If you know the firmware your system has, then you have access to the plaintext and ciphertext version of that particular firmware.
So you can compare the two and generate a xorpad that gets from one to the other.
I think it'll only work for replacing the NATIVE_FIRM though. That's the important bit, that's a partial downgrade and you can do the rest from there.

It's in any of the downloads on Gateway's website. You need to install it to sysnand. If you're using FBI, make sure you're installing to NAND also.

What's the best way to transfer all the save data off my carts and into the installed versions?

Also, unrelated, but how come every time I boot up NTR, then launch a game, my console hangs on the Nintendo 3DS screen if I try to boot a different game afterwards? Like, I boot Fire Emblem for example, everything is fine, then if I try to boot Theaterhythm, it hangs on that screen.

It's the whole "xorpad" thing combined with known-plaintext that makes it possible in the first place. If you already know exactly what the decrypted content is in a given position, you can calculate a xorpad from that. Let's say that it's protocol for me to always say "Hello" and we encrypt all messages with the same key 12345. I send you "Igopt", and because "Hello" is always the first message the attacker can simply subtract "Hello" from it and end up with the key 12345.

I then send you "Tgfvy", and the attacker knows we're using the same key because incompetence. They subtract 12345 from it and end up with "Secrt". They win.

In this case, you end up taking your 3DS-unique encrypted copy. You "subtract" a decrypted copy of the 10.4 firmware from another 3DS. That gives you just the xorpad for your firmware partition, and you can just take a decrypted 10.2 copy from another 3DS, add your xorpad to it and you have an encrypted 10.2 copy for your 3DS. Put that back in and you can fuck with memchunkhax2 all you want.

The only thing stopping you from downgrading further is that the home menu's "required version" field increases over time, and the home menu installation is actually validated properly (with a console-unique AESMAC). It's also in an unknown position of your ~700MB CTRNAND filesystem, you wouldn't even know where it is in there and being off by one byte would fuck everything up. But they forgot to make this patch into a full firmware version so the 10.5 home menu's totally okay with running on 10.2 firmware (or even 9.6 firmware). No version check on minor revision numbers.

Also no, this wouldn't have worked if Nintendo knew what they were doing. This is basically a Cryptography 101 thing.

Okay so I installed emunand, unlinked nands and installed crboot.

The thing is, I'm using Reinand CFW but when I boot into emunand and go to the system settings I don't see the Rei tag in the system version. It just says ver 9.2. I have FBI on emunand but I can't see it when I boot into sysnand. I'm not sure what's going on.

Well I'm not sure how simple backing up is but I'm just copying everything from my sd card onto my computer before I update, if it fucks up mt emu9, do I just put that shit back on? If not what do I need to do?

The purpose of that is to back up all of your files on the SD card and the NAND thing is to backup your sysNAND incase you fuck up and need to restore it.

You simply make a folder called backup, dump everything on your SD card into it, and then make a separate folder for all of your files and another one called "NAND," then put the NAND.bin in there because you won't need it on your SD card after the format due to it just being for backup purposes if your sysNAND breaks during the formatting process.
