Hey pals, I got a couple recommendations of Melodic and/or Technical Death Metal from some friends earlier this month, but I've cycled through most of the discographies they've mentioned, so throw your favourite bands of those genres at me
>there are people in /metal/ that don't appreciate LDOH
Lykathea Aflame is essential. Corny, but essential.
Hey guys looking to get into some metal what albums would you consider suggesting to someone for their first steps? Like a couple albums that are different but still in the genre to see what I float towards
You can try Gorod. Their latest album is amazing tho.
/metal/ will disagree but I've been addicted to this.
Even more reason for me to post the underrated metal classic of 2011.
I'll let the rest of the res ponders handle tech death, get ready for some GREAT. FAGGY. MELODEATH RECS.
Hypocrisy - Abducted. Hypocrisy is a great swedish melodeath band that took heavy influences from the budding florida death scene. Highly recommend you listen to their full discog
Zonaria. Hypocrisy worship, very great debut and sophomore album, haven't heard their third so no comment on that.
Children of Bodom - Hatebreeder. Neoclassical harsh vocal power metal band that turned into a quintessential melodeath band. First 3 albums are absolute masterpieces, then they forgot how to make good music for a good solid 5 albums, then released their second newest album which is easily on par with their early work. Latest album is great
In Flames. In Flames practically invented the genre along with Dark Tranquility, Soilwork and At the Gates. This particular song is my favorite, and it's off their first EP back when they had Dark Tranquility's singer and DT had Anders who is IF's current singer.
I can give more recs if you would like, but I appear to be coming near the character limit
Essential new to metal albums would be Painkiller by Judas Priest, Rust in Peace by Megadeth and Paranoid by Black Sabbath
heavy- iron maiden- The Number of the Beast
power- lost horizon- any of their 2 albums
death- immolation- Close to a World Below
black- mayhem- De mysteriis dom Sathanas
doom- candlemass- epicus doomicus metalicus
I say start here and pick some you really like, then go on from there.
Is there a spooky alien core list? If not, can we make one?
Damn, didn't expect so many recommendations. thanks a ton. gonna start from the top and make my way down, and might let you guys know what I think later on.
if mayhem was the first BM band I listened to it would've turned me off the whole genre
Iron Maiden - Powerslave
Black Sabbath - Master of Reality
Slayer - Hell Awaits
Venom - Black Metal
Judas Priest - Painkiller
Bathory - Under The Sign of The Black Mark
Death - Leprosy
Helloween - Keeper of The Seven Keys
listen to those, figure out which ones you like and which ones you don't. after that, get recs based on what you like.
Anytime, they're IMO the best thing to happen to atmosludge in recent years, barring the rise of progressive atmosludge like Intronaut and Blindead. Amenra is sort of a one-of-a-kind band though, I don't know anything else in their subgenre that sounds as bleak and desperate as they do.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqO3BByBflg spooky filler track
>mfw that "neosludge" chart the angry guy posted in the previous thread actually got me to discover some pretty cool new bands
Just got into Power Metal, been listening to some Blind Guardian and Rhapsody lately and I've enjoyed them both quite a bit. Any other good PM bands you guys can recommend me?
This is the BEST version of Welcame.
Properly tagged now too.
Can someone listen to this and give some opinions?
If you like Rhapsody, listen to:
Human Fortress (Defenders of the Crown is their only good album tho)
Hibria (first 2 are best)
Anybody here bought/heard Rhapsody's new album yet? Is it any good/worth buying?
>seeing tits on an LCD screen is the same as seeing jiggly fleshy tits in front of your face at a rock concert
Damn man, Lykathea's album was great. the instrumental was incredible, and the progressive elements they threw in were really enjoyable as well. Thanks again for the recommendation
Anyone going/traveling/whoring out their mother to see this happen?
Some space related tunes
a lot of stuff would probably cross over with some of these
definitely my most anticipated release
My most anticipated has to be the assumption that Converge will release something, not sure if they will or not but damn that would be money. Oh and that one long Gorguts song will be cool.
They've posted about it one their facebook periodically, I don't really think it'll be soon but this year seems reasonable.
What are some /metal/ recommended headphones for someone who doesn't really care much about the actual music quality and the majority of his music is listened to through youtube?
you forgot me
Here's why people like ROTN:
>"hey dude check out this shit it's hilarious"
>watch ROTN vid
>what the fuck is this
>holy shit are those guys serious with this shit?
>a week later
>fuck, I feel like listening to ROTN again
>check the same vid
>Damn this is actually pretty fucking cool
>song gets stuck in your head because it's catchy as FUCK
And before you know it, you've found in your mind the saiyan rage and brought back the Furyo style.
I don't want to be the one boring cunt but they do nothing for me
>other stuff is catchier
>other stuff is funnier
>hc guys are irritating as fuck and doubly so when they're doing it for 'lol irony'
>the French deserve to be killed
It's okay my man, not everyone has in their mind the saiyan rage. The furyo style is in your blood, if you don't want to kick in the desk and learn on the floor that's okay.
To be honest, i liked them right away
What does /metal/ think of Nile? Seeing them in February and am pretty stoked
In Their Darkened Shrines is great. Pretty good live act too. AotW is killer as well. Hopefully they'll play the title track when you see them, that chugging riff with ominous melodies over it is the GOAT riff.
>downloaded 80 OSDM albums
>just listening to ROTN
THE FURYO STYLE IS IN MY BLOOD
KICK IN THE DESK
LEARN ON THE FLOOR
They did when I saw them but that was nearly 10 years ago in 2007 (oh dear lord do I feel old now).
But moshing seems to be on a decline where I am for some reason. I saw Carcass not long ago and the crowd was dead as dreams.
when I saw them people were mostly sat back watching but they're that kind of band, you could call it cinematic maybe? Suffo played first and that was violent as fuck so it wasn't a lazy crowd
>Ophelia - 당신의 환상을 동정하라 (2010)
korean ethereal doom metal, sad and dreamy
80-minute concept album with each track representing a month of the year
vocalist could easily be a k-pop singer (or j-pop apparently, her name is Yui), but this isn't anything close to novelty idol metal like Babymetal or Pritz
So what's the verdict on Reddit's favorite meme band?
They are fucking ridiculous m8. I never was able to get into them until seeing them live and it was brutal, a word that is memed up and over used but that describes it exactly. Unrelenting and fucking massive
Pretty fun band live. Mediocre studio releases. Pity since Hour Of Penance is pretty good (at least on The Vile Conception and Paradogma.)
why do so many bands do rhapsody better than rhapsody
god damn this is the best mediocre thing I've ever heard
>enjoyed this album before /metal/ found it
>watched as the internal struggles go from hating it to shamefully liking it to fully embracing it
the parts with robot waifu vocals are nice but ffffffuuuuck that generic deathcore guy
>ywn go back in time and gas Thomas Lindberg at birth before he ruins a million otherwise fine bands
not to bring on /kpop/-tier waifuposting, but chthonic also have a really qt bassist.
can we all agree this is their best album since Close to a World Below?
>i-if i keep throwing out strawmen i'll win eventually!
this is the most /r/progmetal thing i've ever read on here
be'lakor are incredibly simplistic. if you were talking persefone i might understand, even if persefone are cluttered wankery, but be'lakor are a watered-down opeth with really generic riffs
Not really. There songs are far more complex than the typical melodeath shit that gets pumped out.
>watered down opeth
They don't sound anything like Opeth. "Oh, they have acoustic breakdowns! Opeth is the only band to do that!"
Now I can't even take you seriously
>There songs are far more complex than the typical melodeath shit that gets pumped out.
they're longer, but so, so, safe and inoffensive. what about their riffing is something that hasn't been done by melodeath bands since the mid-90s?
that's a pretty low standard to beat
i still can't agree with you though
>when your review of an album gets noticed and put on the bands front page
WHAT THE FUCK JUST HAPPENED AAAAAAAAAAAAA
"Don't you see, you fool! If you fail here the entire galaxy will die! Humanity has perished, we stand here the last two members of an dead race. You're the only hope this universe has left. Stand up and fight until you can't anymore, because there is no one left to pick you up..."
>This is the final speech of the main character's best friend as he dies
Metal for this scene?
>implying good black metal isn't catchy as fuck
i remember i used to that about them a lot during NBBMN since they were my grindcore fix for the month
they're really good, the albums all have really good to decent songs and then one amazing song
basically everyone's evaluation has merit, and i don't think i qualify as an expert. i have listened to a decent amount of death metal but that doesn't mean i understand it or what makes it good more than anyone else does.
>tfw tearing through a shitload of OSDM albums while playing Lego Legens
I saw them at a last-minute show in a small venue with like 100 people last year. It was bretty fuckin kvlt, even without Frost on drums. Was hella disappointed he wasn't there but I'd still probably see them again anyway.
yeah basically this
killer album, but just imagine if the production was better...
yeah, mtf hrt really isn't ideal for presenting as androgynous/femboy since it'll give you boobs and hips longterm, but i dunno the other options if there are any
i hope you end up with something you're happy with
i'm only doing spiro. the downside to that is osteoporosis but lots of marginal vitamins prevent that
what do you think of the latest patch? they really nerfed Accountant imo
all you have to do is use meme magic anon
>tfw got chased by a wild boar through a snowy forest while listening to Inmazes
I've never run so fast in my entire life.
