I put my physical smash 4 game while in emunand. I update the game via eshop. When I launch smash4 it still asks me to get the update. How do I play physical copy of smash 4 with updates? I spent too much time trying to figure it out.

Also it's great once you get it going anons, keep trucking. Make backup saves of your full SD before every (few) big steps and you shouldn't have too much to fear, just go back and redo it carefully.

Oh, my bad. Looks like the link I used to taken down. The rxtools back has a folder with a python script that fetches the firmware for you, so if you can't find it, you can use that one, hope that helps.

So I did everything up to installing some CIA on my 3ds but I was lacking some space, so I decided to delete my 3ds downloaded games from my SD card via my computer (I have a backup, I figured I'd be fine, and that I'd be able to re-download them from my updated Emunand if it didn't work out)

And so it turns out there was something in the Nintendo3ds folder that fucked up my CFW and everything, does anyone know what the fuck happened that fucked up? And what would be the easiest way to recover

To be honest you'd probably be better off just getting the .cia and updating it with eshop. I can confirm that it fully works online and you can install all the dlc for free too. And it all comes out to only around 1.5GB

I'm having the same issue although I used the Emunand9 homebrew to do so. Gonna paste my response before the thread moved:

So I'm done with the whole process for downgrading and the installing emunand/custom firmware on my New 3ds, but now it seems I ran into a snag. My emunand does not seem to have any of my games/fbi installed to it. The SD card definitely shows the games still being on the card and I know the Emunand backup worked because my Nintendo Network ID is present on my Emunand (along with my friends still being on my friends list, which means it had to be using the ID folder that contained all my games). The only thing that seems strange is that when looking at the partition in Disk Management, it shows the partition as unallocated.

Did I screw something up here? I feel like in order for the titles to show up I need to first sign into my Nintendo Network ID, but that requires me to update to do so. Is it okay to use the same sysUpdater used to downgrade to 9.2 to upgrade to 9.5 on my emunand or do I need another version? Or is that not going to fix my missing title problem?

There is a full DLC cia on 3dsiso (about 3.2 MEGABYTES because on-cart DLC jewtendo) that I installed with FBI and it gave me literally everything. I had to press A repeatedly for over a minute because of all the "you obtained" notifications.

I updated my MHX English patch and now the game wont start, it just stays on the Nintendo 3ds screen and never goes anywhere.

Hey guys, I know this thread must be filled to the brim with people trying to get the custom firmware working, however, I would like a little help. I just found out that the 3DS has been cracked, and I want to make sure I don't fuck this up to be honest. I currently have a spare 3DS in my possession and wish to try this out. It's an old 3DS with the firmware of 9.5.0-22u. What would be the best way to apply the CFW if I may ask? Do I follow the old way, or should I update to the latest version and then downgrade? Also I do need an external SD card right? What's a preferred size if I may ask since I'm assuming the games will load from the card itself? Thanks in advance.

I see that the guide says, for installing BigBlueMenu, that clicking health and safety opens CIA. Mine doesn't do that. Does that happen during the installation of BigBlueMenu?

After setting up CFW and everything, I think I'm ready to install CIAs of the games I want...my issue is that when I'm on emuNAND, I can't seem to get FBI/BigBlueMenu installed to the homescreen by running FBI through the homebrew launcher, so that's making me worried about installing games in the first place. FBI says the CIAs are installed and I'm overwriting them, so where the hell do I find them? Am I actually writing them to sysNAND somehow?

Hey, Macfag with the Japanese O3DS here. Got downgraded to 9.2, and had a few questions as I start up the rxTools portion of the retards' guide.

First off, pic related. Is there a way to get around the 'running the firmware_download.bat file' part of the guide? Or am I going to need to borrow a Windows machine / recode pic related to use Unix commands instead of DOS?

Second question is what does the guide mean when it says that unlinking the NANDs will affect DSiware and GBA VC games? Wouldn't it still work fine on SysNAND since that's running off of actual hardware? Or does the process of unlinking NANDs make it unusable in both?

Lastly, why have Anons recommended in the past to set up the console to boot to EmuNAND on start? Is it significantly more confusing/cumbersome to switch from SysNAND to EmuNAND otherwise?

Just a few questions, though the .bat file one is the main blocker for now.

I don't find it very cumbersome, and certainly less confusing. I don't turn off my 3DS very much so an extra 30 seconds on startup is not worth complaining about as I don't see it very often.

One question, now that I'm on 10.3 emunand will I have any problems playing mh4u from my cartridge? I'm way too afraid of losing my save so I would love some confirmation.

If it does, that's your old NAND running off your SD card, which is EmuNAND and what you should use to see all your games/saves, because it reads from the correct /Nintendo 3DS/ folder

To run emunand, you need a cfw set up, like rxtools or cakes (N3DS only)

2) Run firmware_download.bat and let it do it's thing
3) Place firmware.bin inside \FOR SD CARD ROOT\rxTools\sys\
4) Copy and Paste everything inside the "FOR SD CARD ROOT" into the root of the SD card
5) Put the SD card into your 3DS
6) Open Homebrew Launcher (Hold L when turning the 3DS on)

16) Rename the "boot.3dsx" on the SD card to "brew.3dsx"
Now place the "boot.3dsx" (from the zip you downloaded in step 1) into the root of your SD card.
17) Put the SD card back into the 3DS and hold L while you turn it on
18) Instead of the Homebrew Launcher you will now see the CTRBootManager. From here you can boot rxTools or Homebrew Launcher.
19) Select rxTools and hold L to enter the rxTools menu
20) Go to Advanced > Install FBI > emuNAND > Check TMD. Make note of the Region and the Version.
21) Turn the 3DS off and put the SD card back into the PC
22) Go to the "fbi_injection" folder you downloaded in step 1 and open the folder for your region.
23) Open the folder for your Version
24) Drag and drop "fbi_inject.app" and "fbi_inject.tmd" from that folder to the root of your SD card
25) Put the SD card in your 3DS and boot back into rxTools Menu (see steps 17-19)
26) Go to Advanced > Install FBI > emuNAND > Inject FBI.
27) Once it is finished, turn off the console and do steps 17 and 18
28) Select rxTools but do not hold the L button
28) You're done: You now have a linked EmuNAND.

Like I said, fuck FBI injection. Flash your old NAND.bin back into SysNAND via Gateway Launcher (press A while holding Up on Downgrade console) and get FBI on sysnand first via homemenuhax>pasta>hold homemenuhax trigger button to cancel coldboot>browserhax>FBI.3dsx>FBI.cia

then format emunand with emunand9 (back up files first) and then format sysnand with tinyformat

I don't understand what you mean. Does it even boot into rxTools EmuNAND? You don't see any of your games/saves unless you boot into the EmuNAND you formatted.

The few times I'm able to get sysUpdater to load, it now gives me the "unable to get cia information" when I hit Y. Before, I successfully installed the downgrade three times, but upon reboot my 3ds was soft-bricked (tried removing the SD card and it still gave an error on boot). O3DS didn't give me nearly this much trouble. Yes, I did make sure I downloaded the N3DS firmware

If it's still on your 3DS, then you're likely not fucked: The one you have on your SD already is probably still good, so keep that handy and back up your current EmuNAND with EMUNAND9/EmuNAND Tool if you can (Label it as the one you started with when anon was helping you so you know which it is)

I think both of your Nintendo 3DS folders are still in-tact, but your 3DSes don't want to read them.

Otherwise, you are fucked, and you cannot recover them, because even official nintendo relies on that folder for all your eShop games/saves.

Grab your original NAND.bin (or EmuNAND.bin_) backup and press Up while holding A on Downgrade Console in the gateway launcher menu to link your NANDs again

Get FBI on sysnand via menuhax>pastacfw>hold trigger button to prevent menuhax>browserhax>FBI.3dsx>install FBI.cia to sysnand

Format sysnand with tinyformat

Format your card to FAT32 via your computer. Google how to do that if you don't know

Rename the dump to NAND.bin, put it on SD root

Get starter.zip from https://smealum.github.io/ninjhax2/starter.zip and extract it to root too

Browserhax and set up menuhax.

Go to http://scmods.com/gateway/GW_ULTRA_3_6_2_BETA.zip and extract Launcher.dat to root (in public folder)

Enter the 3dsx.zip folder and merge the /3ds/ folder with the one on your root

In menuhax, launch GW.3dsx and hold Up when pressing A on downgrade console

When it's done, perform a Complete EmuNAND setup with EmuNAND9

Copy your Nintendo 3DS folder to root afterward and boot up (holding menuhax trigger to ignore it)

If your files are still there, then good: Use tinyformat to format sysnand (back up Nintendo 3DS folder, put it back when you're done), then set up RxTools/Cakes to boot into EmuNAND and you should have all your games/saves once you get RxTools/Cakes working

This is a lengthy process so expect this entire thing to take at least half an hour to do. I'm sure this will work, as long as you have the correct NAND.bin and truly have your old /Nintendo 3DS/ folder

Good luck. No really. That's where mine always soft-bricks. If it doesn't reboot after 10 minutes, you'll need to manually power-down and boot up again. If it doesn't come up, you'll need to power-down, eject your SD card, and boot up. If it still doesn't come up, you'll need to update back to 10.3 and start over. I'm on my 5th try.
