Sky3DS users that have been banned via public headers can use everything but online in games (you can still use eShop/Miiverse/etc) and the ban usually expires after a few weeks.

If they're region free, no it doesn't matter. If it's from a different region than your 3ds and you don't have rxTools, you're gonna need something called NTR for Cakes to be able to read it. Other than that you're fine.

Legit .cias have the lowest chance of getting you banned, though I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually do a cleanup pass or something (they know which consoles should have legit cias).

This does come with the caveat that any new measures introduced by Nintendo in the future can probably be bypassed by CFW users but not by you unless you stay on 10.3 forever.

Very much depends on how they ban you.

It's likely it'd just be an NNID ban, so formatting 3ds and any associated WiiU's would likely work.

That said, we don't know entirely what they're capable of, so its entirely possible they could ban the system entirely - its just extremely unlikely.

But that's all hypothetical, as absolutely no one has been banned yet. And unless Nintendo keeps a record of which NNID has purchased which game (which doesn't seem to be the case as they record purchasing data on the console itself), its very unlikely they'll even be able to ban people for installing CIA's.

I'm in the middle of trying to fix the eShop error code 022-2634.

I'm following a list of steps, and I'm at the point where it says to "10) Put the SD card into your 3DS and turn on into emuNand (hold L, select rxTools)" after cut/pasting the emuNAND folder with the name that's just a string of characters.

When I start up my 3DS and hold L, nothing happens, I just boot sysNAND and my 3DS tries to create home menu information.

What am I doing wrong?

They do, actually. Even in the old pre-NNID system, your system had an invisible "eShop account" linked to it with Nintendo having full purchase history. When you set up or log in to an NNID, the eShop account is merged into your NNID account and removed. The eShop account was otherwise just about the only thing that survived a system format.

Banned Sky3DS and huehuebrbrbr doing credit card fraud have also long reported full console bans that you can't get around by a format (but to different sections of the system, CC fraud is a full everything digital ban), while I've seen absolutely no people with banned NNIDs ever.

Yep. They definitely have the ability to remote-unlink an NNID and uninstall all related games too. I don't know how far that goes, but if you were to call them up and report your system as missing/etc, you'll lose a lot of shit the next time you connect the system to the internet.

They have a ton of avenues for detecting CFW users. Friends list info for one, activity log info for another, the eShop also seems to synchronize both ways, they know which digital games you've actually bought as well as the ones you're actually playing online, etc. The question is whether they'll do it.

RxTools is the oldest one and most used, but it wasn't designed with n3ds in mind. They released patches very quickly to get it to work on n3ds, and are still looking to push out more patches.

Cake is designed with n3ds in mind, and it works fine, but a lot of people have a lot of functionality complaints about it.

Rei works and was built with n3ds in mind. It can go up to 10.3, which the others cannot. It's the newest though, so you really are doing it at your own risk. You're basically beta testing it for everyone else.

Is it really important to have your nands unlinked? My games re-wrap themselves and don't show up before booting to rxtools, but I don't really have an issue with any of that. The original guide I followed said it was optional, but after reading around it seems like this might've been a near necessary step.

Most games will work, but a few won't unless you apply more tinkering (region change to US with a public donor file). Triforce Heroes is probably the main one there, it uses your system region instead of game region.

Also don't forget about customs fees etc, importing might end up being more expensive than just buying an ACHHD one anyway.

Install BootNTR.cia in emuNAND.

Inside the plugin folder you need to make folders for the games you want to use NTR.

So I installed (Imported through bigblue) Mario paper jam CIA that said it was patched so that you didn't need NTR. So when the I hover over the game the sound plays but nothing happens on the top screen. then when I start the game it says creating save file then on the bottom screen says an error occured and that I have to start 3DS over. You can flash it to EmuNAND and it'll work just as your system did before. Format an SD card for EmuNAND with EmuNAND9 (don't use complete setup, just use the format tool for EmuNAND), copy the NAND backup to your SD card as \EmuNAND9\NAND.bin, use the backup menu to clone NAND.bin to EmuNAND. You can then put your old Nintendo 3DS folder on and it'll justwerk.

If it's a N3DS then you'll need a 10.3-compatible CFW, see OP.

gateway has a cheat system in their latest version (it's been nicknamed gateshark)
those two have codes on the database on fort42.com but the spider3dstools one only injects code once so infinite codes require ASM fuckery to work around itby breaking whatever mechanisms deplete health or money or magic or anything else that depletes. gateshark persists cheat codes so you dont need ASM for that.
there is also the cheat plugins function for NTR custom firmware which can be booted as a .cia under any custom firmware emuNAND and works on both New3ds and Old3DS but there are few plugins on GBAtemp and the sites that have more are in spanish and chinese and not all of them work. also navigating the download sites linked on the chinese site is annoying but if you guess what button does what and have any required passwords then you can get them. dont get old plugins if new ones are available and work better than the old ones or vice versa dont get new plugins that are broken when the old ones work. there's also HANS and LayeredFS but that requires dumping romfs of the games, editing, and repacking so the tool can load the game and redirecting romfs reading to the SD card. not worth it just for small changes using a huge modified romfs. didnt Super Smash Bros Brawl file redirection mods only require smaller files that are parts of the game to work? hell most of the Riivolution modding was all about that. i could do the cowtits mod but what's the point if i can just get a .cia?
also the Mario Kart 7 speedhacks cheat plugin is gone because the creator was butthurt people found out how to use it online and removed it. if anyone has it, please link it. there's no issue if it's just the .plg as NTR disables online. the problem only happened due to the source being reverse engineered and later used online somehow.

Rhythm Tengoku The Best Plus & Taiko games are pretty good, you don't need to know a single bit of nippon for either. There's a 30 or something minute long overview video on YouTube that has translations for some of the Rhythm Heaven menu stuff but you don't really need it.
