How can other prog bands even compete?
Polish proggers Votum just released a new song from their album :KTONIK:, what does /metal/ think?
I always liked this band, although people described them as poor man's Riverside
Is anyone else as excited as I am?
Holy fuck my sides https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ie4bTivfkU
Non-metal song that you´d want every metal band to make cover of?
For me Summertime Blues by Eddie Cochran, mainly because pic related did hell of a cover of it.
Post your all-time favorite metal album. No cheating either.
Filthiest vocals I have ever heard
Not even memeing
>that sheer ability to get you pumped up
>while still being good
I shill this at every opportunity even though atmosludge is probably one of the most hated genres in this general.
nothing even comes close
close calls are Written In Waters and When the Kite String Pops
>one of your favorite bands is complete shit live
so far nothing that I have listened to so many times yet
I liked Tool inspiration on their latest album, but it's a good thing they ended soon enough, similarly to Steven Wilson, he knew there was not much else to do, so he decided to focus on side projects
But it would be nice if they reunited for some live shows
>the singer of one of your favorite bands can't do live vocals for shit anymore despite being really good before
Probably this. Dragonaut riff is just too catchy.
So was this power metal AOTY? I liked it better than Galneryus
realize i was born for this moment and hatemosh the fuck out of random passerby
All Hail Testament, and supreme dark overlord Scolnick.
>your favorite band is ten times better live than they are in the studio
>you live in a third world shithole and will never see them
>talking about metal with my m8s
>conversation shifts to power metal
>everyone starts trashing power metal and making fun of it
>"Y-yeah, power metal is awful, only l-losers would listen to it, h-heh"
>go home and listen to early helloween
Why does everyone think things I like are for dorks?
I'm speaking as someone who really knows nothing about metal except the /mu/core essentials like Burzum and Sleep, but holy fuck pic related is awful. One of the worst big name albums of the year, hands down. The guitar work is laughable and I can't take any of it seriously when at any point the band's ready to shift into lazy third wave post-rock gear or to attempt to sound like an Eagles cover band. It's like they're trying to pull a Mr Bungle with all these genre influences but it doesn't come across as creative or self-aware on any level, and they're left with cookie cutter babby's first post-rock for /r/indieheads to enjoy.
I was just curious what actual metal fans thought of it, what did you guys think?
Rise of the northstar became shit after demonstrating my saiyan style
I'm listening to victorious eagle warfare as some guy on the net told me it was one of their best songs.
I don't understand how it can be put on the same level as galneryus.
It's not that bad but there's a huge gap between them
Not listened to it but i know very well the taste of some people that gave reviews so i can say it's likely to be about the level of sunbather
It's not great but it's okay if you like blackgaze.
Now why people would listen to deafheaven instead of listening the two first albums of alcest...
Will there ever be a better meme band than ROTN?
Seriously, there are plenty of good meme bands (Sarpanitum, Midnight Odyssey, Death Grips (inb4 >implying))
But ROTN is also BY FAR the best at what they do. (Death Grips are better than their straight up imitators but there are other noisy/industrial hip hop artists out there who are pretty good as well)
i dont like the tone to power metal
i guess whatever
its ok to listen but not my favorite cup of shit
if you know what i mean
It's true, pick literally any dissonant black metal band and it's better than deathspell
VI, dodheimsgard, blut aus nord, thy darkened shade, ved buens ende, thorns, devouring star, ebonylake, imperial triumphant, axis of perdition
Either pic related or >>61866165
what are some good melancholic and melodic black metal releases? I like Hirilorn.
It had some of their best music but it was my least favorite album overall. I revisit the others much more often.
Yeah the production was too clean and the riffs were too chuggy.
New Amon Amarth coming soon apparently
>this fucking video
>murder people who don't like our band
Try blackened thrash, immortal's output starting with ATHOW and everything after that, his other two sideprojects "I" and "abbath", inquisition, absu, destroyer 666, skeletonwitch :^)
Daughters - s/t
Converge - Axe to Fall
Incantation - Onwards to Golgotha
All fucking great
>no cum sock
>no black metal posters
Why was this so entertaining for me
I actually used to like Amon Amarth but this is just fucking retarded
Axe to Fall is so under appreciated imo. Insanely good Converge album. Those last two songs on it are so cool.
The first time I listened to it I didn't think the last two songs fit
Now I can totally see why they are on the album
>pic related, got it today. It sounds great
What is that white thing, a shirt? It looks cool.
Converge are probably my favorite band so I could over inflate pretty much any of their albums but Axe To Fall has always been special to me for some reason. That opening of Damages is just devastating.
Yes, wearing it right now
The print is really nicely done
I like how incredibly ok Jungle Rot are
like they will never release anything amazing but they are extremely consistent at releasing incredibly catchy and groovy death metal with OSDM style production and vocals and lyrics about war and there's literally nothing wrong with that
they won't drop an Unspoken King, at least it's unlikely
If you live in europe: http://eu.kingsroadmerch.com/converge/view/?id=5078&cid=1056
I'm sure you can also find it on the other region's websites if you aren't from europe
If not, they have a lot of other cool tee prints
the memes are all too real
holy fucking shit, yes
i can see it being AOTY
lmao just checked their facebook
""As Krighsu awakens from his slumber, the galaxy is being consumed by nanomachine swarms. Robots are now the dominant race, while the last human lineage, known as Agliptian, fear to lose the meaning of their existence.
The Agliptians have colonized 80% of the Milky Way. They found life, but primitive. The galaxy is bursting with terrax colonies and intelligent robots. Resources are scarce and times are uncertain for the human race..."
2. Neomorph Mindkind
3. Agliptian Codex Cyborgization
4. The Singularitarianism
5. Eukaryotic Hex Swarm
6. Computronium Pulsar Nanarchy
7. A-Life Omega Point
9. Zeroth-Energy Graviton
10. Molecular Winds"
are those their funniest song titles yet?
I remember when Job for a Cowboy were everyone's punching bag and now their new album is actuall pretty good
I like to call them "fun death metal" basically no groundbreaking shit but fun to just groove to
Same. Can't stand Meshuggah for that exact reason, literally the same scream every song every album for almost 20 years? No thanks. Wormed is similar, just mid range squeals for the entirety of every song. I do think Wormed is okay though.
what's the over-under on "57889330816.1" being another corny spoken interlude like Solar Neutrinos
no brutal/tech band has remotely similar songwriting. wormed's style uses basically constant time-signature changes and hardly ever relies on the sweeping riffs of Origin-style TBDM, or the palm-muting patterns of Defeated Sanity/Disgorge and their followers. They use a lot of weird tremolo influence and semi-mathcorey riffing that puts them closer in sound to Ion Dissonance than Suffocation.
Speaking of shit vocals this motherfucker pretty much ruins CC for me.
them and cerebric turmoil are good comparisons yeh
maybe malignancy in songwriting terms, though their riffing is different
to each their own, it's hard to develop an ear for brutal DM related stuff
I really don't listen to much Power Metal, but I know Dragonland has some pretty good stuff in that department. I've also heard a couple Blind Guardian songs with orchestral, particularly in their newer albums
George has an absolutely monstrous voice but I wish he'd use it more sparingly. Almost everything they've done the last few years just sounds like him doing the same pattern over and over loud as fuck with some music somewhere in the background if you listen carefully. Far too much of a good thing.
I've heard it and yeah I kinda agree. They have been so stagnant for so long.
But the solid majority (90% +) of his vocals are those squeals and it gets pretty samey. To me at least, it gets boring despite hitting the spot every now and then.
Did I imply I preferred sugary cleans? Don't really get this post. Sure I agree, but somebody who can do mids/highs/lows and everything in between is much, much better than somebody who just does one thing all the time.
best neck in metal
I'm honestly surprised there are no really good vocalists in djent, tons of skilled and wide-ranged voclists in prog metal, but all the ones in djent are pretty mediocre
True, plus he's actually pretty good at the different styles.
I quite like the vocals in Vildhjarta, but that's probably because the low growls. The Uneven Structure guy is okay too if you're into his type of vocals.
>I've heard it and yeah I kinda agree. They have been so stagnant for so long.
desu, Cloudkicker's first album made me appreciate meshuggah a lot more. It wasn't that great of an album, but it got me thinking that maybe chugging isn't automatically a bad thing. Catch Thirty Three is a masterpeice when you go in with that mentality.
BUT I'LL RIP YOUR THROAT OUT IF I HAVE TO
I'LL TEAR YOUR GUTS OUT IF I'M ASKED TO
listen to them man, they're fucking killer
tech death, some progressive leanings
mathcore noisecore in there
Moreso the second, first album was only alright. Honestly, there's a lot of really good pre 2010 djent. I wish people would give that a chance before automatically dismissing the genre.
If only they kept Barnes for a bit longer to complete the vile album because his vocals on there were damn good. He would probably be kicked out a few years later anyway because his vocals shit the bucket 10 years ago.
his screams used to be good too. Guy sounds like a damn electric drill. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ovXth9Bh48w
Any thoughts on Kaarnekorpi's recent EP? I just heard it recently, but it sounds pretty good. their recording quality's a step up at the very least.
Also lads, i'm looking for something similar to Dimmu Borgir's Death Cult Armageddon. I think it's my favorite album, besides In Sorte Diaboli.
