What makes me laugh is people somehow think Griffith is outdated, yet no one has yet to explain how any work other than Griffith's is more complex in technique and profound in intellect than his let alone one past 1939

Wow France has been making cuck movies since 1964. How do we fix this country?
>>83860125
not an argument
What makes a film the greatest ever made. Because clearly thematic scope and expansive breadth of technique doesn't matter. Why do so many believe Griffith is an irrelevant technician. People throw Andrew Sarris's name around and even he considers Griffith a pantheon director, the one major thing Kael and him agreed on. All of the French New Wave directors pseuds love considered Griffith's films the greatest ever made.
>>83860129
It's too late for that.
>>83860129
They have the most top tier qts in their movies though.
It's not even a matter of silent films not being appreciated. People love Murnau, Fritz Lang, and Buster Keaton. But they more than likely don't even bother giving Griffith, Chaplin, or Stroheim the time of day. Even in today's latest appraisal of static shots and pseudo documentary shit, Griffith is still considered outdated because he had too many closeups, varying angles, tracking shots, and crosscutting. A man that used pioneered every technique, utilized every technique when appropriate and to its fullest is outdated.
I need a genuine answer as to why Keaton is even praised so much. He wasn't the best stuntman of the silent era and he barely directed any of the stuff he starred in, it was Malcolm St. Clair
>>83860745
his films made ppl laff
>>83862265
Harold Lloyd grossed the most at the box office. Technique-wise, Lloyd is superior due to his joke-a-second mantra. There is so much clouding the frame and multiple things happening within it that you have to pay attention to catch everything. Lloyd also made the transition to sound successfully and did Jerry Lewis before him
>>83862265
>his films made ppl laff

Doing a moving long take that lasted 12 years would be the only thing warranted of the slightest praise. Static ones with digital technology are merely happy accidents of economical filmmaking.
