The pacing in season one is a bit shit.
The ending is incredibly divisive.
There's one guy on this board who really hates it for some reason and he is very militant about posting it. Most detracting posts on this board are from just that one guy, so keep that in mind.

Personally, I liked it. It tried a lot of new shit in a franchise that desperately needs anything new.

I wasnt in love with season one, It dragged on in a few places that made the plot feel flat but season 2 is a lot better. In season one all the gundams felt a little too similar both in appearance and in color but they worked to fix that in 2 as well.

I really appreciate how they subvert the typical gundam tropes in this series. In almost every series the main character has to come to grips with things like being a pilot and killing people. Mikazuki follows the heero yuy/setsuna formula here and is the complete opposite of that. You never stop and cringe to yourself at how big of a bitch he is being.

Unlike most gundam series though, you don't feel like IBO is any single characters story with every other character serving as a supporting role. There is a rich ensemble cast and the narrative unfolds around them. That is pretty cool.

I'm excited for season 2(I'm dubbing, so I'll have to wait a bit). But I'm definitely with you on subverting the tropes. I watched Unicorn and Seed right after and the pacifist hero trope was really REALLY wearing on me. Mika is a breath of fresh air.

Not like that's stopped them from literally everything else in the franchise, when the former is all anyone cares about.

She has some fairly subtle foreshadowing early in the story when her town burns down. It's pretty clear not many people other than Uso even like her and often call her selfish.

Also i thought she arranged for herself to become a spy for the League Millitaire within Zanscare before going back on that entirely later and becoming consumed within Chronicle's unit?

Her change of heart did seem really drastic and out of left field, it was hard to comprehend what it was that she wanted to accomplish.

As for Zanscare being an evil space empire fighting rag-tag rebels, I didn't mind much. Reminded me of Star Wars.
