If the focusrite was insufficient for the headphone, you would only need the amplifier section. You can even wire it to the headphone output if you were so inclined.
The DAC would be redundant.

Either way, no stack. Just get the headphone to see if you need one. The only issue is that you would have to listen a bit quieter than you would like.

Alright, I have the headphones already (Beyerdynamics DT880 600ohm) and I'm running them through a Fiio E10k and I have the focusrite for recording music. Through research, however, I've seen that apparently the e10k isn't good enough to power my beyers, so I found the schiit. I asked in the general a little bit ago if I needed the schiit and someone mentioned that I could just use the focusrite.

Could I use my focusrite for general use for listening? Or should I get the Magni 2 and just use my focusrite for recording?

Amperior are really good sounding. I didn't like the fit or the brightness so I ended up with the V-Moda M80 as my portables.

The bass impact is strong without EQ but it doesn't affect the midrange like other bass cans. I recommend them as an alternative
>>
Is the stock Samsung In-Ear headset any good?
>>
>>52680404
Have to crank the thing and turn the bass and gain on to be able to get proper volume and sound out of it. Just wanted to double check here before I drop $130 on the Schiit without being able to test it out (nowhere near me sells the brand, I don't even think theres a dealer in my province). Gonna give the focusrite a proper listen to make sure it's up to snuff.

I have/had HD600, DT880, K550, AD900x, HM5, etc

I wouldn't go say the HD600 has a veil, but the treble isn't accentuated as much as DT990.

OTOH the HM5 certainly seems to have a veil on the midrange.

All considering I wouldn't recommend the HD600 when you can get a DT880/DT990 for $130 new.

Razer Carcharias headset for PC (NOT the more recent 360-compatible "upgrade")

The old Razer Carcharias were really good to me. They were comfortable, open, sounded good, and were a decent price (under 100 bucks), but they don't make the model anymore, and I need to find a good replacement for when my last pair eventually dies. From what I've read the Sennheiser HD 558 seems like a good candidate, but I'd like to get some more opinions.

I also wouldn't mind some mic suggestions, since I'm replacing a full headset here.

Pretty looking casework, tube option, remote operation, more ports, along those lines.

I won't say that. Fiio stuff is built cheaply, isn't physically robust or to noise rejection.

Just wanted multiple opinions, and thanks for yours by the way. Haven't had the chance to take my headphones out to different stores and try out what a "proper" amp would sound like with them. If I turn my laptop volum eup all the way, with the bass, gain, and volume on the fiio all the way up, I do start to notice some fuzz and noise. Might end up getting the magni2. Maybe I'll get the modi as well. Was recording stuff a while ago with my focusrite and my guitar sounded fine but there was a shit ton of noise. It wasn't picked up in the recording, but it would be too much for listening.

That whole headband contraption looks a little nuts, is that thing comfortable? It also doesn't look like the cable is replaceable.

>>52680793
Ear cup material doesn't look too comfortable, I think I'm too used to velour at this point. I am curious about that microphone, though, how does that work? It looks like it hooks up to a pair of headphones but I'm having trouble picturing how all the cords go together.

I had velour pads. these are comfy, albeit in a different way. these'll be nice in the summer.
note that the pads can be replaced, though they're not really meant to be pulled off - they're held on by clips. this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Philips-SHP9500-Mod-3D-Printed-Pad-adapters/191778370316?_trksid=p2047675.c100009.m1982&_trkparms=aid%3D777000%26algo%3DABA.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D35217%26meid%3D4cd2458c50b74801ab065a7be8a65182%26pid%3D100009%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26sd%3D191778366239 is meant to go over the clips to save whatever pads you get from potential damge. as far as the actual replacement pads, these fit: http://www.amazon.com/Brainwavz-Velor-Memory-Replacements-Earpads/dp/B00MFDX4YO/ref=sr_1_17?ie=UTF8&qid=1454043241&sr=8-17-spons&keywords=beyerdynamic+dt&psc=1
all together you're still under budget at $145.

>microphone, though, how does that work
The mic side plugs into the 3.5 input, the other end into an integrated i/o 3.5 input. one cable.

>By the way - how do you justify your purchase where there is no actual gain and it's all placebo?
People owning and being proud of their HD600 will tell you that it makes everything sound more natural, whereas AKG makes everything sound more artificial and fake. I still find the K702 a very good heapdhone in the mid-range cathegory (about 150-300€). Many people call the K612 better, because it has slightly better bass and slightly lower 2.5khz peak, but I heard many people complain about K612 headband getting wrinkles after some time (K702's leather headband obviously doesn't have this problem). K612's cable isn't detachable, which can be a downside for some people. According to AKG sheets, the K702 is built in the same exact way as the K702 Annie, but I don't know whether this applies only to the chinese K702 or only to the austrian K702 or to both. Still the differences between K702 and K612 aren't absolutely as big as people make them seem according to many people owning both of them. I love my K702 and personally I wouldn't ask for more: it's detailed, it's got an accurate dynamic range, it's not excessively coloured, it's comfortable, it's got a very spacious sound. The only downside (if this can be considered as such) is that it's mercilessly precise, then it makes bad recordings sound disgusting, which basically forces me to search for the best recordings every time. Still, once it's feeded with good recordings, the impression I get every time is that I'm listening to music coming from multiple speakers, everyone of which plays the notes of just one instrument.

What kind of issue did you have?
I have a pair of the same headphones myself and I have had a couple of issues. First was the cable that came with them originally, it was broken basically from day one, making the sound in one cup cut out every so often. Now the padding on the left cup is starting to fall off. the noise didnt creep up until about 2 weeks into having them. someone said a hair or something could have fallen in there, i wont argue that, i have no idea where it came from

Interesting. I'm not sure I have had any of the sort. Do you still have the recording? I'm kind of interested since I have long hair and if a hair can get in there and get stuck, it would be very likely for it to happen to me, since my headphones are literally covered in my hair.

I want to buy myself a pair (real ones, of course), but I can only do it through Ebay (because free shipping + fine price). This is kind of risky, so I'm worried.

Item in question: http://www.ebay.com/itm/130766995267
Has anyone bought from this seller?
Would Ebay refund me if I get a fake pair?

K702s are the best headphone for me. There's a few headphones I'd replace them for but they all cost over $1000.

I thought the 400i would be the replacement but they just aren't as good.
>>
>>52684031
do you need a detachable cable?
if so k702

do you need more bass?
if so, k612

if you need neither of these, which is the cheapest
>>
>>52684291
finally found it, wasnt sure if i deleted it or not. a frequency indicator of some kind will actually pretty accurately tell you what frequencies it was happening at, too.

it's our in house shitposter that shills k702 and will bash anything that's more expensive.
>>
>>52684456
Nothing wrong with them. I just thought the sound stage would be "better" and larger.
>>
>>52684468
oh i know him. im pretty sure im the dude that sits here with you all day trying to talk sense into him

>>52684476
oh, so youre saying they sounded too similar? alright
>>
>>52684322
They're not loud enough?
>>
>>52684441
It does sound weird. I havn't had anything like that. I have had a few cases where I felt like it sounded distorted, but it was when playing MP3 files, so I blame them. I also do not have an external DAC atm, I'm just using my mobo. Should I get one? My mobo has a pretty good soundcard, but I don't know if a DAC will actually make a big difference.
>>
>>52684302
> please stop
I just wrote my opinions.
>>
>>52684468
Umm that's not me and I already said there's more expensive headphones I'd replace them for. They're just out of my price range. Call me a poor fag if you want.

The HD800s or one of the Audeze LCD models specifically I would love. I'd like to try out Stax one day since I hear a lot of good from them but never tried on pair from that company.
>>52684486
No? And I'm talking about stock ones. Not ones that have that mod that cuts out the grill.
>>
>>52684491
Yeah, not loud enough with the SOtM sHP-100, so temporarily using them with an older NAD stereo reciever. Sounds good enough for the moment though.

what i gathered from what you said was that you had no real complaint, but it wasnt worth getting or saying the 400i is better because they cost more. if thats wrong, youll have to elaborate
>>
>>52684543
To my ears the AKG sound stage was larger. I don't consider that a fault for the 400i, it's just a characteristic of the headphone.

>>
>>52684585
actually, the k702 compare very favorably to some TOTL headphones, it's i sold my LCD-2s because the improvement was just slightly better bass response and the highs were shit. I even tried the HD800s and they sounded thin. I'll stick to my K702s and MDR V6s for true clarity. It's just not worth going above 200 dollars.

ah true. but that guy has been around a lot longer, so i figured that would have been nearly a moot point
>>
>>52684575
I've had to decide between the two. I went with the K702 because I was worried I'd dislike the small sound stage.
>>
>>52684683
yeah K702 has by far the best imaging and soundstage i've ever heard. Beats the T1/T2s and comes close to the HD800s.

so do you guys actually think the HD 600 is bad or just memeing?

I can get it with new earpads/headband for like 200$ shipped, so why shouldn't I?
>>
>>52685196
After looking some more, I'll probably go with a bluetooth monoheadset. I can get quite the selection at half the price.
>>
>>52679794
how are you liking the 880 ? What music do you like ?
>>
>>52685269
If you were here a couple months ago, the HD600 was the meme that was always recommended like K702 is right now. Usually in these threads, whatever has a good deal going or is relatively a better value is popular.

$200 is a good price for those, go for it.

I'd like something with cord that doesn't twist like a madman. I guess in that price range everything is basically the same, right?

I think it's the first headphone past which there is very little reason to upgrade if any. 200 is a great price.

That would be news to me. I know that fakes existed of their higher range product lines, none to do with the m50 and other tracking headphones.

I'm only asking because I'm currently using fake ATH-M50. Bought from Amazon for full price.
Don't want to get fucked twice. I'm hoping they didn't bother making fake M50x yet.

I sometimes wear the m40x for such amounts of time and even longer and I literally never had the slightest problem.

However, I have not tried the mdr for comparison, and my head shape is probably ideal.

Can you recommend some headphones for me that can use practically any computer as an audio-source. If not then another possibly viable option.

>Location

NEEDS to be connected through a 3.5mm jack. Source is mainly a shitty computer from 2011 and maybe a smartphone. I dont want to buy and amp etc.

what ever is best for mostly using on a computer
>Open or closed
Doesn't really matter that much to me, i play games and listen to a variety of music

Enough for hours of use

Hard rock, metal, classic, some dubstep (wide range)

At the moment i have some usb-connected gaymen headset which i can probably no longer use.
>>
>>52686769
A bit cheaper than your price: m40x, mdr7506/v6 (all 3 are neutral with very good sound)
For your price range: AKG 612(neutral) and DT770(bassy, or v-shaped?) but these require an amp (im not sure about the 770 actually, maybe a low ohm version might not need).
>>
>>52686851
side note, im just parroting the common recommendations i see on hpg
i personally only have the m40x and can vouch for them.

Closed (770), open (880/990).
V-shaped (770/990), more balanced (880)
880 can still be a bit bright.

There's market for little USB powered dongle DACs, there's the larger stuff like ODAC and the Concerto DAC/amp, and then there are the battery powered things that you can just use plugged into the USB port.
