Let's go over the possibilities:

>Mage Pawn
Pros: your own buff- and healerbot, well equipped and skilled so you know you can rely on them
Cons: mages are boring as fuck, also robes look shit almost 99% of the time

>Warrior/Strider Pawn (not your own vocation)
Pros: Diversify gameplay. You have a use for those weapons you cannot use yourself
Cons: Can't train them vocation specific strats

>Warrior/Strider pawn (same as your vocation)
Pros: you're best buddies and double tag any enemy that crosses your path. He copies your strats and learns how to use his class to the fullest.
Cons: Somewhat samey playstyle in the group overall. Have to find good loot twice. Can't use any of the good equipment you find that's not for you and your pawns class.

REPOSTING FOR THOSE CURIOUS ABOUT INCLINATIONS:

Whether or not the pawn's AI is good depends on several factors:

>The two types of inclinations you give them.
>Their class.
>How you yourself play.

Pawns tend to copy what you do, so if you play as an aggressive melee character, consider making your pawn one, too. If you're playing as a caster, make sure your pawn is one as well. IIRC, they learn much faster if they share the same class as you, so consider changing your class to theirs temporarily.

If you want to change inclinations, then purchase some inclination elixirs from the man in yellow garb in that little wooden fortress area right outside of the fishing town. (I forgot its name.) They cost Rift Crystals, not gold, so be sure to remember that. There's one elixir that completely erases your pawns inclinations, basically making them neutral once again. The other elixirs give them a huge boost towards a certain inclination, adjusting their behavior.

Some inclinations are better for certain classes, and some inclinations are better off ignored altogether for many reasons. (I can go in-depth if you want.) Generally, these inclinations are good for pawns:

>Scather - Makes the pawn target the strongest enemies first.
>Mitigator - Makes the pawn target the weakest enemies first.
>Challenger - Makes the pawn target enemies using ranged weapons/magic.
>Utilitarian - Makes the pawn more inclined to use special strategies such as throwing items at enemies, utilizing skills that require more than one teammate (Such as the warrior skill that hoists an ally up into the air.), and also make them want to use curatives that restore HP for the entire group.
>Pioneer - Makes your pawn "fond of exploring", meaning that they will walk ahead of you rather than behind you.

All those inclinations I listed are good, but some classes prefer a certain combination. (At least, depending on how you want your pawn to act.) Inclinations you should avoid will be in the nest post. (1/2)

>Guardian - This is the worst possible inclination a pawn can have. It makes them act like a "guardian" to you-- they will stay at your side no matter what. While this might seem good, pawns with this inclination tend to do absolutely nothing EXCEPT for staying by your side. >Nexus - This is basically the same as guardian, except your pawns will focus more on your other pawns instead of you. Avoid this at all costs.
>Acquisitor - This one isn't as bad as Guardian/Nexus, but it's still very annoying. It makes your pawn pick up every item nearby, even in the midst of a fight. It's not a useful inclination at all.

Then there's the last inclination, Medicant. That one, if anything, is gimmicky. If a pawn has it as their inclination, they will prioritize healing. A mage pawn with this inclination will keep your party in top shape, and a pawn that lacks healing spells will use any curatives in their inventory. You can give one of your pawns a special shawl from the bald, rich man in Gransys and then give them this inclination. The effects of their curatives will be increased, and they will often use them as long as they have a healthy stash in their inventory. I'd only really give this inclination to a dedicated healer pawn, but as a secondary, not a primary, inclination.

Oh, and another thing I forgot to mention: Your pawn has a primary and secondary inclinations. The primary one is the way they will usually approach situations with, but the secondary inclination affects behavior, too.

Bestiary knowledge also determines how effective your pawn will be against certain enemies. Try doing everything you can to kill an enemy. That's how pawns learn to effectively deal with them in many situations.

I recommend a phys-based MK. Just rotate between Fighter (For STR and DEF.), Ranger (For Stamina.), and Warrior (For HP.). MK gets access to maces, which are pretty much slightly slower, but stronger than swords, and access to a wide variety of buffs for many different situations. They also like a lot of the passive augments that come from the classes I mentioned, so that's another good reason to try them out.

One thing most people don't know is Magick Archer actually has some scaling with MDef. Going Ranger is useful for stamina, but going pure sorcerer can turn you into an unkillable machine and drastically increase your utility.

Like that other anon said, it actually does a LOT compared to other games.

He also forgot about jogging speed. Lankets jog faster than manlets, though sprint speed is the same. Shorter characters are better climbers, but tall ones can jump and reach higher ledges. Tall = longer weapon reach, etc.

Anyway, height influences weight, but they are two separate stats that affects your character differently. Some people like to make a fatass pawn to function as a pack mule. Shorter/lighter characters may seem worse, but keep in mind that they don't deal any less damage, and regen stamina faster whilst are able to dodge enemy attacks more easily.

In regards of the looping I tried a few thing but it's a bit complicated to fix. That was decent damage against that enemy, which is a high defense animal. He could have done other things like climb up it to remove the helmet however that is a narrow pass and you risk getting thrown off the giant and down about a hundred feet. Then you have to walk back up, assuming you lived.

Also that thing is weak to magic but strong against physical attacks everywhere except the eye. Magic takes awhile to cast though, he was so far back his pawns didn't register the battle ocurring.
