I have had my Dainese Carbon Cover ST's for like 3 years now. The thumb pad on the right hand ripped and Dainese will fix it for free, but I can use my phone now so I'm not going to get it fixed. Everything else is basically mint, can recommend. Maybe A* will fix your gloves too.
>>
>>17289622
Pretty sure A* just has a 1 year warranty on them and the gloves are like 4 years old now. They served their purpose well enough and have been through lots of rain, get soaked with sweat constantly here in the TX summers, and have been cleaned/bleached many times so I think they held up about as well as can be expected.

I'll definitely check out Dainese gloves when I go shopping for some new ones though. I moved back to a rural area from the city so the closest good motorcycle gear stores are about 2 hours away.

Anyone here ride a cruiser? More specifically any of the japanese v4 muscle cruisers?

How bad are they really for taking corners? I think I would like the style and riding position but I ride touge everyday and don't think I could deal with a cantlean bike.
>>
>>17289830
They can't lean as far as any sports bike or even a ujm, they scrape not only the pegs but the mufflers and side stands before you get close to the edge of the tyre.

This is almost universal for all cruisers.
>>
>>17289841
What if they made cruisers with ground clearance?
>>
>>17289863
would ruin the handling, the only reason they handle at all is because of how low to the ground they are.

Get something like a cb1300sf or xjr1300 if you want a bike thats comfy to cruise on but can still turn and still has good brakes.

It's a muscle cruiser, similar to a vmax, vrod, or madura. They all make around 110-140hp which isn't bad.
I like the styling.
>>
>>17289884
Cruisers are heavy as fuck, like 600lbs or heavier for most of them. If they had a higher center of gravity then they'd be hard to keep upright at low speeds or stops.

How often have people used Craiglist to buy bikes? I'm looking at used ones as my first bike but legit websites don't have a lot of options in my area, Craigslist seems to have a much bigger selection but I've never used it, so I have no idea the pros and cons.
>>

I own a Kawasaki Vulcan 500 which is the successor to the 454, the engines are VERY similar in both design and power output. It'll do 75mph sustained easy enough, mine starts overheating at 80+ sustained.

Parts are easy to find online and at any Kawasaki dealer. Valve adjustments are a bit of a pain in the ass (requires draining the coolant, removing the radiator fan, and taking the radiator loose to get the valve cover off). I had to do a full engine teardown / rebuild when one of the bolts holding the starter chain sprocket on the back of the starter clutch came loose and ground itself into the side of the crankcase filling my oil with steel shavings... That's a very rare occurrence and the engines are known for being very reliable well over the 50k mile mark.

Here's where they call it a cruiser. As well as in the name of the actual line of motorcycles. You are indisputably incorrect.
>>
>>17290131
I've done brake tests in various conditions and am comfortable with changing road surfaces, but I don't slam on the brakes any time the surface changes if that's what you're implying. I am comfortable modulating the brakes as I feel the tire losing traction.

I can understand ABS being useful in an emergency situation where one might panic and grab a little too much or not enough. There's no way to practice being surprised.

Bought these Alpinestar GP Techs for $300-something USD back in 1997. That's close to $500 in today's money. A*'s top-o-teh-line, like what Doohan wore.

Now all the plastic bits are cracking apart. It's not wear, it's time... The right side shift pad is peeling off too, and obviously nothing touches it.

What are you riding? My bike has the Bosch 9MB 2-channel ABS. The experience is kinda like suddenly having a smaller rotor. The lever feels firmer than normal, and the front just doesn't lock or skid. Under hard braking, the front squirms around a bit and the bike stops surprisingly fast.

This is Bosch's latest gen, but it's the cheapie 2-channel, not the integrated which can apply the rear for you while moderating the front. I'm told that works even better on dirt.

Just bought a windshield for my cruiser today.
While it does ruin the look a tad bit, I can travel a lot faster now without straining my arms or my neck.
Does anyone here ride without a windshield on the highway? If so, how do you deal with wind fatigue when you are travelling faster than 80 mph?
>>
>>17290265
Its not the wind pushing on me that bothers me, but the wind noise.

Plastic is used a lot in boots because it provides some rigidity as well as abrasion protection without being too heavy. All-leather boots aren't really used for racing anymore because they can fold and not protect the ankle as well.

All i know is mt-07 ABS was horrid even on a slightly wet surface it would cut the brakes out well before they would ever lock up.

I do. It's fine I guess. Sound quality is nothing to write home about but it's not exactly offensively bad. You know Sennheiser HD201? well The B1 sounds nothing like these.

There's a usb connector that will only work with the manufacturer provided cable because it's hidden deep away but you shouldn't worry about that.

Battery life is fine I guess, will most definitely last a day even after two years of use, I charge maybe once a month, prolly less often.
Can't vouch for the mic because I never heard it but people don't seem to misunderstand me while talking. YMMV though because polish is a very distortion-proof language anyway

There's three options. Either you're riding that fast on a freeway in which case it's fuel consumption you need to worry about, you're on a racetrack where it's good technique and not overreaching you need to worry about, or a mountain road where you don't need to worry about anything because you're retarded

>>
>>17290950

And I forgot to ask, what's the maximum comfortable speed?
>>
>>17291237
About 400Km.
Starts to get a bit raw towards the end of that DESU.
That whole ride could have been in just about any gear, and if your route is particularly twisty there's no denying you're working harder than the boys on litres or mids (of any style).
It's like a cb1300 (owned one ages ago) before about 6-7000rpm so you can just get happy thrills from the displacement, but not long after than it gets incrementally terrifying. It's got the top end scream of a superbike with a brutal punch of torque on top. Truly a thing you have to try once your life, it really has a will of it's own so when you grip and rip it just does it's thing and you'd better have chosen a long road because it's fucking ballistic
>>
>>17291238
It doesn't seem to have the aerodynamics of a hayabusa - but regarding max comfortable speed, you're gonna lose your license a very long time before you lose your comfort. They make excellent tourers if that's what you're really asking, but I think helibars should be mandatory.

i'm thinking of ditching my CB400SF for a DR650 but I feel like I'll regret it somehow

I do a lot of commuting, used to hit up the mountains a lot when I first started riding 3 years ago but I found I enjoyed day trips and touring a lot more

Anyone have any words on how the DR650 is for commuting? is this a bad idea?

Any other bike suggestions? The new KLR and the V-Strom don't appeal to me but I can overlook the aesthetics if it's the superior choice functionality wise

also I can't afford 2 bike regos at the moment, if I could I'd just rock the two of them in a heartbeat

DR650 would be great for commuting. It's fairly light and nimble and it's tall so people will be able to see you easier in traffic. It's a 650 thumper so it's a torque monster even down in the low RPM's which makes it good riding at lower speeds in the city and in traffic.

It'll cruise at 70-75 mph (gps calculated speed) for hours with no issues. I've taken mine on a ~3k mile trip and the farthest I've ridden in a single day is 630 miles. The KLR is heavier, has a less powerful engine, and the newer ones have extra plastics that can get damaged if/when you tip over when dirt riding. V-Strom would be better if you're gonna be doing 95% pavement riding or a lot of longer tours but I think the DR650 would still be better than the V-Strom for commuting.

Nothing really. There's a problem with euro4 emissions though (allegedly they're having some major cold start issues, that car sized catalytic converter probably isn't helping).
>>
>>17291956
It's a lightweight bike to ride with the car and the one after that is repeated repeated powers of the drakes a lot of people whose nicknames imply they're guilty of the things they're accusing others of and I'm trying to get out... Is What swiftkey said

In reality the problem with the r6 is that it's a yamaha

I bought a bike and rode it home for 6 hours or so and both of my hands were numb as fuck due to poor form.
Took me a week for them to get better.

It's an enfield. They need plates on the front because they'll never pass you.

Great bike but too race oriented for street. Unbearably uncomfortable if not leaning all over the place. Makes the most peak HP for 600 class so if you like specs it's the pick for you.

Stuff a potato in your exhaust pipe and try to start the motor. Congratulations, you're now euro4 compliant.

I would think that as long as you wear the doge like a backpack, strap him on you somehow, he won't jump off or anything. He might not lean with you like a person would, but he also weighs a lot less.

Depending on the size of the doge, I would either put him in a tankbag or strap him to my back like a backpack, but with enough room for him to put his feet down.

>>
>>17292272
But what if you don't care about maximizing speed in a straight line?

What kinda tires do you need for cornering?

Not that I'm intending to corner, Im just curious. Are there any disadvantages at all to having these cornering tires?
>>
>>17292215
are you european? or is it called an A license in the US as well?
anyway:
>gf's father has an A license and a twin brother
>the two brothers had to renew their license and accidentally went to the office just one day apart
>the office fucks something up and both have now an A license
needless to say the other brother still isnt legally allowed to drive a motorcycle, but the license might hold up if they dont run it through the computer
>>
>>17292462
Just get car tires but cut off the edges so they're round.
>>
RRREEEEEEE why do I have to request a license upgrade with the citizens registration office before I can upgrade my license? Where I lived previously that was the driving school's responsibility.
>4 weeks until the appointment
>after which I probably have to wait weeks until the request goes through
>after which it'll take weeks for an exam slot to open up

8 weeks of waiting just so I can take one 45 minute lesson to get to know the bike and go over the obstacle course once and do a 30 minute exam.
>adds up to around 250 €
God damn.
>>
>>17292223

>>17292492

>>
>>17292462
Define (show me) cornering tires
Sports tires are in general
> more expensive
> less durable
> not actually grippy while cold
> require going fast to heat them up in the first place
> very bad in suboptimal (wet, dirt) conditions
