How can i find Pillpitt on DhGate(or the other casters)??
Damn, that site is awfull if you need to find a specific seller
>>52153250
love it, please loot more.
>>52153299
I didn't do it man, it's my inspiration. I didn't do this either, but it's still cool
posting more orky vehicles for fun and profit
>>52153335
heres the finished version, youre welcome. I made it.
Wip shot, I need to add more variation to the skin tones to try and get some texture out of it, and the metal and fur are basically just basecoated at the moment.
Definitely recommend everyone try painting a bust at least once, nice change of pace compared to 28mm minis.
>>52153507
Looks cool, are you going to give him a goat eye?
Anons, what are your go-to colors for a basic Death Guard theme? I think I'll go for the HH scheme (almost white bodies, green shoulder pads, gold trims), cause the post-heresy one (all shit green) seems boring. I wanna go for base color -> dip -> dry brush since I don't have a lot of free time these days and I hate fielding unpainted minis, so I need a fast method.
I've found this recipe online:
Rakarth Flesh base + drybush Ulhuan Grey
and Castellan Green for the shoulder pads
Need advice on gear and models to use for four space marine captains.
One a terminator, one a jump pack marine and maybe one with a bike? The fourth is the master of the fleet and I need a static pose model with a cape, preferably.
What are good loadouts? I was thinking lightning claws or thuner hammer / Storm shield for the terminator and assault captains and plasma / power sword for the master of the fleet ( like a space pirate). What about the bike?
What's a good loadout for a chapter master?
Have this guy lying around and I want to give him something on his head. Some kind of hairdo or maybe a helmet. Any ideas?
Help a colour blind git out, are Crimson Fists just a deep bluelike Macragge Blueor actually a different colour?
Also can you spray Citadel base colours through a cheap airbrush?
>>52153794
Pompadour.
>>52153803
They are indeed a deep blue. And I'm pretty sure if you thin them a little, citadel paints work with most airbrushes.
>>52153824
Any cool modelling ideas for them? I'm actually thinking of just buying the sculpted shoulder pad kits from GW come payday.
Maybe do some low key "tacticool" by actually using the bags and pouches that come with marine kits.
>>52153308
That thing was finished a long time ago, here you go.
>>52153810
Was thinking something like this too.
Only laziness stands in the way of good pictures
>>52153739
Best way of doing DG quickly I've found is to undercoat white, give them a wash of 50/50 seraphim sepia and medium, then a white highlight. Gives them that nice ivory colour. Then Castellan green for shoulders and warplock bronze for the trim.
>>52153739
Ulthuan grey seems way too white for my taste. Would try a color more like zandri dust or khaki.
>>52153632
Thanks, and yup!
>>52154001
Could you please post some pics of that in action?
>>52154020
Pretty sure the idea was to drybrush tih ulthuan grey before dipping
>>52153803
Would use Kantor Blue instead of Macragge but yes, you can use them with an airbrush. They need a lot of thinning though, especially the base paints.
>>52154133
I would probably use Kantor blue but my local store doesn't have that and I'm not gonna wait a week or two before starting to paint.
>>52153447
superb anon.
i saw the very first pics and your result is stunning
>>52153507
Why someone would ever like a bust?
Serious question.
>>52154221
I guess if they like painting more than having models you can also use to play games.
Although I would use that as counts-as giant monster #3 from the Beastmen army book
>>52154221
They are great fun to paint, and look awesome on display.
I did not paint pic related. It was painted by meg maples.
>>52154086
Sure, It's the example colour scheme FW uses in their how to paint article on the 4 major traitor legions.
Gimme some tips for painting Warriors of Mayhem, /wip/. Shall I just look at pre-heresy Emp Children tutorials and paint silver trim instead of gold?
>>52154489
By the looks of it these should be a fair bit darker than Emperor's Children, so perhaps do all steps with one shade of purple darker?
Any tips on how to improve this?
Dumb question: could anyone help me identify what shade of paints were used on these models?

>>52154553
Highlights along the edges of the panels.
Highlights on the black.
Paint the gems.
Paint the rest of the metalics either silver or brass.
That's about it, I think.
>>52154561
Sorry i didnt have time to reply in the last thread, "yellow" parts are screaming skull with thin washes of seraphim sepia and agrax earthshade. Grays are just dawnstone with agrax earthshade washes. Blue is Stegadon scale green and highlights on it are a mix of stegadon scale green and screaming skull. I then washed the blues with a mix of Nuln Oil and Agrax eathshade. Metallics are Tin Bitz and Brass Scorpion with Ironbreaker as highlight, metallics are all washed with agrax.
>>52154553
Dude. People have been telling you what you could change to make your awful colour scheme less shit for, idk, 8 threads now and yet you keep posting the same pictures of your clown Wraithknight, that dollar store looking tank here and the rest.
WHY?
Sentinels for my renegade guard. The bases are raised because the models themselves are actually a touch shorter than the official models, so I figured a boost would make them fairer.
>>52154628
It would look better if you painted it purple like the rest of the body, it would blend in better
Also paint some eldar graphics on the hull
>>52154671
>blue is green
ugh
Me noggin 'urts
>>52154561
>>52154671
Oh and weathering:
Stirland mud and pigments, once varnished i drybrushed Mournfang brown to make gradient and highlighted with steel legion drab.
>>52154705
Yeah one thing i dont understand, the paint itself look like a middle ground of green and blue, but when i use it it turns to blue. Fucking magnets.
>>52154086
Not that guy, but my attempt at this came out as pic related.
>>52154621
Im asking for advice so that I can finish it better.
>>52154629
Thanks. How do you think it would look if I added more Screamer pink to it?
I was thinking of perhaps painting the panels on the "wings" of the falcon with that color to break up the purple a bit.
>>52154702
I see. I'll probably change them then.
As for Eldar graphics, I was thinking of either going with saim han style Chevrons or maybe with Altansar chain pattern.
>>52154699
For input. No need to be a dick.
>>52154786
That doesn't really scream Death Guard to me. More like faded Imperial Fists? Maybe it would look better if you paint the trims iron or whatnot.
>>52154699
THIS.
Wraithknight anon is nothing more than a shitposter at this point.
>>52154699
There's a clown wraithknight?
>>52154819
Completely agree. The problem was coating the entire thing in the wash rather than just doing the recesses, which removed te classic DG white look. This was the test model for my army, but I've since moved on to Dark Angels.
Dropped this in HHG last night and was going to wait until it was finished before posting here, but what the hell. Apologies for sideways phone photo.

neat, did you use ironbelchers or ogryns as the base?

Should I just not bother and make a basic rock for him to rest his foot on instead?
>>52155440
I would say rock, very few ork models match the quality of the newer sculpts and there's a good chance he'll look super dumb.
might've went over the top here but mostly for the sake of a learning experience. I think pigments are a thing I need to look into.

the dirt should no really exceed the bottom of the wolf decal on the sides.

>>52155711
A lot of the models you see are the FW staffers actual armies.
>>52155069
I'd say pin and superglue (since it is already painted). If you just use glue, you're only gluing paint to paint and it will come off. Hence the pins.

The main colors probably dont need to be repainted unless it feels out of place with the rest of your army. But you could probably punch it up a fair bit with some washes and highlighting. On the ork flesh, for instance, and the metallic bits. They look flat in the pics.
>>52157132
Hmmm, fair. thanks m8

You need more colors on it. As of now its just one blob of purple. Id suggest a secondary color, perhaps a couple of stripes or pattern.

I'd do fists, since it means you get to use all their decals and chapter specific bits
>>52158184
Is that scheme still canon in 40k? If so, perfect
>>52158235
Scheme for the first compagnie during heresy, in 40k the first become the black templar.
>>52158283
In Extermination it says it marks 'Veterans of the howling gyre catastrophe'. So not necessarily first company.
>>52154986
To me, it seems moat folks are just annoyed that it's not done and you've posted the same image repeatedly. Critique has been ignored, suggestions are maybe noted? I dunno, I'm not you.
The blending could be better, there are moldlines, but i like the colors you have going and want to see it finished rather than reposted in response to folks nagging.
Agree with above, too. Do your whatchacallit vehicle in a similar scheme as the knight and you should be good.
But please post progress on it, not repost stagnation from weeks ago. I'm pretty sure it's been well over a month now
>>52155942
Will give it a go. Thanks man.
Im about to buy a bulk load of DKOK guys to supplement what i already have, thing is, most of them are already painted and have a varnish coat. Does the same stripping methods work on varnish? Worth mentioning theyre all resin models, so dont wanna damage them.
>>52158351
Simple green it. Varnish can be difficult, but I find that scraping a few spots off let's the simple green get under it. You can, potentially, peel entire sections.of paint off. Warm water, not hot or cold, and an electric toothbrush will help a lot
>>52158442
I live in scandinavia so i cant get my hands on simple green, but thanks, ill try whatever method ive used so far and see if it works.

What are some basic tips, equipment or techniques that can really improve a begginers painting outside of thin your paints.
Also how much of a difference does primer make? I can't find any that's reasonably priced at my gaming stores.
>>52159277
Thx!
>>52159487
Buy the fucking primer.
>>52159487
>What are some basic tips, equipment or techniques that can really improve a begginers painting outside of thin your paints.
Research. Look up a few tutorials before you start doing stuff and lookl at reference images for the textures and materials you try to paint.
>Also how much of a difference does primer make?
The difference is paint rubbing off your models or not. Use it.
Second time airbrushing, really tried for smooth subtle transitions. Not sure if I should was the recesses or everything.
What do you guys think?
1/2
>>52159551
Wash the recesses.
Glaze everything.
>>52159487
If you thin your paints they are slightly transparent and dont stick too well. Using Primer gives the colour a Base to stick too and changes the way to colour looks applied (white primer shifts it brighter Black darker, grey is rather neutral.
I have bad experience with pure White Primer so id recommend Black and a little bit of white from the top to simulate Lighting before you even start painting.
Start small with simple infrantry models painting ~5 from start to finish. see what you dont like and try better on the next 5. after you painted 1-2 full Units."Reward" yourself with a nice small HQ Units trying to optimize the Scheme youve been working on and applying the knowledge gained painting them. Then Repeat. Its mostly about repetition practice and applying techniques your skill with come with it
>>52159531

>>52162272
ah figured as much, been having a hard time using the martian paint, doesnt crack that much or the whole base crumbles
>>52162410
Power Axes with a Cog symbol are a symbol of status, rank and authority within the Mechanicus.
Personally, I don't give a fuck what you do, but you keep claiming it's an Archmagos despite it not looking like a Magos at all, so whatever, keep building your chaos dreadnought. I mean Magos.
>>52162470
Yeah it can be a bit hit and miss. You really have to layer it on thick to get a decent cracking, but then you run the risk of it just flaking off the base.
>>52162486
It's a WIP, of course it's not gonna look finished when only the main body is half assembled so far. And the Rod of Office with its skull knob is just as much of a status symbol as a Power Axe is, which is exactly what the mace will be built to represent (with most likely a cog halo on the skull or something similar).

greenstuff and a rolling pin if you dont want to make them all individually
Any one else painting a model they absolutely despise right now? I'm painting the Mancubus from Doom and I want to kill myself rather than paint it. It's covered in an immense amount of detail but none of it is interesting. It's like taking a really detailed model and then flattening all of it so it's just bland and plates upon plates upon plates.
How do you guys get through models you don't want to paint but need to? I've resorted to putting on crappy modern horror films just so I have an excuse to look up when the spooky moments start and can take a break.

cut out a plasticard circle. Cut it in two parts. Glue them down with a small divide between them.
Not the best pic but I've made progress on this guy.
I'm gonna be painting up the weapon next, i'm thinking about trying to make it bright red blending up to orange along the blade. If I do this do you guys think I should make the handle red too or just leave it normal looking?
>>52164310
i give these a look, thanks
>>52163889
Throw some rivets on there, or make some welds so it is obvious how they are attached and that will actually be perfect.
Update for you guys:

>>52162074

>>52165183
That's a tricky question. I'd say, if you can pull it off, hinging the jaw and face separately and making it flap open on both sides would be the best solution.
If you're not confident about its stability or if you'll get good hinges for that, I'd say just go for the ram and play it safe. The actual perfect way would be turning the underside of that front compartment into a ramp that opens up with the Jaw in front like an actual mouth opening while the face remains in place but that might be asking too much.
>>52165290
that might actually be the best way to do it since i can hinge the bottom panel and have an extending ramp sitting in the mouth, without having all the fiddly work of having overlapping hinged panels.
i cant do any more today, but keep an eye out tomorrow or the day after
>>52159829
how did you convert the Rhino? I'm planning on making a Thousand Sons army.
>>52165278
Sure thing, bud.
The head is a Hellbrute Waist and a Hellbrute Head. The torso and hip are from a Kastelan Robot. The upper arms are Kastellan thighs. Hands/lowe arm are the front portion of the Kataphron Breacher Arc Claws while the shoulder plating is their front armor.
The chest plates also consist of Kataphron parts, namely their track armor, another belly armor and 2 of their under-gun arms.
The legs are Ironstrider legs, armored with various plates from their own set and the Kastelan Robots, with Track armor from the Breachers serving as hip armor (and to cover the hip joint). The feet are Killa Kan feet A.
Not pictured here but still present is the original Kastelan backpack cut off the torso and replaced with a bigger one made of the middle third of a Centurion's back and 2 of the Kataphron Breacher main gun-mounts, one on each side of it.
The underslung Flamer on one arm is from the Tartaros Terminators.

You could always varnish/seal whatever part of the model you're gonna put the tape on. There are also liquid masks you can put on that rubs off with a rubber eraser when the paintings done.
Someone gave me advice here yesterday to thin my paints to a milk consistency, thankyou so much.
You have revolutionized my life
Built a Deathwatch Captain with a Xenophase blade, storm shield, and shoulder-backpack mounted Grav Pistol.
Gotta clean heavily and base him and then time to paint.
Trying to prep for making some green stuff cloaks and tabards and shit. Any tips?
Read the tutorial on that From the Warp blog suggesting cardstock to form the shape of the cloak. Can I get that stuff in any stationary or arts & crafts shop? Same for a Plasticard plate to roll the green stuff out, or could I just use an oiled-up plastic cutting board usually used for cooking?
Also, do the same rules for making those cloaks apply no matter the actual size of the cloak? Was considering to give a Dreadnought a shoulder tabard/cloak and that would be considerably larger than a regular old Space Marine back.

Thin some paint, try some glaze medium. I don't into airbrushing myself, but I'm fairly sure that it's achievable with the airbrush.

>>52168748

Most videos and guides skip over them to save time. It's the line that forms when two pieces of a mold meet and excess material spills out. They look like shit if you don't remove them. It's really not hard. Just scrape the majority away with a sharp knife then sand down the remainder.
>>52168748
No, it actually IS a meme to waste newbies time.

>>52168850

This is just the first time I've ever wanted to git gud at modelling. I have a very shittily painted/modelled Orks army, and I want to do my Ironjawz right.

How can you have a painted army of orks and not know what a mold line looks like? Jesus christ.
>>52168850
Hey now, ease up. We can have fun but acting like a nigger only makes you twice as dumb as one.
>>52168843
Take your xacto knife and hold it perpendicular to the area with the mold line. Carefully move it lateral along he line until the area is flush. Some mold lines are actually well hidden and don't need to be removed (such as most joining areas on legs or arm joints that are deeply recessed and invisible after painting).
>>52168875
>He doesn't take the time to clean ALL the mold lines on his models, even the between the legs ones

>>52168875
How can I tell what is a mold line, and what is simply the armor? The armor of the Megaboss is extremely bumpy and angular. It looks just like areas that I'm supposed to highlight, as opposed to scrape off.
>>52168748
after
>>52168901
Mold lines are going to be a line that wraps around the entire surface it travels. You'll find it. Worst case scenario, just paint it and trim it with worn armor colors/raw metal.
>>52168896
>>52168904
Thanks for the demonstration. But that line is so very obvious. I don't know how to identify what should be scraped and what shouldn't.
>>52168813
The moulds GW uses to manufacture their minis have 2 halves. If the two halves do not come together seamlessly (which is practically impossible irl) there will be a slightly raised area along the line where they came together.
Use a hobby/exacto knife to scrape it off, especially if you drybrush your minis to highlight them.
>>52168910
We can point you in the right direction, and that's about it. Spoonfeeding you basic rules of modelling after being explained once is not gonna happen. We aren't here to hold your hand.
>>52168843
>Where else on my model might this be?
Take a look at the images of the sprues, the mold lines will be where the two parts of the mold are joined together.
GW's gotten good at masking mold lines by placing them on places where there will be a natural crease or ridge. However, an easy place to look would be the fingers, or indeed any weapons.
>>52168917
>>52168922

>tfw sometimes I dont even bother to scrap off moldlines if its in an awkward position/Im afraid of cutting up the model
>>52168978

Alright thanks guys. I decided to try scraping all the mold lines off my Gargant. Think I got em all.
Are the citadel files worth getting?
I know GW's hobby tools are overpriced but I can't find any good files in other local stores (any files I do find are meant for rougher materials like stone) and when I look for them online the combination of "file" and "plastic" shows me plastic binders.
Are they good enough to hide those scars from where you cut off the sprues?
>>52169003
Get needle files from any local hardware store. The cost almost nothing.
>>52169003
Needle files are what you should be looking for. Most hardware stores will have them, if not online stores.
most of GW's hobby tools are of a fine enough quality, but overpriced
Aight, guys. Question.
I've been focusing on THINNING MY PAINTS(tm), but I've encountered a problem - The paint seems to be almost too thin, if that's a thing? The pigment's there, and it flows, but it feels like too much of the thinned paint flows off the brush at once and overwhelms details, so I have to quickly dab some off with a piece of paper towel or the brush.
Am I doing the right thing, overthinning or just autistic?
>>52169096
too thin
>>52169110
That was my working hypothesis. Guess I'll just have to keep trying until I figure out how to get the right consistency.
Cheers, anon! You've helped me improve mytau.

Retributor gold with two partially thinned coats, wash with reikland fleshshade and let dry for an hour, highlight with liberator gold, thin thighlight of auric gold, then a final highlight set of storm host silver; if you want a sharper edge do a very light highlight of runefang steel afterward.
>>52169202

half those steps are unnecessary
>>52169003
those are generics rebranded. I have a set not from GW and they've lasted me years
Using Vallejo colours, what is the best colours to make the Alpha Legion colour scheme?
>>52169224
yeah only Duncan goes over the fleshade with auric first, then highlights with liberator, and only uses stormhost on the sharpest corners. Makes sense since auric isn't that good for edge highlights as its very transparent.
