Most IEMs have felt discomfortable for me. My problem with IEMs is that my other ear canal is very tight. Those triple flanges would probably be excruciatingly painful for me judging by what I've heard about their fit.

From the IEMs that I have the Shure SE215CL is fairly comfortable (though not as much as the Focal Sphear) and also isolates very well, but it also sounds like ass.

Fiio E10k is a good combo amp/dac for $75-80, not sure about cheaper options than that. A Magni or Objective 2 is a step up if you want just an amp.

You don't need an external DAC unless you hear noise from your hardware. For this you can get the E10k as mentioned, or if you want to spend $200-300, O2+ODAC or Magni+Modi.

Try it with your on-board. If it doesn't get loud enough, get an amplifier. Objective 2 is good and will be enough for them and any other headphones on the market. Skip the DAC entirely.

Amplifier/DAC checklist:

-Is it too quiet?
-Is the output impedance too high (fixable by equalization)?
-Is there noise/EMI or hiss to it?
-Does it sound distorted as you start to crank up the volume?

that's the case for speakers, but these drivers are right next to your ears so reflections and coupling are absolutely critical.

on a speaker the room only effects everything above ~600hz mostly because of wavelengths, in the little sealed enclosure between your ear and the driver there is a fuckton of waves bouncing around everywhere, including off your ears. enclosure design is important and can get a really good sound out of a cheap driver. see the $5 driver in the etymotics, or the $15 driver used in the empiric by felib (measured by tyll recently)
