Reposting because I'm sick of this bullshit.

At step 18 of part C of the literally retarded guide, I am told to boot rxTools.

It "installs" (whatever that means, it's all on the SD card already), and then says press any button to continue. I press any button, the screen flashes a bit (no colours) and the 3DS reboots.

Then, when I try to run rxTools after it's rebooted, the bottom screen freezes red forever. I could try this a million times and it will always happen. This is the second time I've restarted the process, too. What the FUCK is wrong with it? I've followed the guide to the letter.

Is there a Bane menuhax loading screen?

I know it sounds retarded, but you might try uninstalling the data and installing using BBM. Sometimes using a different installer is the solution. You just want to make sure to uninstall, exit the app, then install again. Or you can uninstall the data with System Settings, but you might lose your save file if you already had one.

If I have badges on a 10.3 3DS and then do the whole downgrade + cfw installation process, do I lose the badges?

I'm asking because I already did it for a friend and I'm not sure how badges work. Also everything got tossed out of its folder and the folders deleted so he's already probably gonna be mad.

Okay so heres a situation, I installed CFW (Rxtools) on 4 of my 3DS.

On one of them (N3DSXL) I felt like I knew what I was doing, but I skipped a step on it. I copied sysnand over to emunand without having FBI installed on it, thusly making it a useless emunand with no way to install cias, and then i formatted my sysnand.

I fixed my situation by setting up my sysnand all over again with homebrew, and this time with FBI installed. and cloned it over again. And got it working perfectly fine.
But then I realized this 3DS no longer has the friend code or the saves it used to have.

Is there anyway I can restore from a nand backup to emunand and then install FBI to it? Or even simply having my save files work with the emunand currently in there?

Question about the star sapphire and rutile ruby editions. So I tried to install both sapphire roms (star and sinking) but it tells me it's already installed. I'm assuming this is because the DS sees it as the same game. Is there a workaround do this or is there a way to just pick and choose which one to play when I feel like it.

Homebrew as in applications that run in userland. No piracy involved.

No one seems to know the cause of the softbricking, so whether it happens to you or not is indeed just the luck of the draw. When you're softbricked, you have to boot into recovery mode and update to the latest firmware. That's why it's strongly recommended to downgrade now while 10.4 isn't out yet, since you can just retry if you softbrick.

You are correct, one save file/etc for every hack of the same game and even the vanilla game, you can only play one of each (Sapphire or Ruby).

Star/Rutile are the best if you want a challenge, Drayano's hack isn't as in-depth as his gen 4/5 ones due to rom hacking limitations, and this one in particular is really easy due to gen 6 being streamlined in general.
I only recommend Rising/Sinking if you want a 720 hack, for a real challenge Star/Rutile is the way to go, they actually manage to make a challenging as fuck game out of the trainwreck that is ORAS.

Ah alright I was thinking it somehow booted directly into Homebremenu. It doesn't bother me much either since I only ever use menuhax for Pokemon injecting but would've been neat. Hold Y while loading hblauncher_loader and it'll create a file that starts with like "hblauncher_loader_payload" in root. You can open that with an editor (one that doesn't shit itself since it's a binary, preferably) and replace all references to "boot.3dsx" with "brew.3dsx" or whatever else of the same length, then rename your HBL 3dsx to that.

5) Go to the CIA folder and install the "hb_launcehr loader.cia"
6) Once it has finished, press home and then X to close fbi/BigBlueMenu
7) You will get a gift, it will be the Homebrew Launcher Loader
8) Open the Homebrew Launcher Loader and hold Y
9) If you've followed this guide, it will load into CTRBootManager, to fix this, turn off the 3DS and put the SD card into your PC
10) You will now see a file names "hblauncherloader_otherapp_payload_OLD-10-3-0-28-EUR" or something similar

doing these steps again, i hold Y after opening the shortcut and it launches to CTRbootmanager but then when I put the SD card in to change it there is no file labelled hblauncherloader_otherapp_payload_OLD-10-3-0-28- or anything.

The payloads go the root of your SD card's main partition. Not in SysNAND or EmuNAND. You're also supposed to edit hblauncher_loader's payload, not menuhax. That payload isn't used by anything other than hblauncer_loader.

I have the shitty 4GB SD card that came with my XL. I want to buy a new bigger one but before I do:

I've seen one "complete guide" mention it being unstable and just using emuRAND, but I'm hearing others use it. Not sure what it does though...

Just educated myself on Decrypt9. Updated the Pastebin with new FAQs related to it (restoring sysNAND, injecting FBI to H&S), also just updated the Cakepacks to have the new NTR in the cia folder and Decrypt9 in /3ds.

It saves a firmware_patched.bin to your SD card, which you can upload for mid-kid to look at when diagnosing issues.

I'm trying to download some dlc for fire emblem fates so I can unlock the third path and all the various dlc

however I am a little lost on how to do this since the guides are a bit vague when it comes to dlc files.

you need to run the japanese language emulation plugin from BootNTR and make sure the .plg is in the right folder that matches the title id of the game under /plugins/[titleid]
if it flashes green when loading the game and it's saying it's reading downloaded map data that should mean it's working although i suppose it'll be proven to be working when the third path is selectable in the game and the DLC maps show up at the Dragon's Gate

nevermind figured it out. the agb firm signature patch has to be applied on sysnand and emunand and to install onto sysnand, fbi has to be injected to h&s on sysnand from rxtools 2.6 boot menu then the games have to be installed to sysnand from devmode on rxtools 3.0+. agbfirmpatches go to NAND in FBI and GBA vc games go to SD in FBI. then all that is left is going into emunand and installing to emuNAND with FBI. the actual GBA games boot in the 3ds's special AGB _FIRM mode so they can be run at full speed.

from the homebrew starter kit there's an oot3dhax_installer that will write to a save file and from there it'll work in any 3DS for booting *hax

just keep in mind you have to re-set it up for a different firmware or model type (new/old) so it's not quite as useful as Cubic Ninja unless you always have a homebrew 3DS on you already

also make sure to backup your real save first as you need to clear the saves to set it up

Not entirely sure, but consider that an sd card reader would be almost entirely useless if it didn't let you put files in your SD. I would think at this point in time there's at least a tool you could use for that purpose.

If yours was jailbroken I think you could achieve something like that easier, since I remember transferring roms and stuff to an ipod touch 2 way too long ago to remember. But if you did that I suppose you would already have found a way to do this.

So be sure that if you buy one of these SD card readers, you check how they work beforehand. I just doubt they'd be read-only.

BTW another issue you might have is that when you download games from MEGA they might be compressed in .zip or .rar files, and you would need an app for that as well.

It's such a shame that a company like Apple, after all these years have actively tried to give less and less options to their users to the point even their most expensive devices (like the iPad pro) are mere toys.
