***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.

For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

= THICK MS GROUPBUILD ==

Build a kit of your choice that's heavily armored, and thick in the thighs/arms/torso/general area. Examples include:
>Dom + Dom Variants
>The O
>Virtue/Seravee Gundams
>Gusion/Man Rodis
>Full Armor gundams (If they're heavily armored, and not guns strapped everywhere like the FA Unicorn)

Non-Bandai kits are allowed, so feel free to whip out a Frame Arms kit or something and work with that as long as you make it thicc as fuck.

Start Date: 6/15
End Date: 8/31

I'm watching McGillis vs Iok and the Grazes painted in Carta's Blue/Red colors have shields. Were those ever released as part of a kit/options set or are they an anime-only thing that'd need to be scratchbuilt?

Here's the (long) video, you get a good view of a charging Graze with the shield in the next few seconds.
https://youtu.be/xeySOHOoveM?t=22m35s
That shield looks like it MIGHT make a decent base for a scratchbuild, but the shape is a bit off and it's probably way too small.

>>15718687
No

There are a lot of things that won't get kits or option sets.
>>
>>15718697
I wonder if it'd be reasonable to 3D Print. Would have to make a model for it, and then the question is how expensive of a printer you'd need to get satisfying fine detail on the shield.

>>
>>15718687
oh that looks more like a tower shield variant. 3D printing would be pretty viable if you put some good work into it. When i get mine working i may want to try that.
>>
>>15718760
The image is a GFF Metal Composite, it's not the High Res one.
>>
>>15718687
it doesnt seem that hard to make, you just need to assume alot of the sizing and do the measurements yourself. it seems its 2 large plates connected to the graze shield here >>15718669
theres also that grey piece on the top that that looks like its sandwiched in the middle.
>>15718737
you probably need to research how fine of a detail the 3d printer can do

There are still a bunch of Graze kits we need.

>>
>>15718760
It's dumb and serves no purpose, but I love Wing Zero EW's feathery space wings.
>>
>>15718813
Yeah, they actually introduced it as a genuine variant. You could probably use Carta's Graze Ritter as a kit base, and with a few simple modifications (or as is, really) you could use the Gusion Halberd from Options Set 3. The shield is the biggest, hardest part of the kit and also the main draw because I'm a shield fanatic.
I mean I bought a MG Full Armor Gundam because it has FOUR (4) shields.
>>
>>15718738
>Fix Figuration
eh
>>
>>15718824
or really it just looks like a regular graze axe with a long handle and spiked tip, simple mods. the shield could be done with some simple plaplate is you know how i imagine
>>
>>15718760
It's larger set of wings are meant to look like folded wings, so seeing them spread out like it's supposed to be a bird mid-flight looks wrong.
>>
>>15718760
Yeah a lot of that Glory of Losers gear seemed kind of redundant in the case of Wing Zero. The EW version was already designed to compensate for the missing shield with it's wing shield, and all those extra components for the buster rifle just seemed to let it fire a beam everyone already thought the default TBR was capable of firing on it's own. It's like they retconned the TBR to be weaker then had the extra bits power it up to it's previous power shown in the TV series.
>>

There are several suits in AGE that's Woolf uses that fit alright with new weaponry. And Gundam Legilis. It even has a dragon to slay with Danazine.

I always felt the suits Athrun used in SEED felt noble, the Justice/Infinite Justice and Aegis.

00 has Gundam Throne Dwei, Gundam Arche and of course GN-X which can even come with a lance.

UC has I guess Palace Athene, Dreissen.

IBO models.

Ideally you'd take note of the differences in knight's personalities, weapons, and personalities. For example, Percival was the one who got back Excalibur, so he'd be a gundam that has a big fuckoff sword like an anti-ship sword from SEED, or Bors has superior speed, so he'd be something like F91 or late UC.

I'm just pulling shit about this from wikipedia here, you probably know more about this than I do.

I bought semi-gloss instead of gloss on accident because I'm >new<, and the store was out of dull coat so I can't really work on my new kit yet.

The guys at the store were super nice though, and someone on the line gave me spraypaint tips.

I finally worked up the motivation to finish my GM Sniper II. It's been sitting half done for a month. Got the waist built and went to work on the legs only to break the part of the inner frame that connects the back heel on his foot to the rest of the frame. I think this is the first RE/100 to reach a level of quality where you could display it next to MGs and not have it look cheap and crappy in comparison. They finally got there.
kshatriya WHEN?
>>
>>15723131
So why not just make a MG then instead of a RE/100?
>>
>>15723139
the point of RE/100 is that its 1/100 scale kits for suits that are too huge, too complicated, too etc to be represented in master grade with a master grade quality full inner frame, to the point that if they did it would have to be the cost of a perfect grade and nobody would buy it.

>Kits should have inner frames for REAL modelers like us.

Heh, all these arguments about how people should just buy completed figures or need bandai to hold their hand can be applied to you too since if you take it up a notch a REAL modeler should be able to scratchbuild or kitbash their own frame together.

We're all modelers here guys, I'm just glad we're getting modern pretty damn nice, big, high detail kits of stuff like hamahama and Djeh at all.

So I'm slooooooowly getting better with panel lining and sticker applying, so I'm thinking it's time to start using sprays, especially now that I have the room for it. I'm just hoping to ask some small questions not answered in the doc.

First, should I just use topcoats, or should I first spray the runners the colour from the guide (A light blue for the arm pieces of the GM Sniper II for example)?
Second, all the guides show the pieces assembled before they're sprayed, but can I save time by spraying the runners themselves?
Third, should panel lining be done before or after spraying?
>>
>>15723244
>>15723315
Sounds like Re/100 are perfect for you then.

>>15723388
Its obvious that inner frames are there for better poseability. Inner frames help with weight balancing as well as making detailed armor pieces easy to connect to the model.

Its a sophisticated way of constructing a poseable model kit.

>>
>>15723480
NEVER PAINT ON THE RUNNERS YOU MORON. The guide should have covered that. If not it should be simple thinking to find you that spraying on the runners wouldn't allow you to cement parts together easily and would leave bits not painted where you cut and sand nubs.

Panel lining has to be done after spraying paint, but for painting markers wont work as easy and will smudge. You need to do something called a "panel wash" where you thin down paint a lot and touch a brush to the panel lines to let gravity guide that paint along the line. It requires a gloss coat over the paint.

Cut model parts out -> Seam work to not have it look bad -> Painting -> Gloss -> Panel wash -> Final coating.
>>
>>15723488
>Its obvious that inner frames are there for better poseability.

Posibility is determined by the joints and how their range of motioned is designed. There are toys and models that don't need "inner frames" and they have the same range of articulation as MGs with frames.
>>
>>15723452
Stay butthurt and learn to type english better.
>>
>>15723506
Inner frames allow for bending that actually looks natural, as well as neat gimmicks like knee armor separation.

Complaining about inner frames is like complaining about getting more cake.
>>
>>15723523
When you hold them they also feel solid. The plastic doesn't have that flexibility you have with hollow parts. You can also tell because of the weight and inertia of the parts. Inner frames, even ones made of light plastic, make a model feel solid in your hands and less like a cheap plastic toy.
>>
>>15723506
Inner frames are designed for their joints and range of motion.
>Inner frames WILL have a high range of articulation, toys and models CAN have a high range of articulation without an inner frame.

>>
>>15724259
In the long run, if you see yourself painting many models, an airbrush outweighs spray cans in costs and usability of techniques. With that in mind, test out with some spray cans or fully hand painting a model to see if you like the look of fully painted kits/can deal with doing that work.

This is standard for unregistered SAL, especially on Amazon orders.

Don't be scum.
>>
>>15724395
No matter how you paint, you're applying layers and will want to prime parts so you have the desires white, grey, or black undertone for the part.
>>
>>15724395
Primer is never needed, but if you're painting two different colored parts the same color than they'll look different without primer, and it will also scratch off much easier
>>
>>15724474
Primer should always be used to protect plastic underneath. I can't think of a situation where I wouldn't use it.

>almost everything I want is available in different stores and there's no possible combination to get them all in one order
God damn it.
>>
>>15724395
the only time you wouldn't prime before painting is if you're only painting tiny details like head vulcans or a zaku's monoeye. Otherwise, you want to prime so it provides a layer that paint will stick more easily too, and also gives a uniform base coat.
I don't see why Vallejo primer wouldn't work with Mr Color.
>>
>>15724474
unless your not painting at all it is needed it fills in defects in the plastic gives you a better surface for the paint to stick and not chip off and gives a even color for your paints not to be off color.
>>
>>15724491
>>15724615
I'll clarify - you can totally apply paint to bare plastic, it's not a very good idea though for the reasons I gave, and if you're going to the trouble of painting using primer isn't much more work

The thing is that real war machines have reasons for their decals being there, while mech designers and modelers usually just slap on decals for greebling.

The truth is that most of the time it looks like shit (even with the stickers/decals that come with the kit), and very few modelers have a keen enough design sense to make it work.

RX-THE END was meant to be a sort of Chimera of a bunch of different ms and aesthetics from different series. Its got G gundam pistols and gundam heads, Gundam Age Vegan-like design, gundam 00 gn fangs and particle trail, gundam wing deathscythe binders and sandrock cloak, etc.

The ghost thing is basically a gundam unicorn fetus. In series it didn't even open up, it just absorbed beams and impaled people with its horn in surprise attacks.

He built it based off his former "Cruel Gundam" which was a hydra gundam with a bunch of parts kitbashed straight onto it from other gundams.
