Re-post in new thread: Speaker setup anyone?
Thinking of getting some bookshelf speakers (BX2 + amp) but not sure if bookshelf speakers can bring out punch of DM/BM or the heavy overtures of drone (would a subwoofer make a diff or go up in speakers?).
Yesterday I posted asking about bands that don't have any solos/guitar waking but are still great. Suggestions I got were
>high on fire
>blut aus nord
I can attest to summoning but anyone got any more?
The best cheap bookshelf speakers right now are pretty much the JBL LSR 305s. They measure pretty flat (even in shit rooms) and have good off-axis response. A subwoofer is pretty much necessary if you want good bass response, but bass in a room is always a tricky thing.
>Rise of the Northstar and Cryptopsy
I don't know what the fuck is going on.
>inb4 ROTNS isn't metal
Okay then, Twilight Force and Cryptopsy. Now that's even more hilarious.
my setup is completely fucked but I can't do any better because my room is asymmetrical af.
at least I have full bass when lying in my bed, coincidentally.
Well, I'm more interested in seeing what speaker setup, if any, metalheads here have. Just curious if anyone has bookshelf speakers and were satisfied with what they heard with their metal. Might upgrade to bigger speakers.
Thematically speaking Stone Titan has always thought they're own music is bad and hated themselves, so I assume it's ironically bad; but ironically bad music is not what I listen to them for so the actual music is just irritatingly awful when you compare it to their previous two releases.
requesting black metal with whispered vocals, something like this song:
Oh, I own the lsr 305s if it wasn't clear and I like them a lot.
>my room is asymmetrical
That's a good thing actually. Well if it's too small you're fucked, but symmetry results in a lot of unwanted bass modes.
If it isn't ironically bad I have to question what the fuck they were thinking, if it is ironically bad it's a giant middle finger to people who like their music. Either way it's a lose lose
>Well if it's too small you're fucked, but symmetry results in a lot of unwanted bass modes
I know. but it is too small, unfortunately. at least the part where the speakers are standing.
the bass is alright but they don't manage to fill the room evenly. I get big sound differences from just moving my head around,
symmetry would at least allow me a decent positioning.
Fred Durst yelling
>Two streets and they call this a city
>Sometimes I see the the dead drive by
>With my faith in the trunk
>They're headed nowhere
>Just like me
in that high pitched questioning voice he uses for hot dog
>Coroner and Voivod
I'm fine with this
I'm relistening to the Darkspace discography in order, and I have to say
III I > I > III > II
III I is just so fucking good ;_;
Please fill up the empty lines in the following statement:
"A true KULT black metal fan almost certainly have heard this pivotal 5 albums:
What tracks have your favorite breakdowns?
Just off the top of my head
>'retro' throwback band
>sound nothing like the oldschool bands they're trying to emulate
The fall of troy is not metal at all, but they're one of my favorite bands. They also had fucking great breakdowns, but I think my favorite breakdown they ever did was either Ghostship V or Cut Down All The Trees and Name Streets After Them.
1. Dissection -- Storm of the lights bane
2. Dissection -- Storm of the lights bane
3. Dissection -- Storm of the lights bane
4. Dissection -- Storm of the lights bane
5. Dissection -- Storm of the lights bane
First of all, nothing that i posted here was anywhere near a meme. i wanted to be exposed to important black metal albums i haven't knew about by making this post >>61558974
Also, I've seen posts that contained this picture that got deleted, i think it's safe to assume the mods ban people who post this picture with no music related content (which is legitimately a ban-able offense)
How do I un-shit my taste? Ive listened to a lot of the mainstream metal bands but every time I try to expand into other genres and bands I just keep coming back to shit like Metallica, Slayer, or Iron Maiden.
I can get into new power metal bands easy, but if you told me to choose between Master of Puppets or The Ultra Violence id pick MoP even though I've listened to it to the point where I want to shoot myself
Am I doomed to be a poser for life?
Undergroud *deathcore* band I used To lisen to. (I don't give a fuck about post genre, if it's metal it's good) Seen Them Live And My God It Was Amazing The growl and scream were so perfect and brutal (I thought they inhaled on the ep) sad there's no more band like this anymore.
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.
Ik Darkthrone but i haven't heard that particular album.
I know this album already
Haven't heard any of those!
I know some of those but not all
Also you could do it without swearing me, you know
Well yeah, I guess, but no matter what I try and listen to I just come back to listening to them instead of trying to find other bands.
I got some of the /metal/ band recommendation charts and listened to some doom and black metal and ended up liking Emporer, but its just like I cant stop listening to the same bands over and over
Czarci Świt - Diabły Wzywają
Bethlehem - A Sacrificial Offering to the Kingdom of Heaven in a Cracked Dog's Ear
Enbilulugugal - Noizemongers for GoatSerpents
Belathuzur - Melancholy of Evil Souls
Nargaroth - Fuck Off Nowadays Black Metal
Yeah I guess Dave let Kiko write that one or something, but it's great. Lots of melodic, power metal elements, but it has great riffing and awesome leads. Hell, Dave himself actually sounds pretty good all things considered.
LADY OF WINTEEEEEER
You mean Glen Benton retard
>But that wasn't the end of it oh no, when Gillan finally got to see a finished sleeve he hated it with a vengeance and hence the now famous quote "I looked at the cover and puked!" Not wanting to sound bitchy but over the years I've said the same thing about most of Gillan's album sleeves. He also allegedly threw a box of 25 copies of the album out of his window. Gillan might have hated it but Max Cavelera (Sepultura, Soulfly) and Glen Benton (Deicide) have both gone on record saying that it is their favourite album sleeve
What's /metal/ listening too.
I know AoF isn't metal, but whatever.
post yfw Varg killed some immigrant for threading on his land
I'm sure I saw this exact same bait last year but with Mirai dying of an STD instead. Even the fake metalsucks link too
Yea Man Thy art is Murder ! one of my favourite band. I like the old vocalist better for some reason
let me know what you think !
You will have rot away, before angels can save your soul
You will become like us, those that kill for the thrill
You will become just like me
So does that technically prove atmospheric black metal is not a genre and is actually called Bardic metal instead?
It's really only axl from metalsucks that still gets upset by varg, or any other artist that doesn't share his political views, before Lemmy died he would always bring up his nazi memorabilia collection.
Metalsucks also had a reader poll last year called "The biggest putz in metal" that was clearly rigged by axl, he actually expected us to believe varg beat out faggots like frankie palmieri and ronnie radke
>Vikernes experienced that solely because of the name “Varg Vikernes” he was e. g. not allowed to order plane tickets, rent cars, order train tickets, rent a room in a hotel, open up a bank account, etc.,
if you like the old Thy Art take a look at this !
Same As thy art Is murder I stopped listening to them with their new stuff but the EP is amazing , high pitch , pig squeals , growl ... this screamer had some talent
>In 2008 Vikernes officially changed his name to Louis Cachet: Louis after a great uncle and Cachet being the surname of his wife. He did with help of the Norwegian secret police, who advised him to do so, and also because the name “Varg Vikernes” was very impractical in Norway at the time. Vikernes experienced that solely because of the name “Varg Vikernes” he was e. g. not allowed to order plane tickets, rent cars, order train tickets, rent a room in a hotel, open up a bank account, etc., either because the person taking to him though he was joking or more often because ‘good citizens’ didn’t want life to be easy for a person falsely declared by the media to be a “self-declared Neo-Nazi”. Vikernes still uses the name Varg Vikernes in everyday life, and only uses the name Louis Cachet when he has to (i. e. for signing things, legal documents etc.).
Yeah not a fan of chelsea grin, the ep they released a few years ago was decent though, probably because of jason richardson. gave me alight hopes for the album he made with them but it turned out to be absolute ass
>Euronymous's friends successfully got the media to portray Varg as an evil psychopath
>tfw the media portrays varg as a satanist even though he's an odinist
>tfw the media portrays varg as a neo-nazi even though he's never said anything pro-hitler or pro-genocide and Varg actively said that he believes there's a giant media conspiracy to demonize all Jews and Muslims
Varg has it rough. Fuck Euronymous and fuck his dogs. Varg's a saint.
i listened to this while lifting today.
it made me very strong but I had to concentrate on not laughing at the snare
yeah he's pretty much a stereotypical left-wing zionist. the only thing that gets him more upset than varg is dave mustaine, he writes an article every time the dude does an interview
the admins arbitrarily decide what is and isn't metal based on if they like them or not (BTBAM isn't on there but fucking Rush is), the user reviews are usually massively inflated or way too low
It's alright. What counts as metal is too strict and a lot of times what is/isn't there doesn't make any sense, but a nice resource.
The community is mostly okay. Most of it is older dudes that are heavily nostalgic though.
>X isn't metal according to us, fuck you.
He's spoken out against it but he's never once said anything against the concept of people believing in Islam itself. Varg said that he's fine with people being proud of their cultures, heritage, and background and expressing it. He's also said in one of his videos that people have a gross view of the middle east because the media only focuses on extremists and Varg said that the majority of people living there just want to get by and are caught in the fire because of a loud minority.
Varg's never said anything truly racist and never said anything that implies he thinks aryans are better than everybody else, he just believes that if people are going to go anywhere, respect the area's culture and don't force your own culture in foreign lands. He said it goes both ways.
Are there some metal album which were done by inspiration of H.R. Giger drawings?
something to think about. vizio soundbars with wireless subwoofer are very impressive with sound. I purchased mine refurbed from woot and I can't be happier for a simple setup that sounds fucking good.
take a look at this. Local Band From my town that went pretty big unfortunately they broke up not so long ago. DESPISED ICON *Keep it Fucking Brutal* they're from the french part of canada like me but they sing in English
I thought Rush has been there since like forever. Rainbow is on there too. From the rules.
>Mötley Crüe, Deep Purple, Rainbow, Scorpions and Rush (among a few examples) are not considered metal by some. Understandable, as their music and heaviness varied and was debatable at times. But what they sometimes lacked in "metalness", they made for in historical importance, and they are there to stay.
I mean okay that's fair enough, but it's bullshit that Led Zeppelin or Uriah Heep isn't on there.
This guy I know listened to this piece of shit because the cover art reminded him of 10.000 days. Needless to say, he loved it. Just goes to show what sort of people like Neurosis' pretentious horseshit.
Too many newkids shitting up the reviews for classic underground albums, and then you have ridiculous metal defeners like this:
I'm aware of and like Despised Icon, among the best deathcore out there and arguably the originators of the style. The Red Chord is another similar really good band. The album you posted is actually my favorite album of theirs, though I don't listen to them much anymore. Nowadays if i'm listening to deathcore it's pretty much always Slice the Cake or Black tongue
>No, this album isn't completely terrible on a musical level. But on a philosophical level, in the dimension of caring remotely for the genre, the community, hell, even their own music? A travesty matched by few. 'Age Of Winters' stands tall as a monolithic attempt to crush metal beneath the white hoof of 'progress' and 'civilization'. This, my friends, is the sort of music that is a plague upon metal, a conspiracy to strip it of its pride and savagery. Express your devotion to metal by denying this music as part of the community that you hold dear. This is metal only in sonic replication; NOT in all the ways that count.
>Death to The Sword.
say that to my face not on the internet and see what happens
all memes aside, neurosis is great man. Sorry you don't like them, maybe give Times of Grace a try? imo it's better than what you posted. just my opinion.
Don't compare varg to /pol/, /pol/'s literally just a bunch of racist neo-nazis trying to look edgy. Varg just draws most of his info from what he can find himself and although his sources are questionable, it's much better than /pol/ teenagers parroting whatever bullshit they can find senpai. At least Varg isn't an edgelord about it and doesn't present his opinions in such a way that he thinks other people are inferior to him.
i remember this poll and varg won and myself and many other were thinking what the fuck?? seriously?? this dude makes amazing music. It really seemed like they just made him "win" because of his radical views on race or whatever. How does this make him a putz.
You made it sound like he was against "islamophobia" and antisemitism though and I didn't claim he was a racist.
>Varg said that he's fine with people being proud of their cultures, heritage, and background and expressing it.
As long as they do it in their own country mind you. His video on Turkey shows he definitely doesn't like the idea of Islam (nor any of the other Semitic religion) being present in Europe. His points about ISIS was also that all Semitic religions are inherently the same shit by comparing their "crusade" against the non-Islamic peoples and cultures of the middle east to the Christians persecuting and wiping out the pagan religions of Europe.
This. I don't even really like Burzum much, but at least Varg thinks. I'm sure there's plenty of dumb stuff you could dig up, but he comes up with his opinions himself and doesn't just mindlessly parrot other people. I can respect that.
i saw the sword live a couple of weeks ago and i can never say anything bad about them again, whether i like or dislike their tunes. it was a seriously great show, and they came out for encore, these guys rock. period
Varg's point is that he thinks cultures should stay in their own region, not that he thinks that "____ is inferior to my own!" Varg would be kicking up a stink if the English massively migrated to Norway and threw Norwegian culture aside.
gonna be real here
Forest - Звoнoм мoлoтoв зoви
Drowning the Light - An Allignment of Dead Stars
Furia - Martwa polska jesień
Havohej - Dethrone the Son of God
Zuriaake - Afterimage of Autumn
Nothing overly obscure to comply with the 'almost certainly' but albums that the average bm fan has probably listened to at most 2 or 3 of
Which Finnish funeral doom band made a better comeback?
yeah i can't fucking stand this political direction metalsucks has been heading the last few years, and is why I go to metalinjection now instead (although they reported on that stupid shirt too)
What are some other bands that use drum beats like on this album?
So there is a band here in Reno NV named soultorn, bad ass local metal band. The former drummer is the worst drummer imaginable and stole money from the band to feed his wife's gambling addiction. His name's Paul. This is Paul. So please if you'd like, see that this gets back to him
>that feel when no cute gf to cuddle as the snow falls outside and listen to Passi-era Amorphis
what are some blogs where I can find weird black metal demos and cassettes? used to love those
it's like japan had russians on it, and then chinese came there and called them self japanese even tho there were already these russian types on them.
like with americans and the natives there
THE CROSS I BEAR CRACKS THE EARTH AT MY FEET
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD STAY AWAY FROM ME
The Unconquerable Dark was pretty good, not incredible, but pretty good. I have huge hopes for their next album
good shit, Tuonela and Am Universum are definitely my two favorite Amorphis albums when it comes to atmopshere.
I'm switching to Katatonia now.
/metal/ has a 50/50 chance of becoming a legendary thread or a shit thread when Varg is mentioned.
>this is a shit thread
Can't get much worse so post some prog
Anyone got some more shit like Destrage's The King is Fat N' Old? It was a bit more concise and hard hitting than Are You Kidding Me? No, and had an overall heavier feel I thought.
Which of the first four Batlord albums is your favorite?
anybody like Racer X?
>that feel when no cute gf to cuddle as the snow falls outside and listen to Rainer-era Bethlehem
fuck this is so good
