Lets play our best today!
Totally worth ALL OF MY *HEALING*
FUCK YOU MUM
>already have time resistance because demeter demigod
>can't use jewel of judgement for *healing* grind
Made a shitty amulet out of it.
Ive played enough for today.
Remember that damaging brand choice is literally irrelevant in a 3-rune game, unless it's venom.
Probably Hasty Ninja, either Klackon, Sprite, Centaur, or Demigod of Hermes.
Hasty is +2 right off the bat, Ninja is +3 and an extra +1 per 10 levels, and any of those races also gets +1 speed per 10 levels.
That's only +15 speed by level 50, though.
Ninja is only a total +8 so classes with temporary +10 speed buffs can become temporarily faster.
And if you really want to reach maximum speed you can play a monster race with lots of ring slots, or maybe grind for a billion boots of speed on a centipede.
Lets forget about going downstair on this floor
>pls we need drawfags
it would be good, but it's not an OP-worthy request.
Also we don't "need".
>no sil OP win
0/10 apply yourself.
Anyone played it?
This game has skills apparently? Not unlike ToME2 in a way, I guess.
pick one thing to add back into stable
change one thing about the feature to make it more interesting
Lehudib's Crystal Spear (the artifact)
Now has a chance, based on throwing, to explode into shrapnel when it hits a foe. The spear is not damaged and returns per usual.
Why was this even removed?
you're doing this on purpose aren't you
Halfling, Merfolk, Mummy, Demonspawn(potentially), or Gargoyle all have great tanking potential.
Though if you are a beginner, I would recommend Merfolk or Gargoyle out of those.
FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK
WHY DOES EVERYTHING HAVE TO CURSE MY BAG OF HOLDING
THE FUCKING WIZARD APPEARED
CASTED DOUBLE TROUBLE
AND THEN CURSED MY SHIT TWICE IN A FUCKING ROW
AND BOTH OF THE TIMES IT TARGETED MY BAG
I HAD TO DROP THAT SHIT
AND NOW I CAN'T EVEN PICK IT UP WHILE NAKED
ALL MY SHIT IS IN THERE
HOW THE FUCK AM I SUPPOSED TO UNCURSE IT IF I CAN'T PICK IT UP FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
Give me some Sil tips for slightly past early game - I've read the pastebin.
Now that 1.3 is out I can make it past Orc Warriors to around 250-300 before I get whacked.
What are the best abilities to buy in each category? I got a feeling half of them aren't very useful and some are must-picks.
You should pump melee and evasion early on. You could get charge or sprint for starting
Also I feel bad I just splatted a stealth char just after finding the short sword of Amrod that give bonus to stealth
Google silstreamer on youtube. He has quite a few good videos of commentary on other people's Sil runs and explains why they do a lot of what they do.
As anon said, a good strategy is to just level melee/EV early.
Dodging/Flanking is a really easy to use pair of abilities that makes combat positioning much easier and lets you crowdclear like crazy.
I usually get 5 Song around 600 ft or so for Song of Trees and then don't touch it until the end game for Slaying/Sharpness. You don't need to worry about it until late midgame.
You can pick up your bag without it triggering, dumb dumb.
You didn't put your scroll of remove curse and potions of holy water in the bag of holding right anon
They're in an oilsack right anon
Nobody would be that stupid right anon
eh, it's not that surprising that you should have a reliable way to kill dudes (melee or archery with melee support - with defenses strong enough to survive the most noble 1v1 or 2v1 battle) or have a way to avoid dudes (overwhelming stealth with singing support)
If you have neither then I dont know what you expect to do when something remotely dangerous spots you...
Quest of the unicorn
It's an incredible game with lots of history and items and an interesting location system but holy shit
it's so bad to play
so so bad
it's like the dev made it like this on purpose BUT THERE ARE SO MANY INTERESTING THINGS
basically you just want to play for the loot drops.
Well that didn't work, but at least i managed to remove enough stuff from it to be able to lift it and bless it again
Still mad about losing frostbrand, who the hell thought item curses were fun
That's a lot of orcs.
Lagduf and Azog have decided to join forces against me.
Ooooh I want it! I hope it's something good.
Oh well, I was hoping for some magical artefact. More light is always good I guess.
i'm disappoint in sil
this game randomly put me into an impossible situation which roguelikes shouldn't do
poor girl was so young, just 64 y.o... she ate everything, quaffed everything and died searching the walls [by resting near them as i gather it should work] till the last breath... were she escape (and find food) at the last moments, the minimal depth of 700 (btw it means that this depth counter is turn-bound not exp-bound) would effectively kill her anyway
also, how do you remove curse in sil except by a certain ability?
>nobody answered Vine Stalker Fighter
Don't let the small HP pool fool you, the intrinsic spirit shield and ridiculous regeneration more than makes up for it. Once you get plate and fill your aux slots you'll become pic related, doubling as wolverine between fights.
tunnelling needs a mattock or something, baching doesn't work if you didn't find a door
i tried a random build found on this thread which suggested to take evasion and dodge and didn't bother with perception
eh... well ty
>didn't bother with perception
it's a good idea to drop some points into that
you can get three levels in it for just 600xp, and three grace brings that to six, which is good enough and gets you access to keen senses
perception and will are sort of like the secondary attack and defense skills respectively, and you should be pumping those up slowly in addition to melee and evasion, even if it's only a few points here and there
song of sneakyness
sing it to the top of your lungs, your foes will be incredibly confused at a human screaming "I AM SO SNEAKY, A SNEAKY SNEAKY THIEF, NOBODY CAN SEE ME I'M A SNEAKY SNEAKY THIEF"
Almost there anon
And you are right.
Now I need to make some sneaky plan to get it though
All right I didnt try exchange place, I realized that he doesnt have a breath so I just lured him and with my boots of speed I was able to grab Angrist before he came back to sleep on his treasures
For a stealthy sil win you need the song that puts things to sleep. If you sing it well enough, morgoth will fall to sleep and the crown will fall off his head so you can hit it with Angrist and take a sil.
Yeah I know the basic for it, I already have Lorien. So with Angrist I have everything I need? Any advice on where I should I put my xp now? My previous best attempts ended at 850 ft
I'm not sure how good your singing needs to be to pull it off. Normally characters want a bunch more will to avoid Morgoth's slowing song, not sure if that will matter for this character or not since I haven't personally run or watched a stealth win yet...I'm not sure if Morgy will wake up for the chase during the ascent singing at you. But if he does wake up, you need 28 will (more likely 18 + FA or 8 + double FA) to be immune to his slowing song.
Also a staff of revelations would be ideal to help the ascent though it's not actually necessary.
You could try asking for advice in the ##sil irc channel, they have some much more experienced players. Especially if you post a chardump on oook for them to look at and then ask ##sil to look at it and advise.
I don't think so but maybe. The main domain is a czech Ren-faire-esque photographer's site (oook.cz) who also happens to love Angband and administrates the forums (angband.oook.cz)
>possibly the best Sil player in the world.
I wonder what it feels like to be the best player in the world at a specific roguelike
I know I'm the best player in the world at incavead
*but it's not really that much considering I'm almost the only guy who plays it
>Most active player: Anon, with 198 games played.
>Most achievements achieved: Anon
I wish people would play that more honestly
it was a fun game
bitch nigga sage fucked me in the ass and stole my top win
sage is really good
I haven't played it in almost a year
>The Ring's current status, monitored online:
>Found somewhere on dungeon level 8 (follow a tunnel due north-west). It has been there since 27/2/2015, 03:18:50.
yep, one year
I mean I'm having fun, but I really could use a stat restore potion. I'm actually encumbered by my gear which should really never happen to a warrior who isn't lugging around platemails.
it's great to read these messages in the overworld.
#fuckcurses #rubberchickenstronk #ascendingwithmorethan10unusedwishes
Oh god I'm dying here
It's nice to come back
Well I think I'll stop for now. This is getting pretty stressful- still no restoration.
I've managed to become effectively polymorphed from a mighty high elven warrior to a trashy edain tourist.
It's real survival though, I never though I would be so glad to have a scant 2 scrolls of teleport and a few potions of speed. Ironman kinda works in FAAngand since there are so many dungeons which you can descend in order in Hybrid mode.
Okay so I started PCB today, and there are few things aren't in the help files.
How do I get past rubble and walls with treasure? (tried searching around them for hidden doors as the newbie guide says but to no avail)
Do I walk slower while searching?
Can I make food out of monster corpses or I just have to rely on what I buy/find?
I can't read scrolls, is that because I'm a dumb berserker or can I learn that later on?
In DCSS you want to read-ID Identify scrolls, then ID your panic button consumables before read-IDing anything else if possible and only read-ID stacks in case you get into shit.
In Angband you get so much ID from scrolls, staves, or other sources that use-ID is almost unheard-of.
All right, Ill stop looking for loot and go down. I find the deeper parts are actually easier than the middle for a stealthy build, because I usually die to the numerous orc patrols. This one had to dive a shaft 2 times so she is lucky.
Berserkers in PCB can't use any devices except potions. This includes scrolls.
You buy food. You can also buy dinner at the inn. It's cheap.
Just use the wait key to search.
Ctrl+Direction burrows through walls. Since you are a zerker you can probably burrow pretty fast.
Good luck mate.
I'm not sure if this is still the case, but I think stealing the Sil breaks tension, so make sure that things are asleep on your escape route. Probably all of that XP can go into song.
FAAngband seems pretty cool. I'll give it a whirl sometime.
I like how it adjusted the screen size and popped the windows automatically. I basically don't have to do anything to set it up, it's nice.
Im scared, please don't notice me
Im listening to the Perfect Dark ost during this game
And now is a good time to run away
The search mode takes twice as long as normal walking. What it's really doing is spending a turn to use the 's'earch command after each step.
FLY YOU FOOL
alternative, RUN! TAKE THE SIL AND RUN!
DD (for racial damage reduction) of quazlel for F R E E sh and immunity to non magic ranged attacks plus contextual protection (more ac when being tabbed, element resist when being damaged by elements)
hill orc can go beogh that gives sh and ac bonus but no idea how much big can make you
That sucks. I guess i could set up my base inside the sewage treatment plant to make use of it if I made the makeshift funnels for water. Seems like i can find someplace better though
use the tunnel command to dig through rubble or rock or veins of treasure. Harder material takes more turns to dig through or may be impossible to dig, depending on your strength and the tunelling or sharpness level of whatever you're wielding to dig with
?k should bring you to the commands list. I use the roguelike_mode keyset option and don't remember what the standard dig command key is.
>Can I make food out of monster corpses or I just have to rely on what I buy/find?
if you play monster demon you are forced to eat humanoid corpses... the tavern and the grocery shop won't sell you *that* meal!
some races also eat flasks of oil or wand charges
ordinary food isn't a problem at all, it's dirt cheap and plenty, you just regularly eat in the tavern and keep some snacks for traveling... quaffing potions give some nutrition if you manage to screw it up and end in the wilderness without food
on a side note, no teleport will likely end your zerker killed... play warrior for an easy all rounded melee class
Zerkers are bad to learn how to play the game, they lose mileage pretty fast. Play an android rune knight instead, which is an incredibly overpowered and exploity combo
that still isn't enough to make you win the game though, the guide is at the bottom the poschengband pasta
Holy shit I may die here if they dont hurry the fuck up to the stairs
>Also I can't think of a single roguelike where that is an optimal ID strategy
use-id is very common in dcss
read-id till you find an id scroll is the go-to strategy in adom
use-id seems pretty common in sil too (btw, does identifying items with lore master give you exp?)
I don't think recommending a specific class for Poschengband newbies is a great idea, since it's more important to just pick what looks fun for you. If he's enjoying Berserker then more power to him. Part of why the game is so fun is that it has a billion class/races to pick from.
Also starting with rune knight exploit is a fucking terrible idea. You're satan.
This is an elf thats why, I put my pride aside cause I wanted a win
desu reaching lvl 50 isn't the hard part of poschengband, adroid or not (also isn't filling all the resistance holes a royal pain for an android)
killing the snake is the hard part
i really hate it when the roguelike makes a very hard boss fight as the only means to win the game
Use-id happens in most roguelikes, but "just picking them up and using them as [you] find them" is not ideal in pretty much every one.
Yes, loremaster gives XP. If you want to speedrun a morgoth kill- for example, you will probably take loremaster since it's actually the fastest way to gain XP.
I think he's a Finarfin.
>isn't filling all the resistance holes a royal pain for an android)
indra is an almost guaranteed drop.
And yeah, PCB would be a lot more fun if the amulet of stopsummoningmonsters was 100 times more common because summonerssummoningsummoners is just whack
in dcss read id is 100% safe, the only scrolls that can fuck you are torment and vulnerability but are completely harmless without enemies around so you just have to wait out their effects
quaff id can be annoying because of mutations and pot of degeneration (if you're a caster getting a int drop or caster unfriendly mutation, tabbers won't notice stats drop ever unless it's something massive as -10 that i think can't happen with a single degen potion)
equip id once you have remove curse scrolls ranges from safe (cursed -X stuff) to annoying (drain on unequip in mid/late game) and chance of rape (chance of banish on unequip)
however when you reach the point where drain can be an issue and you'd be mad to splat you'll be sitting on tons of identify scrolls so there will be no risk
Lugonu really makes the early game easier.
>even easier to please than trog
>piety decay? What piety decay?
>first three abilities are get-out-of-Abyss free card, Unlimited Blink Works and "I win" button against all early enemies
>Yes, loremaster gives XP
that's very nice, ty
how much melee and evasion is good to have at something like 400' - 700' - 1000' depths?
did you start it with no wilderness or something
It means most of the advice in the short pasta is invalid, since the pasta assumes you are playing with wilderness on.
The advice about consumables to carry with you still stands, but you can't follow the walkthrough-style guide, since you don't have any of those dungeons to quest to.
Just resumed and reached the surface, the last levels my staff of revelation was empty and it was really scary with Morgoth on my back
talking about dwarf fortress, i always wanted to create a "main dungeon" for other anons to explore in adventure mode but i have no idea how to put shit inside aside from mechanized traps, openings and whatever
watching hjklyubn termcasting retaking the lead of the poschengband christmas competition, trying to fight santa, when suddenly...
He's still alive, though he had to abandon the gear. Fortunately for him, he's already got the most uniques killed, though it seems like there's some bug mis-sorting him on the ladder as 2nd place, which should get sorted out.
Nice try by Exo (I think from /rlg) to try and snipe the lead with posting a first-place chardump a few days ago for the first time, with 18 hours played. Verrrrry dishonoraburu that was, denying the information to the other contenders. Well, Exo died and it looks like rwbarton should take this comp unless somebody else pulls a similar snipe.
Well uh that last level was underwhelming, only things in my way were traps.
First Sil win! Pretty standard melee build. I would have tried for a second silmaril but 0 herbs of rage when I got to the throne room so slaying only got to around +11 and I just went for the win.
It's not guaranteed to put you out of danger. It's a blink. It won't save you from ranged monsters (except maybe it will, but it's really random). It can land you next to a melee enemy you were trying to run away from. It can land you further in the unexplored territory. It probably won't help vs. ranged enemies. It damages you, which is not a positive thing, yes.
Going for multiple sils can be risky if you don't have multiple good weapons. You are guaranteed to have your weapon shatter while freeing either the 2nd or 3rd sil (it's random)
Where's the 3rd Silmaril /rlg/?
"It doesn't always work as intended" doesn't really count as bad in my books when it's practically free, and very few characters give a shit about 1-4 HP past the very early levels, but fine.
>He's still alive, though he had to abandon the gear.
A fate worse that death
I wasn't the guy calling it "really bad", for what it's worth. I just find it very situational. I remember once it saved me after I misplayed around a band of gnolls on like D:2, so it was nice. Then again, it could've just landed me next to them, but it didn't!
are you folks going to post to the ladder? You should! I know the devs love seeing people posting their game, as do the site regulars.
You don't need to make a forum account to do it, but if you choose to submit it with an email instead of an account, be forewarned that the email is made public in place of your username.
santa challenge? oh, i wish i knew i could participate...
p.s. just found this screen in my old folder
hah nice shot
Yeah it was a santa comp. It was fairly fun, though there was a bug. To make the comp savefile, the comp organizer had to debug-mode the character up to high enough level to wear the corpse, then debug-mode him back to level 1. But he kept the level ~45 experience penalty or whatever so leveling up was stupidly annoying.
Fortunately this comp was evaluated by uniques killed (if nobody won the game that is), so the level penalty was less important. It's still why I stopped after my first session of play though. There's enough 30-50 exp grind in PCB without starting with those penalties at level 1.
You do realize the most common spell in the game is also called 'blink', doesn't cost health, and takes 5 seconds of training to get to low fail rate?
Unless you're playing a formicid or wearing CPA with 5 int, Lugonu's blink is not praiseworthy.
Apparently I can throw silver chariot just far enough to hit this thing out of his sight range.
I'm not sure why, considering it is the heaviest of my two rapiers, but who knows.
Removing this in Zul won't remove my Demigod Mut, right?
Is this true
How good is angrist? Do I have to ID every fucking dagger or what?
I had a stealth archer build that took on the order of 100 tries (while using all my stat buff potions) to get the first sil off with a greatsword of melee humans (because the short sword I was using was not doing nearly enough damage), and the entire time Morgoth used ESP to kill my stealth, dug through walls and slowed me to fuck up my sprinting pillar dancing, and locked doors (which I had to burst with a freedom staff).
Angrist is not an OP weapon, but it has the sharpness property that lets it pierce armor. That's very useful in general, and specifically very useful when silcutting because of how thick the crown armor is.
To cut a sil, you need to do damage against [+0, 15d4] defenses for the first Sil, 25d4 for the second, and 30d4 for the 3rd. On either the 2nd or 3rd sil, your wielded weapon will break.
No gloves, unfortunately. If they benefit throwing, this would be one of the characters that could use them.
I have a whole playlist of 10-hour or similar things, but mostly I use them to play a bunch simultaneously and create a sort of chaos insanity white noise thing. Currently I've got loops of gangnam style, epic sax guy, you are a pirate, mormon jesus, nyan cat, woah-oh-oh highlander look, leek spin, puddi puddi, robot unicorn attack, mortal combat theme, katamari on the funk, i'm black yall, rock my pony, guile theme, link side jumping, taking the hobbits to isengard, the imperial march, interior crocodile alligator, the xx intro, and sad toy cats.
Not all at once of course, usually 3 to 7. You should try it.
Quest the sixth
And here's my reward. I have a feeling it's useful.
Thank fuck for the compass showing me where to go always for the next red dead redungeon.
The legendary gloves.
Too bad I'm a high-mage so I'll probably never be able to melee shit.
>Too bad I'm a high-mage so I'll probably never be able to melee shit.
my friend let me introduce you to the greatness of the poisoned needle, who can be mastered by every kind of class and has a 5% chance of instakilling every single monster (yes, wyrms included). With 100+ AC and a staff of healing, even you, yes YOU, puny mage with more MP than HP can do the conga!
Start taking dance lessons today!
>died of hunger on the overworld cause didn't notice I was hungry.
Anon I'm so sorry.
why do people use "scum" that sounds like a bad thing. I'm actively halving the time needed to grind, because you *need* to grind to win poschengband.
I'm just grinding more intelligently.
Now, slapping immortality on a stack of 99 armors and selling them for 10 million, yes. That is scumming.
I feel it man, I just like to listen to music while playing these games. I just don't like silence it's fuckin' weird.
Well I just want some specific music to listen to instead of the generic shit that they post half the time.
I would actually and that's just to silent for me mang.
Sounds pretty chill to me.
I'll look that up sometime sounds pretty good and for livestreams are cool to listen to but I like to watch them to.
>Scumming doesn't mean "something that is bad or exploitative".
...yes, anon. That is how it is used in the roguelike genre. Savescumming is the first thing that comes in my mind.
Take a loot for example at these pages with exploits
Basically "scumming" is a multipurpose verb used to describe actions that vary from exploiting to outright cheating.
That's fair, but I'd argue that the wyrm conga is exploitative, but not bad. Because you know, it's PCB. If you grinded it out the way god intended it'd be completely miserable.
Holy shit FAangband, calm your fucking tits. I'm just starting out here.
>tfw mages get identify at level 6
I just thought about something
You know how you get negative xp in FuryBand at some point. Im wondering if you carry enough heavy as fuck corpses, can your speed drop so low that it becomes positive?
you would need to get your chardump somehow, which may not be really viable with roguenex.us, alas
this is a little early, but ok
I'm playing a weaponsmith, should I extract it or keep it around?
Taking a break from shield master for a little bit.
This should be... interesting.
Aim of the game: lazy artifacts
wand of cloning + (elemental immunity) + elemental wyrm you're immune to
Morgoth, Plain Gold Ring, Unicorn of Order
the latter 2 are harder than the Serpent
Morgoth is easier than serpent, but yeah, it's going to be a ride if I get to that point.
I'm hoping to find a good ring or amulet of wizardry to make my magic not suck from laziness.
i meant it more in a general way
i like the flavour occasional art brings to a community such as this
so you know, if you frequent this general and happen to draw at all, draw some roguelike shit sometimes and we'll reward you with e-dicksucking
even if it's really bad
Please draw Corwin laying a Terrible blood curse on an unsuspecting PCB player.
I drew my last fofi with a shield and a vamp laj killing some nerd
How'd I do /rlg/?
Finally completed thieves guild.
Only took 5 tries.
Well they take a lot of shit from Zangband like Oberon and the Serpent which are based on those books.
Also the death curses are a big deal in the books too so it's fitting they'd be awful in the game as well.
I never noticed how beginner friendly SIl was to the player. Would of shit myself grinning if I had started playing roguelikes and it gave the congratulations for surviving the fire drake.
you need two of the same or two sources of immunity? Because if it's two of the same you're going to be fucked on the long run since they vary from -1 to -8 stats
huh, I thought we were talking about PCB for a second. Maybe you can stack very heavy corpses until you get plus speed, yes. Honestly nothing could be too weird in fury after that guy made the glass gas chambers.
"Roguelike" was included in TotalBiscuit's "5 Words I'd Like to See Retired from Game Discussion:
Camus used him and his situation as an analogy in his existentialist work "The Myth of Sisyphus"
Lazy archangel, patron of wastrels and lackwits.
My melee is non-existent, I'm hoping I can just spam spells forever until I find stat pots.
I want to play a rogue like because I think they look fun but after reading the pastebins in the OP i am no closer to deciding what to play. Please help.
He was using them to point out some games with the label roguelike that are similar, and then points out how many of them really aren't similar at all
Like BoI and Don't Starve
Later he specifically says that when you use roguelike he expects a game like say Angband
Play IVAN and learn how to suffer for the first time in your life.
Its pretty damn good, you even get summon ancient dragons
No lmao. I always go stealth Edain and make it to like 300-400ft before getting trapped in a web and obliterated by distended spiders.
Once I stop playing so carefully I just keep dying due to getting caught with my pants down
their real downside is that they can't be monks or rune knights. Healing sucks against the serpent, so hell need to grind for *healing without the conga (good luck grinding arena 80 with the babble around)
Well there's a pretty quick win at 16 hours and 7 *healing* used so it has to be pretty good.
Guess it's just a matter of gitting gud.
would you feed a newborn cheeseburgers, anon? No.
Don't tell him to play DCSS.
Nethack? Please god no you don't need to introduce him to bullshit deaths and the most horrible UI man has ever conceived. Dynahack would be a good one I guess. Angband too.
PCB? You can zap a pet with it and suddenly have 2 pets, which is exactly what you'd expect it to do.
You could summon an army of clones, or make a backup copy of your trusty steed to keep in a capture ball in case it dies.
Anyone have recommendations on how to powerlevel a lazy angel?
If I find a wand of cloning I'll probably start cloning ancient red dragons or something.
I never got into sil because the character creation had too much fiddly adjusting stats. I guess it gets better when you're used to the game and you just know what build you want to do, but when you're new to the game it's more effort than I'd like to make a new character after a splat.
The whole point is that "roguelike" as it's used today has very little meaning as a singular genre
He pretty implicitly says they aren't roguelikes in the stricter sense of the word
So in ADom I'm picking up strange resistances as intrinsics, 99% certain that I haven't eaten anything to give me these, but I've got petrification and death resistance intrinsic (what would even give me this?) and quite a few others. This has happened multiple times this game, it fees like everytime that I cast revelation to check, I've gotten another one in the interim somehow.
>I'll probably start cloning ancient red dragons or something.
do you get fire immunity or something? also, remember to put "clone" in your autopickup before you autodestroy it.
Powereleveling a thing with HP shittier than a yeek that does not have acid immunity like a yeek and that levels four times slower than a yeek is a problem.
Hounds, I guess? keep going up and down the main staircase in the forest and hope for light/shadow hounds mobs. That should bump you a few level, but your horrible xp penalty will make this thing impossible soon.
I wish cloning was more common, holy shit. Always check the black market to see if they're carrying a wand of cloning.
yeah but nobody TALKS about it.
>hydras and hounds in an open level
Fire hounds are a pain in the ass because they destroy trees, but other than them you can just stand somewhere surrounded by trees and they won't be able to see you without closing to melee range.
last time I checked lightining hounds and even cold hounds (not sure) could do the same exact thing, as with destroying everything you own unless you double resist.
What do people do then if they don't get to at least ~25 with killing hounds and shit, then finishing Orc, Angband 12 and getting the rod of recall and then killing dragons until 35-40?
I've found anything other to be tedious as shit.
I had to kite the hell out of 8 eleder vampire elites and a FUCKTON of undead hordes. it literally took me 40 minutes to clear the floor.
But damn doesn't this treasure fancy my autism.
>What do people do then if they don't get to at least ~25 with killing hounds and shit, then finishing Orc, Angband 12 and getting the rod of recall and then killing dragons until 35-40?
nothing. That is the most optimal way of leveling up.
yeah bragging rights and the fact that they are actually very strong. Note for example that combined they give immunity to the three elements that the serpent has auras of.
Ideally you get The Stick of Halfheart from Morgoth and use it against the Serpent (and everything else), without having to fight the other two before winning.
Better than orcs, I guess.
They also explode into money.
weaponmaster of clubs, I assume? Nah that's legit. get-daddys-weapon as weaponmaster is just fine. Sure you may die well before then, but it's nice to get 100% chance of your preferred Olympian artifact if/when you get there.
Can't decide on my weapon /rlg/
+23 to hit, damage for 8d5+5 (Big Punch w/ level 1 in maces)
+42 to hit, damage for 3d6+24 (Rolf's Companion w/ level 10 in axes and the shield bonus)
Dwarven Priest, so catching up the maces level won't be awful, but hardly super easy at this point either.
I'll be using the Rolf Shield for now regardless of the choice, but staying with the axe kind of commits me to the shield too.
I'm kind of invested in the Axe though simply because it let me two-shot the greater daemon.
hmm it's still okay, IIRC you'll get disenchantment resistance which is nice. Demigods are usually pretty solid, with the obvious downside of a large exp penalty.
a lot of that will depend on how many blows per round you end up getting wit each. Big Punch is very heavy so you may not be able to swing it many times per turn without super high str/dex.
i have a demigod of artemis archer who killed oberon in pcb but didn't dare to approach the serpent, she's alive and parked for more than a year too.. 99th lvl of angband;
but that's mostly because i cannot stand the idea of grinding consumables and the more so killing all the dangerous uniques, i already killed oberon before with a human archer who died to stray nodens trying to grind !healing, so i was there already
That's the other reason why it'd just feel wrong to ditch the axe already. Looking a gift horse in the mouth and all, especially given how shitty my weapons have been all game (Was using the Golden Gladius because it was the best option until I got teleport + control)
Good point, and the low weapon skill isn't doing it any favors in that department either. Into the Ogre Cave it goes.
pretty easy, especially for ranged characters, but for melee ones too, but annoying, your stuff will be corroded to death
i would go with the axe and the shiled
bonus classy points too for your dorf
if their waters get spoiled it interrupts the magical forces holding their body together
>a lot of that will depend on how many blows per round you end up getting wit each.
Er, ADOM doesn't have multiple blows per round.
Though I'd go with the axe anyway because of flavour. And it presumably has some bonuses on it, unlike big punch.
to grind the wilderness you should have lots and lots of ?teleport and ?phase door and use the junk equipment
it seems the magical forces are susceptible to the acidity of their water
biologically active poisons do nothing for they lack any bilogy while acid hurts
I can kill azog now, just need x99 phase door.
Thanks for suggesting this grinding strategy, anon.
Haha, fail rates.
Will dance for (jewelry) of wizardry with EZ spell.
Is that the mantle that surrounds you in stone walls?
If so (and if you are archmage, adventurer or an high magic character), you are gonna find it extremely useful for either resting or isolating targets.
Imagine if you had skipped the floor because you were too much of a pussy.
yeah also in the mountains near it. Most mountains can have dragons. Just make sure to fight them on open ground so their loot doesn't disappear after falling on impassible terrain
Stronghold, angband 12, orc, icky, lab, easy town quests gets you to around level 30.
Then I never really know where to go because it's either too dangerous or gives no exp. Oh, and you should do camelot for the unique's loot at some point.
Lazy is best personality, prove me wrong (hint: you can't)
Manabolt sucks dick with %30 fail rate, 4d6 punishment all the way.
Do all camelot knights reflect bolts, or just pendragon?
>android rune knight
Remember to take breaks, anon!
Was that the original android rune knight?
You know you'll start a new game tomorrow.
what's better to pick first in sil, sprinting (i already have flanking and dodging) or crowd fighting and then the ability to swap places with mobs
on the one hand these fucking intellegent enemies running from me drive me nuts, i waste a lot of time chasing them for low xp too... but if let them flee they return, and then, a lot of them are archers
on the other being cornered/surrounded is the main danger to die...
>priests and paladins and crypt creeps curse all my gear
>no remove curse in any towns
Cool stuff, shame about the fail rate and the fact everything and its mother resists confusion.
Not sure how I'm going to clear Camelot, since all my spells except BRAIN SMASH are bolts.
Don't even bother meleeing as a lazy angel.
Well that explains a lot. I had no idea what all this stuff about amberites, logrus, etc. The whole multiverse thing works with the weirdness in Poschengband like fighting Robin Hood or Godzilla.
Wondering the same. It did sound like a pain in the ass so I wouldn't blame him if he didn't complete it, though it'd be good for him to post the partially-unfucked code so someone else can have a swing without starting from scratch.
It won't compile for windows without a lot of massaging.
It's trying to make use of a whole bunch of stuff that isn't implemented in mingw32 and is implemented differently than the code expects in mingw-w64.
Stood back and realized it could be gotten working in a fraction of the time from inside of a debian VM, and that was where I left off for the night.
This staff makes manabolt a bit easier to cast (%25 as opposed to %30), but I think it's just the Wis bonus.
Bought a wand of acid ball at an unholy price. Does around 80 damage a pop, which is nice.
>The whole multiverse thing works with the weirdness in Poschengband like fighting Robin Hood or Godzilla
nice explaination, huh
also the amberite race has the ability to reset a level not leaving it (there is a such a spell in some magic school too) by 'shadow shifting', it's from the books too
anon, i told you that angel is all about melee and that their spells are mostly good for utility... except the lighting bolt ('punishment') early game, kek; their damage spells for the most part have a huge fail chance to be that useful... may be psycho spear later since it's useful well past the level at which you get it
angles evolve into pretty strong forms later
Yeah, I don't expect the spells to last me long. But devices seem pretty damn, hopefully I'll find a gravity/annihilation wand at some point.
I think i can hold out pretty well until I get a good weapon.
I might pick at it a little bit more tonight if my attention doesn't wander to other stuff, but I'm going to try actually compiling it from within a linux VM to see if it works at all before even trying to port it. 10 year old code, who knows if it even compiles natively anymore.
I always make a point of buying and storing some extras whenever I have the spare cash and few extras
angels are normally pretty good at melee, but lazy gives a 5% chance for each melee or shooting attack to miss for no reason. Pretty sure that's it though besides the flat level 1 personality malus which isn't thaaaat bad right?
No spear, unfortunately.
Hopefully I find the Spear of Destiny so I can live my Evangelion fanfiction dreams.
Suddenly, a pack of hill orcs in the middle of town!
Grishnakh is in there too.
