I can't get tight linework on SAI with my Intuos. Is there an approach that wouldn't just require taking an extra long amount of time doing it painstakingly or are you only ever going to realistically manage professional level finesse with a Cintiq?

Buy Clip Studio Paint. Not a shill, I just used to ink in SAI too and thought "this is as good as it gets with an Intuos" but then I bought CSP on a whim and HOLYSHIT it's so much more natural and comfy to ink in! Seriously worth it if you do a lot of line work and much cheaper then a Cintiq!

Sorry about the exclamation points, I got carried away... It seriously is a very comfy program to ink in, tho. How ever, I still use SAI for sketching and coloring/shading, and PS for after effects. SAI is still much faster and intuitive on my old computer and PS has more options. CSP I use strictly for inking and comic pages. Just save your files as psd and you can fiddle around with them in most programs.

Looks nightmarish. The torso is all sorts of fucked, if you used a ref you need to study it more closely, if you didn't use a ref you need to get a ref and figure out what a torso looks like. What's going on with her ribs? What's up with her hips? Her tits are a mess, they don't look like they have any form or weight. Her bellybutton is way too high. Her lips look like a watermelon or sliced tomato, the weird chin doesn't help. The shading is pretty crap, what's your lighting direction supposed to be? Bottom right? You abused the soft round brush for the coloring and it shows, the 'armor' on her legs looks better compared to the skin for this reason.

The background is beautiful though.

Here's my take on it. Lower center of gravity, visible arms spread to make it look more stable, less stiff yoga pose, more relaxed. Noticed emphasis on the legs so made the hair lead to it- emphasis on curves, curves, curves. Hair was asymmetrical so made it even more asymmetrical - to my taste really. Noticed a hair near the face and dot on the breast - thought they would look better repositioned as a strand near the mouth and a mole. I'll see if I can make a process of my coloring as well. Hope this helps.

Good job, I've always been a fan of empty eyes in anime. To me, they're much more expressive than light spots everywhere, so that's why I try using them. Now, it may be the angle combined with bad parting, but her hair looks like a toupee, over a big forehead. I recommend you take a break from pure construction, and reference something. Break it down until you get it again. Lapses happen to everyone.

It's easier to draw eyes looking at the viewer because it's a crutch due to not knowing how to draw eyes in the first place. That coupled with 3/4 quarter view makes you feel like a master.

Before drawing a figure, try making their planned pose yourself in front of a mirror, in this case, your character's doing some sort of pelvic thrust while her upper torso and legs remain straight. This is not a comfortable pose for anyone with a normal-shaped spine.
Partially as a result of the pose, her torso is fucked. Her hip bones appear to be different heights on the left and right sides, and she has a similar problem with her ribs. Her waist narrows too drastically, and the torso is too long overall. The extra lines you've put in don't enhance the picture at all and really only serve to highlight the mistakes.
The hand you've drawn is nice, shame you so obviously hid the other one. I'm assuming that green spike is being held in her other hand, but if so I don't think said hand should be hidden so neatly behind her leg.
The knee and calf of the (stage) left leg are at a completely different angle to the thigh, while the right appears to twist as it goes down.
The two different shading styles are disconcerting (Is it unfinished) and in particular the soft shading on the skin appears inconsistent. The torso suggests an overhead light source for the most part, but there are no cast shadows and the hand is lit from below, as well as the fact that her left side is shaded with grey while her right is shaded with red. Also, go easy with the red blotches everywhere, the ones on her face are creeping into the whites of her eyes, making them look bloodshot, and the one on her vag looks like an embarrassing rash.

Just test out the trial version for free if you don't believe me about the inking. As I've already mentioned, I don't think the program it self is better in every aspect then other programs, but the feel of the inking really is very different from SAI and PS.

If I really wanted to network i'd go to one of their open house figure drawing sessions. Besides, I'm more of a believer of just applying to a company until they mistakenly or accidentally hire me. If you are having trouble getting the shapes you want digitally without the pen tool go traditional. I was trapped for a couple years after being seduced by mathematical pen tool perfection. I couldnt replicate it any other way on the computer but I found that I could on paper with a pen.

Take all your efforts and attention to detail outside your digibox.

If you are already drawing on paper. Then learn to channel what youve learned about pen tool shapes to the design of your paper drawings.

This is amazing, yet somehow feels off. I can't pin point exactly what it is but something about the face is throwing my off. Not an issue of the structure or anything, but the likeliness of the character seems off. Only other thing I can say is it's kind of a shame that you put all that effort into the face/hair but not as much with the rest. I still really like it though.
