Did something happen in one of EUIV´s recent patches? I have uncolonized territorry in several spots in europe. Parts of Denmark, Norway and Sweden aren´t settled. Bohemia, Brandenburg, Pommerania and the Teutonic Order have also blank spots and Terra Incognita.

No, they will cease being under your trade companies and lose all bonuses accordingly. This will be handled so it does not lose you the trade in the next patch, I think.
If the provinces in question are not part of your trade companies, then yea go for it.

Until you get 10 provinces per colony.

You get a (((free merchant))) and your colonial nation's income should be high enough to colonize themselves.

Look at the trade map and in which directions it can flow. If one of those points towards you, of course it is worth it.

Honestly it sounds like you aren't the kind of person who would enjoy grand strategy. It makes sense to me that a lot of people would feel l like these games are repetitive and boring, and like "the goal is always the same," but I think you should know that there are a lot of people who engage with it in a different way.

I'm not articulating very well what that is like, but it's kind of like the distinction among Rollercoaster Tycoon players between people who play to complete the scenarios and people who ignore the scenario requirements.

The trick is to not play Ireland. People who recommend it as "nooby" island are wrong.

Check the wiki on the different CB's and how to get them but fabricating a claim is very straight forward. Just get a high skill guy working on it and it shouldn't be to difficult.

Until then, relying on claims either through inheritance and forging them is your only way to expansion- alternatively, you could make a bunch of tributaries to you and just build your power up until wars are easy as fuck

Looks like you can make the duchy of connacht right now, if not soon. When you do, try inviting claimants of rival counties to your court and pressing their claims. It's still difficult to maneuver into doing that, but easier if you have free lands to give away. When they're under you, you can manipulate them however you want to get that land back into your personal demesne.

You're still in a shit tribal position anyway, so expanding is gonna be painful for a while. remember to land claimants before declaring war on their behalf.

You're not a merchant republic and a merchant republic has trade power in the trade node.

Merchant Republics give +% Goods produced based on their % of trade power in the trade node, so if you increase you trade power you produce less goods produced.

So by building a market you decrease your production income slightly, and everyones trade income potential slightly.

Or something else happened in the same month that wasn't related to you building a market.

How do you use an airforce in Darkest Hour? By which I mean what air units are best used for what kinds of operations? Between all the various types of bombers I just don't know. And what's better for bombing missions, a squadron of just bombers or a mixed bomber(what type?)/fighter(interceptor or multirole?) squadron?

Interceptors is the best for intercepting fighters and bombers with their shorter range, heavier armour and bigger guns. Defensive role.

Fighters are good at air superiority, controlling the skies and fighting against interceptors. Offensive role.

Close Air Support is good for destroying manpower in the enemy's land divisions. Good at Ground Attack missions, war of attrition.

Strategic Bombers are good for destroying the enemy's industry. Supply problems and a lack of industrial power to build new units ensue.

Tactical bombers are the mix between CAS and STR bombers, and can do both jobs at a mediocre level. Good at Ground Support missions at disrupting the enemy's land division organization.

Naval Bombers are specialized at flying off the coast and attacking nearby fleets. They are deadly and can seriously injure ships, which will require months of repair.

Transport Planes are used for two main missions; transport for dropping Airborne divisions and resupplying encircled divisions.

Missiles are the unique unit. They are one-time use pieces that can seriously destroy industry in the targeted province. Stack ten or so in a air corp and attack London, and London's IC is struck down by 15 IC. Cannot be intercepted by enemy aircraft, and usually take a short time to build.

Other mods, such as All In One, add new air unites like Light Fighters, Stealth Bombers and Air Cav, but that's non-vanilla.
