Should a ranged operative (ghost) with pre-racial Dexterity 16 have pre-racial Constitution 14 to help them survive, or a pre-racial Intelligence 14 to assist with their skills? The character starts at 1st-level and will probably never see 2nd-level.

Hit Points are much more difficult to replenish than Stamina Points, and while Starfinder characters have plenty of Stamina Points at 2nd-level onwards, 1st-level still looks to be a "rusty dagger shanktown." A CR 1/3 space goblin from First Contact still deals 1d4 damage with its attacks, which can be dicey against an operative with only Constitution 10, right?

Resolve is the new death stat so max key ability score is probably the most important stat to have maxed for numerous reasons. Dex is AC, reflex, resolve, attack, some skills, and DC's for certain things.

That said I'd say each character has their role so if you need to be the skill wizard then you need int. Operative probably shouldn't be face tanking damage, especially with the largest multi attack later and default sniper rifle usage.
>>
>>54721568
Well, I'll assume you're human so you'd have 6SP/10HP at 10CON, 7SP/10HP at 12CON and 8SP/10HP at 14CON. So it doesn't really matter, I'd go with the Int.
>>
>>54721668
Yeah, that was me.

So how important are pilots going to be? Is your group fucked if no one picked the pilot theme, or a Dex class?

It is just me or is the Mechanic's Control Net really kinda mediocre? You have to divide up your mechanic level for it and both Exocortex and Drones really want the full value to stay competitive so you likely won't use the ability at all.

>Operative probably shouldn't be face tanking damage, especially with the largest multi attack later and default sniper rifle usage.

The problem with the operative's trick attack is that you must move (or choose not to move), and *then* make an attack. A ranged operative *cannot* shoot, then move into cover. That is why I worry that a ranged operative might not be as safe as one might otherwise assume for a ranged character.

>>54721701

>'pre-racial' is meaningless; point buy starts after you add your racial and theme bonus.

Pre-racial still matters in the sense that the only point-buy is a paltry 10.

In other words, if you are playing, say, an android operative, you are probably looking at:

A. Strength 10, Dexterity 18, Constitution 14, Intelligence 12, Wisdom 10, Charisma 8, with a +1 somewhere.

OR

B. Strength 10, Dexterity 18, Constitution 10, Intelligence 16, Wisdom 10, Charisma 8, with a +1 somewhere.

This is proving to be a difficult decision.

That problem can be fixed with the spring attack or shot on the run feats. Not optimal, but it's there. Also why wouldn't you move into cover then shoot?
>>
>>54721772
I'd go for the con, since you DO have other people to take up skills you don't have, and you'll still have at least 9, since you can't dump stats and the lowest int you'll get is 8. I really don't think the other party members can't pick up a bit of slack.

Feat prerequisites and base attack bonus prerequisites place Shot on the Run and Spring Attack well out of the reach of low-level operatives, let alone a 1st-level operative.

>Also why wouldn't you move into cover then shoot?
Presumably because that would make your own attacks suffer from cover.

iqdb (because it generates links) > saucenao (if I think it's porn) > google > yandex > saucenao (if I don't) > bingbing > image raider > tineye

>>
>>54721929
Oh nvm I'm dumb
>>
>>54721927
I mean, the aim is more rounded characters, I guess. It's not like /pgg/ isn't going to houserule that away and increase the point buy anyway.
>>
>>54721927

Not really. It's designed to make it less required to match the perfect race and theme with classes.

I'd have personally stripped stats from classes/themes (And just given the races another ability that's not stat related) but it looks like it might work.
>>
>>54721966
I mean if that's what they're going for then why have racial modifiers at all if you can't be better than someone because your racial average is just better
>>
>>54721721
How importants are spaceships going to be, though?

Is it like many other systems, where they're at most an afterthought in practice despite what the game advertises - an afterthought oft avoided like the plague by most groups?
>>
>>54722007
Well, there can be a 4 point difference between the 2. It makes it easier to max an ability score for a race with an affinity for the class than one that sucks naturally at it. Coming into the class with an 8 means all 10 points going to your key stat if you want it maxed. Coming in with 12 means 4 points to toss around somewhere else. There's still an opportunity cost to being a race that isn't great for a specific class.
>>
>>54721894
Your image has me planning to stay up all night for Leakanon to post weapons and armor so I can get Power Armor info.
>>
>>54722049
I mean I guess but it just doesn't make sense to me that there's no such thing as say a Vesk that's just plain stronger than Shirrin, because their racial average is higher and their curve isn't any taller.
>>
>>54722032
It'll depend largely on the campaign. If a GM likes ships, they'll feature them more heavily. If they don't, they won't. Some games might take place on stations or single planets. It's really dependent, so it's hard to give a meaningful answer.

>>54722062
It'll likely get houseruled or missed by GMs enough, but that's a fair criticism.
>>
>>54722062

It makes game reason, as it widens up the PC options. Otherwise you'll get 'X should not ever be Y class'.

I'd have preferred if they'd scrapped racial stats in general though (If you want a racial to be strong, give it a bonus to carrying capacity or an agile race some bonus move speed)

dumb feat idea time
>X times per day, before performing any action that would require a d20 roll, you can choose any number between 2 and 19
>If you do, that number now acts as 20 for the purpose of critical hits, feat activations and other such events, while the actual 20 loses them
>For everything else, the chosen number still counts as that number, with 20 only being the highest possible roll
>maybe some other luck related benefit idk
>>
>>54722116
Only works if you've a 20 crit range. Is this supposed to be for Starfinder? I don't know how crit range works there.
>>
>>54722062
You're stupid but I'll explain it to you. Race modifiers still matter if you want to push your optimization all the way, but it isn't crippling to play a role without the appropriate modifiers anymore due to how attributes work.

To hit 18 STR for say, a soldier, a Ysoki would have to invest all 10 points to make 18/12/10/12/10/10, disregarding themes. A Vesk would spend 6 points to have 18/10/12/8/10/10, which is a better spread due to distribution and gives him some extra points to work with. The Vesk is more optimized, but the Ysoki can still perform the role and have some small advantages due to his individual spread.

Also keeping in mind that scores 16 and lesser increase by 2, making yourself marginally weaker at certain ranges can give you a lot more versatility to work with. It's easy to justify 16 starting in things since you'll be caught up to an 18 start between 5 and 10, with better distribution on other scores.

>>
>>54722145
>Race modifiers still matter if you want to push your optimization all the way
That's not what I'm saying and I know about the math, I'm saying that it's weird how you have Vesk, on average much stronger than Shirrin, but there is no such thing as a Vesk who is simply stronger than ANY Shirrin, despite the fact that it's literally the same distribution curve but translated four units to the right.
>>
>>54722169
It only really works for 20 crit range, and it doesn't actually increase your crit range. It... does do weird things if you pick something low, though. A natural 20 is a hit. If you move that to 2, which would normally miss, you suddenly hit on anything that isn't a 1, even if you don't necessarily crit. It has potential to be very powerful if you just choose the highest number you can roll and still miss, since this now becomes a potential crit and a guaranteed hit, acting as Weapon Focus, in a way.
>>
>>54722145
>ysoki
>small advantages

Question on Resolve:
How limiting is it to class abilities and characters in general?

Is this a universal per-character combination of fate points and smites/day, or is it limited to recovering only truly special abilities and effects?
>>
>>54722198
Oh I see, in that case I was stupid then.

That is pretty weird yeah, hadn't thought about that. Though I gotta say that I much prefer this system to the one in Pathfinder. Simulationist is the worst design mindset.
>>
>>54722145
>but the Ysoki can still perform the role and have some small advantages due to his individual spread.
The Ysoki spread is almost strictly inferior, becaus you'd have 18 / 14 / 12 / 8 / 10 / 10 on the Vesk.
>>
>>54722214
Oh, actually, no. Well, it depends on the wording. If it counts as a 20 for critical hits, it may not count as a natural 20 for the sake of auto-hitting. In that case, it's a waste. It doesn't increase your chance of critting, so it's a waste of a feat.

Why, oh why do space goblins have superior point-buy to the core races?

Space goblins have +4 Dexterity and -1 Charisma. This means that a space goblin, say, operative can have Strength 10, Dexterity 18, Constitution 10, Intelligence 16, Wisdom 10, Charisma 10, which is actually a smidge better than the core races.

For that matter, a space goblin's racial abilities are on par with a halfling's, which are in turn superior to an ysoki's.

Since when were goblins of superior stock to core races?
>>
>>54722360
Aid another for AC at a range. Harrying fire is aid another for attack bonuses.

A reminder that the OP has more Starfinder information so you can stop wasting dumps on stuff like chargen that we already know about.
>>
>>54722452
If you have a good GM, you'll still be subject to the galactic-wide social contempt for Goblins wherever you go unless you do something incredible enough to warrent exception. If you have a shit GM, goblins are the master race for non-CHA classes (both of which suck anyways in Starfinder).
>>
>>54722452

Right. Thanks.

The mechanic is in a weird place with skills, it feels like it needed a few more class skills for options. Being Int primary and having only 8 class skills it means that most mechanics will have 'All of them' rather than being choices unless they want multiple professions as they get the +4 from 18 int.

Okay, guys. Guys. Friends. Buddies. Your peepers peeled and eyeholes open? Because I need to comment on this.

We've got this weapon, okay. It's big. It's heavy. It's held with two hands underhand like a minigun, and it fires a searing continual beam of raw destructive energy in a perfect line. Point at the thing you want to destroy. It's like a flamethrower, only with more DESTRUCTION.

A force field has no usage. It just lasts until you turn it back off.

An Armor Storm soldier can install it on their armor for half price by fitting it into their bonus armor slot. You can get the prismatic one for 500k instead of 1 million, and then just have it any time your power armor is on.

>Weren't they kind of like that before

Yes and no. The Elves of Kyonin are described as haughty and disdainful of outsiders, but not explicitly xenophobic. They just don't want Humans to see their settlements, and Queen Telandia Edasseril is trying to unify the Elven people (which is like herding cats) and make them more accepting of outsiders. The vast majority of Elves that live outside of Kyonin are explicitly passionate, chaotically-inclined lovers of civilization and other races.

But this? Anon... You must understand that Sovyrian never had reliable contact with the outside races. Kyonin \was always a colony to them where the degenerates rolled around with the soft-ears in alien dirt. So when The Gap happened and their memories were erased, Non-elves were ALREADY seen as "The Other," the "Them." Mild neglect and disdain turned into fear, and that fear became cold rage.

While the Elven State isn't going out to slaughter the soft-ears, I'm willing to bet we'll be seeing a lot of Terror Cells with funding that makes it way back to Sovyrian.

I'm confused as to what Multiweapon Fighting actually does in Starfinder. Is TWF a thing? Is this a reduction of full attack penalty simply for attacking with 2 weapons with no extra attacks? Will this be answered when leakanon drops Tactical Rules?

>>
>>54724325
Full attacks are two attacks from level 1, some features let you make more attacks but generally it's two attacks starting at a -4 penalty. So far with multiweapon fighting and the appropriate class feature you can bring it down to -2.
>>
>>54724325

Everyone can make 1 attack as a standard action or 2 attacks as a full round action (regardless of BAB).

A full attack imparts a -4 penalty on both attacks (But enemy AC scales in a way that this isn't a massive penalty)

How many weapons you're wielding doesn't change how many attacks you get to make, but the feat reduces the penalty when using multiple weapons to full attack instead of one weapon.

Lower penalties than normal full attacks. On the other hand, it doesn't really seem super worth it when non-pistols do significantly more damage and the penalty reduction isn't very impressive.

>>54724500
The -4 penalty applies to full attacking with anything, so TWF will give you more accurate full attacks. Problem is that you're getting smaller dice damage and less benefit from weapon specialization.
