Am I the only one who adores the Dougie scenes? I just think they're perfect, and I'd be happy to see a great deal more of it- I'd even watch all of the scenes condensed into a film. I think that it's interesting how the story of the original Dougie slowly comes- his fairly milqteqoast personality, the fact that he was probably suffering from depression, his long-suffering wife, the way that his colleagues seem to have grown used to his quirks etc. It helps that MachLachlan is a legitimately great actor, who is able to sell all three of his characters so easily. His portrayal of Cooper post-lodge kind of reminds me of Jacques Tati.

I'd also like to mention the fact that Lynch and his writers show themselves to be really great social satirists, in a way that's kind of forgotten in the days of Colbert etc.

I can understand the hate for this season. The Twin Peaks formula was always a bunch of interconnected characters, with the paranormal shit being thrown sporadically. Now it's completely reversed, we're basically following one character through a paranormal smorgasbord and sporadic parts are now the other characters, some of whom we're introduced once and never see again. If you haven't been delving into the lore to have some light grasp on what's going on, I can understand why you'd stop watching. And I can only imagine how difficult this season must be to jump into, for someone who's never watched the show. It's basically dedicated to the fans who are dedicated to the show. Like MIKE said, Cooper was tricked. An original and a doppelganger apparently aren't supposed to inhabit the real world at the same time, one must return before the other leaves. I think because the doppelganger has assumed Cooper's identity, the real Cooper reentering the real world has turned him into a blank slate because by "universal logic" Cooper already exists. But his memories are slowly coming back it seems, and then as MIKE said, one must die. I think the doppelganger knows he's in trouble and can't return to the black lodge now, which is why he's reassuring himself that BOB is still with him.

I just finished paragraph 5. All I have gotten so far is complaining about events happening that don't involve coffee or pie (donuts barely count). Real fans of the show are interested in the lore and characters and not any McGuffin plot from 25 years ago.

The entirety of Dougie's Adventures at Work was fantastic. I wasn't really feeling Dougie until that segment. Everything was funny, situations were set-up nicely (like the guy who covers up for Dougie only for him to call him a lier in front of everyone) and we got some development on Coop's return.
