THEY MUST BE CLEANSED
If you're completely new to Sil, watch this series.
>The Orcish Mines are now two levels, and only spawn plain orcs as part of bands; gold generation is doubled to account for the shorter branch.
So now Orc is just even more straightforward about being a glorified shopping mall?
Well the good news are that my test worked perfectly
the bad news are that it only works in 3.5
so I'm going to play 3.5
The other good news are that I can make A LOT of MGS jokes
yes anon, I'm hogging all the fun and leaving you with none
you are burdened
you are also completely blind because it's at the bottom of your screen in neon yellow
wishing for a pair of lenses
i want to learn casters by playing a gargoyle wizard, what god should i worship? what the hell is a caster supposed to be training in what order as far as skills go?
optimally i want both tornado and firestorm to ruin ziggurats forever
So, I've cloned the git repository for crawl, but 'make' just gives me this
>make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop.
I also tried make crawl, which instead results in "make: Nothing to be done for `crawl'."
Anyone willing to tell me where I fucked it?
git clone https://github.com/crawl/crawl.git
//assuming cd for change directory
git submodule update --init
//assuming cd for change directory, use forward slashes if necessary
if you want to do mega zigs, you probably want a high HP character, because nothing protects you like high HP does, and by the time you've gotten to a zig, there's a good chance you've found statue form or necromutation to replace gargoyle's innate torment resistance.
Good caster gods are of course vehumet or sif muna. If you want to bomb ziggurats, you'll probably want to switch to makhleb in the lategame, because you'll probably have found some source of channeling, and only good players can clear ziggurats without makhleb.
3 uniques on single floor, though. Accursed, the disarming orc and spooky dark things that I can't hurt.
Hardly! Just discovering the wonderful world of hacking the net for the first time.
Oh boy, I can't wait.
I'm a lazy player, so I like small levels.
Then you get floors like this.
The rest of the knights on the right side.
Camelot is death with small levels but you have to get pretty unlucky too.
That's why I keep them on as well.
>small updates each friday
emphasis on the small. They're probably byte-sized.
The nerve of those fuckers.
>the -1 quickblade of the ass (drain, Rc+, Contam*)
I can't get a fucking dwarven smith build off the ground without wasting exp on melee/evasion in early game. I want to take advantage of that (alleged) guaranteed forge on 100 ft but I keep fucking splatting, especially since forges always seem to be guarded.
After FORTY FOUR GREE splats, I finally feel good about this one. Have a quarterstaff and book of the earth and everything.
Now I'm fleeing in terror from an ancestor's ghost who's LRDing me like there's no tomorrow.
Pray for me.
What level of evocations should I am for midgame if I wanna get that crushing going?
Also, yeah, I'm totally in love with the earth school. I've had Shatter castable just once, but it was addicting.
Got a rod of iron, my staff of earth, and a crystal ball of energy.
I have Iron Shot and Magma Bolt reliably castable. Working on my defences. Baily just handed me an enchanted Steam Dragon Armor, which is nice.
Oh shit, got a wish from a Darkforge Pool. Nice.
....what do I even wish for?
I'm almost tempted to go for something lame as shit like a fireproof blanket/rings of ice just cause they're something I could really use right now for the Tower of Eternal Flames.
Maybe some potions of cure corruption to trivialize the wyrm?
Is this hat worth it, anons? the active seems really useful but idk if I want to commit to a piece of cursed equipment.
You're being a dumdum on purpose, right?
Because jokes and stupidity are very hard to differentiate between in only written text.
My serious advice is to wear it, activate it, then rest until it recharges and store it. Equipment only recharges while worn.
Also I wish it were permanently or at least heavily cursed for maximum net neutrality.
I would probably wear it if it wasn't -2 con.
I also found Thengel on the same level, which is almost entirely useless for me because rage mages don't care about their Int, Wis, or max SP.
But an infinite source of uncursing is nice to have in the house.
>trying to add in some artefacts to PCB
>follow Chris' commits to the letter
>delete the data folder's contents
>they still don't exist
I think the 4.0.0 lib/edit files are broken or getting cached somewhere weird. I have no idea why this patch wouldn't work.
If anyone could tell me where I am going wrong, it would be much appreciated.
Here is the patch in question: https://bpaste.net/raw/71660c3a11a2
Ok, that's good then.
I knew in my heart that all those millions of absolutely stupid Crawl weapon questions over the years were just jokes.
Because no one is really that stupid.
Just after killing grinder, the other was blork.
So I'm starting to like Sil, although I am also relatively new to it as well. I'm in a small situation, but I'm playing it slowly. Any tips? Also is the rag any significance.
a) you can probably pull that orc pack around and go back up those stairs unless there are more already moving to surround you
b) get rid of your torches and use that lesser jewel!
c) the rag probably has a shitty enchantment on it.
lesser jewel in your inventory is essentially an inexhaustible torch so you should be wearing that once you get a chance
you should wear the ring until it is IDed
the rag is either an artifact or more likely what in any other *band would be called an ego. I'm guessing it is a +stealth one but who knows, I'm fairly new too. Your current studded leather of venom's end is likely better.
You should probably be wielding the special bastard sword over the starting curved sword if only to ID it, though there's a chance it's a cursed thing (though some curses are still useful for a while e.g. Fury)
I guess try backing away until you can find a stair, even a downstair. Then you can take it back upstairs immediately if you don't want to be at 250, at least while you try to find a safe space to rest. You may be doomed though.
There's some chance that one of your potions is e.g. confusion and that throwing it at the orc closest could help but I recommend fleeing and hoping for a stair
Forgot the picture.
Now it's just the wasting away one, as quaff-IDing a mut potion cured the clumsiness. He got two levels of the mutation, so now it's Dex +2,
At the end I didn't even have a chance to feel the effects because the tab got too deep inside me while killing a scorpion, getting him poisoned, and the first and second things I quaffed were a potion of poison and then berserk rage. Almost poetic, I suppose.
If I was smart I would've come here before going past Khelevaster, but hindsight is 20/20. Wouldn't go for an Ultra regardless, but the scroll would be nice.
Level 24 Dwarven Priest. Have the Rolf Combo, so I might go for Find Weakness and continue the ball rolling on wrecking shit in Melee.
Need to go through Tower of Eternal Flames next. Wands of Digging are made of teak in this game, so that's a no go. So I either get rings of ice and pickaxe through or Mystic Shovel. Or just try to find the rings of ice naturally / hope for the Mystic Shovel book in the Rift.
4 Corruptions, none are that bad except that the most recent one is the -9 DV for +6 damage one, so that'd be nice to get rid of before more stack on top of it.
Use the auto-destroyer, they said. It's easy, they said.
The default settings don't even destroy the trash wands anymore.
I wonder what that anon did to receive such a horrible fate.
Personally I only changed the resist heat and cold potions pickup and tinker with the armor and weapon auto-destroy levels.
>Wouldn't go for an Ultra regardless, but the scroll would be nice
he is mostly saved for the stuff which he gives to you which is already worth several wishes
>Need to go through Tower of Eternal Flames next. Wands of Digging are made of teak in this game, so that's a no go. So I either get rings of ice and pickaxe through or Mystic Shovel. Or just try to find the rings of ice naturally / hope for the Mystic Shovel book in the Rift.
i never really had problems with wands of digging there... but then, i think i always had a ring of ice because i always went for the best dwarven mystic award instead of the axe
to waste a wish for rings of ice doesn't seem that good imo... i'm sure you still have places to visit where you can find it
so, what to consider imo:
find weakness - note that you will need a lot of time before you train it though
seven league boots - drastically increase your speed, in the wilderness too
scrolls of corruption removal - bless them then btw
archery - the best way to get rid of the bosses, you need to train bows though
arrows of demon slaying - the best way to kill acw, if you don't have them yet, yet again you need to train bows at least a bit
I want to say archery the skill does very little, though maybe it was changed.
>arrows of demon slaying
Can you even wish for that? Or is that a separate type of arrow as opposed to an ego?
If you really want to wish for something to kill the wyrm, get spellbooks of [ball spell]. I think you have to use the priest spell names.
>I want to say archery the skill does very little, though maybe it was changed
the main thing why it's picked it's the access to lightning shot and eagle eyed
>Can you even wish for that? Or is that a separate type of arrow as opposed to an ego?
afaik you can (also google wishing for demon slaying)
don't wish for generic slaying though, afaik you will get random slaying ammo like giant slaying or something, slaying is ego
So the ToME orc expansion is coming pretty soon, have a couple of Steam Giant advertisements
I posted these once last month, but they're still the most entertaining completely-non-spoilery thing I can show
I don't think plain ol' "staffs of regeneration" exist in PCB.
Is that some other variant?
If its autodestroy works like PCB's you would want a rule like
The $ is the end-of-string indicator, so it won't match "staffs of regeneration of <thing>.
Getting pretty fast now. We Serpent-speed soon.
Here's my autodestroyer settings from when I blew that staff up. If you can find out why I blew it up, please tell me (usually all staves are ID'd and left on the floor).
Under the unaware items line.
There is no good reason to blow up devices since they're all useful to someone aside from a couple of the staves.
Yeah, but I have absolutely no idea why Regeneration: Healing got destroyed. I've been finding a ton of regular staves, Regeneration Staves, and more and none of them get destroyed.
Draw your character time! Hard mode:
Do it worse than mine
pcb demon pact warlock here
The better question is why you assume there is only one person here who dislikes ToME4. Or maybe why you respond to every post disparaging ToME4 with a shitpost like this.
We get it, you think ToME4 gets a bad rap. Nobody cares though.
First, before you do the warg quest you might want to look for a wand of heal monster as well as haste monster. You should be able to find some before you get to the wargs. Try to find more than one of these as they tend to either explode because of curses or get destroyed by fire hounds or traps.
Second, keep an eye out for magical figurines in the wand shop in town as sometimes you will get a unicorn or some thing that you can ride that is tougher than the starting horse.
Third, keep an eye for staves of summon monster (not summoning, those are bad!) or summon hydra. Keep in mind that the quality of the summoned monsters depends on dungeon depth so the deeper you the better the chances that you can summon a sweet mount. You can find these staves in the black market in the starter town.
Do keep in mind that as a cavalry guy you have short and long bows as well as the yumi skills set to beginner so you should stock up on some phase door scrolls. With the phase doors and a decent supply of arrows you should be able to soften up most threats before they start scratching up your ride and you will build the riding skill up every time you shoot while mounted.
As for weapon selection, you may need to diversify as decent lances are hard to come by in the beginning so look for a decent warhammer or anything with "Riding" in the description.
Let me know if any of that advice helped, please.
We Serpent Speed now.
Okay it's not really worth losing my second pip of Acid resistance.
Well, 4.0 is an experimental version.
I don't know why but now devices are somehow randomized, too. But not completely randomized.
I don't know. I'm pretty sure that if you want to mod PCB you should first try with 3.5, but I tried playing that again and I just couldn't go back to the old UI.
That's an issue with the way that the ego index works.
The new device system just uses the ego index, but there aren't enough values to correctly call the required elements to forge a device now (device type, device effect, device ego) since there are only 2 values in object type. Chris needs to devise a new system for it to work.
I usually stay silent about tome because I played it some years ago for the sake of it even if I didn't really like it
But this shit I dredmor tier.
I wouldn't buy that on the very basis that this was in the game.
Golem rage-mage, shouting everything to death. Well mostly. For uniques I've been spamming rage-phase-door and using my crossbow.
The boots are a pretty nice find. Pink obviously because of the nexus resistance.
God this is fucking terrible. I have an otherwise exellent Gargoyle Earth Elementalist with Statrot 2. I'm losing him slowly; I'm losing stats faster than they replenish. Rather than 14/27/14, I'm at fucking 4/16/4.
GIVE ME A FUCKING CMUT. PLEASE. THIS IS PURE FUCKING HORSESHIT.
They seem cool in theory, but yeah. They only have very few attack spells and they get something like 3 blows per round. It's fun to deal with big packs of enemies by funneling them into a corridor and hitting 20 at once with a shout, but I'm going to be pretty boned once I start seeing nasty spellcaster uniques that I can't kite forever with phase door + ranged attacks.
But the thing is that when I looked at the rewards for the other quests (example: Wand of rockets/disint/rod of mama balls for a specific high quest if you're a devicemaster and a wand of frost bolts for the warg quest if you are a devicemaster) the wand code , which is 269: xxx, was fine. Those four items had what you could call a "3.5 code" but only apparently, since when I looked at the list of the wands in prefsomething by looking at the code, I only got different results. Say that wand of rockets is 269:559. You check for "559" in the GIT repository and find it's defined as "rockets". So you think, wowie gee I am going to grab the ID code of another wand since it's supposed to work the same and use it!
Wrong. Because for some reason yes, rockets matches but frost bolts does not and so don't all the other Wands.
I don't know
I will probably spawn myself a rune sword as a zerker as a thief quest reward like that dude did and hope I have fun.
Christ that burst damage from the world is scary.
Yeah. I mean I made all the changes and it _should_ work, but it simply doesn't. It's really aggravating actually. I tried to make a similar change to fix the bug with the logrus master quest reward.
The values must be getting cached in an encrypted format somehow or placed in a wierd position on our systems.
Try some Sil man.
Fuck your confusion spam, I'm gonna go grind some hounds
This counteracts my laziness health malus quite well
Shame I only have 1.5 blows of 34 damage.
It's all I can do.
That, and bask in fail rates.
When I get summon monsters I will become the qythulug hiding behind great wyrms and whatnot.
>implying I get 34 WHOLE POINTS of damage
I was mistaken.
Yes. Very much so.
Playing shitty characters makes for an interesting playstyle.
Tonberry monk of nature with pretty good stealth.
Not pictured: 3 friendly Great Bile Wyrms in pokeballs
why would I feel awkward? I'm gay af bro.
how do I fight these wights?
Sounds exactly like my old half titan archaeologist.
For the sake of your sanity, I hope you find some yeek gloves and a wand of clone monster, because no man should be subjected to that horrible punishment.
My angel cant get enough of all these balls.
Mount selection - dragons. Seriously, work your way up to where you can either pokeball or buy a magical figurine of an ancient dragon or better.
The reason I say dragons is because they tend to be the fastest mounts. Once you have a dragon work on getting a dracolisk or a greater bile wyrm or venom wyrm. Also, the longer you fight and ride on a mount the faster your mounted movement speed becomes so find a good ride and stick with it for a while. Avoid crystal anything as they reflect heal monster and haste monster spells.
I like to play half-titan for the free probing and high strength and constitution.
>Gachapin breathes chaos for half my health
>land on top of an amulet of rChaos
Here's the idea.
I go to dragon lair and PRAY TO FUCKING GOD for a Planetar or Solar
So,in poschengband,i sometimes get some statue items as drops ( stone statue of a paladin, for example) ,they weight a fucking ton and ... anyone knows what do they do ? I have no clue whatsoever , wands and scrolls of identify and *identify* tell me nothing...
That's more like it.
Now give me a gravity/nexus beam.
Yhey're a really exploity item that nobody really knows how to use, but by looking at the code I found out!
They have no use and are only there for fun
there's also an autodestroyer option to autodestroy statues if you don't actually like fun, it's just commented out
and here is the part where I write random stuff just to make you think this was a real spoiler
did you know that horses eat their own poop
that's fucking gross man
gross as hell
How does protection from evil work?
Pretty much the perfect weapon for a useless angel.
I can probably take on Camelot now that I can actually damage the knights.
Angel who can't be bothered reading the bible: 1
Had a very close run-in with Gawain
I guess the game really wants me to be vulnerable to shards
The earth hound breathes, your everything breaks!
I've had enough for tonight, best of luck to the rest of ye poor souls.
Throwing master race reporting in
90% of Gorgol hp in one hit
Note: I started this fight at level 48, almost level 49. With Capped Str, Con, and nearly capped Dex. All other stats at 18/xx or 18/xxx.
Here's the monster info for further reference as to why this fucker is the worst:
[U] Richard Wong, Master of Time (White 'p')
=== Num:880 Lev:81 Rar:3 Spd:+25 Hp:6000 Ac:190 Exp:45000
He is normally found on dungeon level 81, and moves extremely quickly. Killing this evil Human is worth about 1215000.00 points for a 1st level character. He reflects bolt spells. He usually appears with escorts. He is magical, casting spells intelligently which produce water balls, psycho-spear, cause brain smashing, produce mana bolts, terrify, confuse, heal-self, dispel-magic, blink-self, teleport-self, stop the time, teleport to, teleport away or summon aid; 1 time in 2. He can pass through walls. He regenerates quickly. He resists acid, lightning, fire, cold, poison, water, nexus and time. He cannot be confused or slept. He takes a while to see intruders, which he may notice from 1000 feet. He may carry up to 14 good objects. He can hit to time with damage 5d8, hit to time with damage 5d8, hit to time with damage 5d8, and kick to disenchant with damage 8d10. (Hengband 1.6.0)
stopped reading right there. I hate that spell so much you can't understand.
Apropos randart names anyone?
The game is more fun when you fight things you should not.
There's a difference between things you shouldn't fight because they'll be difficult and things you shouldn't fight because they'll be an asshole and drain all your stats and XP and disenchant all your gear.
I also dislike ToME4 because the tiles look like ass and it's got an autistic resistance checklist oriented gameplay I hate. I also don't like the sifting through piles of useless loot as reward for beating enemies, nor the unironically cringe-worthy writing.
This is also the first time I've posted about ToME4 as well, before you decide everyone who doesn't like what you like is the same person.
How do you intentionally go looking for a specific item like Wands of Heal/Haste Monster? Just spend a bunch of time sweeping the dungeon until it pops?
I guess there's also shop restock? But with my luck they never seem to spawn good stuff
>it's no longer called a Wand of Cold Balls
you're already playing an easy game.
then change Class. Race. Stop trying to kill everything you see. Change game. Change genre. Change general.
No matter what you choose, stop complaining about inane things.
you were not asking a question about the morgue, you are playing like an idiot and instead of learning from your mistakes instead ask us to give you an eraser.
You will never git gud with that kind of attitude.
Anyway what tells you that I would not enjoy that plate of cock
play online so we can help
(insult and sexually harass)you
It'd be great if elitist faggots like you trying to tell others how to play game and seething with rage everytime they read something that doesn't agree with their worldview just fuck off.
It's just a game you dumb shit.
Fact: it is a bad idea to recommend DCSS to a new player
>replying to shitpost with even more shitpost
you make momji sad.
Is it just me or are blasty mages in PCB even more of a chore than the normal game? It's like I have to scum a dlevel with a large open room to kill every dungeon boss, and even then it's hard unless you're overleveled as fuck. Compare to most melee where you just buff and go, or buff and do the teleport game for a bit.
I just gave up on a lich round level 30 because it was a pain in the ass killing anything that put up any kind of fight.
>Is it just me or are blasty mages in PCB even more of a chore than the normal game?
I used to play VSBe with shortblades when I was bored and didn't have anything else to do. Fast regen and quickblades is fun for a while, but otabbing isn't really that fun.
I don't bother with anything other than wands or fruit, it's not called scroll of disappointment for nothing. I can always put that extra fire bolt to use, unlike large shields or -3 AC +2 EV rings.
>implying it's old
>not knowing about the new archives
>japanese majong- flash
well, at least I'm not a fucking weeb.
>being this mad about Oiratian cliffjumping pastimes on an Oiratian cliffjumping forum
>>>/reddit/ is that way.
S-stop making up words, weeb
So are devicemasters for things other than wands incredibly shit? Do they just have no offensive capabilities at all until they find a rod of firebolt or a staff of holy word or whatever? What do potionmasters even DO, other than chug a limitless supply of *healing*?
So, I actually did it.
I am hoping for lots of fun ahead of me.
I present to you the Amazing Autoexplore Algorithm of DCSS
oh man that was a bad idea
I guess I should wait a while before using it
that runecheese dude said he put it on as soon as he found it and he did the same thing I did, edit the thieves quest reward to drop a runesword.
either he lied or he also put a regular weapon in his other hand.
Cornered by that green orc gang trying to get to the stairs
I really really enjoy Qud.
The only reason I'm not playing it right now is that
my last two esper runs were both ended by the same thing - my dominated ally attacking a sleeping slumberling which proceeded to charge me and rape me in two turns
Does any game have good ally AI?
Strange how deep I made despite dumping lot of points in perception. I guess Focused Attack and Master Hunter make up a lot.
I like the game, but I got to the end of current content once (banana tower quest or whatever) and now can't really work myself up to play it again if there's no new stuff.
Pleb. Ally killdudes is the worst killdudes there is.
It's why brogue sucks, as do summoners in any roguelike ever.
Yeah, I know. Dominate is so fucking powerful everywhere all the way up to the midgame, though - that is literally the only scenario where it fucks you. It'd be really hard to rush the waterlogged tunnel without it. I'll probably do without it whenever I take on another run, though.
> not played DCSS in years
> decide play web version once or twice
just as full of removed content as i remembered it, fuck this
> on a laugh, decide to see "where it all went wrong" and the old feature removals started to happen
> .6 and the removal of divinations was the true begining of REMOVE FEATURES
> so i track down and play .5.0.2 instead of current
> enjoy DCSS again for quite some time
hmm, levels seem kind of bland
> decide to add some (mini)vaults
> 12 hours later have done nothing but add vaults
The best part about being drunk is that you won't care as long as you have more beer, I just downed my first of the evening and it tastes great with PCB.
Also I thought you were making fun of me for rolling but it seems you were just going along with the flow, I'm sorry anon.
>> decide to add some (mini)vaults
>> 12 hours later have done nothing but add vaults
submit your vaults for merging
they'll be rejected because content is haram, but it's worth a try
Please draw Corwin laying a terrible death curse on an unsuspecting PCB player like I requested yesterday.
I've literally made a floating vault that is 40 tiles long, 3 tiles wide... of just a line of water. it has 10 subst: lines to randomize each quarter of the "river"
another vault is 38 tiles long, it's just a fucking stone-wall lined floor hallway with w:3 of level-appropriate traps.
Who's corwin? If you don't tell me, I'm going to assume this counts.
It's a greenlizard confuse weak guy as the pc :3c
what does he look like?
i'm imagining a powdered fop who looks sort of like the rosy cheeked android from dbz, like the marquis de sade but slightly obese and with a cheeky smile
Well if you haven't played PCB it probably wouldn't be as fun to draw shit related to it.
Maybe something DDA related?
We get so little decent quality OC drawings it's embarrassing for an image board thread.
DDA has so many fun things you could draw even though the game gets boring once you learn the ropes.
Such a nice statstick for a caster at level 31.
Now to search for Gandalf's and Saruman's sticks and eventually Athena's spear.
>not playing dynahack and slashthem at the same fucking time, doing a few floors in each
Why is slashthem so ugly
Why does it have zero convenience of Dyna
Yeah I know anon, but it's kinda fun to play two separate variants side by side with same race/class and compare results.
Besides Dyna taught me enough about nethack to at least not fumble horribly in slashthem.
I think he's just fucked up something in these options.
anons I'm really loving these character drawings. I looked at all of them and they're really fun.
corwin description from the books
>green eyes, black hair, dressed in black and silver, yes. i had on a cloak and it was slightly >furled as by a wind. i had on b]ack boots, like eric's, and i too wore a blade, only mine was >heavier, though not quite as long as his. i had my gloves on and they were silver and scaled. >the clasp at my neck was cast in the form of a silver rose.
The sword is the faerie-silver sabre Greyswandir.
may beruthiel be found by you as well
The (+X) or sometimes (-X) is the number for any "it affects" (your strength, your speed, etc). This number for an item is known as the pval.
Why do I find this when I just want to sing pretty songs
now would be a great time to read *Destruction* or Teleport Level. Impresive that you aren't dead yet.
Also, forest-type levels are more dangerous than normal levels of their depth because of how open they are. I often re-generate them.
did you survive?
Well I survived that but splatted yet fucking again.
Same as every time, I get "Terrified" at ~100HP and get blasted to shit because I underestimate the enemies.
Anyways Chaos is a pretty good realm and Subtle Casting is awesome.
I'd cream in your pie if you know what I mean.
Caught in a landslide
No escape from reality
Seems we're pretty dead on yuro Friday evening.
I've already drunken fist splatted a level 33 High-Mage and a level 25 Ninja in PCB.
I promise to git gud from now on.
Hold the phone!
I splatted yet again.
It never really happens at this low level anymore but that Variant maintainer just absolutely fucked me with confusion since I had no curing potions.
the secret is to use a hallway and ctrl+attack to try and attack without stepping. This prevents you from confuse-moving even if the attack goes unexpectedly towards an open tile because of confusion, so you avoid the surround etc. The Variant Maintainer is squishy enough that most melee dudes can murder him in this way while confused.
What's the easiest class to attempt madness with?
I think it's Archmage, but i'm also looking at this guide: http://forums.te4.org/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=42998
The adventurer build seems more easy and tab-autoattack, while the Archmage is more suited to my style.
However, the adventurer build seems to ease A LOT the slog of madness later and it involves way less kiting and more tab-spam later in the game.
Anyway, if i chose the adventurer build, i can't figure early levelling and point distribution to get as safely as possible to the core of the build.
I did just that of course but it wasn't really Variant maintainer that killed me but the tele that landed me directly next to him at 40 hp after stepping on a confusion trap and getting arrowpenetrated by 10 novice rangers.
I really should've just gone back before any of that and gotten some CCW potions.
I am own fault.
>you go on without me
Alright, but we'll meet up to play roguelikes in Gensokyo, right?
I think that build got fucked for 1.3, with timeless not extending unstoppable anymore, so you'd either play archmage or the demonologist/sacrifice shield adventurer which works pretty well
at least up until dreadfell, where I splatted
You probably shouldn't play madness desu, not really fun at that point.
Oh, didn't know that.
Thanks for the tip anon, but i think i'll still give it a go and quit if i find it too frustrating.
I actually like Tome4, but the difficulty levels are kinda fucked up 8after nightmare it's the most unfair roguelike in existence).
On an unrelated note, how is ADOM compared to other major roguelikes? Especially regarding difficulty and "content" (number of items, places, races/classes etc)
Don't know why you quoted me, but here's my two cents:
Slaying is better for killing stuff, and that should be your priority.
Are you struggling to survive? If so, keep the 5 AC until you feel you can make it without it.
Othwerwise, keep slaying.
Anothing character eaten by crash AHHHH I love this game so much.
Are pets/magical figurines worth buying?
will the ally ai fuck me over?
ADoM is pretty easy in the early game and pretty sandboxy in general. Lots of content, definitely not as much as PCB or Cata, but more than crawl.
You'd get a different impression since folks love spouting memes around here, but it's better in the spoiler department than most *hacks.
It's not as spoiler-free as brogue or Sil, but there's precisely one instakill spoiler (the banshee), which is easily avoidable and well known to boot, besides it only applying to one level of the main dungeon. There's the cat thing, which is not really dangerous unless you're a enormous scrub, as demonstrated by troll archmage guy when he killed literally every cat he found so the cat lord would give him more experience. Those two are pretty much the only spoilers you should care about, and they don't matter until the late game.
Okay, changing the font fixed the ugly ass walls a bit.
A WILD RATTATA APPEARS
So apparently there's a guaranteed town on level 5 in slashthem. Worth keeping the pet around for INCREDIBLE SAVINGS
>but nobody came...
>but nobody came...
I just did a little while ago.
Argh, Qud has alt bound to a hardcoded toggle that draws the map without walls. Now I have to manually crop out my other screen. Gaah.
Diving really deep is the most fun I've had so far - somehow it feels less risky killing the high tier animals instead of risking those thorn traps in the starter dungeon.
ubuntu mono is better
also check out this barely legal elf maiden
not him but currently I'm using dejavu sans modern
Gee sil how come morgoth lets you have TWO forges when I'm not playing a smithy dude
I'm not using ubuntu mono, THIS >>128653317
is ubuntu mono. I'm just using the default sil font.
Anyway does anyone know if a 1.5 lb cloak is better or worse than a 2.5 lb cloak?
>Also Deja Vu Sans Mono is a great option if you need unicode in your game since it covers a lot of UTF-8 characters.
yeah that's definitely part of why I use it. Previously I'd been using Source Code Pro (also a very clean sanserif font), but the & symbol for Sil's stationary-plant-monsters didn't appear until I switched to Deja Vu Sans Mono.
lighter weight is better except if you end up getting that heavy-armor ability way down the line
Enough drams can buy any dream...
Being an esper is pretty nifty, though. I have no "real" direct damage skills and I'm out of bullets so I'm having real trouble dealing with robots since I can't destroy their minds.
This is my current plan - increasing one stat with ego projection, refreshing with mass mind and increasing another stat. This gives me more stats than a level 30 warrior. Shame I'm still fucking dumb at using weapons.
Glad to see you took my advice to try out some Sil!
Oh man, that would be a godsend if you were running an artistry character.
Figured out why it happened. The "!ration" line to destroy useless food was catching it since I was a demon. regene*ration*.
Didn't notice it before since I added that conditional stuff pretty recently.
That's cheating. You took the screenshot while ego-projecting your agility.
You can kill solo enemies pretty easily with force wall plus literally any projectile weapon. Surround them in 8 walls, shoot them while they're stuck. They can't shoot back.
Cud somehow manages to have one of the most satisfying level-up screens
Can't I just slap my 2100 xp into smithing so I could smith some cool gear? I tried to make a jewel, but I couldn't.
I'm sure it's in the tutorial, but mpa-sil doesn't have a working tutorial for some reason.
>tfw have to manually edit the registry to add the fonts
So apparently when I bold the Deja Vu font, the walls freak out. When not bold, they're fine.
>The "!ration" line to destroy useless food was catching it since I was a demon. regene*ration*.
That will get reset on your next character though.
You can just do a line like
>!food:ration of food
or something, which is what I have.
Generally the longer and more specific your filter lines are, the better.
Ninja or other hybrids like monk or Paladin.
You can kill shit by bumping but you'll also get good device skill and spells.
Also with the Ninja and other stealth classes you can take risks and dip high-level dungeons earlier for a chance at good loot and enemies that give good exp and are fightable.
Press 0 to see the forge dialogue.
Smithing is very XP intensive, you you really need to spend at least 3600 (2600 if you have proficiency) on it to get good things at the start (2100 for level 6, 500 for a base-type smithing, 1000 for artistry).
Can Cavalry that's riding shit that can pass through walls pass through walls when riding?
I know I worded that like a dumbass but you know what the fuck I mean.
It's been a while.
Um? I mean Fedhas is literally "I maek shroom and get through Lair", his later powers might be tricker but hey, you're past Lair with minimum effort. With Oka it's more like "I can get quite a bit killer and also twice killier but I still need some proper threat assessment, oh and also I get gifts that are mostly junk but occasionally amazing". Seems a bit more complicated. Should I melee that hydra under Hero? The answer is unclear. Should I let that hydra walk through my shroom field, get confused and die horribly? Sure, why not.
I'm atually not new I just don't play casters often. I pick Fedhas when I think I won't be able to get a character to Lair without spamming evolution on mushrooms.
I never pick Oka even on my tablords because he strikes me as rather bland.
Too much dcss concentrated in the last fifteen minutes.
Who woke up the kids?
I agree with you, and you would think that was the case, but not-tabbing can be very difficult for newer players.
Oh, okay. My only caster win got d:2 Jivya via randalter, but I don't play DCSS terribly often anyway so maybe I'm not the best to give advice.
Put up or shut up.
Okay I have to say this is the most bullshit thing that's ever happened to me in PCB.
All I did was open the door at full health and then I'm at -43.
Fuck, I have no idea what happened.
That's a lot of damage at Icky cave level 30.
What are those ps? Guessing curse-y dudes.
Sometimes you just get crazy stuff regardless.
