>>
>>173221648
>You'll lose if I'm flying a smaller more manouverable ship with 3 friends and you're alone!!

I wasn't discounting that, I just didn't think you were retarded enough to think thats how I would operate.

Bigger score, bigger pirate party.

For Piracy, It has no cargo hold, making money will be a challenge that way. Its made of paper, and likely to be destroyed or crippled by incidental fire, a Dual S2 turret gun could actually badly damage a Bucc with a few hits. It has no ejector seat, I am less likely to survive the destruction of my ship than in other ships. It has agility going for it, but as we've seen lately agility is somewhat overrated in combat and only begins to matter when the agility gap is immense. A cutlass costs the same money, has more firepower, better shields, a somewhat thicker hull, a cargo hold and space for friends, If I go Pirating it will be in my cutlass, even If I'm alone my potential profit is higher and my risk is lower. Piracy is risky business and you will make money at it by mitigating those risks not exacerbating them by flying a paper mache fighter with a limited capacity to make money.
>>
>>173221648
If you can simply escape pirates by virtue of having a shield strong enough to ignore all the tools to stop a hauler, piracy would be non-viable and escorts would be pointless.

I think you're a little delusional if you think your Starfarer is going to be able to ignore a pirate gang proportional to the size of a starfarer.

You are the one who has been talking as though every merchant will be a lone bulk freighter with no friends or capacity to fight on its own. A solo operator will by flying a lancer or something similar, a ship with a capacity to fight back.

>You'll lose if I'm flying a smaller more manouverable ship with 3 friends and you're alone!!
You're putting words in my mouth, I said You'd lose If I'm flying a fatter slower heavily shielded ship and just run away. Becasue that is how the merchant wins an encounter with a pirate, he doesn't fight, he runs. If He escapes to safety he sells his cargo makes his money and goes on his way.

Everyone talks about piracy like the trader needs to kill the pirate. He doesn't more to that point killing the pirate is likely to start a vendetta that will get you tackled again later. Best to just rabbit, the merchant has nothing at all to gain by fighting. Unless he's a Q-ship specifically looking to bait out pirates.

Serious question here. I'm not over exaggerating, not trolling, and definitely not trying to make a joke.

Is it possible that FDev starts listening to the dads to the point of truly, seriously hurting the game?

They've ruined CQC, which could have been the best thing this game had.

They've made multi crew useless, and that could have made this an actual multiplayer game for once.

I feel like it's only a matter of time before they start adding in new things that COULD be fun, but then every time the dads pop in and say NO! Fun no good!

PS2 is generally absolute spawncamping garbage with no semblance of balance at all
>>
>>173231742
Thats just not true m8, It's very well balanced, its spawn camping garbage when you stay at a fight you cannot win anyway. If you're getting spawn camped, redeploy, pull armor from the next base down and try to break the seige or just leave and go to a balanced fight, thats the beauty of planetside. It's not one battle on a tiny map its dozens of battles on a fairly large island, with 3 other islands for when the first goes all to shit.
>>
>>173231742

>babby detected

The great thing about games that allow spawncamping and baseraping is that you are rewarded for being gud, shit on for being bad, and the feeling of satisfaction you get from turning a basecamping loss into a win is immense. Being killed ten times in a row by some dick in a helicopter or a jet isn't fun, but when you do finally blow them out of the sky it feels really fucking good.

It's why I loved Battlefield 2 so much, and why my brief stint in PS2 is the only thing that came close to it.

in ED maybe, but SC I'm not so sure. We know high ranking CIG people are on SA, and it's reasonable to assume that this board is lurked, if not participated in also. I only offer this as speculation after noticing language from a few CIG announcements mirroring discussions here.

I'm pretty sure the idea of a narrow focus schedule report was on this board about a week before that became a reality. The speculation before that was that the supposed report would cover the entire studio.

I would certainly never suggest that this boards carries any active influence, but the discussions here are way more on the pulse that any other place. It would be amazing to learn that they aren't here.

But senpai Ive played EVE like 5 times and never stuck with it more than a couple months. I don't have the patience to take it seriously and If you're not taking it seriously you're just so much food for pirates and orgs, just pawns on the chessboard, if even that.
>>
ATV when?

Oh boy, I sure can't wait to be disappointed again
>>
>>173237643
>this autofellatio that gets edited for every """hard""" game

EvE is basic babby shit in terms of gameplay. Only difficult/interesting thing that happens is generally outside of the game or tricking people, not actually playing it.
>>
Is it just me or is the Cobra 3 a massive pile of shit? Grinded 100 million in my Viper 3 then noticed the Cobra has a higher boost and better everything else but shields. So I got a Cobra for a change of pace and hate it.

All the NPCs shoot at me constantly even after a couple shots, shields are not even much worse than the Viper but they fail instantly. Hull armor is triple what my Viper was and I seam to take more damage and modal damage anyways.

Sure flys good though.
>>
>>173238767

For combat, the Cobra is worse that the Viper. It isn't nearly as maneuverable and zippy as the Viper. Better for pretty much everything else though, I use my Cobra to go mat hunting.
>>
>>173238767
Its the bigger silhouette, there's physically more of your ship to shoot at. While the stats may technically be better, the extra tankiness is worth nothing if you're getting shot.
>>
When does ATV usually come out?

I generally ignore it but this one has some hints at being pretty gud
>>
>>173239524
That makes a lot of sense. Never thought about them missing me all those times in the Viper. Was going to try a shield booster but I think ill just switch back until I get my last 7m for a Python.

>>173239512
Mines more maneuverable since I dumped a few million to upgrade it thinking i was going to have fun. Only time its not is during a boost.
>>
>>173238767
You're a giant pancake to shoot at if you present your flat side to the enemy.

>>173239512
Cobra3 out-turns the Viper, but the Viper has better lateral thruster authority and accelerates quicker.
>>
>>173239816
>When does ATV usually come out?
ATV doesn't have a properly scheduled release any more. It can be any time between 4 and 8 hours from now. At some point during that timeframe Lando the incompetent fuck will show up on Spectrum and announce that he's uploading the episode right now and has no idea how long it's gonna take to process. This has happened every week without fail in the current season of ATV.
>>
>>173239998
I was mostly having a problem being shot at from the front actually. They have been ripping me apart were the Viper rarely loses half its shields.

Put all my cobra stuff in a Viper 4 and this technically inferior ship is doing so much better.

It might be easier to ask why you want to play E:D, but okay

Open/Solo mode means you will barely see another human being

Engineers mean that the power creep is insane and you will never win an engagement with someone that has sunk the soul sucking time into grinding mats out

Making money is a nightmare and multiple supposed "playstyles" vary from boring to not really supported by the game to marginally fun but paying nothing

Travel times put me to sleep

Theres SO much wrong with it, and any kind of quality of life / PvP / Fun element to the game is hated by the devs.

It has some good things, but mostly its an exercise in boredom and asking yourself "why did they do this" out loud

That's actually the perfect audience for E:D. They haven't had a chance to have their expectations built up by decades of advancement in video games, so E:D will seem amazing to them, especially if they just want to explore space and look at cool stars and planets.

Space Engine is probably a safer bet. When people joke that Elite has no gameplay, it really means that Elite has no gameplay compared to what is expected from a modern video game. A non-gamer would be frustrated by Elite, for different reasons.

Drake quality is a feature.

anywhere where you'd want QOL features and ease of acess it's probably going to be a pain in the ass, because it's a cheap machine marketted to people who don't care.

also gameplay wise, why would you be making that walk more than twice an hour unless you're doing some kind of "solo SL1 gravelorded caterpillar operations" run of this game, which is a guild based MMO

you get some other dick whos not doing important things in the flight deck for the duration of the ship's operations to do it

These modular outposts make me moist. Turning them into a prefab parts kit and packing then into crates to haul off and setup somewhere will be relatively easy. >>
>>173263861
Yeah but Drake's shadiness being well hidden in game only would have made the community form it's own usage statistics. As long as that S&R vehicle was ideally kitted out for a piracy job, people would have noticed and used it organically instead of being told to, like how a jihadist makes a toyota a technical just because it happens to work for that. Also would have made for good salvage flavor to find the MISC style "normal ships company" communicating with criminals.

You're damn right it is

>>
>>173266098

>>
>>173265398
They've always said "eventually on desolate planets/moons" this atv did not mention any furthering of the in the near term, I'm just happy to see this approach being taken to the design so early, becasue It will be very easy to add deployment tools and game items for an existing kit of prefab modular parts. Turning them from "Modular outposts" into "Modular player outposts" will be relatively simple, Erin did in fact confirm that customizable player housing/construction is coming at some point, also player construction its always one of the most requested features in any MMO. On top of all that the leaps forward in procedural worlds means that SC will be uniquely suited to letting the players add stuff. Each moon will have space for tens of thousands of players, even if they're 1/6th scale or w/e thats still huge in a way that makes most minecraft worlds look utterly tiny.

The pieces have not been put together officially, but they're all there, right next to each other, the effort required has already been half done and the demand for such a thing is sky high. Top that off with player bases and player factions and player conflicts being a way to fill what will otherwise be largely barren worlds with a single action from CIG all but ensures it happens.

Players creating content as gameplay is the very easiest way to fill a world. The bases while active will be hubs of trade and conflict and once abandoned will be targets for scavengers, shelter for drifters and outcasts.

It's not confirmed but looking at the totality of the pictures we have I'd be baffled if it didn't happen. They could glue people to the game for years with just that. SC would suddenly be the best base building survival game ever made.

because it would already have all the rest of SC attached to it, Making construction and environments as good as Rust would be simple. The weapons, vehicles, dangers, challenges will already be there, because its part of SC. It would be better rust with Space ships, gunplay that doesnt suck, better networking, and attachment to a potentially massive economic system to make all the resource grinding actually ahve a point besides "raid the next guys base and steal all his resources so you can raid the next guys base and steal all his resources."

People got spoiled early on by the bubble canopies on some early ships like the Gladius, Avenger, and 300. Now if its not as good as those its shit. What those people fail to realize is that picking a ship is more than just stats and stuff like visibility is a choice you make along with weapons loadout and others. It's also a design language choice per manufacturer, some, companies, notable the more expensive ones, tend to give better views from curved windows Budgets tend to use flat panels jointed with struts, this is a tradeoff and its probably cheaper to make.

But people don't like tradeoffs they want everything to be the same.

1) What they've shown is procedural generation for all those "npc mission/quest" outpost you'll be asked to visit/raid.
2) It's more likely they'll generate specific outpost that players can steal and occupy.

Considering the amount of territory available, i doubt that'll be the case. I expect the conflicts to be more about locations, e.g. near major trade hubs or routes, near rich mining spots, that sort of thing.

Just so you know, rectangular strut canopy of WWII wasn't to be cheap and fast, we just didn't knew how to make canopy bubble until well into the war. Once we learned to that's the only things we did

Just keep in mind that SC is clearly aiming for the feeling of piloting X-wing/TIE/Falcon -like ship. You can't blame them for doing what a lot of us want them to do.
And yes we want it, if every game were built with PvP MOBA interface there would be no diversity at all because diversity is the enemy of balance.
>>
>>173269296
I understand what they're trying to do.

But putting a bar right in the center of your vision is not the way to do it. Nor is something like the Freelancer's cockpit.

Those are the ones people complain about the most. That and being unable to see most of your MFDs
>>
>>173267946
Fighting for control over existing locations is fine by me, I just want some kind of context for pvp that actually feels rewarding.
I don't give a shit about base-building or crafting, and wouldn't miss either if they were absent from the game.

It's not though. And ARMA movement is also fine.

Movement in every FPS is tailored to the style of gameplay devs set out to provide. There is no "proper FPS movement".

You mean, making newfags think that, everybody else see him do this shit several times over by now, and know exactly how it will play out. Just wait for the internal schedule, that is actually more or less reliable.
>>
>>173284490
>Just wait for the internal schedule, that is actually more or less reliable.

Yeah, remember Star Marine weekly status updates because they were "this close" to finishing?

Then it fucking evaporated?

Its not the point its happened before. Its the fact that this wasn't some delay or fuck up that has happened before. It was a straight godamn lie. It was IMPOSSIBLE for them to release 3.0 when they said they would, and Chris knew it.

It's irritating that you don't get that we all got what you are coming to terms with now, years ago. You are seriously preaching to the choir. However, that question about what he meant by "hopefully by the end of the year" still lingers for me as well. I want to believe he a much smaller version of 3.0 in mind, but they way the let time slide and don't acknowledge it or explain their delays is the most aggravating thing about this game.
