You can actually wage a civil war to revoke all of your Dukes and Counts' titles, then you can easily game the system and centralize. Funny thing is only Dukes and Counts can plot against you, you can have a giant amount of Mayors and they won't do shit. Be prepared for micromanagement though, also succession will be a bitch.

I've always seen Rome as more of a title of power to claim than an actual nation, considering how much the concept behind it has changed. Its had Emperors that prosecuted Christianity, only for it to end up being the state religion and one of the symbols behind Rome. There were many cultures that claimed the title after the original Latins. Greeks, Germans, Russians, Italians and even Bulgarians and Serbs briefly.

As for Byzantium, I can agree that it's the legitimate continuation of the Roman government (though one can question the very legitimacy of that, considering at various points if you had an army you could walk into Rome and call yourself the new Emperor) but its overall a very different entity from the original empire. Its like if the UK conquered Spain and moved its capital there after the British Isles get conquered by say, Ireland. It'd be legally the UK government, but I wouldn't say it'd be the British nation.

The other problem is the whole culture thing. Its either all one culture or all another, which doesn't make sense. Big multicultural empires usually put a ruling caste of their own people in charge meanwhile locals kept their own customs. This isn't represented at all in the game. I like to imagine its like CK2 where only the ruling classes are accounted for since its feudal times and shit, but it isn't shown in the game so it ironically comes off as if you're literally genociding people.

R8 laddos. Suadis and persia are my client state, with russia under a PU since 1800. Forming GROSSROMANIUMS as byzatines seems pretty hard due to the shitty start, but a better player can definitely pull it off. Byzantinian Crimea looks semi-shit in hindsight, but to be fair it does have accepted culture(gothic and pontic). Converting this save to liquoria for some comfy industrialisation, and hopefully not losing to much empire. Can anyone give tips for playing a big multinational empire with low literacy?
