Where are you at? Do you have both Protectga and Shellga as well as the breakdowns? It's possible, even at R1, to take on MC2 battles handily or master them.

From my experience it's lack of mitigation that prevents you from tackling the most content. EXP can easily be gotten from reward eggs in events, and damage is easy because is Advance is everywhere now.

Nice. That much could keep you set for just Retaliate parties.

You could try drawing on Lightning's MC2 banners for Vanille's Wyrmfang if a group heal SB is nice for you. There's also Boon which is always a favorite. In terms of boosting SBs I'm not sure that any other banners before that have anything interesting.

Try to get Aerith soon, though, for obvious reasons.

Having Witch's Hat tips me off that you started earlier. Stuff's definitely doable, mind: I started a second save on Black Friday and managed to master Hojo's MC2 battle with just a Keepsake Knife. I had to use a mythril on Jenova DEATH in the boss rush, though.

Kain, WoL and Rydia have their MCs in the story dungeons (and Rydia is the only one who doesn't suck out of those) so don't pick them. Tifa is shit, Rinoa is pretty good and Quistis is mediocre. Sazh and Lightning will have their MCs in a few weeks so that leaves Rinoa as the only real option.

She's part of a race called the padjal who serve as the guardians of the Twelveswood (a bigass forest). She takes her responsibilities very seriously, but unlike her brother who's a strict traditionalist, she is willing to break the padjal's sacred traditions (such as teaching white magic to a non-padjal) when shit gets serious though it isn't always easy for her either. She really doesn't have much screen time, but I love her interactions with her brother: they're constantly butting heads and she's always calling him out on his bullshit and scolding him for being a little shithead, but she obviously cares deeply about him and forgives him without question even when fucks up.

Suggestions to change for exdeath? Hones are r2 for all the 4* skills. I'll need to reflect a thunder spell for mastery. Do I need protectga asap? I got vacuum waved 5 times before 50% my last attempt. I have ss2 and oerba's boon for soulbreaks.

Assuming this Ultimate Yunalesca is going to be about as hard as the one in the Big Bridge event in Japan, she's going to be a nightmare without a decent amount of synergy. The first two phases are pretty easy, but her aoe Holy is absurd and you can't reduce its damage with Magic Breakdown or Full Break. Even with Tyro and Tidus's BSSBs, I had to s/l a couple of times on that fight.

Protectga is highly recommend for the fight. I would remove armour breakdown and replace it with protectga.

Power break on Cloud would be good to reduce physical damage a bit. You don't really need to worry about the elemental requirements for mastery if you're using carbuncle as he'll most likely cast all three on himself.

So... For those of you who are interested in the FF9 Steam/Phone port, I have some information about it that hasn't been revealed yet.
1. Okay first off, no, it is not a remake in any sense of the word. There is NO new gameplay content to the game.
2. There's been some speculation that the game is just gonna be a shitty phone port on PC. That's backwards though. The game is being developed with PC in mind first, and then downscaled for phones.
3. The pre-battle panning (which was designed for loading originally) is here to stay. However, overall loading times and BATTLE SPEED have been greatly increased. The options menu now has 2 additional battle speed settings that go even faster than the PS1 version's max. The highest setting is about twice as fast as the PS1 version.
4. On PC, the game will support up to 1080p resolution but tbqh the game is meant to be displayed at 720p and will look shitty at 1080p. Them Square-quality PC ports.
5. People were worried about how huge the UI looks in the trailer, but that was how the phone UI looks. On the PC version there will be an option in the launcher for a Small UI (like the PS1 version) or Large UI (like you see in the trailer).
6. The game will have Achievements (and Steam Trading Cards). The Achievements for this are actually pretty good and IMO better than most of the Achievements in previous FF games on Steam. Obvious ones include progressing through the plot at various stages and separate ones for beating each of the optional bosses, but there's also ones for collecting every Key Item, and ones specifically for collecting the set of Coffee, the Stellazios, several revolving around Chocographs, for collecting all the Blue Magic, for learning every Ability, and so on. Of course, there is also one for collecting the Excalibur II.
7. There's a number of cheats that you can access via the launcher, including max level, max gil, and most notably, one to get 999 AP in every battle to quickly learn skills.

Yeah, I've been getting some really bad sequences of vacuum waves. Also, the last time I made it to phase2 with carbuncle up, Exdeath decided to cast aoe firaga/thundaga 4 times in a row, before I could get a medica off. I figure with orb conversion coming, this is as effective, if not moreso, than just refreshing on orbfest.

On that note, I'll have to see what I've got for GBO and whatnot for putting a mage team together. I have R3 firaja, R2 thunaja, R2 waterja, and R1 darkra right now, with probably 80-100 GBO to make and hone blizzaja. I think I could run the 5 offensive spells (or 4 + carbuncle), mental/magic/powerbreak, shellga and renewing cure to decent effect. The +ability uses could potentially compensate for any shitty hones I may have.

3* abilities are fine depending on the fight, but some ++ fights can be surprisingly brutal. Just recently I had to use a mythril on the ++ fight in VII event in Japan despite having 5* equipment for the entire party, a Hastega relic and Luneth with Lifesiphon and his SSB because I couldn't beat the boss before my SS2 RW uses ran out and the lack of good record materia was holding back my damage output. At that point I already had a handful of 4* abilities with alright hones too and a couple of my characters were at level 70+. It's really dumb and presumptuous to assume that just because you have a couple of 5* relics and a team of level 65 characters, every ++ fight is going to be a cakewalk.
