I have a pretty high patience threshold so it didn't bother me as much, but it gets pretty rough at points. Who's portrait is that?

The entire world of Dougie Jones is a complete fantasy and has no connection to the rest of the world. It's so obvious to me that it actually makes me worry that some people don't understand this. The most important piece of evidence: Jade drops him off at a big building in the middle of the desert that's full of video games that give you money if you win them. That's as pure fantasy as it gets.

I know this is David Lynch so we're supposed to expect some weird stuff, but there just isn't anything like that in reality (not even the reality of Twin Peaks). Why haven't more people realized this weird location is an indication that Dougie's living in a dream?

I think there could be something strange here, how nobody except Jane seems to really acknowledge how strange Dougie is acting and the bizarre names of his family (Sonny Jim? Janey-E Jones?), but the evil shit with the casino managers is too grounded for this to be some Mulholland Drive-esque fantasy version of Vegas. It's just an exaggerated "Main Street USA" thing that's present in so many Lynch works but now set in the most amoral sounding city in the country

I think the movie is a lot more open than a binary about reality:fantasy, maybe that was a bad line. In MD the dreams/memories/time loops about the hitmen are informed a lot by her own guilt. It's a personal dream, and she and the dream scenes themselves become deeper once it's revealed they are fantasies.

The casino manager scene isn't tied to a specific character at all though. It's a brutal beating meant only to show the stakes the oblivious Dougie-Cooper has walked into.

Yes I would, because it's still a massive chunk of story and character development to be missing out on, not to mention all the lore that starts trickling in toward the end that starts explaining what the lodges are. If you really liked the show, you'd watch the whole thing just as a natural progression. Trying to rationalize why you should skip chunks of it this early on when you're not even past season 1 makes it obvious why you're really here.

Annie could've been a god tier character if she'd been around since the pilot, then she and Audrey could've had this Betty and Veronica sort of thing with Coop. The basic framework behind her character was pretty decent, but it was so horribly implemented in a way that made it obvious why she was really there that it completely destroyed any chances of her being a good character, let alone a good replacement for Audrey.
