Yeah, the moments at the end were great. I know the little prequel novel, Aguni, wasn't all too liked but I thought it had some neat things going for it. Like the split screen texts and the ending.

The reception of Myth compared to its 80 average rating on EGS vs it's somewhat low rating on VNDB confuses me. There are some huge reviews of it on EGS. I found one review of Myth where the dude complains about it having no voices, when it actually has a few voiced scenes implying he never actually finished it.

Some things that weren't effective were like Odin's weird face she makes during one scene using real lips in eye. Just looked silly The cult stuff also wasn't explored enough.

Its extremely annoying to fit all the info you want without turning it into a fucking infodump pile of garbage, or going on and on about the same shit. Flip-side, if you go too fast your story just becomes a flat piece of shit and bombs anyways.

I'd be willing to bet a good portion of writers are hikkikomori's at best and haven't had any experience in acting, so it ends up a disaster in the end for the same reason why most H-scenes suck.

I think they are all in the answer arcs if I remember correctly. But as for the score I am not sure if I can concretely say the game is that good (80 average) as it is heavily flawed. It isn't bad and I enjoyed the ride but I wasn't a fan of the way it tried to deliver the message of the game which just basically mounted up to be don't desecrate graves/memorials.
The concept was good, but the execution was spoiled by the weak answer arcs.

4 had very interesting fights and reveals, the climax of Battler vs Beatrice was the high point of the first four arcs. Most of the 98 and Maria scenes were awful, but the rest made up for it. 3 was better though.

5 has a lot of problems, which mostly stem from how the series swayed away from normal story telling. I really hated how what happens on the island became less and less the focus. The fights with Erika and Dlanor were very good (although the explanation for everyone's alibis was way too long and unnecessary), but it still left a bad taste in my mouth with how meta it became.

Higurashi's narrower scope really helped with its characters. The story only became bigger once most of the smaller stuff was resolved. I think Umineko really failed in this regard, and made a lot of characters really feel like a number more than anything.

I've been reading VNs for 5(maybe 6?) years and I can tell you that a LOT of the content is not worth playing.

Sure, some well known VNs are great and a couple of untranslated nukige are a blast to fap to, but for the most part, people just stick with a couple of VNs that are well regarded because, let's be honest, the famous ones are for the most part the best the genre has to offer (When They Cry, S;G, MLA, Zero Escape/AA/Danganronpa, Kamidori/Rance Series...you name it). There are only a couple of things that are left untranslated that people agree are amazing, but that hasn't move that much in a while. The "kamige" that were revered from 2011-2012 are still pretty much the same titles and we're now in 2017 (Eustia, Muramasa, Oretsuba...).

I'm thankful that we're finally getting some of the supposed best work, but I wonder if discussion would stagnate when those are released.

Definitely read it. The anime is badly animated and skips a lot of what makes the VN good, focusing more on the gore and horror. It even had to create a new arc on the second season to introduce information that was skipped over on the past arcs.

The anime isn't bad by itself, it's one of the most decent VN adaptations, but I'd only recommend it if you didn't like VNs as a medium. Even then, I'd say the manga is much better.

If you read the VN, you should search for the patches to fix it, especially the music, as the official MangaGamer version changed the music for less memorable tracks.

However, I don't know if I could ever recommend most of it besides the high rated stuff (not just from my list, I mean in general). I'm an avid reader (both in my mother tongue and in English) so reading doesn't bother me, and I can find good little things in apparently "bad" works, but they're just mostly a thing to pass the time.

What I mean is that, aside from the obvious good stuff, there isn't really anything that will "blow you away" (well, maybe some disturbing shit like Maggot Baits or that VN I read where a guy pulls a girl's intestines out her asshole while fucking, but that's besides the point) so that's what I mean by "worth it" (Like, from 1-3 is "why did I even read this?", from 4-5 is "welp, I guess this wasn't that bad/kinda enjoyable" from 6-7 is "hey, not bad/that was actually good" and from 8-10 "I really had a great time, totally worth the 20-30 hours, what a blast!").

This is what happens when few titles are translated and the quality of translations varies so much. The fact that it may be a lot of people's first VN of its kind also affects its popularity.
