So you know when you've done something in routine for years and then one day an anomaly breaks that? Because of a fucking misaligned d-ring.

Meanwhile I can get aux light kits which integrate fully with the bikes, brakes, daylight sensor, high beam/low beam, and is programmable using the bikes own controls.

>>17756981
I don't see what's wrong with just putting a big fucking light on it and wiring up a new switch separate from the main harness, or putting it on the same switch as the regular high beam.

>>17756995
Because it's infinitely easier to work with as a home mechanic using readily available generic parts and you don't need that level of light control for anything but showing off to your friends

You don't have to add new controls either. Just use existing switches. It's not hard. Properly installed switches do not carry the load, they trigger relays and can trigger more than one relay.

>>
>>17757007
How is that meant to be a bad thing? There are very simple rules to follow so it's nearly impossible to fuck up and works fine, albeit strangley with minor fuckups, unlike cuckbus which can be thrown off and become inoperational by something as simple as using the "wrong" bulbs that would have still worked in a regular system.

Also, your shit is insanely expensive for shit as simple as adding lights.

>>17757017
External functionality is a concern, and one separate from canbus. you can do plenty fancy shit with a traditional harness and fusebox system, just have the computers remote and close to the powered component, thereby making them easy to replace, add, or even... add to another bike!

How expensive and recent the internal wiring is of little consequence, until it breaks or needs to be modified/gutted for transplants and parts.

I guess BMW bikes are now leasemobiles meant to be owned as bone stock for a year and then traded in for the next model after two years

inb4 comparing this to carbs when EFI is as simple to deal with as a fucking blinker
>>
As someone working with canbus at a professional level I can say I fucking hate the system, but it is nice to work with.

>>
>>17757041
Canbus repair is as simple as any other repair. Bad wire somewhere making a light go out or whatever? Redo the connection. The solid state electronics themselves are unlikely to fail, but if they do, they can not be repaired unless you

A: take the time to go through the entire complex circuit (nobody does this) and hope to god you can source that one bad chip or faulty resistor, or that it's just an easy to spot blown capacitor
B: buy new electronics (triple digits in parts)

The only real disadvantages are that you need a fuse block for everything. You have to take your time and do a lot of routing through the entire bike instead of stuffing everything behind the front fairing in 15 mintues with a relay soldered to a bare spot on the low beam bulbs connector and a big fat wire with a fuse holder running straight to the battery. That would make the canbus system flip out.

Have a look at your laws, Royal Enfields are reliable and pretty much haven't changed their design much from the shit they used to produce in WW2. They are legal for learners all throughout Australia.

Basically British standards, using Indian labour. Its a win-win and you get a durable, easy to tinker with bike with many available spare parts and accessories for a very low for any comparable vehicles (Well maybe not the Chinese knockoff brands)

Cars were built so that even the weak could become adventurers and travelers. Keeping them safe from the elements and letting them cover large distances with little effort. Everything about them screams "SAFE"

Motorcycles, on the other hand, thrust you back into the world and all of it's dangers. From thunderstorms to shitty road conditions and it's up to you weather you survive it or not.

Motorcycles are for the strong, cars are for the weak. That feeling you are experiencing is the call to greatness

So real talk right now

Do modern bikes (as in 2016 and upward) with ~80 hp feel as good acceleration and handling wise as bikes from 2004-2008 with ~100hp?
>>
>>17757645
no

hell no

80hp bikes are exclusively cheap beginner shit now with garbage frames and heavy shit steel boxes for swingarms
>>
>>17757645
Most 80hp bikes now are heavy as fuck and have a very linear, boring power band

So no
>>
>>17757645
No. And the reason is invasive electronics. ABS is fine, not the rest.
>>
>>17757645
Define what you think good means.
Under most circumstances you'd never notice any new fangled traction control riding on pavement. The actual throttle response isn't going to be any different, its not like fly by wire systems are exponentially faster now. Aside from just a couple high end bikes theres nothing out there with a radically new suspension.
You're still just dealing with an engine and transmission for the majority of ride characteristics apart from the suspension and tires.
>>
>>17757650
most still manage to weigh under 195 kg wet though, like the mt07

>>17757653
what would you describe as an exciting powerband (no snark)?

>>17757654
I think most bikes in that range don't even have any more electrics than ABS and maybe an alarmsystem
>>
>>17757635
It's funny, to drive a car today you must wear a seatbelt, it must be full of airbags, it must be full of crumple zones, it must have body work shaped to protect peds and they are more and more full of electronics that literaly drive the thing for you.

To ride the biggest badest cock rocket you can buy you must wear one of these.

Those characteristics don't really rely on any electronic systems. Cornering is all about the wheel base, fork geometry, rider position. A good motor and gear box will always feel fast and responsive throughout. Things haven't changed much on the consumer market over the past 10 years.

The trickling down of bleeding edge race tech to consumer bikes is pretty slow. Besides when it comes to computational models of frame flexing and how it affects ride quality, they aren't done at street speeds. Riding on a street you have a magnitude lower forces to contend with than on a superbike track, so there isn't a huge motivating factor to bring that to the consumer.

CANBUS also exists to reduce manufacturer cost. Since most bikers barely use their machines, they'll be long out of warranty when problems crop up so that's not an issue.
Modern riders don't work on their own machines so bikes need not be designed for owner servicing. Owners should pay a mechanic like myself and stick to mods like beaded seat cushions and anime stickers, which I'll also install (for money). Eventually motorcycles should be sealed electric units welded shut and with automated data links (Onstar on steroids) for complete factory and law enforcement monitoring, update flashes and troubleshooting. As Germany proves, complete bureaucratic control of society is a universal good. A TASER net could prevent unlawful modification by simultaneously shocking chassis intruders and frying the ECU. Police department coordination should regulate ECU replacement. Advanced electronic ride-by-wire could provide enhanced safety within anti-hooning parameters and detect hooning via cameras plus blackbox data retention and streaming to Traffic Informatics Fusion Centers.

Cultural enrichment buses prove total government control of driving, riding, bicycle and pedestrian traffic necessary. Think of the children!

Two strokes are exempt from displacement shaming as a universal rule. Even a 125cc two stroke is faster than a 600cc four stroke.

These. Youtube videos are helpful but you have to be able to sort out bullshit from gud, which is why the listed resources are best.

I don't recommend non-factory manuals unless no factory books are available.

Choose a name to enhance his career and social prospects. Name pets stupid shit.

What if the aftermarket pipes are a factory option from the OEM? I know BMW does this with akrapovic and the 2017 s1000r

Your reaction is normal. Cars are horrible to work on compared to bikes (and trucks).

Ride on. You got enlightenment early.

Cars are comfy to work on. They are crude and simple.
>>
>>17758424
That's bikes. It's an engine held up by a minimalist metal oval with everything else bolted to either the engine or the metal oval.
>>
>>17758424
I'm a mechanic and unless you only work on ancient shit cars are neither crude nor simple compared to motorcycles. Modern car engine compartments were designed for ease of assembly, not maintenance.

I like getting paid to work on cars, but the owners dry any tears of exasperation with their delicious money. OTOH there are no similarly complex bikes, not even bloated touring pigs.

Show us a simple, crude car made in the last ten years.

>tfw you buy a cruiser but spend your time looking for dirt roads

I love this little turd but I can't rip it down the serious trails without smashing it to bits. I'm a month into ownership and yet I'm still dreaming of an affair with a TW200.

Fug me, I may just go full retard and scrambler this thing
