General Discussion

You don't have to following these guidelines, it's just a suggestion, just post some content so other anons get to know you.
This is a meet-up board after all.

This isn't exactly a rate thread but if that is truly what you seek OP will deliver. R8 others if you're into it.
Let's try to be civil, last couple threads were pretty good.

I make my own shit on Soundcloud. It's been taking off recently so that's a good thing. I'm into just about everything, but I really like vapormeme and good electronic music.

Reminiscing about high school, when me and my friends would blast music with speakers in one of my friends backpack. They mainly played their music, I would just put on Deftones every once in a while.

I'm only half way through it but so far the beats are getting a little underwhelming, but knowing how this guy seems his albums I know it's going to pick up, but so far I can feel the isolation/tortured influence this guys going for. This shit is tight. It's dark. I can feel the story he's trying to tell.

I'm in the same boat as you.

Last job was tossin' shit in the deep fryer for 6 hours. Fuck that shit. Never again. then it would get super busy and I would forget how many orders I Would have to put down. I'd keep asking, "what was that last order" get yelled at, feel like shit, stress out, throw the shit in the deep fryer then stand there and stare at it untill it floats, take it out, put it on a plate. rinse and repeat.

Job before was cutting grass, but I was only a temporary employee. I'd love to cut grass again, but then winter comes and I'm fucked with nothing. Just like Roofing too. fun job, it just sucks balls in the winter and I'm scared of heights.

So I'm lookin for something manual labor thats all year round. But if I don't find anything soon its probably back to the dish pit, where I can atleast be stoned when I work.

Fuck life.

Maybe I can get a job at the record store...but working cash seems so fucking boring...atleast I'd be able to listen to music all day...fuck

I hope we pull through anon.

My last job was pretty cool. I was a graphic designer for Discovery Channel, but it was a timed contract gig. I could have been there longer but they couldn't justify having another designer after that point.

I graduated last spring and I desperately need a job because my sister and her family are moving out which means I have to find another place to live or pay a lot more for rent. It's bad enough that's she's taking all the furniture including my bed (i literally have to sleep on the floor now).

I suffer from really bad anxiety and depression. I don't know what I'm gonna do if I don't find a job by the end of next month.

your situation sounds worse then mine.

know all about anxiety and depression. Been to the mental hospital several times. Been pumped with meds. taken my own drugs. Gotten over it pretty well over the last year.

I usually slay interviews though, all mental issues aside. Just getting one set up has been a bitch. Once I renew my birth certificate and sin number I can send a resume to a staffing company in town that I hear gets people lots of jobs. You should see if you have any local staffing companies or employment counselors who can help you find jobs.

anyways. I'm flat broke. still live with the parents so I don't have to worry about bills but I feel like such a free loader. Can't even go out and have fun. Selling a bunch of my shit next week so I can get some magic mushrooms. Haven't tripped in 2 years. Kind of nervous, but maybe the medicine will set me on some kind of new path where I don't give a fuck about what I do anymore and just do it, or who I am forced to be around and just tolerate peoples simple shit....but most importantly, trip the fuck out and make some more art to sell, like the one I drew here. Only better.
>>
>>23299142
Yeah, my staffing agent was supposed to find me this specific job two weeks ago, but i haven't heard from her since. I never reach out to staffing agencies anyway. They always find me somehow. They obviously see great potential in me, but still can't convince employers that I'm even worthy of an interview. I fucking hate myself desu senpai.

Local bar/restaurant downtown in my city. I could easily work shifts monday through thursday since it was usually dead those days, but fridays and saturdays were always complete shit shows. Then they hired another guy when we already had a full staff which cut my hours in half and I was working like, 2-3 shifts a week which was complete bullshit. Then they would train me like, once one week on the grill or stove top and except me to remember it a week later doing it once.

In short. Working in kitchens sucks. Unless its day prep. I can cut vegetables peel potatoes and bread/pound chicken cutlets all day long.

the job is legit for socializing. if it weren't for me starting again recently I'd probably be too weird to talk here rn tb.h

>>
>>23299237
yeah, i dunno shit about the situation.

definitely no nursery around here...just grow houses...which are illegal as fuck.

I knew of this schizophrenic dealer that would bug out and if you showed up to his place asking for a specific amount he would just let you grab a handful of whatever you could hold and leave..still having to pay of course, just getting, way more then you wanted.....I met him way later when he was on meds...so...I never got to experience myself...

But one time I got a random one time hook up, I waited all day texting back and forth with this guy telling me I had to wait untill he was done his homework and when I finally met him he just gave me the stuff for free and said sorry about the trouble.

I love weed.

it was like I was a human god, there was society, there was the sun which was a great god - and then I realized time was the biggest god

Dmt just felt like a legit awake dream where I was blasting through a tunnel till I hit the light on the other side and everyone around me who was doing it with me wasn't their anymore lol

I used pretty poor opsec but in the end they can't hit you with suspicion and most my packs came In so I was never worried, also was addicted to Xanax and klonopin for a month which helped me overcome social anxiety but left me with a deep love for benzos to this day same with smoking coke on foilys

>>
>>23299390
I've heard someone say you're always alone on your dmt trip, is that true

as a rule, I don't like to talk about spirituality on soc but if everything is god's will, then god is basically nature. aa humans gain control of nature/the world/the universe etc, humans are becoming god
god imo is basically unconscious, it's conscious life (humans) that are god's consciousness - and it's in the processes of coming to power
>>
>>23299409
Honestly we share a lot of the same views id love to chat more and yes that's very true unlike acid and mushrooms once you exhale that last rip of dmt you are catapulted into a dream like state and like a dream everything and everyone around is changed/moving/twisting or just not there all together. Don't expect to see mechanical gnomes or any of that bullshit or you will be let down(like I was my first few times lol)

hey y'all koreanon reporting
sorry for dropping out last 2 threads, been busy un-neeting with the new job at goodwill. Gotta leave for work in half an hour but at least today's only a 5hr shift.

>doing
Just finished some anti-gravity banana oatmeal. What'd y'all eat for breakfast?

>watching
Also just finished watching all the episodes of Erased so far. Anyone else following that anime? Two more days till the new episode. I'm going to die of anticipation by then.

>listening
my coworkers are trying to turn me onto death metal so they made me listen to Devourment, Disgorged and Cock & Ball Torture. -_- I was like WHY. Some of it was kinda cool musically, but I felt like I was listening to some edgy 15yo's ipod. Made me go back to Gorguts and Nails though. I feel like I understand why people love metal, but I can't listen to it often or else I start feeling depressed. Do any metalheads here get that feel?

Lately I've been trying to listen to more jazz but I always go back to Wayne Shorter instead of branching out. I'm trying to learn to solo over this song, which is my all-time fav:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3uToglQMREM

I suck at following chord changes though. I have jazz class tomorrow and I think the teacher's trying to get me to solo on the songs she picked, none of which I really like that much. (Not that I could even solo over them.) I think it's because I played a few of those songs back in high school and I didn't like the teacher. Idk I'm just glad to be back into playing, but nervous and insecure about my own playing. I can't stop thinking about whether I'm out of tune whenever I'm playing. I feel like the only way for me to feel comfortable is to woodshed a couple of hours a day at least, but goddamn I suck at daily routines. I wanted to work out this morning but I felt so sluggish. Reminds me I need to call my try calling my psychiatrist again to start antidepressants but he didn't return my last call. Ugh. I need a pick me up. [/rant]

Restaurant prolly is pretty smart, I´ll just buy some champagner for after that to get drunk instead of something spontaneus.... or maybe only the alcohol part and a self made cake... do chicks dig self made cakes as gifts? Im broke as shit.

I've always looked at compliments pertaining to my intelligence as hollow.
Either out of pity or some kind of motivation to be better.
From either side of the spectrum. People I view as intelligent or people I view as generally uninteresting, it never felt genuine. Could be my inner dialogue telling me that

my thoughts are slaughtered by the limitations of linguistics and undertones of grammar and those that make it out of my mouth or inscribed usually trail off the path of coherence that they took in my head or get destroyed in conflict with other passing thoughts
if anyone processes the results of the resulting trite* as wise, i just assume that the person is using my words as catalyst for their own thoughts and then concluding that their thoughts are wise (do they ever not), and then by their extension, mine must also be

*surely the desecrated thoughts that leave my mouth aren't as coherent to another as the thoughts in their own head, only a relative idiot would think that i am actually wise based on puzzle pieces that fall through my lips

this i feel is entirely irrelevant but i feel most capable of continuing to develop an understanding for myself when i write down my thoughts rather than solely thinking my thoughts
if i continue doing this i hope one day that these ramblings will become refined, and my words might carry the meanings that i prescribed to them in my thoughts

i've lately been wondering why i'm so afraid of being seen to act under pretence, when i'm rather just making an attempt to best explain the workings of my consciousness (though it's hard to explain something that you don't understand)

i'm somewhat busy and if you're like me then you like to think on things:
why are we (i may be projecting, this may just be me (or a part thereof)) reluctant to come forth to others on the topic of the inner workings of ourselves?

>>23300710
when there's not much to overcome there's little effort needed to constantly study or read

>Then again I'm sure I'm also and egomaniac with an inferiority complex.
Probably but youre still right, verbal communication is obviously a limit, especially the english language isnt really know for its beauty or expressionism, I have to admit that I find german to be a way more beautiful language if used correctly. But thats another point anyways, the use of language. Im pretty sure I could express myself in a way that is satisfying for myself using the english language but I just dont have the capability. I often use extremes in my language even though I dont think in those extremes, I already regret writing "genius" in my earlier post for example because thats too much of the afromentioned.
Besides to the general discussion about compliments regarding your ebin brain powers:
The main problem is that I made the experience that people dont tell me Im smart when I think that I said something interesting or relevant but when I say something that just is barely out of the range of their understanding but does sound right. Thats why faggots in the upper economical classes get away with sounding smart just by throwing around latin words.
Wiseness or that shit isnt measurable anyways. If I can talk well but I have no feeling for art while somebody else doesnt know shit about politics but can express themselves beautifully through culture and still bring across a message, is that really compareable?
>Doing shit together
Yeah but not with my gf, we dont really fit together that well, shes way to shy. I need somebody to tell me clearly what she/he wants or I will end up doing nothing because I fear to bore/hurt the person. But I liked to do spontaneos shit with my old Hooligan friends, that was fun.
>Zach Hill
Watching him play live makes me believe that he thinks of the stage as a theatrical stage, he seems to be really invested in his body movements and the general "story" of his presentation as well as in the music itself.

yeah, i did have an inclination that fearing the label of pretentiousness was nothing dissimilar to just fearing being called a fucking moron
it may be that a person is only pretentious (or appears so unwillingly) when talking about things that they don't really understand, so their sentences lose coherence and this difference is attributed to pretentiousness rather than ignorance
and, of course, there's bigger fear of being called out as an idiot when you're talking about something that you know little about (even if other people are also ignorant in the field), so i suppose it follows that fear of labelled pretence is usually fear of being insulted while you're already aware of your own failings

>>
>>23300820
I've only ever been called pretencious when discussing things I enjoy, obviously if something interests me I'm going to find the best way to explain it. That's when my diction lands me the label of "lel hipster feg". We both share the same fears man, it's an extension of our egos, nothing more. People are all too worried about the things going on in their own lives to allocate any memory to a conversation they've had with us once. I still fear it, because the bar I've set for myself is in the realm of unattainable perfection. So any comments or criticism only fuel my defeatism.

We'd probably get along very well or hate each other irl, friend.

>>23300772
I wish I had the experience of knowing two languages. All three of us share the same intellectual fears and short comings, We're the kind of people who give off a a vibe of apathy, but we care. At least that's what I've been picking up on this conversation. I've never found vocabulary and intelligence to be synonymous.

Wisdom is not measurable objectively, nothing is measure objectively outside of collective objectivity.
People really need to break free from the prison of absolutes, it's much nicer here in the I have no fucking idea what's going on realm.

Ive never actually been called pretentious irl before, only online. And if I would be called that I wouldnt give a shit. Thats one fear I dont share with you two, I really dont care if people think Im smart or stupid besides the fact that I like the respect that Im getting for being percieved as smart, but it could come from any other source aswell and I would be golden.
>We're the kind of people who give off a a vibe of apathy, but we care.
I think you phrased that beautifully and its very fitting towards my whole life, I care a lot about shit but I rather not express that irl because Im afraid of exposing myself. My friends didnt even knew about my current gf until we were dating for two months for example just because they didnt ask if I had one and I just didnt want to mention it because that would open up a disucssion about me and my personality which I hate when it may actually have an effect on me (irl).
>>23300912

Really you cant figure out yourself without outside help especially because youre 18, dont overestimate yourself. We, as both 18 year olds, are still into puberty and not at peace with ourselfs. Good phase to gather knowledge and try to figure out what you like and dislike. Bad phase for self actualization and self realization because there is no rigid self yet.

The keyword is habit, when you fall into the grips of hedonism you find a lot about yourself, you come across that 6 year old child crying for his mother who still exists in the depth of your subconscious. Decay is a constant.

So we went and looked for her after class and found out who but I never even seen her before, so I was ok whatever just want to find out who she is and if true. So I went to her and she like someone likes you oooh and wants to go out with me. I was so much confucius, even more so when she said his name, can't remember his name, and I was dude that's a dude's name. dude just mess around and have fun with it. It'll probably get you somewhere. The sexy sax man Careless Whisper thing is bretty f00n. Thrift Shop is one I used to mess around with. My favorite head is Coltrane - Resolution. That one's pretty easy and sounds amazing. Oh yeah I also learned some of the stuff from the Cowboy Bebop soundtracks and some TMV melodies I really loved like the guitar melody at the beginning of Take The Veil.

A few months ago, I was writing out heads in a really shitty way but it cemented them in my brain. I wrote the note name and placed each one higher/lower and closer/farther depending on how the songs went. It was pretty quick since I jotted them all in an old notebook. Sometimes it still helps when I can't remember that well. I also just sorta "collect" tunes that I've learned by writing them in a note on my phone so it feels like tangible progress and I can put the starting note and the key of the song in parentheses. DO IT JP-SAN. BE A SEXY SAX MAN.

Yas, I love open world/sandbox games, like Elder Scrolls, Fallout, GTA, Minecraft, also some Strategy games, like Total War series, playing hotseat with friends currently.

it's weird how one moment in our lives can have a ripple effect on the rest of it. i remember growing up with frank sinatra, johnny cash, fleetwood mac and woody guthrie and always feeling safe. what instrument do you favor, and how do you make your music? do you write your own, if so what kind of stuff do you write about?

and as for myself, my biggest aspiration in life is to always keep learning, to do something to make a difference in other peoples' lives, to take control of my life. i grew up with a lot of violence/abuse and lost a lot of family to homicide/suicide (grew up in crack town central in alabama), so i'm going for forensic biochemistry and criminal justice to try to help other people that have to go through what i did. cliche, but i have a feeling i'm doing the right thing.

Honestly if my Tax return wasn't already allocated out to guitar pedals and potentially a new guitar I would try and save up for a sax, I always get that notion that I might be too old to learn a new instrument, or lack the patience, I'm still trying to explore new sounds on the guitar.

I'm a little surprised I haven't retained any of my music theory, I originally learned violin, piano, and sax reading sheet music, but taught myself the guitar using tabs.

>There's something bittersweet about finishing a book you've invested so much time and emotion into
Yeah I'm actually dreading getting to the end of this book. I've developed such an unhealthy emotional attachment to the main character. kek. That's how it was for me with Dune, I loved that book so much, Frank Herbert managed to create a sci/fi universe that actually feels lived in, the character development is surreal, I can't imagine he didn't pour fragments of himself into those characters, they felt so real. Although I'm sure as an artist you gain your inspirations from life experiences and friends and family, shit like that. He's just done it the best out of the books I've read.

As for the heart broken comment, nothing too dramatic. As I said, I'm military. Dated a girl I was with in Virginia, then after a few months she got sent to Japan while I stayed stateside in New England. Long distance dating for a year, then she ended it. In spite of the distance it was easily the best relationship I'd ever had. She's extraordinarily talented and still killing it. I'm doing my thing, plodding along, improving slowly but surely, although plenty of work ahead.

You have a heartbreak story? Sorry if you already posted it, I'm multitasking, just glancing at this every few minutes.

Probably not going to play the new FF, not enough time. I'd rather be outside during my free time here anyway. Might buy a PS4 for the FF7 remake though. Not sure when it's releasing, but that's going to be killer.

As far as Katamari music, couldn't tell you off the top of my head, although the opening theme for Katamari forever is definitely an earworm. Is the soundtrack available? I may have to pick it up.

pretty much, haha, there's only so much you can do when you're sick so you have to allow yourself some moments of weakness. nothing wrong with that. sorry you have to deal with the pain/flu in general though, i wouldn't wish that on anyone.

have you tried a wet compress on your forehead and around the back of your neck/shoulders? that would help with me a bit, also drinking juice can help you keep some energy when you can't keep other things down.

>>23304840
nah, you're not being vain, this board needs more content, badly.
i always find it sad that so many of the threads on here are nothing but pointless dick/hookup threads that go nowhere, i've seen a lot of pretty cool threads get over looked in lieu of a nude

>>23304855
i've been trying to think of some myself but it's hard when a lot of people only want to come to /soc/ for a quick ego boost. trying to think of how to integrate that with threads can be pretty tough, especially when it seems like /soc/ is split 50/50 with people that just want to post their pictures/find nudes versus the people that would rather talk. si appreciate when i see people make an effort to post different, unusual threads

Played some CS:GO. I don't really like that game though. Got some friend invites for playing well. I downloaded some maps from the "most recent" portion of the workshop and gave constructive feedback to the creators. They all seemed pretty delighted about it

A friend suggested that we could take up learning a language together. He suggested Old Norse and Old English, but both are apparently hard to find decent books on. He linked me the Cambridge Latin Course books, which looked interesting. Might try that this summer.
