Not replying to that shitty "summer lol" post, but if anyone wants to use the Right Shift key more, try this:

Standalone Right shift → )
Life-chaning shit.
>>
>>60977343
It's easy to say "I've won" when you've deluded yourself into thinking that your way to type is the correct, infallible way and typing speed or accuracy doesn't factor into it. I showed you how fast I can type on an average day without warmup. You have concealed your typing speed and are probably busy editing the results of some online typing test as we speak to make it seem like you can touch type for fuck-all despite suffering from crippling autism personality disorder. Really gets the old neurons firing, doesn't it?

Which mechanical keyboards are still made in Japan?
>>
>>60978551
Topre. Modern Alps are now made by Canadians instead of the Japanese
>>
>>60978467
>Silent clicky
Clicky literally means they click. You want a tactile switch. Unlike blues gaterons are best for browns, but I don't remember if they have an equivalent to cherry clears if you're looking for something heavier.
>>
>>60978467
V60 with matias quiet click is more tactile then blues and browns as well as quieter then a rubber dome, but it doesn't have a backlight
>>
>>60977936
Also while I like the first suggestions, I'd like to look into other options.

I just don't trust the chinks when it comes to warranty.
>>
>>60978653
mechanical keyboards are so simple that there is not much they can fuck up

and for example if you fuck up a key switch you can buy some for a few bucks and solder it yourself
>>
>>60978653
Everything is made by chinks now. Also the TADA68 is one of the best keyboards to come out in a long time. If you want something different then get a Ducky or Coolermaster. They aren't as well built or feature rich as the tada, but they come from more reputable brands
>>
>>60977283

finally got my new keycaps from pmk, sorry of the blurry photo, i cant into top down pics. just 2 concerns...

-the red modifiers show this weird light reflection smudge that only appears in pictures, it really bothers me as my lighting isnt really the best

-my magic force has some back light, while i can turn them off i sometimes like to turn them on at lowest setting especially with these keycaps during the day, adds a nice accent i think, but for some reason there's a really bad shine through ONLY on the red keys, I thought shine through was not a problem for PBT?

I was looking at Corsair K70 Lux and Coolermaster Masterkeys Pro L at Canadacomputers. Both Browns

Of the two, which to get? Or are there better alternatives in my budget range.
>>
>>60983504
There are much much cheaper alternatives, but between those two you listed I'd go with the cooler master since the software and build quality are better

Is the signal converter just a PS2 adapter?

I have no idea what he means by extra programming, I'd assume there's support baked into legacy shit in windows but I guess I'm a retard.

Anyone here ever order from kbdfans?
I ordered a KBD75 from them on Thursday and still no signs of it moving, order still just says that they've received the order. Gonna give it until Thursday to see what's up, I see nothing indicating they're taking pre-orders, so I'd imagine they'd be ready to ship...
>>
>>60983774
The converter makes the keyboard fully programmable so you can do things like macros and media keys that can't be done on a normal model M. F13-24 need to be programmed first before you can use them. You just need one active converter to do that.

I wasn't here for the old posts, but I think I get the gist of it. I can type 140-155wpm or so and I don't type properly. I mostly type with my left hand, and I do a few weird things like hitting x with my thumb sometimes. Despite this, I do think learning to type properly is worth it. I could probably get even faster this way, and maybe make my right hand as fast as my left over time. The only reason I haven't is because of how long it takes to get back up to speed, and how painful it is to see such low test results after being used to seeing really high ones. I'm thinking of getting an ergodox to force me to learn to type in a more balanced way.

Anyway, I just wanted to say that being a typing god without being properly taught doesn't mean you should shit on people trying to teach people to type properly. You and I may be skilled, but if someone want to improve their typing, I don't think anything is wrong with them taking a proper path. My typing style is basically due to weird childhood habits. I don't think it's worth replicating or anything. You obviously don't have to learn to type properly, but I don't think bragging that you type a unique way is good either.

This. I had the misfortune of using one in a school computer lab once, long after it should've been there. For some reason it was connected to a modern iMac. It was extremely uncomfortable to type on. The actuation was difficult and felt awful as well. These days I type on cherry mx greens, and I swear they take less force.
>>
>>60986318
I think I went up from 80 to above 100wpm in not too long. There's still hope for him if he keeps at it. I didn't take daily tests, I just had periods where I'd test a lot in a row, so I don't have a graph of my progress, unfortunately. I also don't know much about how improving typing speed works, I just know that I have always typed a lot and I enjoyed typing tests.

I wouldn't even say that my preferences are that out special. I just want some keycaps that don't look especially vibrant or old, and which are kind of universal so I can change them easily. The biggest hurdle seems to be the fact that I want to make a 65% sort of thing, with the arrow keys in the right shift basically, and the only sets that seem to accommodate that are ones specifically for only that layout.
I also would like ISO and specifically a European layout with the € on the 5, but I've given that up because that's fucking impossible.

>You're probably looking at cheap sets since you're a yuropoor after all.
I've looked at all sites that I've seen linked here. Best selection is actually on aliexpress though, the more expensive sites only have very rigid sets.
>If you want unifrom keycaps so that you can change them easily you have four profile options. XDA, DSA, G20, and SA row 3.
It's not so much that I can switch them on that axis, more that I don't have a profile that's hard to get. I'm not going to try and switch ctrl for F1 or something, I just want to be able to buy a different F1 to exchange my F1 easily for example.
>>
>>60989916
Then look at group buys if thats what you want. Massdrop has some, and geekhack is a great place to keep up to date. Pimpmykeyboard offers international keycaps for some of their sets
>>
>>60990000
I don't see any of those on massdrop. Geekhack isn't a store. And Pimpmykeyboard doesn't say what size the keys are that they include in their sets for example. And again, I don't really care about "international" keycaps.
>>
>>60989916
so you probably want cherry profile

what's your budget and what exactly are you looking for.. is white and grey ok or what do you want exactly
>>
>>60990070
I'm mostly just trying to orient myself in what's possible, but my budget would be something like 100$ I guess though preferably less obviously. I'd prefer a plain white text on black keycaps, but I'd settle for anything close. White and grey is pretty much the opposite of white on black.
>>
>>60990065
You can buy keycap sets off geekhack from manufacturers who do small community runs. Pimp my keyboard uses standard keysizes so just look at them since they're all listed
>>
>>60990134
>You can buy keycap sets off geekhack from manufacturers who do small community runs
It still doesn't have any of the advantages of a store. Needing to go in each specific thread to see what they mean is a fucking hassle.
>Pimp my keyboard uses standard keysizes so just look at them since they're all listed
In that case they're not useful. Also, "standard" keysizes aren't really a thing. The left CTRL for ISO for example can be 1.75 or 2 depending on who makes the keyboard. Or if you think there are actual standards, then I would love to see where they're defined.
>>
>>60990107
this would probably be your best option at least if you want (thick) pbt rather than abs plastic. it's white text on black keycaps and it has the 1.75u right shift and pgup/pgdn/etc in the correct profiles and it even has the 5.5u choc mini/plum84 spacebar. it's double shot so the text won't fade and it's proper white colored.

i think that within 1-2 years manufacturers will start making reverse dye sublimation where they take a white keycap and dye everything except the text, but for now the set i linked seems to be the best fit for what you want

That does look pretty much like what I was looking for. Must've looked over it because of the "normal" colour looking like ass. But that black colour looks good.
Not that much of a fan of some of the symbol placement, but that's just nitpicking really.
Thanks mate.

They're all in one place and its updated almost daily. As far as keycap sizes go PMK lists them all. Just look at the pictures. Also 1u is the standard

>They're all in one place and its updated almost daily.
Can you link that then, I don't see it. Anyway, that's still less convenient than it being a store as you can see.

>As far as keycap sizes go PMK lists them all. Just look at the pictures.
Not all sets are included in the pictures, it's also a shit way to find out what the standards are. And they don't have all "standards".

>Also 1u is the standard
I'm assuming you're talking about control, which I haven't seen any proof for. Both sizings are used.
>>
>>60990397
I'm not talking about control. What are you talking about? Keycap lengths come in a standard unit or u for short. If you need a 2u ctrl then get a 2u ctrl since PMK sells those. They also sell 1.75, 1.25, and 1.5u ctrl. Because of this you can look at a keycap and determin its size. Unless you're looking for old ass keycaps you won't run into any issues. All sets are included in the pictures from what I see.

Massshit sent me an email today about the amazing new product they're selling: an artisan spacebar for the low price of only $65!

Seriously, fuck Massshit. Everything they sell is hugely overpriced.

I knew that, as evidenced by me using that shit mate. I thought you were talking about something else considering you brought it up like I didn't knew about it.

>If you need a 2u ctrl then get a 2u ctrl since PMK sells those. They also sell 1.75, 1.25, and 1.5u ctrl.
I don't see any of those. Besides, I hoped it would be a set. And it seems all caps they offer are an SA or a variant of that only.

>All sets are included in the pictures from what I see.
I definitely see certain combinations not come through. Anyway, it's still a shit system to determine a standard, which is what this particular bit is about.
>>60990481
That's just a link to different threads. That's not really better than just browsing the forum mate. There are also literally no keycaps in there, even though I found a link to keycaps in the forum, so it's not even comprehensive.
>>
>>60990538
pmk doesn't sell individual keycaps at a low price. Instead you buy it though a whole set that includes other keycaps you won't need. Also nigga are you blind? Its not that hard to look at a keycap and see, yup that fits. Its literally Legos. I wouldn't buy from geekhack tho, unless you find something you like.
>>
>>60990593
>pmk doesn't sell individual keycaps at a low price. Instead you buy it though a whole set that includes other keycaps you won't need.
I don't see any sets either, aside from coloured blank ones.

>Also nigga are you blind? Its not that hard to look at a keycap and see, yup that fits. Its literally Legos.
It is if the pictures are shit, if you're using unconventional sizes, if the keys aren't relative to standard sized keys, or if what it's supposed to fit in isn't defined yet. The biggest issue is generally the right shift, because most of the time they don't offer a different one, and if there is a different shift it's pretty hard to tell if it's an ISO lefty or a 65% righty because they're isolated.
>>
>>60990656
They have several sets you can buy. They sell the standard sets that go on Ducky, Filco, costar, etc for the base price that you see. Then if you need the special size key sets you buy those. Its all listed there and they all have pictures showing you the sizes. They make sets to fit almost every keyboard. Its not that hard since its all labeled
>>
>>60990726
So the different sized keys aren't in seperate sets. I thought you implied that in >>60990452
Still, then you run into the issues I listed in >>60990656
I can only see that they offer different ctrl's and shifts, I can't tell if they're 1.25, 1.5, 1.75, or 2 from the picture. Also, the labelling is shit, it's literally "alternate keys", which means fucking shit.
>>
>>60990796
Yes you can. Just use your eyes. 1u is the size of a single keycap, like the letter v. 2u is twice that length. They're lined up in order so you can see them. No shit they label it as alternate since they're abnormal sizes. They also have international sets if you want the € on 5

I fucking know that mate, I've said/implied this 3 times now already.

Considering the slope and the fact that they're not next to standardized keys, and the small differences in sizes, I disagree.

>No shit they label it as alternate since they're abnormal sizes.
I'm just saying that your claim of "it's not that hard since its all labeled" is terrible because just saying they're alternate means jack shit for sizing.

To be honest, all artisan keycaps inherently make a keyboard look like shit. Actually, I think I take that back. On the kickstarter the only option for the layout is the "True Fox" layout, which is an absolutely retarded layout.

I'm not sure I'd get another layout except the "Vanilla" which doesn't have unnecessary wasted space on the bottom row.

And it appears it's not shipping to even parts of Europe, with an estimated ship date of December for the places it does ship. This is an incredibly disappointing drop.

It not fully aluminum as the side has an acrylic layer for the under glow. Also its a kit so you have to assemble it yourself. They will anodize the aluminum. This picture is just a prototype.
>>
>>60993339
The "gaming" switch is a myth, and lots of people actually recommend heavier switches for gaming due to accidental keypresses being harder, and bottoming out not being a big deal in many games where you're basically just using the keyboard to walk and jump. Point is, it's opinionated and basically nobody knows what you personally think is the best gaming placebo board.

But in any case ergo clears are actually *lighter* clears--basically like browns with a bigger tactile bump. They shouldn't be too heavy for anything. I don't know why you'd waste that much extra money for them over gateron browns, which already have a bigger tactile bump than cherry browns.
>>
>>60993618
"Gaming" anything is a meme for easy cashgrab from retards.

Any good player will do fine with a 5 bucks rubber dome.
>>
>>60993618
While I do know there's no such thing as gaming switch, coming from membrane (currently using gateron browns), my fingers literally gets tired really fast when I was on my old membrane keyboard not just during gaming mind you, when I'm also typing up lab reports and what not. So switching to a mechanical def made a HUGE difference, my fingers basically never tire out like they used to!

Anyway the person offered either 62g or 67g ergo clears. I'm not sure if these are considered heavy or not?
>>
>>60977283
Should I? I'm done with this G15
>>
>>60993888
62g is on the upper end of "medium" stiffness, I'd say. 67g is almost the same or as stiff as a regular cherry MX clear. If you don't like stiff switches, definitely stick with gateron browns; ergo clears have nothing to offer you. They're mostly for people who really want a middle ground between browns, which are pretty light, and MX clears, which are pretty stiff.
>>
Anyone know where to get these, but labeled?

Well, /g/, I ordered it: HyperX Alloy MX Brown (Nordic).

- Wanted brown Switches because I type a lot. Also wanted a numpad because I use it all the time.
- Wanted a keyboard with backlight. Don't care about RGB, don't need fancy effects, just need to be able to see the keys if I'm watching a movie or something with the light off and I need to reply to something real quick or whatever.
- Wanted a keyboard that's actually got the menu key on the right bottom row since I use that all the time - and I never use the Windows key, it doesn't even do anything on GNU/Linux.

... so.. according to the tracking it should be here tomorrow.

I hope it's .. nice.

Meanwhile all over Asia and specially China it's all about the mx blue, that's The Gaming Switch there.

Essentially, it's just marketing. I personally don't like any of those, can't type fast on red without making a dozen errors and the blue switch is just too loud.

Asian markets are more into MMO/MOBA so a stiffer switch with tactile feedback is really helpful. Meanwhile in the West, FPS are what most people watch so fast linear switches help.

Gateron colors are the same as Cherry, but with a few quirks, such as a smoother stem on the switches and bigger tactile bump on the Browns. Of course, since they're chink switches, you also have to deal with inconsistency and QC issues with Gaterons.
