Any downsides if I just install menuhax if I want to pirate a few games and DLCs? I dont want to risk my N3DS and still plan to buy a few games, so having less games to pirate isnt THAT bad for me. I tried following the retard guide in the OP and my 3DS has been stuck on this screen for 10 minutes now. Note that nothing installed, it just froze on the corrupted text. I've tried hitting Y, B etc. but nothing happens. Is it safe to reboot the system?

WHy not just use PASTA ninjax built temporarily install FBI to your sysnand, why not throw bigbluemenu there as well, setup your emunand witn emunand9 and be done without tedious fucking shitty injection mehtod.

Just in case you wanna listen to me anons: After you are done downgrading and BEFORE you go setting up rxtools or anything else; Do these steps:
Download FBI, set up both 3DSX and dump CIA somewhere in your SD card too, root I guess. Also get this http://www.jheberg.net/captcha/pastacfw-for-ninjhax2-90-92/ and dump that to 3DS folder in right manner.

Once you downgraded to 9.2 run any HAX payload other than menuhax (one you can boot into again from main menu without powering off your console)

First run pastaCFW. Then go back to your *hax and run FBI, install FBI cia, and viola. Reboot your system and pay attention to your titles on your main screen, if you see one more box appear and then disappear immediately, this means your cia installed to your sysnand right, from this point proceed into making an emunand and you will have FBI in your emunand, no need to inject no nothing. Like said, you could also throw bigblue menu with FBI CIA and have both in your emunand straight away.

Or TL:DR:
Download FBI both HAX and CIA, download pasta CFW thing, dump all of them in your card, run pasta, run, FBI, install FBI CIA to sysnand, make emunand, has FBI now.

RxTools injection IS shit, but the Decrypt9 Injection method is actually better than the Pasta>FBI method if you've already unlinked NANDs, because otherwise you have to flash a NAND.bin backup back into sysnand and format EmuNAND all over again.

Alright guys, I need some help. I'm still new to this so bear with me. I have a 10.3 N3DS, and I tried to instantly homebrew. It worked perfectly fine, and I tried to install FBI.cia and Pastacfw but they didn't work. I rebooted my 3DS and tried again. After scanning the QR code and launching, the bottom screen turns yellow, them grey, then it crashes to the home screen. I thought, hey I'll just restart this and try again. I deleted all the files on the microsd, put it back into my 3DS expecting to get the Nintendo 3DS folder, but all of the older homebrew files are in there and it won't boot. Everytime I delete the filesoff the microsd and reinsert it into my 3DS the files just reappear. I've also tried formatting my 3DS but it doesnt work. Anything guys? Halp.

Anyway, managed to get my downgraded N3DS (10.3 to 9.2 U) back and that poster was right.

Mine is
0004001B00010802 version 0x400
0004009B00010402 version 0x1402
(Matches the version another poster who downgraded reported in the thread)

Apparently, the 9.2 N3DS update files doesn't have those titles as all N3DSes have already have them preinstalled and they were not touched in 9.2. O3DS has those in their 9.2 update files since they were updated in an earlier firmware that's before N3DS (6.3 and 7.0) and the files are cumulative from all previous updates.

However, they were later updated in 9.5 and 9.6 respectively. Since the N3DS update files doesn't include preinstalled titles, EVERYONE who downgraded on N3DS to 9.2 still have those two titles stuck on their updated versions.

I'm not sure of the effects of leaving them updated, but anyone who wants to do a proper complete downgrade apparently need to get 0004001B00010802.cia and 0004009B00010402.cia from the O3DS 9.2 files (they're universal for all 3DSes and regions according to the guy in the thread ) and re-downgrade using SysUpdater in Pasta. (in theory though, haven't tried it yet since haven't set up miniPasta)

WARNING: DO NOT USE THE TWL_NAND CIAS INCLUDED HERE ON AN N3DS! THE N3DS HAS A SEPARATE VERSION OF TWL_FIRM AND IS INCOMPATIBLE WITH THESE. They likely won't brick your device (I'm not checking to see) but it won't be able to play any DS carts until you restore the proper N3DS TWL_FIRM. Only use the "DS Cart Whitelist" files on the N3DS. It should be enough to enable the blue card (but you can forget about Acekard 2i on the N3DS for now). Also, this involves modifying files on SysNAND. Make a NAND dump first, just in case something goes wrong. And be extra careful when deleting files (check the title ID at least twice).

Not to knock Flash Card Time Warp, it was a nice trick back when the only file manager available was BBM/DevMenu, which didn't give you full system access. Now that we have homebrew file manager FBI, it is possible to delete and replace system files with older versions. This makes a far more complete old DS cart enable trick possible. This one WILL work with the Acekard 2i.

First, to use these, you will need FBI Installer (BBM can't delete the current system titles so you can install the old ones). Grab it here.

Next, you will need the old versions of "DS Cart Whitelist" and "TWL_FIRM" in CIA format. Grab those here https://mega.co.nz/#!g5oF0DbR!6tvfLNqle9nS2UcQTFN4u1YOr6KiVVShkwwG-vQEWOY . (UPDATE: Whitelist "v0" added, wasn't listed, so I didn't know it was there, still don't know what FW it is).

Now, you will see two folders. "Backups Of Original Files" and "Downgrades To Enable DS Carts". I would copy both to your CIA folder on the SD card just to make sure you'll have them if you need them. Actually, between the two, they contain every version of "DS Cart Whitelist" and "TWL_FIRM" (unless 9.6 updated them, which is unlikely).

Now, with the CIAs on the SD card (preferably in a folder with a practical name like "CIA"):

1. Open FBI on SysNAND (Ninjhax, PBT, GW mode with no EmuNAND installed or EmuNAND disabled).
2. Tap R twice to enter "Title Delete" mode, and L once to enter NAND mode
3. Look for and delete the title 0004800F484E4841 (Nintendo DS Cart Whitelist), this will be one of the many "(N/A)" listings, so, step through them slowly (to delete, tap A twice then hit start).
4. (ONLY ON OLD 3DS) Look for and delete the title 0004013800000102 (TWL_NAND), this is much easier to find because it's going to be one of the CTR-P-CTAP listings
5. Tap R to return to "Install CIA" mode.
6. Enter your CIA folder and go into the "Downgrades To Enable DS Carts" folder
7. Select the highest "DS Cart Whitelist" that precedes the FW that banned your DS cart (try the 0 one, it's the oldest, but if it fails, try the closest thing to the last working version), and install (tap A twice, hit start)
8. (ONLY ON OLD 3DS) Select the highest "TWL_FIRM" that precedes the FW that banned your DS cart (if in doubt. 4.0.0-7 is probably also a good choice here if you're uncertain).
9. Restart your 3DS. Insert your old DS flash cart. If it works now, congratulations.

Yes, in keeping with tradition, I included the joke from the South Park "Underpants Gnomes" episode for the last two steps . Keep in mind you may have to play with the versions to get a working combination. Before I found out about v0 of the whitelist, I actually broke DSTwo compatibility trying to use the oldest one listed, because that's what several people recommended. Going to a 4.x version fixed it. Though now v0 also fixes it. Anyway, don't assume that just because it's the oldest, it's the best choice. That may or may not be the case, depending on your card. Since you don't have to delete to update a file though, it's probably best to start with 0, and then slowly work your way up if it doesn't work.

Oh and, if you're on 4.x and didn't already have a DS cart that works with your 3DS, don't forget to put "rop_multiloader.nds" and "rxinstaller.nds" on the microSD card so you can switch ROPs offline and without removing the SD card.

What the fuck, I try to downgrade my n3DS, so I installed the homebrew launcher, threw the update folder and CIA files onto the root, put sysupdate into the 3ds folder and every single fucking time I launche sysupdate I get a "Failed to get CIA file info!" error. I also cant see any steps at the top like there should be. Any idea? I followed this:

Guys I need some help, when I boot my n3ds and press A I get into the home menu, 9.2 and no CFW (I'm trying to set reinand up). And then when I boot and don't press any button, ctrbootmanager shows up and tells me it didn't find any boot.cfg even though I do have one on my sdcard. The downgrade is more or less trial and error until it decides to work. The instructions for cfw after that should work as intended granted you are using the correct files and methods for your system.

Well, GW is great for ease of use. It's the most simple shit to set up and you'll be playing games in minutes thanks to the drag and drop nature. The spoofing is the best of all CFWs, so no need for crytofixing or worrying about regions. Plus you get two SD cards to store stuff on. And there's cheats if you like that shit.

Sky3DS is literally obsolete though.

Then there's CFW if you like your shit for free with some minor extra hassle.
