This thread is for the discussion of homebrew and related topics, such as game mods and reverse engineering, as well as to help each other out. Please, refrain from replying to bait, spreading misinformation and other harmful, uncalled for, behaviours.
Considering some of the most recent events, there's a need to remind the newcomers what the general is NOT about.
If you want to uselessly argue about your preferences or personal opinions in a way that doesn't benefit the thread (saying something is better but not giving any reason as to why it would be), spreading misinformation or "trolling", please make sure you head over to the appropriate thread or board, as this isn't the right place for that.
That kind of posts is extremely discouraged in this thread. Ignore and report these posts whenever you see them to prevent ruining the general.
If you want a valid and unbiased comparison on the various CFW available for the 3DS, check the page in the Wiki linked above. For anything else, don't forget to check all of the resourced in the OP, the long post at the top of each thread. If you can't find what you're looking for, feel free to ask! We won't hesitate to help you out as long as you're not disrespectful. /hbg/ can be slightly condescending to hypocrites, so you're invited to avoid such behaviour.
This is simply just an advice, as it is everyone's duty to collaborate to keep the thread clean from the threats you just read about. We've managed to avert this kind of problems for an entire year, and this shows the high quality of our general. I'm sure we can overcome this wicked and dishonoring regression that is hitting us hard.

I have successfully downgraded, installed emunand, and unlinked the nands, and put some homebrew shortcuts on my main menu. Which of these files can i delete?

I accidentally deleted some information from my sysNAND while double-backing up my SD card. Nothing entirely important; just title information for my games. I'd like to recover the saves if possible, and I feel that they are most likely backed up in the "NAND.bin" file in my emuNAND9 folder.

Is there a way to dump or extract the information from the "NAND.bin" file that I can then use to replace the deleted information?

So I've had some trouble. I'm using this guide, and I'm at 4a step 14, but I can't seem to get rxTools to launch no matter what. Is there anything I might have missed that would get it to work? I did all of the previous steps.

Anyone that fully installed Fire Emblem and the DLC, you basically install FE:IF (Translated Patched) > DLC + Inv Kingdom (Translated Patched) and then the online service in that order right? Don't want to fuck anything up to reinstall later down the line

The names of badges have to be formatted like so:
(Badge name).(badge id).png

The Badge Name is what will appear on your home menu when you hover over it.
The Badge ID can be anything. For sake of a simple explanation, it allows you to have similarly named badges, and is required to avoid being deleted by Badge Arcade.
This badge ID can also be shared with a system application. You can find a list here, but it's theoretically possible to add more through Homebrew.

You want to be holding L as rxTools boots up, just as if you were to activate Menuhax. If you have rxTools set to auto-boot, then just hold L and let it count down.

I'm not sure whether NAND.bin carries the contents of your SD card or not. EmuNAND9 should be capable of overwriting either NAND though. I've never had to do it, so not sure whether the file should go on your root or into an EmuNAND9 folder.

Well so did you 'Enable autoboot' under Configuration? Because that makes it so you don't have to look at Cakes' options during boot, but to check them again, simply hold L after Homebrew Launcher begins flashing, but before Cakes has a chance to boot.

Guys, I fucked up my microSD card while moving cia files to it. Now I can't move files to or from the thing without it unmounting itself around 25% through and giving me the "scan and fix" window when it comes back (which does nothing, by the way). Luckily I have a backup of all the files on it from when I successfully installed all the cfw stuff.

Is the best solution to format the card and wipe it clean, then simply paste the files back onto it? Or is there something more I have to do to it? N3dsxl model, if that helps.

I had things running fine but I was annoyed at having to fucking unwrap all my games everytime i went into emuNAND, so i unlinked them.

You can move your NAND.bin and emuNAND.bin, plus any already installed CIA files off of your SD card. You only need to make redundant backups of you NANDs in case you need them. Hope that helps.

You can try with 20, but it might force you to reset your badge data. If not, report back!

You can still keep winning official badges, but they just won't automatically be added to your collection on the Home Menu.
If you want to switch them in, talk to the Bunny at the Settings Desk and ask him to reset your badge data.
Afterwards, run GTYB to dump the new badges to your SD card. It'll eventually crash since you'd have more than 1000 badges in it's folder, so take your SD card out and select the badges you want to keep on you computer.

Once you've selected 1000 you'd like to keep, add them again using GTYB.
First, reset your badge data inside GTYB; hold X+Y+L+R on boot and it'll delete the badge data created by the Arcade.
Then you can safely add your custom badges again.

How are you generating the CXI? Your best bet is to download a legit cia RF version of AS as a cia, run it through Decrypt9's deep decryption then extract it with Asia's HackPack using the cia commandline option. Then you can run it through pk3DS to randomize, use the HackPack 3dsb option to rebuild to to .3ds then Simple CIA Converter to convert it back to cia.
