I just woke up from a 8 weeks coma.
Did we all agree that this was without a single doubt the AOTY?
Yes I did.
It's pretty damn good but man it doesn't warrant seven listens in a row.
Dimension Hatröss, and Phobos, both by Voivod.
They're basically the music equivalent of Heavy Metal 2000 or 2000 AD comics.
The first one is about a dude (most likely the Voivod) who steps into a particle accelerator and travels to an alternate dimension where he's got psychic powers, he's worshipped as a messiah by a bunch of wasteland techno-barbarians, then captured by the dystopian futuristic society they're fighting against, where he's brainwashed by other psychics but then his powers re-awaken and he summons a quantic space god to annihilate this dimension and go back home.
Phobos is kind of a sequel to it, where the Voivod (now called Anarkh) comes back from his stasis on the moon to conquer the cyberpunk world he had left. To that end he uses PHOBOS, a satellite that broadcasts his psychic brainwaves throughout the planet to spread anarchy and chaos. From there on he creates an army and conquers the world from his tower, where he clones himself with quantic space science and becomes all-powerful but dies due to the time paradox he created by cloning himself.
The average atmoshitter

LIKE HIS GUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEST
Jamming right now. Them solos on this thing, I mean just listen to this https://youtu.be/TeYStyDDGEM?t=2026
There's not much sombre melodeath in that style
I guess you already heard Belakor, Omnium Gatherum, Garden of Shadows and mid era Dark Tranquillity
It was my metal AOTY too
But /metal/ probably liked Memenitum, Ad Nauseam, Horrendous and Galneryus more
The average riffs-fag.
>favorite metal genres: raw black, black-thrash, OSDM, USPM
Don't forget neosludge, aka "I totally listen to real metal too, guise!!1"
Heh surely you jest. Since and ATWW are the pinnacle of Insomnium, everything after that is halfassed mediocre shit.
Yeah, I know all of those. I meant something precisely like Since, with those Opethy riffs and acoustic guitars. In Mourning is decent too if you havent checked them out, start with Monolith.
On the topic of Metal concept albums, everyone should listen to Blacklodge's discography. Each album is a level of initiation on the path to cyber-satanism.
Login:SataN is about how the devil enslaves humanity through technological means and the meaning of sin in the XXIst century.
Solarkult is a prophetic vision of an elite of devil-worshippers gaining psychic powers through drug use and spreading chaos throughout the world to finally destroy it by triggering a nuclear war.
T/Me is about the fall of Lucifer into human flesh, and his struggle to get back his power, again through drug-fueled mystical experiences and dominion over matter and death.
MachinatioN is about the rites and activities of this satanic cult and internet-age black magic.
Why is jap meal so great.
>band makes great debut
>everything else sucks
Generally curious, do you guys listen to atmo/post metal just to be edgier than the common indie fan? Because there is nothing of worth in those genres at all musically speaking, and real ambient does it better
Yes because grind usually has the same kinds of riffs atmoshitters play, it's those basic-bitch riffs, why write something good when you can be trendy and get good reviews on rym
Another great industrial BM album is The Ichneumon Method (and less welcome techniques) by Axis of Perdition.
It's about how, after the coming of Nyarlathotep in the near future, the world is turned into a surreal cyberpunk nightmare out of Giger's paintings. There, a half-dead guy becomes a new prophet by taking control of all machinery in the world, enslaves humanity (or rather what's left of it) and replaces it with a new breed of xenomorph-like beings.
These feel out of place, generally only liked by sludge fans
Also why would you care? At least people are being exposed to the great genre that is sludge, stop being so autistic for once
Listening to this and HOLY shit, so good.
Herder is on there because it's literally faster Electric Wizard, generally only liked by stoner doom fans pretending to be too cool for stoner doom. Same deal with Corrupted, it's Boris for people who want le j-sludge but also pretend they're too cool for Boris. Indian is pretentious as hell, comparable to Thou and it's Fantano-endorsed which shoudl give you a good idea about it's (lack of) quality.
BLACKLODGE HAS RIFFS
IT HAS FUCKING GREAT RIFFS ALL OVER THE PLACE, AGGRESSIVE, POWERFUL, HEAD-BANGING RIFFS
IT'S THE OPPOSITE OF ATMOSHIT.
This is the exact opposite of truth.
I get it senpai, it's intense, but it gets fucking boring when every grind band is intense 100% percent of the time, every band sounds the same because of it, and there's barely any variation in songwriting
geez m8 I didn't want to offend you.
since I never cared about riffs it's impossible for me to say which artist has some and which not.
Didn't think that thrash fag would be THAT stupid
why does atmospheric metal trigger you guys so much? The only time I see people bring up atmospheric metal is to shit on it
Like what's the point of talking about stuff you hate
You're just making yourself look like a sperg
Most of us don't even like atmo-post-neo-sludge metal. We only listen to the most powerfull of the metals for true epic adventures. Have a listen.
Here's what happened:
I mentioned Blacklodge because it only does great concept albums.
Some fag read "concept album" and immediately thought "concept album = atmoshit = no riffs". So he called Blacklodge bland atmoshit, perhaps confusing it with another band with a similar name.
But here's the thing. Atmosphere can be created through riffs. And it's exactly what Blacklodge do. They play frantic, super-gnarly riffs but also use a shitload of industrial effects and beats and stuff to create a unique atmosphere for their concept.
As opposed to atmoshit, which relies on reverb and a lack of melody or rhythm.
I don't really get the groove hate in general considering the genre doesn't even exist, it's like a literal boogeyman "mom what if there's a texas thrasher under my bed? Will I really get thrashed"
a good riff is a riff you can bang your head to
a shit riff is a riff you can't bang your head to
atmoshit is sludge or ambient BM that has way too much reverb and doesn't try to create interesting rhythms or melodies or grooves, but instead focuses entirely on chord progressions and "textures" aka reverb. It's reverb. Atmoshit is reverb.
From what I can gather atmoshitters still like melodeath but hate pantera because that's what /mu/ told them you're supposed to do, as for riff fags, they hate melodeath because it's extremely generic and groove because modern groove is too syncopated and sounds like hip hop
THE FURYO STYLE IS IN MY BLOOD
KICK IN THE DESK
LEARN ON THE FLOOR
There's never gonna be a follow up to this will there? :(
ROTN showed me the way, I never thought about doing it before, watching their music vids really inspired me, I swear you're not getting the full enjoyment out of a slam album if you don't do wigger hand movements
YEAH BUT I TOLDJA I DON'T WANT TO BE A SOILJA, IT'S OVA
I WILL NOT BECOME THE ONE I'M NOT MOTHERFUCK
>tfw you play in a grind band
>everytime we practice we look on rym's best grindcore albums to see how we can achieve the kind of succes Pig Destroyer and Discordance Axis have
>band mate mentions something about Napalm Death being a good grind band
>kick him out cus none of their albums have a 3.7 rating on rym
>rym ratings don't lie
>at some point we masturbate to the intro of Prowler in the Yard to worship the rym gods and reach a level of euphoria unlike anything else
>we make an album
>its 9 minutes long and it's literally just atmoshit with text-to-voice samples and a wall high pitches screaming on top

FIND IN YOUR MIND THE SAIYAN RAGE FIND IN YOUR MIND THE SAIYAN RAGE FIND IN YOUR MIND THE SAIYAN RAGE FIND IN YOUR MIND THE SAIYAN...
b-b-but I like doom, bm and dm as well...
HOW DID I MISS THIS?
EVEN IF OUR BODIES ARE BROKEN, OUR COSMOS IS IMMORTAL
This album is pretty kickass so far but the lyrics and vocals are working really hard against the music and I can't stop thinking of Bane being on vocals which is awesome in its own way but okay I just need to process some things
Only trve banchou listen to it.
NO MATTER WHAT THEY SAY

my first impression of that album was 'oh, a humorless Type O Negative" but it really grew on me with repeated listens and now I love it - even knowing full well how cringe some of the lyrics are (lookin at you, Silver)
I really like it too, this is the most powerful gang shout ever recorded in human history
I don't know any other band that gets me atleast half as pumped as ROTN
/metal/ I need some albums with some weird ritualistic shit - chanting, weird voices, just ritualistic and mystical music, anything will be great
pic is my personal sheep
they may have gone so far up their dumb asses that I have an interest in them again
also these scenes look like the cutscenes from Thief: Deadly Shadows
except giant raven flying which is its own thing
ROTN is a great meme because people come and make fun of them, watch their videos to mock them, then a week later they have brought back the furyo style.
>ROTN merch store doesn't have the fucking flatbill that says Furyo on the bill
>ROTN is a great meme because people come and make fun of them, watch their videos to mock them, then a week later they have brought back the furyo style.
This is literally exactly what happened to me.
>mfw the tabs sound better than the actual song
how much do you anticipate the next hexvessel album?
listen to this shizzy mah nizzy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PF_1HEsb-R8
>the 7gb OSDM someone shared earlier is just about done DLing
>I expected something more powerful than this album.
How so? It's much more aggressive sounding than most Immortal albums
Nah the only other band member is King (lel) currently
