Just finished reading through Through the Shattered Planes, so here's a review/overview.

It's an adventure with comedic elements, a semi-image quest, a very light read, and has a variety of distinguishable ponies, semi-ponies, and others.

The biggest thing worth noting is that while it does have a 50k word count so far it's a very light read. Pleeny's light, just descriptive enough, writing style is complemented very well by how he draws his images. Instead of being talking heads, each image communicates an action or environment clearly. Because of this Pleeny's normal light writing style is even lighter, making it very quick to read through no matter how long it gets. I read through it over a couple lunch breaks.

The adventure is straight forward, you're a hydra that is exploring a series of small worlds trying to get revenge for your world having been destroyed by an army of 'Outsiders'. To do this you're gathering allies and consuming souls to gain more power. Each world has a clear and unique premise and its own unique residents ranging from ponies to ponified creatures to new races. Each character is immediately distinguishable, has their own personality, and commonly their own race.

Being a sapient hydra the MC seems equally likely to fight or talk in any given situation, not immediately going in for the kill for every creature they meet but quick to resort to violence if it seems like the best route. The two heads the players don't control each fall to either side of the violence/diplomacy sides making the player head the deciding vote most of the time. There's not much room for edge in Pleeny's writing/drawing style regardless. Each encounter has had unique problems so far, so if you like creative fighting you'd enjoy it.

The art is decidedly average, about on par with Warlock, trading his small details for dynamic and energetic poses. He's improved a good deal from his last quests and seems to still be getting better.

The only criticisms I have so far are that spelling errors are common, though they never make the sentences confusing, that the players are given too much reason to backtrack/wait instead of pushing them to explore, and because the descriptions are so light it's a fair bit less engaging than normal.

I wouldn't recommend the quest if you like taking the diplomacy route every time, want to be an edgelord, or can't stand spelling errors. Otherwise it seems worth the read.

Historically. Which probably sets Colorblind and a bunch of quests that never made it to Anonpone as the bottom of the barrel and a lot of particularly good artists as the top. Using that and bad-ba-a-aa-good I'd put Cammy and Fic as below average.

For other references of my opinion, I'd put Bath and Zenith at above average and Alchemy as the gatekeeper to good. They're all good at a variety of things with a few drawbacks. Hijacker, GC, and Nips would be good.

I wouldn't know where to put Inept on my personal scale. She excels to her self imposed limits, but they're self imposed limits.

Historically definitely complicates thing. You get the random quests like Radioactive horse, you get very short appearances of coldblooded twilight, you have people like storyteller who is pretty good now but how good were they when they were active, etc, etc.

It's been bothering me for a while,but since I read most Quest after they've run I'm not really sure how wide spread this has been. In Big Mare Hero it seems that there are a few players that jump on ideas they don't like with an immediate "kill yourself" or "fuck you." Now ussually I wouldn't bat an eye at behavior like this but ussually reactions like that come after a bit of arguing and not after the initail "hey how about doing x." Now in the quests I have activly played. I don't remember or didn't ever see that kind of hostility. Sure things would devolve like that after an argument had been going on for a while but. I swear I'm repeting myself but I want to know if this is normal in most quests because this feels wrong. Also never played a Fin's quest before so I don't know if it's just a regular thing for Fin's players.
