Which version of the bible pairs best with Inferno? What other works are referenced? What do you do to stay comfortable and happy while you read?

>What other works are referenced?
Anything written in or translated to Latin, Aristotle, Tristan and Iseult, tons of Greek myths, Dante had an encyclopedic culture.

Always NIV for best prose
Wading waist deep through the piss-flooded halls of his house, Steven shook with terror. Lapis, although not savvy with the internet must have gotten into connie’s browsing history and clicked on the tab for watersports; there could be no other explanation for how the current situation came to be.
Steven froze when he heard an exited voice call his name
“Steven, come look at this; It’s amazing!”
It was Lapis. He could hear the flapping of liquid wings in the distance, and he shuddered again. Tears welled up in his eyes and he gagged as he pressed forward once more, trying to block out the ocean gem’s cries of glee. The piss was up to his neck by the time he reached the door; Unfortunately, lapis had reached him, too.
“Steven, why don’t you come and play with me?” Lapis laughed, snorting in-between chuckles, “I’ll show you how fun watersports can really be!”
With that, she flew at the boy faster than he could react. The blue monster was on him in an instant, prying open his mouth with both hands, her eyes sinking into her sockets. From all orifices on her face, piss flowed in a constant stream into Steven’s mouth.
Huh.

Why is there so much SU watersports porn? What could possibly explain this cultural phenomenon?

human nature
Recommend me great literature that is not from a country in red.
100 years of solitude
The Shahnameh
The Spoonfeeder
>Proto Rupi
Ted Hughs was such a fucking chad. Look at that fucking jawline. And he was, what, 6'5"? Seriously, how much more chadder can you get than making a 10/10 literary genius qt kill herself because she missed your cock so much?
>He speaks in your voice, American, and there's a shine in his eye that's halfway hopeful.
Is there a better opening line?
>>9985573
It's great
Best Post-Modern opening has gotta be
>A screaming comes across the sky.
>>9985580
I kinda agree with you. But I'm also kinda partial to the "It was love at first sight" in Catch-22.
Whatever, I don't think there's anything out there that has given me the chillbumps I got when I first read the opening line of Underworld.
Each Underworld thread I see gives me recollective goosebumps thinking about DeLillo's prose... ungh.
War is hell
>>9985518
The unbearable lapses between the war scenes and the suffering stemming from those scenes, and the shitty family of academics was insufferable.
>>9985529
you must be completely insufferable irl.
i bet your ;parents are proud.... i hope they're dead

i got into a writing course by noting that the head of the department was a big fan of Jane Austen, and then writing a cyberpunk version of a chapter from "Persuasion" in my entrance test.
I end up regretting most of the books I buy because they're boring or I just lose interest in finishing them
The Alchemist is one of my favorite books
Greetings.
I am looking for some books that will ascend me to a new level of intelligence; books that will take my intellect beyond what is considered "normal".
Books of such category I've recently read:
>The Prince
>The Phenomenology of Spirit
>The Holy Bible (KJV)
>Prometheus Rising
Fire away, fellas.

One of the unappreciated geniuses of the 20th century and an incredible essayist on top of that
If he were French, he'd be as famous as the best of them

>>9984921

I know I know. I have I just want to hear what others think of the last chapter that david writes about his father.
Hey /lit/, I'm an Italian exchange student in the US.
Recommend me some basic american literature everyone must read
>>
For stuff that most Americans will have read in High School, and therefore stuff you'll likely be able to discuss with people, You have Catcher in the Rye, To Kill a Mockingbird and Of Mice and Men. There are other books that are covered in High School, but those (especially Catcher and Mockingbird) are the most likely to be useful in Conersation.
Beyond that You'll want to read some Hemmingway (try The Old Man and the Sea to see if you like his style), some more of Steinbeck and possibly Stoner (as it's getting popular nowadays).
Of course, no list of American literature would be complete without the best book the country has ever put out: Moby Dick. It goes a little bit beyond basic literature, but it's definitely worth a read.
Hope this list has helped.
>>9984775
Good to have ya here ya guid
Start with the great gatsby. Then the catcher in the rye and the grapes of wrath. You'll have understood high school American lit by then. If you want to, try huckleberry finn but that will be hard for a non-native speaker [though I assume you aren't a shit-tier brainlet so maybe give it a shot.] The rest depends upon region. You asked for basic so I assume you don't want the memier stuff. Where are ya currently?
High school staples not mentioned so far:
Great Gatsby
As I Lay Dying
Scarlett Letter (least recommended)
and possibly The Awakening
Most of these are easy reads and everyone and their brother has read them.
Comfy ass canon? I'm going through the classics and it's a lot of postmodern autism and stream of consciousness. Help me get back in my groove, /lit/.
>>9984622
I just finished Stoner, and I found it pretty comfy. No stream of consciousness or postmodern techniques, just a brilliantly executed portrait of a man's life.
>>9984727
Preciate ya anon. Seems to be the next move for a lot of people right now.
>>9984747
Yeah, it's getting pushed a lot recently. I took the plunge after having my eye on it for ages because my local bookstore was promoting it at reduced price.
Plus, if you like it, it's being adapted into a film.
ITT: Novels that make you afraid of children.
I'm honestly curious about the subject of this book
Also, is the cover taken from Realms of the Unreal? Looks like it
>>9984500
It's kind of an examination of the psychology and instincts of children. Basically, some kids get kidnapped by pirates and completely adjust to the change. They repress everything that makes them feel uncomfortable, like the death of their oldest brotherand eventually one of the kidsmurders the captain from a ship the pirates captured,The narration is top-notch. Would recommend.
something even the pirates don't do
>>9984544
I'll try and check it out if I can find a copy, thank you for taking the time to write that out!
