***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.

For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

= THICK MS GROUPBUILD ==

Build a kit of your choice that's heavily armored, and thick in the thighs/arms/torso/general area. Examples include:
>Dom + Dom Variants
>The O
>Virtue/Seravee Gundams
>Gusion/Man Rodis
>Full Armor gundams (If they're heavily armored, and not guns strapped everywhere like the FA Unicorn)

Non-Bandai kits are allowed, so feel free to whip out a Frame Arms kit or something and work with that as long as you make it thicc as fuck.

Start Date: 6/15
End Date: 8/31

SEND YOUR SHIT TO: [email protected]

My paasche finally came in the mail and the airbrush couldn't attach to the hose it came with so I returned it to get a replacement.
Then I looked up comparisons and apparently Iwata is much better so I changed the replacement to a refund, and ordered an Iwata Eclipse instead.

Does anyone else use this brush? From what I hear it's very good, but I also am interested in your experiences.

pic related is what I have planned for my first airbrushed kit.

I definitely want the MG Atlas to stand next to my MG Full Armor, but I do hope they throw the people who like Zeon suits a bone with a MG Acguy. There's so many fucking accessories and gimmicks on them it's insane, it could make for a really great kit even if it ends up being psycho zaku prices. Although then I have to wonder if it'd be popular enough to justify the tag.

>>15726498
GoodguyDan has a gunpla channel.
Problem is that he upload very little and sounds even less enthusiastic than Zaku.
I still follow him tho.

Call me a faggot, but I kinda wanna see an RG (MG too to a lesser extent) Barbatos Gundam.

Mostly just to see how it would be done and how different to the HGs and 1/100's.

Not before any of the other Wing and 00 boys get their RGs, though.
>>
>>15726936
You're a faggot.
RG God Gundam when?
>>
>tfw just got a second MG Geara Doga as a gift

I love the Geara Doga, but shit I dont have a second CCA/Unicorn era suit to match it with. Should I get an MG Rezel, Jesta or Nu to pair it with?

G-Saviour when?
>>
>>15726954
I won't accept a new G-Saviour in any grade but Perfect.
>>
>>15726945
Strangely enough, I'd rather see MG 2.0's first.

Not that I believe it would be impossible for RGs to make them even now, but I just feel they would be better fitted for a redux in that department. Would love to see a new God, Shining, and Master.

We also need more HGFC's of the whole Shuffle Alliance.
>>
>>15726961
Shitty source, but it's a really nice design. I don't care if it's even an updated HGUC or P-Bandai
>>
>>15726972
I want a HGFC for that butler mobile suit. And the American transforming suits.

But most of all a Devil Army grunt suit.
>>

It'd probably be a lot like the Hi-Res Barbatos with a new inner frame designed to be built yourself.

That's not a tranny. That's just an ugly girl. You're gay if you'd rather fap to futa than her. You cannot debate this.
>>

I can imagine putting better use to with that money. Like buying multiple RG/MG/HG kits. Or like that guy said, a Perfect Grade.
>>
>>15727047
A man without standards is a homo like you
>>
>>15727029
It's not so much the 140 itself, it's the cost of what I'm giving up so I can buy the HR one.
That's around 4 MGs, or like 8-10 HG/RGs, or a solid addition to one of several MTG decks I'm working on.
So giving up any one of those options, or combination of options, for one singular barbatos is a losing preposition.

Copic markers are great. Generally you want something ~3mm since that's the thickness of panel lines, but you'll be fine as long as you wipe away the excess.

Are Gundam Markers good?
I don't want to do anything fancy, just clean up nub marks, seem lines, and do some panel lining.
>>
>>15727875
>just clean up nub marks, seem lines, and do some panel lining.
If that's all you're doing, Gundam markers are fine.
>>
>>15727883
Thank you.
>>
>>15727885
If you want to do seam welding correctly so they're going to require putty. If you're using putty you need paint. If you're painting anyway get real paint and not a marker.
>>
>>15727971
I find that using Tamiya extra thin glue is fine for getting rid of seam lines 90% of the time

I prime it, don't see the line at all.
>>
I'm seeing my parents in three months, and while I'm visiting them, I'd like to make a Gunpla kit with my father so I can look at it and say "I made that with my Dad".
He's a long time railway enthusiast, doing a lot of model railway work, but he's also getting on.

I don't think a RG kit would be appropriate, but I'm thinking a MG would be a good shout.

Anyone got any suggestions for MG kits that'd be enjoyable to make with my old man, and look good without painting (I can't take my paints with me because I can't take aerosols on a plane)?
>>
>>15728017
Any MG would do. Does your old man enjoys building new things? Also a 1/100 scale is recommended, specially for beginners like him, either from RE 1/100 or IBO line will do.
>>
>>15728017
A good way to see what kit would work well for him is see what type of cars he likes. If he generally likes boxier cars, for example, go for some federation suit. If he likes curvier cars, try something zeon.
>>
Which PG:s should I stay away from? I have heard bad things about the strike freedom, but apart from that one?
>>
>>15728017
What scale trains does he work with? 1/144 kits are close to N-scale in size.

I built a MG Turn A with my dad a few years ago, he used to build a lot of planes when he was younger so he was amazed by the engineering and the design of it, especially the legs and also confused by it's mustache and the butterfly wings.
Really though, you can't go wrong with any modern MG.

How is this a problem for a review channel? Not defending her as a content creator, it's pretty grating to sit through any of her videos and they almost always are unprofessional shit heaps BUT I like the fact that at least someone is making a review on a product that is available. Don't be a tight ass about it, man.

One kit of a unique or obscure design isn't going to tank the biggest and, really, only competitor in a market created by that same competitor.

Currently considering the following MGs:

>Jesta
>Jesta Cannon
>Delta Plus
>GP03S

Are any of them undergated? Only MG size I've built is the RE1/100 Gerbera and it was a fantastic build.
>>
I look forward to the day when kits are just a bunch of pieces in labeled A-Z bags with a small number sticker with a gentle adhesive on each piece so you know which piece is which.
No more sprues, no more gating, no more nub marks. Every piece molded separately in the color it needs to be in, so kits have perfect color separation tied only to how many actual pieces the kit has (obviously there will be tiny color apps that don't justify their own piece, but no more miscolored pieces just because it needed to be molded on a specific runner to cut down on costs) and no more nub marks.
>>
>>15729628
No, only kits that are designed to be electro plated (that chrome look) or metallic from the start are undergated. Like the Hyaku Shiki 2.0 IIRC
>>
>>15729628
Not one of them are undergated.

GP03 is an old kit but if you like it get it.

Jesta is a good kit and simple too, cannon if you are willing to pay a little extra.

Delta plus is a little on the finicky side cause of transformation but it looks great in ms or wave rider on a stand.

It is, however, how Lego works.

>>
Here's a question, why don't Gundam kits use thinner gate connections like LBX and Majin Bones kits do?
>>

The gates are the empty channels used to fill the molds. Gunpla generally have more complex designs than LBX or Majin Bone, at least the new ones do, so it's importantly to have good flow before the plastic starts cooling.

You don't get it, do you? When Lego makes a new set, they don't need to design new molds specific to that one set -- they just pour colored plastic into pre-existing molds. Each unique piece corresponds to a unique mold that had to be designed, made, and quality assured.

What anon's asking for is for practically every piece on a runner to be designed with a unique individual mold. That would increase the average amount of molds Bandai needs to make for one new kit would rise exponentially, and steel molds are fucking expensive. This ONE runner from the Barzam has NINETEEN unique pieces, which means that there would be NINETEEN MOLDS in place of the ONE it takes now. Then Bandai would need to acquire more machines to inject plastic into the molds, more machines to sort out which parts go where, and so on.

The reason why it works for Lego is because Lego can get reuse a single mold a ridiculous amount of times. Plastic model companies, try as they might, can't match that.

How do you guys handle seam welding after priming? I'm working on one of them relatively older kits that requires the upper and lower leg to be joined by a non-removable leg joint

I figure it's just prime -> assemble -> sand down seam area -> seam weld and sand again -> paint, but wanted a second opinion
>>

You should be priming before painting but after modifications like seam welding and sanding.
>>

Many old kits don't afford that method, specifically with regards to ones where the entirety of the leg or arm must be assembled and can't be separated at the elbow/knee.

Yea, sounds bogus. I seem to recall Bionicles had a slew of problems with joints breaking over time. The plastic used by Legos is a more rigid ABS but I wouldn't call it better. ABS and HIPS can be produced in different rigidities better for different purposes. The virgin HIPS sheets you can buy at a store are softer and flexible than the stuff Bandai produces, but 3D printed ABS might be more rigid than Gunpla ABS.

The 00R Is a fantastic kit with sweet effect parts and it's sturdy enough. It's back heavy with the 0 raiser on it's back but of course it is.
One word of warning though, you have to make sure the little gray piece in the GN drives is set really deeply, otherwise the side binders won't stay on. That one little piece does not like to go in properly and it's hard to tell if you've done it wrong.
The wing zero custom is a great kit too, if you like that design. It's probably the best rendition of it.

Enamel takes longer for the initial drying period so it levels better (for a longer time), but cures in under 2 days. Acrylic polymerizes or w/e pretty quickly but cures over the course of a week.

They had a GM head Gundam in 08th MS team, so probably something of a throwback to that. There might also have been a GM head Gundam in Thunderbolt but I can't remember off the top of my head.

Just spare parts left from using same sprues. Nothing major but useful for customs

A lot of Gunpla re-use old runners for similar kits. It's a lot cheaper to have some waste plastic than it is to make an entirely new mold for a suit that uses many of the same exact parts.

I'm not really into THICC so I'm not going to submit anything for this build, though I'm building a MG Tallgeese 1 right now.

>but I have this depression thing and I can't get motivated like I was for the last one
The thing is, that with depression you are NOT going to get motivated no matter what. The trick is to force yourself to do it anyway or you will eventually stop enjoying everything. As hard as it sounds it's up to you to force yourself out of that mindset. Just go for it anon, I'm interested in seeing what you have in mind!

I have size autism. I got into this hobby because of the Wing MG kits. I only own one 1/144. I also feel its way easier to detail 1/100 and a big MG looks so much better on display.

But 1/100 is pretty expensive, especially outside of Japan. And then there's shipping. And the fact that the lines are limited (RE100 was supposed to solve that) and there's no accessories like with the 1/144.

>>
>>15735092
1. Shave down the nub with a knife until there's a little bit of slack (or snip if with your nipper)
2. File down the rest with a needle file (run your finger nail across the nub to make sure you got it all)
3. Sand with high grit sandpaper to smooth it out
Out of the techniques and processes I've tried, I seem to get the best results with the steps above. Be careful with nubs placed near small panel lines, rounded edges or any small details, and make sure not to file too hard, you should be gentle with it.

Don't worry about it.

Don't be afraid to use your fingers as a guide for the file. Just be careful of the sides if they are textured as you will file the skin off of your fingers without realizing it. Don't use the triangular one in this way because of this.

Just practice and if you mess up, figure out what the problem was and try something different next time.
