Checked with the camp site, they have a small restaurant on site that serves breakfast and dinner; we will just find lunch out around the touge.
I made sure that they would have space for our group (about 15) all three days. They have over six acres of land, so it wouldn't have been an issue anyways, but I wanted to make sure.
If you are a cuck and don't want to bring a tent and camp, there are cabins you can rent, but that's an independent thing and you need to make a reservation on your own.
They also have plenty of space for baikus

I took a california superbike course yesterday
>>
>>17293109
why did you do that when you have the infinite wealth of knowledge that is /dbt/
>>
Hey /DBT/,

This is a long shot, but maybe I can find some help. The previous owner of my bike fucked up the right fairing. I didn't realize it til I tried to take it off to replace the clutch cable. But two tabs that screw into the frame are missing, he had it rigged up somehow so it was held on with just the pressure from the other fairings.

I've got it held together with the other bolts and some duct tape and it's holding on alright, but I'd like to fix it properly. Do any of y'all know where I can get just the right fairing for an 06-08 Ninja 650. Red would be ideal, but I could paint match a different color one if needed.

Willing to pay a reasonable price for it. Just don't wanna ride around with my bike held together with duct tape.

Thought about going for a naked bike, but buying and mounting a headlight and cluster could be pretty costly.

Rode her up to the folks place to help move two loads of raiload ties (*ugh*), heading home and decided to take a left two turns early. 326 miles, multiple crossings of the St. Croix and a Dairy Queen dinner later, I made it home.

>>17293192
I don't know about burgerland but a decent bike costs about 1500/2000, then you have to count all the gear and insurance. For the gear I'd say at least 150 for the helmet then it depends if you buy new or used gear, with 300 you can get a decent used leather jacket and pants, at least 100 for the boots and about that much for the gloves. Can't tell about burgerland insurance.

Do your math.

How do you guys deal with traffic lights that won't change for you? These are always somewhat busy intersections so it'd be extremely dangerous to run a red light and most don't even have crosswalks so I can't force it to change.
Just the other day I was waiting to take a left turn at an intersection, "left turn on green arrow only", and it was separate from the straight thru and right turn lights. I waited a couple long cycles, it wouldn't change. I said fuck it and just went straight when the cars next to me got a green light.
This really fucks with me because there are intersections one after another, so I'm trapped going straight forever unless there happens to be a car turning left.
I'm afraid of barging my way through a red light and dying or having a cop shoot a rope up my ass.

I get this problem a lot in the Netherlands. I avoid certain junctions, and sometimes I have to stop exactly on the sensors in an awkward spot and jump up and down a few times. You can also try lowering your kickstand to trigger it.
>>
>>17294051
Put a pair of little magnets on your bash plate.
Sensors are activated by electromagnetism so a little magnet will seem like a truck to them.
>>
>>17294315
I usually do at least 140 but I go as far as 170.
It depends on the traffic and the wind. Ad the turns obviously.

The crocifisso ATTRACTS the skid demon, if you ask me.

Are you coming to SEM next month? I still haven't found a job and haven't emailed the organizer but I'm definitely gonna hit the camp at least, even if I don't sleep there.

Just after I got it back from the stealership, 2012 ER6n, was used by the bike shop as a demo bike. Mileage was nice and low and it was in a fair condition for a fair price and I've since repaared some of the cosmetic issues.

Does the job, just not sure if its the bike for me, I still miss my Speed Four and will always regret selling it.

Been looking at the BMW F800st's but have heard lots and lots of issues regarding the belt drive, shredding teeth , fucked rear wheel bearings, all sorts of final drive issues that it's put me off, just looking for a nice, solid and reliable shaft drive bike thats also not dull as dishwater.

Stepdad has a Pan Euro from 1993 and never had a single issue to this day, getting tricky to find the old 1100's in good condition nowadays around here though.

Anyone got any input on the BMW R1100s or those engines? Looking for reliability as the bike is my only transport.
>>
>>17294051
Police have told me that if i am sitting at a traffic light for more than a few minutes and it has not changed then it will not change because the magnetic sensor can not see the bike so just go through the light.

Got finished with the test ride, couldn't get on an Africa twin, it was booked full for the whole day. Got to try out a crf250 Rallye, cbr500r, nc750x DCT and a Fury. I actually liked the fury the most just because of the "boomer cool" vibe you get from it. DCT is weird but I could get used to it, the crf would be really good around town and the windshield was quite nice but it would need some stiffer suspension for me (245lbs), and the cbr500r was was really nice handling and power wise but my ass hurt afterwards which I wasn't expecting since it was only a 25 minute test ride. All in all a fun afternoon.

Also saw a niggabusa.

Well this isn't off to a good start...curious now though, I always thought BMW's were well engineered machines but the more and more I read into certain models i'm seeing the same "oh its a great bike as long as you fix A, change B, swap the C for this or that, replace the D and don't forget to check if E, F and G were done on the recall/warranty as they are prone to die, other than those small issues, all good".

So far all the ER6n has given me is a dead radiator fan, which seemed odd for this mileage and age but luckily some guy was breaking a 2014 one so snagged a new fan just intime for the few weeks of "hot weather" here in the UK.

Traffic sensors are generally based on induction. Electromagnetic fields are involved, but they detect the movement of a metal object through the field they generate. Putting a magnet on the bike isn't going to do anything. They can be recalibrated to correctly detect motorcycles, but good luck getting them to do it. Since I started riding a few weeks ago, I've ended up having to go through the red light on the corner next to my home a half a dozen times.

Look for the little lines if it's a "smart" light. Pull up right on top of it and that usually does it.

If it doesn't happen to trip, the law is 3 minutes and you're good to go where I live. If it's a busy enough intersection someone will pull up behind me and trigger it. If it's a small enough intersection I check for cops and then go whenever.

>Why are you wanting to replace your KX?
It's an MX bike. I only do woods riding.
Even with a 13oz FWW, retarded ignition and Gnarly pipe the hit is waay too much. I want tractable power.
The clutch pull sucks, even with a brand new basket and plates and ASV lever. I want a 1 finger clutch.
The brakes front and rear are shit even with a 2007 CRF450 front master.
The suspension is rock hard and needs to be revalved for woods riding anyways.

Basically so many small things I just wanna get rid of it and get something that fits the bill already.
What I really want is a Beta Xtrainer, or maybe a 200XC-W, smaller and lighter would be great, don't really need more power.
I can't get any 2T newer than 2002 without giving up riding June 1st to Oct 1st though, and a 250 4T is anemic as fuck, and anything bigger is tall and heavy.

Haven't been able to get on the 300 for a couple of weeks. Needs new indicators and associated hardware as all the rear fender plastic is fucked when I went up some horrible hillclimbs and binned it.
Also one of the subframe welds has a small crack in it so when tax time rolls around I'll be getting it fixed.

Standard dirt bike stuff really. Should probably get a spare electric starter and I might do a top end rebuild since I can't remember when it was done last.

So my Dad brought home this beat to shit 1993 Honda Goldwing GL1500 Aspencade that he bought for $700 that he intends for me to ride as my first bike. Can I strip down that year of Goldwing, or do I have to ride an 800 pound fully loaded touring bike as a commuter?
>>
>>17296018
They can if the plug is hot enough to make the fuel combust without sparking, there is a vid on youtube of a ktm that was basically stuck running wide open lying on the ground because the guy couldnt shut it off
>>
>>17295987
>bike overheats when you just sit there unnecessarily, easily fixed by just turning bike off when you're going to be stationary for a length of time as it was not designed to idle stationary.
>fundemental part of the bike simply fails because it was poorly made

I'm pretty sure which of those most people would prefer.

>>17295889
Yeah that's right. The earlier 200s were on the smaller frame from the 125. I think when they redesigned the frame for 2008+ models the 200 got moves up to a bigger chassis.

The big bore KTMs were rather conservative in power, probably because they knew having more power didn't mean going faster in a dirt bike. The 300 barely made more power than the 250 and the 525 barely made more power than the 450.

Unless you're a proficient rider it will probably overheat in tighter trails as well from the low speed.
>estart fails
>still have kick start just like the yamaha
>Yamaha 2 strokes never even had the option of estart to begin with
>>
>>17296086
>paying for a poorly designed bike is okay because there is a backup

Whats the point of the weight, cost, and complexity of an estart if it doesn't work anyway.

Sounds like Yamaha got it right not even bothering to waste the time and increase the cost of the bike in the first place.
>>
>>17295826
Maybe you should stop looking at meme stroke engines
>>
>>17296040
It's a six year old bike and it still slowly cranks. I think that's pretty good for a starter that's the size of my fist that's exposed to all the stuff I ride through.

Also overheating fixed by installing thermo fans. Fuck turning it off everytime you stopped to check out obstacles/lines up hills.
>>
>>17296099
Except ktms cost no more and weigh no more than Yamaha's while offering the extra option. If you don't like it you can remove it.

you're trying to reduce the hit on a type of engine that hits. If you want a linear powerband a 4 stroke is the correct answer.

here's my starting budget sheet. tl;dr: $4500 total (3k for bike + MSF, clothes, some extras, license, registration, first insurance)

this sheet might be a tad fucky because i'm still reworking how i want to handle cases like "things I budgeted for but then decided I didn't want to buy until later so I can use that money for something else" but it's definitely fine for ballpark figures. I'm in TX if it matters. Also I have very little clue about insurance yet so take that with a grain of salt. You can definitely go cheaper on the bike and still get something quite rideable; I'm hoping to get one for 2.5k.

in retrospect, probably not the best decision - probably could have found a cover for like 50 for sure. the tank bag was super nice though, converted into a backpack, big enough for helmet, several transparent pouches for gps/phone/map, etc. bought both from a guy that i bought a bunch of other stuff from and honestly with my autism i decided it was probably healthier to just do something without thinking too hard about it. both were reasonably marked down from retail and good condition.

>>17296224
i like it
and yeah i guess, probably
i just got to wondering while i was walking around cycle gear "if i spend 50 less on a jacket and 70 more on gloves, how much does that reduce my budget for boots, if i adjust all remaining costs proportionally to the total?" and then it was game over

One of the final steps to my year long road trip is complete, sold my truck today.

Bills are all paid, I got enough dosh now from the sale in my bank account to float me for at least a year. Packed in the job. Bikes now back at the dealership to get safetied. 98% of my posessions are packed in rubbermaid containers and moved into storage. Still waiting on my passport to arrive and I've gotta go buy some saddlebags, make a sleeping roll, get a small laptop... then gone.

Excited to see eastern Canada, really excited to cross the border and head to the southern states.
>>
>>17295604
well, it was partially because his right leg was fucked from an earlier crash and couldn't use the brake pedal, so he had a mod to control his rear brake with the left hand. Pretty good chance rider error contributed to the bad situation as he was trying to grab a handful of clutch and hit the brake too.
>>
>>17296323
>southern states
Post route. The south is meh at best.
>>
>>17296339

No route, east, south, west, north. That's the generally idea. I've got family in Ellijay, Georgia I'd like to visit. I'd like to see those picturesque vermont towns with the covered bridges, I want to see Texas, Hollywood... I want to make sure before I die I see as much of North America as possible.

The general idea was to start the trip by heading to Canadas east coast, doubleback and celebrate Canada Day on Parliament hill, head down to the states, see as much as I can, finish the ride by heading north along the west coast and then ride up through British Columbia and then onwards to the Yukon to have a drink at Diamond Tooth Gerties gambling house.

In the end I'll just go wherever I like though.

Good plan. I've done most of the east coast except Florida and imo there an obvious route down.

Cross the border into Maine if that's your plan, meander through New Hampshire and Vermont, the wilderness is cool.
The rest of the east coast is pretty populous, so embrace the urban-ness and check out Boston, NYC and Philly, they're all cool cities for different reasons. Basically nothing worth seeing but those cities until you get down to Washington DC. I wouldn't go there but you might want to. From there I'd hop on Skyline Drive in Virginia, take that all the way to the Blue Ridge Parkway, and take that all the way to the Tail of the Dragon. After that go down to your senpai in Georgia. I'd check out Florida after that, but I've never been there. Mississippi, Arkansas and Alabama all suck, just go to New Orleans and then head for Texas, another state I've yet to visit. Be careful in Northern Mexico if you do it, shit is legit dangerous, like turn up in 7 trash bags in Tijuana for no reason dangerous. The rest I've heard is awesome and you can live like a king for like $5/day.

I'd highly recommend turning north and heading into Colorado, then going back west through Utah, both of those states are surreal. Northern NV is a wasteland of salt flats and rolling hills of nothing, so I would turn south again and go out the bottom corner of UT and through Las Vegas to get to Cali. Go to LA if you desire or skip it, no one likes it there, not even the people who live there. Then you can just go up Route 1 all the way back to Canada, but Big Sur is closed for a long ass time due to land slides, so when you have to hop off that I'd do some of the mountain passes in the national forests of Cali, then head back to the coast around the bay area. Come visit me in San Fransco breh. Route 1 north of the bay is meh, so I'd just meander up to Portland, then meander up to Canada.

There's no internal gearbox reduction, unlike what you find in ICE bikes. The overall gearing on that bike is actually higher than the first few gears on normal bikes.
>the front is fuckhueg to save money on having a proper dual disc setup
That's not how brakes work. Having more rotors doesn't improve stopping power or even feel. Having a larger rotor does improve mechanical advantage and thus stopping power.
