Do Kirin Bolts have enough white sharpness that you can drop RS for another damage skill? I've seen some people do it and others not, and I guess it depends on what you are fighting bur I'd like to hear some opinions on whether you should do this either in Gen or XX.

If we are talking about the best in XX then I would argue that Lagi DBs are, since you can make a set with:
-Thunder Atk +2
-Crit Element
-Crit Boost
-Weakness Exploit
-Critical Eye +3

which will have 100% affinity on weakspots along with the skills mentioned above. I was just wondering if the set is realistic because both Lagi and Kirin are similar in that they have long white, which could be capitalized on to gain more skills when other DBs cant afford to do the same

I can see where you are coming from, but Sharpness +X and Razor sharp can also be viewed as damage skills.
You want to be in purple sharpness as much as possible, and DBs are notorious for eating through their sharpness.
Without RS you'll be in white in no time.

No, but it's in the top three.
No. 1 is arguably Silverwind or Dreadking. No. 3 is Hellblade, but you rarely see people ever use Hellblade because there aren't many weapons that synergize with it, despite it being a decent enough set.

The formula I used is raw + (raw*affinity as a decimal * crit as a decimal)
320 + (320 * 0.2 * 0.4) = 345.6 raw (can't remember if the game rounds down or up)

This is why almost every single set in the game runs crit boost, it's a fundamental skill now.

I'm skipping out on some relevant information here, like the fact that Glavenus' throat is not a weakness exploiter applicable, and that the head+throat are not WE applicable when heated up, or that I'm ignoring TSU, or that Power Coatings have a much larger supply than Element Coatings, but still, you can see how massively it's skewed in the favour of Heaven's Mana.

Some mixture of poor ability to mix armour sets, poor alternative elemental options, poor coatings, unfortunate arrangement of monster weaknesses and a long list of other factors. Hopefully MHXX fixes things. For one, it looks like the Valfalk bow is a legitimate Dragon elemental pick that isn't hamstrung by awkward shot types or lack of coatings.

Depends on the monster.
Making a whole lot of assumptions here, but let's say that, on average, you're striking a 0.25 element hitzone and a 0.6 raw hitzone. You won't be, in reality it'll be more like 0.45 and 0.15 because what even are lelemental hitzones, but let's pretend that you have perfect aim and it's 0.6/0.25.
Next, we'll be super duper lazy and say that, on average, you've got a 0.1 motion value with the DB's.
That means that 10 points of raw gives approximately 0.6 bonus damage per hit. It also means that 10 points of element gives 2.5 damage per hit. These values are increased to 0.8~ and ~5.0 during Wolf's Maw.

DISCLAIMER: I'm not including a WHOLE HEAP of important factors here like affinity, sharpness, or generally ass elemental hitzones, but you get the idea.

I think you can reliably say that 20 raw is worth 10 element against most monsters. Sometimes it's more like 5 raw is worth 10 element, sometimes it's 40 raw is worth 10 element. You get the picture though, right?

Virtually every other elemental bow is complete trash. Even the best Thunder bow set up I can run vs Nargacuga is outclassed by Courage because Lv3 powershotting into Lv4 rapid is so much stronger than having to wait for the bow to reach Lv4 charge by itself.

Think of blast like an element.
The short and sweet answer is Raw. Once in a blue moon you'll stumble across a weapon that only loses like 10 or 20 raw and picks up a fuckhuge and amount of element, and it'll be stronger, but outside of that you follow the standard LS rules of Sharpness > Raw*Affinity > Element
